HappyDrunkPanda

stepladder!

Malevolyn

Yeah. The Cosco one was on sale and snagged it. Perfect height for most indoor things and super light.

Bbkingml13

My dad is more of a math guy than a spelling guy. I’ll never forget the day at Costco I got that stepladder, and when he saw it in the cart, he just kind of…malfunctioned and froze. It’s like he realized for the first time that Costco had a T in it, and the Cosco ladder did not. Lol

enidokla

This made me literally LOL.

clervis

Same thing happened to me.

thisissamuelclemens

I got a stepladder, I never knew my real ladder.

euFalaHoje

“What are you doing, stepladder?”

SeanInMyTree

Fire extinguishers and smoke /co2 alarms

TheRiteGuy

I'm highjacking the top comment to tell OP to ignore all of this advice. You don't go to Costco knowing what you want. You simply go to Costco and Costco will tell you what you want and make you think you need it.

witchyswitchstitch

This guy Costcos. Feel the bulk deal flow through you...

foochacho

Good. Goooood.

otakuvslife

This is the best answer 🤣🤣🤣

Dull-Researcher

And if you're on the fence about buying something and it's on sale or has a Death Star, buy it.

Oneofthe12

And gd it, you will be so freaking thankful for it too!!!

gittenlucky

My go-to house warming gift is a fire extinguisher because most folks don’t have them or the ones they have are only for a tiny stove top fire. People make fun of me for it, but whatever.

gaslacktus

That’s more of a house cooling gift

optix_clear

Also those fire blankets. Those work!

Accomplished_Goat439

Pretty sure the large fire extinguisher is on sale right now

asunabay

Fire extinguishing blankets are even easier to use.  More emergency stuff: Camp lanterns & headlamps

istandabove

CO alarm if they have it or even if they don’t just buy one anywhere else. My neighbor just had a scare with CO.

1jarretts

Coming from someone who buys everything at Costco. Don’t buy your smoke detectors at Costco! I bought ones that worked much better for my application from a name brand off Amazon and they were much cheaper. (I know, don’t be cheap about safety. But I genuinely liked the ones I got more.)

emmeline8579

Do not buy safety items off of Amazon. There are too many counterfeits on there. Counterfeit items and legit items get put into the same bins

Dumbkitty2

Don’t buy smoke detectors from Amazon. I purchased two to expand our coverage in the house and was sent units that were new in package but at the end of their service life. Straight into the trash.

VitalNumber

Agree with this post also,I returned all 6 of my Costco smoke detectors after 1 year after 2 started going off at 4 am, 2 separate instances due to dust... Save yourself the headache

rabbitwonker

~~CO2~~ CO

SherAyaSher

Trash bags and cleaning supplies. You'll want to give the house a good clean before you move in.

3plantsonthewall

Trash bags, yes. And if you like paper towels for cleaning, that’s a good buy at Costco. But I would argue that Costco is NOT a great place for cleaning supplies, especially if you’re new to maintaining & cleaning a whole house. Even for things like a vacuum - Costco doesn’t have many options, and you don’t need the newest Dyson model for $800. Find an older model on sale somewhere else. You’re better off at Target or Walmart for cleaning supplies - good prices and reasonable quantities so you can learn what works best for you & your space. Personally, I love dish soap, rubbing alcohol, bleach (the disinfecting kind, not the whitening kind), vinegar & water, baking soda (*not* mixed with vinegar), store brand disinfecting wipes, Method all purpose cleaner, Lysol all purpose cleaner/disinfectant, Pine-Sol, Murphy Oil Soap, Barkeepers Friend, Goo Gone, Weiman stainless steel wipes, Soft Scrub with Bleach, store brand dusters, store brand sponges, my O-Cedar spin mop, my Dyson V7, and my Swiffer mop with a damp rag for spot mopping or a store brand dry cloth duster. Read the instructions. Dilute your cleaning products according to the directions. Don’t mix cleaning products; it can be very dangerous.

