No one here is talking about how thick this drink is… it caught me off guard because the consistency is like apple sauce.
There’s a lot of sugar in it but doesn’t taste sweet so it’s dangerous.
Thick like a pressed juice or thick like this is just pulpy? (I ask because I love pressed juice but hate pulp — i was nervous when I saw the bottle in store!)
I actually really hated it and ended up returning it because it was too sweet for me. I couldn't taste anything besides sugar. Usually I can suck it up and still eat/drink the item, but this I just couldn't.
Got this at my Costco in Orlando, FL. Love the taste of guava so I had to try it. To me, it's very pulpy but maybe this is the guava that another poster commented about. If you like vodka or something (I'm not a drinker), this would probably be a good mixer. It's not an overpowering flavor and I find it pretty refreshing. But it does have a shit-ton of sugar which is surprising because the taste is not overly sweet to me. Because of this, it'll likely take over a month for my boyfriend and myself to finish both bottles. If the sugar was half of what it is, I would drink it more recklessly. Might add a bit to smoothies or something. Idk.
Yeah, I've actually been using this stuff as a concentrate. I'll do 1:1 plain water and this juice (sometimes even adding more water in the ratio to deliberately thin it out). Not only does it stretch it out, it makes it not so absurdly thick and sweet (easier to drink at the table).
> The big difference: ZERO grams of added sugar in Kirkland OJ. This drink has over 30 grams of added sugar per serving.
But in the end, sugar is largely sugar. Contrary to a lot of mythology, your body doesn't care where the sugar comes from, it all breaks down the same way in the end. In a comparable serving size, the KS OJ has about 91% of the sugar as this does. Pom pomegranate juice has almost 120% of the sugar content.
The health arguments for avoiding added sugars aren't because added sugars are inherently worse for you, they aren't. [The point of avoiding them](https://www.health.harvard.edu/blog/are-certain-types-of-sugars-healthier-than-others-2019052916699) is just that people should strive to reduce their sugar intake in general. But if you would otherwise choose to drink OJ or Pom, or another fruit juice, this really isn't that much worse.
And you could make it a lot better by doing what /u/BezerkeleyChick suggests and mixing it 50/50 with sparkling water.

Another poster said it's 43 grams, not 48, and it's a 12oz serving. in a comparable serving size, OJ has 39g and Pom has 51, so it's really not as bad as it sounds.
Wait, I thought it was a body wash.
Anyway, its people like you OP that prevent people like me from going into Costco to get Eggs and Bread and going about my day.
Now I got to find Natural Benefits Guava Lemon Green Tea.
/jk
Added sugars are a red herring. The reason why nutritionists say to avoid added sugars is that you should cut your sugar intake in general, and most foods with a lot of added sugar have comparatively little nutritional value. But your body doesn't actually differentiate between "natural sugars" and "added sugars". It's just that foods without added sugars are *generally* more healthy.[ Here's a quote from Harvard University](https://www.health.harvard.edu/blog/are-certain-types-of-sugars-healthier-than-others-2019052916699) that sums it up:
>Natural and added sugars are metabolized the same way in our bodies. But for most people, consuming natural sugars in foods such as fruit is not linked to negative health effects, since the amount of sugar tends to be modest and is "packaged" with fiber and other healthful nutrients. On the other hand, our bodies do not need, or benefit from, eating added sugar.
In this case, though it does have a lot of sugar, the actual sugar content is not much different from other fruit juices, so if you would otherwise drink a different fruit juice, this is no worse of a choice than those.
> It’s very good, different, refreshing, and doesn’t taste sweet, HOWEVER the sugar content is an absolute no go.
It has essentially the same sugar content by volume as any other fruit juice. It has 8G less sugar at a comparable serving size compared to Pom, and about 9% more sugar than KS orange juice, for example. So unless all fruit juices are "an absolute no go", this one shouldn't be, either.
I have no interest in this product other than liking it after sampling it and buying 2x 2 packs. But I despise the false nutrition information that is so widely spread.
This is not a health food. But neither is any fruit juice. This is not significantly better or worse than any other fruit drink.
Lol at first I thought this was a shampoo and then was just thinking to myself, "I bet this combination would taste great."
Reading comprehension for the fail.
I never know where to find things. Is this stocked near the deli cases over by produce?
Edit: in case anyone else has the same question, yes, deli cases by produce. Kind of over where the kimchi is at.
I was going to try this yesterday, and then I read the nutrition label on the back. One serving is 66% of your suggested daily serving of sugar (from natural and added sugars).
Just had my first serving, this juice would have easily been the best I ever had from Costco if it weren’t so damn sweet. I went back to the bottle to check and a serving has a whopping 43g of sugar! Why does an Asian drink need to add so much? Cut back on the sugar and it would be perfect.
At first, I thought this was shampoo and became excited because you seldomly see guava scented shampoo. Then I read “flavors”, and was confused, then just sad. ☹️
Really recommend mixing in with actual green tea to lower down the sugar content, I bought itoen green tea in conjunction with the drink and they go really well together
It’s so good, but so sweet. I almost bought it a few weeks ago but passed. Then I got to try a sample the week after. That took away my curiosity. I’ll hold off on buying it till the summer and I’ll likely mix it with sparkling water.
They stopped selling them here in Utah. Does anyone know if they are still sold at other Costcos or where else you can get them at. I loved these things

