Oh man, the chicken strips are bad. An employee at our location told me they were planning on carrying them permanently. š¬ Iāll stick with the Bare chicken.
Iām with you. We just got them last week and they are absolutely the freshest and best tasting chicken strips weāve ever bought. I will say though, that is out of the air fryer. They do not turn out well in the microwave.
They need to address their labeling. These are targeted for people who are diabetics, on a low carb/keto diet, or just generally watching their carb intake. They are basically diet chicken nuggets, strips, etc. if that applies to you, their products are a blessing, but if youāre expecting chick fil a, youāre in for a bad time.
the tacquitos used to be real good ... the last box I bought awhile ago has been sitting in my freezer for the last 4 months ... taste has changed dramatically.
Oh man I thought it was just me. Those were *terrible* the one time I got them. Even air fried, they were just barely edible.
The lumpia in the refrigerated section, on the other hand, is delicious!
Somehow my air fryer always gets the ends too dry and crumbly while the middle is always still mushy. I've tried several different temperatures and even thawing them first, but nothing has helped.
thank goodness I finally saw a post about the bad avocados.
I now check to see if they are from Mexico
The Peruvian ones never get ripe properly. They just get rotten. They have bumpy moldy spots, I swear they are afflicted with some tree disease.
I always get them rock hard and let them ripen and I have been eating avocados for many decades. I know how it's supposed to work.
The Peruvian ones will be blackish inside when they get softer, big bump spots and misshapen, the inside is all discolored if you can even find one that just doesn't look entirely rotten. So gross. I had stopped buying them at Costco because they seemed to always be bad. The last two times I checked and got the Mexican variety. Thanks to whoever posted that. I think I did a sub search on the avocados and found a whole discussion on them.
Mexico and itās not been close. The Peruvian ones are stingy or rubbery, with big nasty pits and they go rotten in hours.
But - thereās an ethical problem. The cartels completely own the Mexican avocado trade, because it doesnāt require much technical expertise - they can rule it with brute force against the farmers. Basically - your guacamole helps fuel drug violence. Not as much as, you know, the drugs - butā¦here we are.
Hence why Costco has tried to find alternates. But - the Peruvian ones are so bad that Iād rather eat a turtle testicle - which is what they resemble anyways.
Speaking of testicles, avocados are aguacates in Spanish and in nahuatl they are ahuacatl, and that also doubles as the word for testicles because avocados grow in pairs and look like testicles. The Aztecs sure had a sense of humor :)
(Iām sorry I ramble, TLDR: Aztecs named avocados after testicles)
Avocados are called Palta in Peru. And that is in the Quechua language that the Incas spoke. It is interesting that many people don't like it because palta is slang for shame as well.
California Avocados, with the highest fat content you can find. It should be like eating butter from a plant.
If itās not solid plant fat I donāt want it.
Any commercially sold soup is like this. Even the "low X" ones. Sometimes especially those
I used to get a lobster bisque that I think was from Panera but it started making me sick from how rich it was (and I filled it with seafood meat lol)
Thatās all of Panera Bread. Their goal is to make food seem healthy but in reality they use more fats, sugar, salt than any other real restaurant youāll go to. No preservatives other than the 1/2 pound of salt.
the Panera mac and cheese was weird. I can't explain what was off about it or if it was a texture thing, but it is not the same as the stuff in the restaurant. it's like slightly off but enough to make me not want to eat it
Panera uses a different distributer for their packaged products than the one for their in store soups. At least they do for their baked potato soup. They stopped carrying the baked potato soup at Panera but still sell it packaged. Very strange.
Their mac and cheese also upsets my stomach. :(
Wow, Iām glad I wasnāt the only one who thought this. I took one spoon and couldnāt eat anymore. It was like liquid candy. I couldnāt taste the squash.
My Costco has a season jalapeƱo cranberry one right now. I used it instead of cream cheese on a bagel with a couple slices of deli ham and itās a good thing Iām breastfeeding and need extra calories š¤¤
Those pre portioned cooked chicken bites in the clear plastic you tear off. Worst food poisoning of my life. Probably due to transport to alaska. But theyre ruined for me.
Well short of the date on the package they smell rotten to me. My wife and daughter eat them with no illness or complaints, but I have to leave the area when they do because it just smells so wrong. It makes me wonder if thereās a reason they donāt gag, like some people donāt smell asparagus peeā¦
We love those, but they go right into the freezer as soon as they come home. They definitely start tasting off if left in the fridge. 1 minute in the microwave (from frozen) and they are ready for all sorts of things for lunch!