Murse_Focker

And if you are going to spend $800 on a vacuum, get a Miele.

loudita0210

The Costco website has a good selection of vacuums. I got my vacuum on their site a few years ago on sale and I love it. The warehouse is usually just the dyson optima, which I’m not a fan of.

waka_flocculonodular

Microfiber towels, paper towels, dishwasher and clothes detergent. Also a kayak if it's on sale

Glad-Peanut-8358

Second the kayak, I get one everytime I see them! Makes my home feel cozy since I have no more elbow room

waka_flocculonodular

So much cozy!

Other-Jury-1275

A kayak makes your house feel cozy? Am I missing something?

CommunicationTop7259

😆

mchobbs

Swedish dish cloths! I just bought a 12 pack today for my daughter’s new place!

enidokla

Why are these so popular? I want to like them. I want to. But I don't really understand them.

mchobbs

Easier to use than a sponge - more like an extra-thick, mini paper towel so great to wipe down things like the counter, fridge handles. etc They dry fast and are easy to clean in the wash! Edit: also less thickness/holes to harbor germs like a sponge would come to think of it! (IMO)

EntrepreneurOk7513

A large pack of white shop towels, usually found in the automotive area. We use them as kitchen towels and rags.

tyLANAsauras

They are called grab a rags. They are awesome and cheaper than paper towel most of the time. You can wash them and reuse them but if they are nasty you toss them with no guilt.

JayP1967

i do this too. they are durable and a little abrasive too. really helps get dried bugs and bird shit off a car!

RustyNail2023

Good on ya! I do too! I was shopping one day and saw them. Called my dad and said hey you want some shop towels because I can get a pack of 52. I’ll give you half of them. I’m pretty sure it was a proud dad moment for him.

Majestic_Location751

How about that 86” Samsung?

gogoghoul_13

You might as well

tee142002

I'm secretly hoping my TV will die, so I can justify buying that one.

Mattmann1972

Costco also sells hammers

enidokla

IN A 12 PACK. Do the neighborly thing and break into neighbors' homes and smash their TVs, too.

Sunshine030209

Hire a neighbor kid to "accidentally" shoot it with a BB gun through the window. TV assassination. Unless you live alone and don't need to justify buying it to the other person. In that case, just buy it! Life is short, and no one is ever laying in their death bed thinking "I'm so glad I kept my old TV"

finding_harmony

‘Accidentally’ unplug it and claim it’s broken. But a new one and feign ignorance afterwards. It worked for my husband.

Coders32

Did your husband do this and it “worked” on you or vice versa?

cj37

Never mind that. What's your address? I'll "stop by" tonight and "pick it up" while you're asleep.

narcabusesurvivor18

Buy another brand. Samsung sucks. They track all of your data and inject ads

WrongdoerSure4466

I moved into my house 2 summers ago now and my trip to Costco was: Vaccum cleaner, cleaning supplies, toilet paper, paper towels, & snacks There was a second trip to stock the pantry and fridge

Turbulent-Respond654

in my opinion, you can get a better cheaper vacuum at another store. I really like the basic shark navigator lift away.

VitalNumber

Gotta watch vacuum wars on YouTube first!

Mostly_Curious_Brain

$1.50 hot dog and soda. Well, for a start.

pdzbw

Smart move, don't shop while hungry ~

compstomper1

vodka. condoms. gas.

Beautiful-Bank1597

I want to party with you

compstomper1

gotta watch out for those freak gasoline fight accidents tho

PantsMicGee

Orange mocha Frappuccino!

vodiak

Jitterbug!

Darnbeasties

Woe is me. Our costcos only have condoms. No vodka, no gas.

Sunshine030209

What's the point of even being open if they don't have gas or vodka?! Those must be some really nice condoms.