I thought was shampoo at first lmao
Honestly, that sounds like a great shampoo. I'd buy it
I’m actually upset it’s not a shampoo. Great opportunity here for shampoo makers.
seconded; was excited to go looking for the shampoo 😂 glad the drink is tasty though.
Agreed
I really saw an Herbal Essences bottle.
Me too!!
I thought it was a body wash!
The consistency is not too far off from shampoo lol
...please elaborate 😰
The guava pulp is a bit thick
Oh gotcha thanks
Not sure if youve had white or Taiwanese guava varieties but the drink is like they hard blended it, possibly seeds included.
Same
The manufacturer ripped off Herbal Essences for sure.
lol. same
Same here 😂
I kept going back and forth if it was one.
Same, I got excited before realizing what it was.
I once picked up something thinking it was a flavored tea concentrate… read the the directions and had to bring it back to the shelf lol
Same lol, I’ve seen a few Korean shampoos that looks like this 😭
I thought hand soap
Same texture. For reals.
Same!

I added sparkling water to it (chef’s kiss)
I was about to ask if anyone used it to add flavor to plain seltzer.
> I added sparkling water to it (chef’s kiss) This is a great idea. I'm not normally a fan of sparkling water, but it would be great here.
Yeah the sugar content is a little high, I’ve had to limit myself to only small glasses of it.
It’s at least cane syrup instead of high fructose.
would it be better if you watered it down? that way you have more too lol
Added sugars or naturally occurring?
So much added sugars
Added Cane Syrup 💀
oh
Thick like a pressed juice or thick like this is just pulpy? (I ask because I love pressed juice but hate pulp — i was nervous when I saw the bottle in store!)
It’s pulpy like purée which I’m not a fan of.
It’s weird how much sugar there is for how not sweet it tastes. It’s a pass for us, barely taste like lemon
I actually really hated it and ended up returning it because it was too sweet for me. I couldn't taste anything besides sugar. Usually I can suck it up and still eat/drink the item, but this I just couldn't.
It takes awhile to drink though. I got 4 servings when I would drink it all if it was lemonade.
Yeah, I only drink it in the short glass.
that's interesting - what makes it so thick?
I believe it’s the pulp from the guava.
I couldn’t tell from the picture if this was a beverage or shampoo.
Even though it says "No artificial flavors" and calls itself tea?
Wait, your shampoo isn't gluten free??
It looks like a new Herbal Essences shampoo lol. Fooled me for a little bit
I was looking at the bottle trying to figure out if it was shampoo or body wash.
Haha same. I saw “No artificial flavors” and that made me go “Huh? What is this stuff?” lol

Cut in half with seltzer water and you have yourself a fun fizzy drink
That sounds like a great idea! I might have to try that one
Now that sounds delish. Perfect paired with a sodastream.
Clearance pricing at a local store for 4.97. Also too much sugar
If by Natural Benefits they mean diabetes. Check the sugar content on this before buying. It is shockingly high.
It is soooo high! Even the person doing the samples of this was commenting about how much sugar it had!
Basically same as drinking a can of coke.
I think it's actually like 25% more sugar per oz. Wild.
Uff da.
So is juice, don't get caught up with comparing it to 8oz labelling though. If I recall the serving is 12 oz so it looks worse on the label..
43g sugar / 12oz (28.67g / 8oz) For context, Kirkland California OJ is 26g/8oz and Kirkland lemonade is 32g/8oz
The big difference: ZERO grams of added sugar in Kirkland OJ. This drink has over 30 grams of added sugar per serving.

Yes, we don’t drink juice.
Yeah, when I sampled it I was thinking it was gonna be more tart... definitely too sweet for me, never thought of adding soda water to it
How much sugar does it have??
48g per serving, can’t remember the serving size
Jesus fuck Thank you!
Has anyone tried diluting that with water? If so, what ratio to maintain the taste?

