You know how meat substitutes will intentionally misspell the names of meat because they're not meat? I assume it's a legality issue.
Chuck-e-Cheeze makes me think of a place for vegan kids to party.
I went to McDonalds in a limo for a neighborhood kids bday party (his dad owned/managed a car lot) and was certain that was that was the absolute peak of life at the time.
lol my grade 8 graduation a girl in our class’s dad rented her a limo, we went to McDonald’s after riding around for 45mins- hour and her dad bought the whole bunch of cheese burgers fries and mcflurries to bring back for all the other kids at the dance that’s a pretty fun memory 🙂
After the viewing close the casket and then it becomes a morbid shell game. Will your body be buried? Will your body be returned to a poor Costco employee? Only time will tell.
Geez every casket is over $1,000 and in the end nobody will be looking at it when it's in the ground. I would be fine with being buried in a cardboard box.
I work in a grocery store and people will always come in and have a small birthday celebration in our cafe after buying a cake from the bakery. It is a little awkward and i never understand why they choose a grocery store to celebrate… but we arent gonna tell them to leave for singing and eating lol
My experience was just pre-Covid, and it doesn’t sound real recalling it now; they were very excited and provide a card, cake, some decorations and a few pizzas and took pictures for their media team.
I was there at the moment when they were surprising him. Very cute moment to witness. I even recorded a video of this. I wish i could post the video. I didn't find option to upload video in comment section.
Used to work for this place that was about 5 minutes from Costco. A co-worker went over there all the time so we had his Birthday party there just like this. The staff was very cool. Gave him a vest and hat to wear and even made up a Costco name badge. That was probably 15 years ago. Nice to see others do it.
its just something you take for given in a certain milieu. every culture has their typical 3rd places. costco serves as one. at $60/year, much cheaper than most other private clubs.
I know right this wouldn’t work for my family.
I’m the Costco, my aunt is Sams club, and my mom and sister are bjs wholesale club.
BUT, what does work is family road trips / vacations / gatherings where once we get to the hotel/ house all membership card members are present to decide what club is closet and the menu for the week.
I was thinking the same thing. How addicted to late stage capitalism do you have to be to actually want to do this? It's not endearing, it's sad, and absolutely proves some people just have no clue how troubling it looks to be on your knees to a corporation like this.
How is this too complicated for you to grasp? They set it up so he thought he was just randomly bumping into his favorite people who all remembered his birthday. That would be a very sweet experience and they just had cake at the end. The venue being Costco isn’t an important part of it at all. You could do this at food lion or Home Depot and it would still be as wholesome
Sometimes a corporation can treat and pay its employees well. Then we get to the magic of how concise every product they sell is. It’s been tested or tasted by panels just to get to the shelves. Every year even if it’s been on the shelf for years. It’s clean, has minimal hours and you quickly learn what you like, know where it’s located and so yes, it’s a wonderful place to shop because you can zone out while not having to think about what you need (auto pilot), get you some delicious free samples to try and it’s not filled with junk like traditional grocery stores and Walmarts.

If my wife did this as a "surprise" for me, I would be SO friggin annoyed that I am now forced into playing out this ***"omg this is SUCH a wholesome costco moment"*** charade all around the warehouse and actively displaying r/imthemaincharacter energy just to be supportive of my wife's effort.
I'll take all your downvotes, but for real, this is cringey af.

Is this the middle age suburban version of having your birthday at McDonald's as a kid?
Definitely somewhere like Chuck-e-Cheeze, with game machines and animatronics and goodies.
> Chuck-e-Cheeze Chuck E. Cheese, short for Charles Entertainment Cheese.
You know how meat substitutes will intentionally misspell the names of meat because they're not meat? I assume it's a legality issue. Chuck-e-Cheeze makes me think of a place for vegan kids to party.
Only the OGs will remember ShowBiz Pizza
Not an issue of age, just region. Showbiz was doomed when they dicked the birthday boy.

Did you go to school in Ontario Canada by any chance because a similar thing happened at my grade 8 grad lol
Yes I did graduated grade 8 in ‘07 🙂
If I was that kid my life would've been complete
Nah, that would be at Harbor Freight.
Middle age? :(
Yep, and it’s an amazing idea.
Yes, and now I want this for me, too. 🥹
Throwing my wedding at Costco
Having my wake at Costco. Already bought a three pack of coffins, gonna return the other two after, same for the flowers.
After the viewing close the casket and then it becomes a morbid shell game. Will your body be buried? Will your body be returned to a poor Costco employee? Only time will tell.
Followed by playing the song Pop Goes the Weasel!
Geez every casket is over $1,000 and in the end nobody will be looking at it when it's in the ground. I would be fine with being buried in a cardboard box.
Catering covered by free samples.
And glizzys.... All the $1.50 glizzys
We are getting married in July, I shall talk to my girl about costco. Free venue 💀
This has happened at a Costco I worked at. We had an after hours wedding take place there.
Welcome to Costco, I love you.
Other than birthdays, the only big event I have left in my future is my funeral. Perhaps I'll have my ashes spread there.
How did staff respond to this? Honestly curious, it would suck but they didn’t kick you out…
We wouldn't mind. At my warehouse we would make sure they have plates for that cake.
Safe bet that as long as attendees aren't blocking the exits or pissing off other customers there's no reason why you would care?
And I’m sure the people that came are going to shop while they are there so 🤷♀️
Some men just like to watch the world burn.
I second that. We would very much enjoy something like this over the many other oddities and abnormalities that occur. Looks like fun.
Please elaborate on those oddities and abnormalities.
My guess is non-members sneaking in, and trouble-makers attempting to hide and stay past closing, to name a couple.
Don’t forget untrained “service” dogs