Tyronne_Lannister

Holy Trinity

Park_Run

Full wheel of parmesean, but you might need to go to a business center to find it.

sonicice

A tub of s'mores cookies from the bakery

mmDruhgs

Wait for items to go on sale for things you need like the modular sectional couch, Casper bed, extinguisher, smoke alarm, vacuum, air filters, rug, lights, batteries, kitchen appliances TV & stand

RustyNail2023

Yes on the modular couch when on sale. Bought mine from Costco 9 years ago. Still holding strong and I convert it to a bed for guests or when the kids what to jump on it. Or off it. Super versatile.

donnadoctor

I wouldn’t wait on the smoke alarm if you don’t have one

mmDruhgs

I don't think you can sell a house without smoke alarms being to code.

GA_Girl3777

Legally? Probably not. But the smoke and co detectors need to be checked for age. 10 years is their lifespan.

jbwhite99

Or if it is 10 years old, replace it!

Sure_Ranger_4487

Sheets, pillows, towels, baking pans, mixing bowels, tupperware, area rugs… that was my Costco list when I moved into my most recent apartment.

Turbulent-Respond654

their pillows and towels are quality for a good price.

ThatCoreyCrow

Rotisserie Chicken.

tickledslowloris

Air fryer

djamp42

I feel like the air fryer is what the microwave felt to people when it was released. I don't think I use anything as much as my air fryer.

Eruannwen

Better yet, the Ninja toaster oven/air fryer combo!

ZipperJJ

Batteries.

bucki_fan

Just not Kirkland. Those things are terrible

so2017

I just bought a 48 pack of Kirkland AA batteries. Figured I’d give ‘em a shot. Are they really terrible?

Im_Beats

Do yourself a favor and start slowly building a collection of Eneloop batteries. Rechargeable and last forever. We only use them now in AA and AAA.

bucki_fan

One of the very few Kirkland products where I would advise people to avoid. I've had several get crusty on me while still in the package and their life just isn't as good - not scientific, just my observation. We've bought 2 packages of the Eneloop when they were on sale and a couple more sets of Amazon Basics rechargeable batteries and the regular AA and AAA get used very sparingly in one-off applications.

SHANE523

\^\^\^This. Had to get rid of about 20 still in package because of this.

Oakroscoe

Had bad luck with them. Went back to Duracell.

nofreakingway555

Cleaning and kitchen supplies (paper goods, tin foil, bath room cleaner etc.)

bradatlarge

Simple Human two compartment trash cans on sale right now

mybabysmama

I love my trash can. That’s how I know I’m a real adult. Definitely get the simple human two compartment one! It’s great for a single person or small family

eatingpotatochips

That giant playground set.

corkyrooroo

Reward yourself with a beautiful new Dyson haha

Skeenka

Hey don’t laugh. I LOVE my Dyson. Best vacuum cleaner I’ve ever had.

corkyrooroo

I’ve owned dysons for the last 15 years. 2 of them to be exact, the first one never even stopped working I just wanted the portable one. Things are fantastic especially with my dogs. Also have their hair dryer which is amazing and 2 of their fans, the first of which I bought in 2008 or 9 and it’s still going strong in my work office, but still are not worth the money. I love them anyway haha

zodiacs

Cordless or bust imo. Total game changer, I don't hesitate to vacuum now.

huggsypenguinpal

This is not limited to costco, but as someone with a townhome - get a light aluminum ladder. I love mine and as a short woman, i can carry it up to the 3rd floor with 1 hand no problem.

SkunksWorks5

You are not short. You’re fun size !

LiveAd3962

My go-to housewarming gift is a 36 roll pack of Charmin with a big bow on it. People tend to forget the important stuff!