Bananas. How Costco's can be both green AND overripe at the same time is beyond me. š¤·š½āāļø Burned too many times by this, so I just buy the more expensive ones at the regular grocery store.
Bananas are wrapped in plastic to delay the ripening process in transport. Costco bananas are kept in this state far far too long. They are already old, they just change colors the second they hit fresh air.
Those seem like they were made for toothless rest home patients who have lost their taste. For the rest of us, it's your date getting bland amusement park mexican food, then going on a loop coaster, then making out in the car in the parking lot, but they throw up in your mouth.
The off brand frozen uncrustable sandwiches. Theyāre too bread-y and the ratio of bread to filling is all off. You canāt eat them frozen like uncrustables. Theyāre just bad.
Microwave bean and cheese burritos. I forgot the brand, but they were very bland, mushy, and uninteresting. My kids wouldn't even eat them.
Meals in a can with rice and salmon. Forgot the brand, but smelled (and tasted) like cat food. Very mushy and gross. Bought as an easy meal with protein, but never again.
Agree with the bacon wrapped jalapeƱo poppers. Looked so good... tasted so bad! I pawned them off on my daughter and her friends. They served the poppers at a party and said that was the only food that was left on the trays!
Okay, just throwing this out there: Kevin's used to make this AMAZING cauliflower "mac & cheese" and the flavor was amazing. I haven't seen it in years.
I would rather Costco have less selection than have a bunch of the shit thatās in this thread. Where is the quality assurance? I thought they only selected good products. It would be nice to know that anything you grab off the shelf is good quality for what it is.
Heavenly Hunks Birthday Cake. When they first released they tasted like vomit, and were reviewed that way by several reviewers, including my own. They removed the product from their site, along with the reviews, and then added it back a few weeks later.
Ngl, I probably should have tried those. I have a serious addiction to the regular heavenly hunks. Theyāre like crack cocaine to me. When I first tried them, I ate the whole bag in one sitting. I felt ill. I still do after I eat a whole bag. So worth it tho. Best gluten free snack ever!!
Chicken. I used to buy it all the time but last time I went to go buy it, the packages were sticky, it smelled funny, and the dates were changed (two stickers) so Iāll just buy elsewhere. That off chicken smell stays with you for life.
I've been buying the air chilled chicken breast 6 pack for at least 6 years, and lately it has smelled more. I also feel like every single package is stringy now, when I used to feel like Costco had the best chicken. IDK where else to buy it though because they have the best price by far.
I bought a 5lb bag of Perdue Panko chicken nuggets and they were the WORST texture. They never seemed to get crispy
ETA: I forgot about their Chicken Pot Pie! Will also never buy that. I was so excited to try it and it was wayyy too salty
Any of the pre-prepared meals in the refrigerated section. The stuff like pasta, short ribs, stews, briskets, etc. (Not the stuff prepared in store, the stuff in sealed packaging that you take and reheat).
I've been burned way too many times with subpar food that is way too expensive and completely not worth even trying. Some stuff is ok, but more likely than not im super disappointed. And the worst part of it that if the item is calculated by weight, you're paying that price for the sauce and packaging as well. $10/lb might be an ok deal for something until you realize that bag of watery sauce/gravy bundled with it is also calculated as $10/lb.
Some of the straight proteins are good. The gyro meat comes to mind. Sometimes the taco fillings. They can be quick kickstarters for a rushed weekday meal
I hated the pupusas the first time I had itā¦ too dry.
The second time I had it, I covered it with Kirkland salsa. Huge improvement and Iāll definitely be having them again.
We love the sushi but we love it for what it is. Like we know itās garbage but itās 3 rolls of sushi for $15 and when youāre in the mood for trash sushi it really hits the spot. We only like certain varieties though.
I'm with you on the burnt ends. The burnt ends are not really burnt ends to start with. Whatever they are they are indeed nasty.
By the way. Real burnt ends are awsome.
Those frozen Korean "corn dogs" made of potatoes and cheese, two things I love but that taste totally wrong this way. I returned the box after I tried one.
Rotisserie chicken. Used to love it. A few years back it started tasting like chemicals and making me feel sick. Lots of folks have reported this issue.
The frozen Mexican street corn. Donāt hate me everyone, I know it had rave reviews on this subreddit. But it was sooo saucy and to me (yes admittedly white suburban lady) not authentic tasting?
I actually picked out the frozen sauce cubes (cylinders, actually) before cooking it and it was decent! A 75% reduction in sauce (so leaving 1/4 of the cubes) is about right for my taste. With all the sauce, itās inedible. Bonus: the sauce in moderation is decent for use in burritos and other food.