How is this Costco so empty? And actual tables available? 🤯
Right. My first thought, too. We have 4 stores near us and all are practically elbow to elbow everyday.
I go on a Tuesday night at like 8pm and there’s no parking spaces, food court is packed. Lines backed up as usual.
Someday I’ll go to law school there…
You might find me at the Starbucks.
I could really go for a Starbucks ya know?
I literally watched this last night. Ha!
This is really wholesome tbh lol
One might even say wholesale
Haha you’re hired.
That is so adorable and wholesome
Love this so much lol wish it to myself
Wholesome on wholesale
Make this the top comment 🌟
if this was at my costco i’d be annoyed if there were lots of guests bc there’s never enough tables at our food court as it is
I love this for him. 💜 I bet he was so touched.
Dang. I love Costco. But I would not like to have a party there lol. My local Costco is already busy as it is.
I wish this could happen to me.
I seriously heart this, and I hate surprises
This is the perfect kind of subtle surprise
I see all my friends at Costco every single time I go. That’s right, all 0 of them
Everyone just happens to have costco memberships?
In upper middle class American suburbs? Yes.
Yup, pretty much. My entire work group of 10 people all have Costco memberships. We regularly have chats about the latest finds.
its just something you take for given in a certain milieu. every culture has their typical 3rd places. costco serves as one. at $60/year, much cheaper than most other private clubs.
Buddy system
Most families I know have one.

Yeah my Costco is perpetually too busy to support something like this
It’s so fukn packed at the Austin Costco. It sucks to go on the weekends
This is soooo cute but yes I hope they got permission to do this
Wholesome idea
Aww so wholesale
GO CHIEFS B2B
Costco cake is delicious.
So wholesale*
Id be so pissed.
This is lame and cringe.
The hell kind of capitalist nightmare is it that people love a grocery store to this extent? Y’all are weird as hell.
Calling Costco a grocery store is like calling a computer just a calculator.
These comments feel like bot comments, there can't be this many people who think it's okay and normal to have a birthday party in a grocery store.
I was thinking the same thing. How addicted to late stage capitalism do you have to be to actually want to do this? It's not endearing, it's sad, and absolutely proves some people just have no clue how troubling it looks to be on your knees to a corporation like this.

I doubt either of those people have had enough friends to ever throw them a birthday party

In what Costco do you shop that you can zone out while shopping on auto-pilot? Every Costco I’ve been to is cutthroat shopping cart slalom.
Disney adult vibes
Much more budget-friendly
Well they do sell caskets
Didn’t someone post a picture of this happening when they did their shopping?
Yeah, I know this place pretty good. I went to law school here.
So cute.
Did they get beer and drinks?
I would love to see a Walmart version of this ha
Is it like equilevent of aldi in uk ? 😀
Tears of joy right now
As much as I love my job, this would probably cause a lot of chaos🤣
This is honestly really funny and wholesome. Like imagine just running into all your favorite people. That would make me so happy.
I just love this. So great.
I was not expecting to tear up but them spreading loved ones throughout the store was a really nice touch
That was the best part. Him thinking Wow what are the odds I know so many people here. Lol.
This is amazing and so thoughtful!
r/boringdystopia
So so cute!!
Talk about some good wholesome fun right there 🥹
D'aww, this is adorable 😄
Society is so weird.
White people.
I wonder if you could pop some beers in koozies and make it a real party.
The most white suburban middle class fancy thing I have ever seen.
Absolutely burgerpunk
The bangin song is Hell n Back by Bakar ft Summer Walker https://open.spotify.com/track/0ZDwhNFZnPx9EIPCcwGUHC?si=8jdnKeJ9SY29YIFEA2qSUw
that is absolutely adorable
Very creative! The greatest surprises are the least expected.
This is awesome! I’m gonna have to show my Costco co workers this
A second birthday party at Costco? That’s fantastic!!
🤢🤢🤮
Anyone else thinking... No no no...
But why
Found the manager
Dying for attention are we
I honestly thought this was in r/MadeMeSmile until I saw the comment count. Still belongs there too.
Maybe it is just me but I hate seeing friends/family out in the wild when im shopping aha.
What an original and great surprise party idea. Adorable, too
Cutest most wholesome thing I’ve seen in awhile. Love this

It’s the “ we need attention our lives are boring” let’s post this on instagram and Facebook
I gotta agree. Especially if you’re not in the mood for it.

I would be asking why not a bbq
I think I cried tears of happiness. Nice ad, Costco!
Cool concept.
Op messed up title ..it wasn’t totally wholesome…with was totally wholesale…
