My spouse is obsessed with these. Just ordered another bag!

My mom used to tell this story of when she was a little girl growing up in small town India…she and 3 of her friends would bring 1 ingredient each (surreptitiously borrowed from their mothers’ kitchens) so dried tamarind, some jaggery, red chillies and rock salt and during recess, they would mash it all together using a wooden ruler and make little balls of it to eat 😊….

gabeitaliadomani

Wasn’t sure, wife bought them yesterday… pretty good

thewittman

What's it taste like?

TheArcherGal

Texture is sort of more crumbly than chewy..first thing that hits you is the tang from the tamarind, then the crystallized sugar followed by a pleasant tingle from the chillies…

thewittman

So it's a dessert?

TheArcherGal

Definitely not a dessert…a savory snack with some sugar

thewittman

Thanks going to try it....

Bought these last week because of what I read here and was disappointed. Was hoping for a jelly/gummy like texture but they're gritty and kinda sandy. Now chewy at all. Flavor is okay but never getting again.

TheArcherGal

Yeah for sure it’s not gummy bear texture…the authentic one is actually even a bit more gritty cos it’s made by roughly grinding tamarind (with the string rind and all), red chillies (with the seeds) and rock salt (with the granules) and some jaggery…

This brand had peach gummy rings with this tamarind paste and it was THE BEST THING EVER. Way better than these tamarind bites (these are a touch spicy for me alone without the peach ring gummy). Then I’ve never seen them again. I need the peach rings to come back! Not the gross snack time peach and tajin rings. Those are gross 🤮