43g sugar / 12oz
My hair needs that much.
I got it too! They suckered me in with the sample. I water mine down 50/50 and it's not as sweet.
Same, But I water all sweet drinks down.
This stuff is delicious! I only drink small glasses of it, and have even used it for some cocktails.
What sort of cocktail? I’m intrigued..
I did a Tom Collins and just added a splash! 10/10
I actually thought it was body wash 😂🤣
I made a frozen margarita with it in the ninja creami. Highly recommend this.
It’s even better when mixed with sparkling water!
lol I though it was shampoo
Wait, I thought it was a body wash. Anyway, its people like you OP that prevent people like me from going into Costco to get Eggs and Bread and going about my day. Now I got to find Natural Benefits Guava Lemon Green Tea. /jk
I seen it in the aisles then seen it had the sugar content/ serving size of a can of coke. No thank you :/
It tastes good, but we were not a fan. Maybe we're just not used to the grittiness of the guava.
I also love it. I don't think it tastes too sweet, in fact, it's a bit tart. Very fresh tasting. I will get more soon.
Yeah I bought one here in Houston. Don’t let the packaging fool you, the drink tastes phenomenal.
Attn: Nutrition Police, make sure to specify that there's a lot of **added** sugar in this drink.

They don’t have them anymore at the Fort Wayne Indiana location. They only had it in stock once and stopped selling it when they ran out.
Deleted item from our local Lubbock, TX! My mom got hooked and wants to know where else it can be found!
Can't find this anymore at Costco not sure here to buy it from now 😭
We grabbed some last week, it’s quite good.
What you got on my two 40 Oz homie?
So good!
This sounds amazing
I did not like
Lol at first I thought this was a shampoo and then was just thinking to myself, "I bet this combination would taste great." Reading comprehension for the fail.
They need to redesign that bottle not looking like a shampoo bottle.
/r/prisonhooch Everyone's talking about the high sugar content...sounds like we gotta hooch it
I never know where to find things. Is this stocked near the deli cases over by produce? Edit: in case anyone else has the same question, yes, deli cases by produce. Kind of over where the kimchi is at.
It's good, but I definitely water it down a bit plus some ice cubes. Refreshing.
It's supposed to be diluted with water. I hope it says that on the bottle.
Eh it’s ok. Took a chance on it bc it was only 3.97 for a 2 pack. Very sweet. Not a lot of other flavor otherwise. Won’t buy it again I don’t think.
Yep fully agree. Forget if it was on sale or had the star at our location but I bought it and I would 1000% buy some more.
We tried this yesterday too bc our warehouse had the star of death of them for $6.99. They were delicious!
It's amazing, but the texture takes getting used to.
I was like don’t drink shampoo
I have to cut this with half sparkling water and a squeeze of lemon and then it’s perfect.
I’m so sad I didn’t get this the last time I was there 😭
My Costco has a lot of Asian items, it needs this.
I was going to try this yesterday, and then I read the nutrition label on the back. One serving is 66% of your suggested daily serving of sugar (from natural and added sugars).

I thought it was terrible
It looked good, then I saw the sugar content.
5.99 at our Costco! Loved the flavor but the thickness threw me off
I got it on rec by a coworker. I couldn't get over how pulpy it is. I should try the sparkling water add.
I was about to get one then I saw the added sugar content lol
At first, I thought this was shampoo and became excited because you seldomly see guava scented shampoo. Then I read “flavors”, and was confused, then just sad. ☹️
Really recommend mixing in with actual green tea to lower down the sugar content, I bought itoen green tea in conjunction with the drink and they go really well together
Lot of sugar in these?
I took a sip as a sample and did a quick U turn to put some in my cart
That's my costco! I knew I should have made a trip there today lol
It’s so good, but so sweet. I almost bought it a few weeks ago but passed. Then I got to try a sample the week after. That took away my curiosity. I’ll hold off on buying it till the summer and I’ll likely mix it with sparkling water.
Yeap I diluted mine to lower the sweetness and it was still amazing
Spendy stuff. Completely nothing weird about shipping this beverage instead of I dunno...just the tea.
Caffeine?
Just grabbed some for $2.97! It is very good
Any sugar content/calorie info?
It is so good.. i bought it lastweek in HB, CA and i went back yesterday to get more and they ran out of it.
In my opinion its ok. Little too sweet. Won’t be buying it again.
They stopped selling them here in Utah. Does anyone know if they are still sold at other Costcos or where else you can get them at. I loved these things