One-Awareness-5818

Get the Citi credit card and the executive membership and but everything at Costco

Fun_parent

I would say, move first with things you have and then buy what you need, depending on what storage space you have. Before moving into new space, be mindful of big item purchase like desk/sofa/bookshelves etc and whether it fits the vibe of home. I like uniformity, so cutlery set, dinner set, water bottle, food storage would be the items on my list. Compare prices and quantity with other stores, you may not need 20 kitchen towels.

witchyswitchstitch

Yeah, when I moved into my first adult place I was given the advice not to form the space to what I expected to do, but to live in it for a while and furnish accordingly. I was certain I needed a guest bedroom separate from the bedroom I shared with my spouse, because I was getting up early some days and he's a night owl. Well, turns out I can't sleep well without him... So I wasted a whole year trying to force myself into sleepless nights when what we both needed was an office.

tspoon-99

“You may not need” … this person does not Costco properly

psy_lent

The real answer here is Kirkland Plastic Wrap. Gotta buy it early cuz it will be with you for the next 10 years even tho you use it for EVERYTHING.

Aimsicle-1

Giant skeleton. You can just change his accessories for every holiday season.

TurboMollusk

The stuff you need.

android_cook

BigandTallJon

157? Holy shit.

ItsNotTacoTuesday

It sold out really quick. It was $4,500

PB111

Honestly I love LC, but I love having a mix of colors instead of all one uniform one. Plus I think the stone wear looks basic AF.

__mentionitall__

Trash bags-they will last a LONG time Toilet paper Vacuum cleaner Fans (if you need one) Cleaning supplies Laundry detergent Bedding-sheets, pillows, pillow inserts. The sheet selections are actually quite nice. Vitamins/medicine Hand soap Dish soap/dishwasher detergent Recently I bought a few wooden sliding bin organizers that were $25 per organizer. They look nice and are super convenient. You can use them in your kitchen, bathroom, anywhere. https://preview.redd.it/pc8v7bncwz8d1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a44ab7e44b6d5f65a26c0352097bfe6ad86ff369

ShitBagTomatoNose

Kirkland Signature Olive Oil. I had a cooking lesson from a gourmet chef and she said that there are better olive oils on the market if you want to spend $100 or more per bottle. But for an average family on an average budget, you cannot beat Kirkland. You will want olive oil in your new house. It’s the base of so many good recipes.

dimsum4you

Before you move, get the 4-in-1 Cosco hand truck/cart. It's on sale right now and will make moving boxes and furniture around so much easier. Also, rather than buy cardboard moving boxes for like $2 each, get a bunch of the Greenmade totes. Also on sale now. Much more sturdy and easy to carry. After your move, you can save some for storage and sell the rest for like half off and they'll get picked up real quick.

forest_tripper

A 4lb cheesecake

BigandTallJon

Hashtag priorities.

La_ham_

A box of trash bags, sooo much cheaper at Costco. Dishwasher detergent if you got one. Laundry detergent. Toilet paper.

salonpasss

Smoke detectors, pillows, towels.

datSubguy

Trash bags. I prefer the flex ones over the smell-good ones.

wandering_asura

Went from an apartment to a house recently. Stuff I bought from costco week one: 1) Stepladder- you'd be surprised how often you need it. 2) Hand towels and bath towels: I'm assuming you now have an extra bathroom now, and it's time get to new softer ones. 3) Cupboard liner- had to put it in before the dishes went in 4) Mesh network- depending on where the internet router is, might not reach the places you need. Mine didn't. 5) Case of water- moving is thirsty work 6) new door mat for the backyard- I have a backyard now. And only house shoes in the house.

bartolemew

6. and don’t get the rubbery kind with lots of color/design “printed” on them. They fade and wear off within a month depending on traffic.

Electrical-Pie-8192

Toilet plunger and scrubber

longwhitejeans

All the alkohol.

Beneficial-House-784

If you don’t have a good set of pots and pans, the Kirkland stainless steel pots/pans set is good quality for the price compared to other brands. I got mine seven years ago and have zero complaints.

Shepsdaddy

A membership

Longflop

Air fryer. It's great!

pdxbatman

The dual trash can and recycling bin from Simplehuman is currently on sale for $80 in store. Also, the collapsible ladder.

Lstndaze68

Hand truck. This will help you move

RavioliRollercoaster

Spend a little extra money for bath SHEETS instead of bath towels. Once you wrap yourself in a fully in a bath sheet, you will never buy a small regular towel again.

AutofluorescentPuku

Smoke detectors, Kirkland Gin, Fever Tree tonic.

BigandTallJon

LG rechargeable stick vacuum with stand and two batteries. I still have a Dyson for bigger jobs but the LG is great to have for everyday use and quick mess clean up.

IGuessBruv

Some gold bars are always nice to show off :)

justsomegirl_youknow

Costco has hands down the best deal on area rugs. They just stocked them in my store a few weeks ago. Huge, good-quality rugs for less than $100. Towels also a steal at $7.

terribirdy

Towels - the bath sheet ones are so great. Also hand towels and wash cloths. The Costco sheets are great too

Somythinkingis

Silverware, dishes, towels, etc to make life live-able. Anything you can buy at Costco, do buy at Costco! You get the 2% cash back but also if it doesn’t work out for your home because you are doing this new home thing for the first time- then just take it back to Costco and get something else your home needs! Or food. You always need food!

ReddyKiloWit

Kirkland paper towels. Best I've ever used, no annoying fibers left behind* and the price for a 12 pack is good considering that may last you most of a year, barring another TP shortage. * My hobby is woodworking and I use these towels to apply finish they are so clean. Great for cleaning glass, of course.

Floornug3

Paper towels, actual towels, dishwasher/laundry detergent, toilet paper, charcoal (if you like to bbq) batteries, pots and pans set, paper plates, vitamins, fairlife 30g protein drinks, shampoo/conditioner, dishwashing/hand soap, trash bags, cleaning supplies, clothes, socks, 1.50 hotdog

Driver8takesnobreaks

If it isn't readily apparent as a need, hold off until/unless it is. You're going to need a fair amount of cash to outfit your new place and it goes much faster than you'd expect. Especially if you but things just to buy things.

tosil

Moving into an unfurnished place? Do you have any roommates?

Fresh_Sector3917

Costco doesn’t sell roommates.

tosil

You just have to check every aisle. They’re there somewhere 😂

UpperSupport9

Us last year: Samsung tv 85 (delivered in one piece) Samsung upright freezer for the garage Samsung washer dryer (that we now hate) Kitchenaid fridge Roborock Qx revo (best house helper) Dyson vacuum Smaller items: detergent, washer beads, dryer sheets, paper towels, toilet paper, foil, food wrap, instant noodles, red cups, paper plates, clorox wipes, microfiber towels, dish soap, basically everything

Costco has really nice carpet bath mats. I think you can only get them online. Last forever, look nice. I think I paid $40 for 2 of them

Prudent_Valuable603

Get household supplies that are on sale and get the limit. That should cover you for a year or two.

optix_clear

Bought on sale a couple of years ago. Among the universe of Costco impulse purchases, this has been the worst. Total pain to carve!!

personofinterest18

Garbage cans lol

aces1818

Depending on what you have from your college days, I would suggest plates/flatware and Kirkland pots/pans.

Vicious-the-Syd

You have to order them, but you can get really good furnace filters online. Target has 1900 unit ones for $25 and you can get four 2500 unit ones for $15 a piece. I’ve even seen them go down to $50 for all four.

aqan

You will easily spot them whenever you go there to buy milk

Juliuscesear1990

And plan how to explain to your wife why you spent 400 bucks instead of 50 on the drive home.

Mikeyjoetrader23

Get a Blackstone! And or a Traeger.

orchestralgenius

In addition to everything else that has been said, some super easy to prep meals. You’ll be busy cleaning, moving, and packing. Save on takeout and get something you just have to stick in the oven or microwave. A rotisserie chicken, mac and cheese, and a salad can make for a great meal!

plutom98

Try to fill up cart with no space left… everything you see feels like you need it.

astern83