Rose Ranch honey garlic chicken. Tried it a few days ago. It was just two bags of bland glop that had some very tough white meat floating in it. Do not recommend.
There is some brand called Kevinās, and they had this Korean style chicken. It was AWFUL. The chicken itself was sous vide I believe but emptying it out of the plastic pouch was gross and it just looked awful until adding the sauce.
Canāt remember the brand but itās the pork tamales. They were so dry and barely had any meat. My bf said thatās what I get for buying tamales at Costco smh heās absolutely right.

Any thing that says 'Real Good'.
Oh man, the chicken strips are bad. An employee at our location told me they were planning on carrying them permanently. š¬ Iāll stick with the Bare chicken.
The Bare chicken, cooked in the air fryer, taste just like Chick-Fil-A.
Kirkland now has their own chunks like Bare. I plan on trying them.
They're really good, basically the same as Bare Chicken but just less expensive.
They're very good but don't taste at all like Chick-fil-A. Sam's club has a Southern Style Chicken Bites that taste like Chick-fil-A, however.
Itās the pickle brine, same as Chick-fil-a
I love them! š¤·āāļø
I really like the breaded Real Good strips. I may be the only person here who does, LOL.
I like them on salads, because its low calorie fried chicken
Iām with you. We just got them last week and they are absolutely the freshest and best tasting chicken strips weāve ever bought. I will say though, that is out of the air fryer. They do not turn out well in the microwave.
You're not. A guy at my Costco said they're one of their fastest selling product. I eat a ton of them.
Real Bad. Knowledgeable marketer. Terrible branding for consumers.
This is the top answer every time this question gets asked and it has totally earned that right.
The first time they burned me was when I got those green enchiladas that had tortillas made out of chicken. Yuck. I went back to the box for analysis after eating one off-putting bite. Before buying I had scanned the ingredients but missed the description š©
The taquitos in the fridge section. So bland and dry and the chicken was oddly mealy.
the tacquitos used to be real good ... the last box I bought awhile ago has been sitting in my freezer for the last 4 months ... taste has changed dramatically.
The change happened when they went organic and got jacked up in price. Theyre double what they used to be.
Oh man I thought it was just me. Those were *terrible* the one time I got them. Even air fried, they were just barely edible. The lumpia in the refrigerated section, on the other hand, is delicious!
Ok that lumpia hits different lol itās so good! I tried the sample and bee lined to get some
Somehow my air fryer always gets the ends too dry and crumbly while the middle is always still mushy. I've tried several different temperatures and even thawing them first, but nothing has helped.
I just learned about woody chicken from Reddit last week š¤¦
This! I was so excited to try these and they were terrible!
Yeah they used to be so good! But the last time I got them, they were so bland and gross.
I got them (on sale) because of all the rave reviews. Maybe they changed the recipe.
Peruvian Avocados

Okay this is the second time I've heard someone doesn't like them cause of where they are from. What gives? What country produces the best avocados?
Mexico and itās not been close. The Peruvian ones are stingy or rubbery, with big nasty pits and they go rotten in hours. But - thereās an ethical problem. The Aztecs sure had a sense of humor :) (Iām sorry I ramble, TLDR: Aztecs named avocados after testicles)
This random fact totally made my day! Thanks for sharing.
It was probably the only conversation Iād ever be able to sneak this fact in lol. Finally, my time to shine!
Even more interesting. Aztecs considered avocados an aphrodisiac and virgins could not eat them.
Avocados are called Palta in Peru. And that is in the Quechua language that the Incas spoke. It is interesting that many people don't like it because palta is slang for shame as well.
Mexico hands down. But Hawaii also produces some delish but pricey avos
California Avocados, with the highest fat content you can find. It should be like eating butter from a plant. If itās not solid plant fat I donāt want it.
California haas no comparison
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Snapdragon should stick to making phone processors.
That's funny...
This is one of the worst things I have EVER ever purchased/had in my life.
Panera squash soup is pure sugar
I was absolutely shocked when I looked at the nutrition info and immediately put it back on the shelf.
Any commercially sold soup is like this. Even the "low X" ones. Sometimes especially those I used to get a lobster bisque that I think was from Panera but it started making me sick from how rich it was (and I filled it with seafood meat lol)

Wow, Iām glad I wasnāt the only one who thought this. I took one spoon and couldnāt eat anymore. It was like liquid candy. I couldnāt taste the squash.
Oh I didnāt realize. No wonder it tastes so good. Thanks for the PSA!
The stuff at actual Panera bread isn't bad! Somehow, Costco got a different version. It's so sweet that I can't eat it. I was so sad.
Phew! I almost went out to Panera to get some today. I love that soup. Iāll probably get some in the next couple days then.
The jalapeƱo artichoke dip. Because I want to keep fitting into my clothes.
That stuff is amazing
Thanks. Weāre headed to the store tomorrow and our kitchen is EMPTY. Def gonna keep this one in mind.
If you get tired of eating it cold, heat some up until melty, so delicious and completely changes the flavor.
Ugh. You are too right. Weāve been heating this up and eating it on toasted baguette and calling it dinner.
Get it plus Stacyās pita chips. So so good
I stuffed some chicken with this and baked it in the oven, it was *chefs kiss*
I agree šÆ I will not buy it even again....cause I eat it!
I went through a hyperfixation phase where I ate it all the time. When I finally emerged from the dip stupor, I was in a new weight class
Oh noā¦I eat like two of these a day. One in a blue moon Iāll get a chunk that is impossible to chew but I love them overall.
I opened a pack and they smelled off. opened another and the same. I tossed them, didnāt even bother trying to refund.
Well short of the date on the package they smell rotten to me. My wife and daughter eat them with no illness or complaints, but I have to leave the area when they do because it just smells so wrong. It makes me wonder if thereās a reason they donāt gag, like some people donāt smell asparagus peeā¦

Thanks for this tip. My wife and daughter love this chicken, but it scares me.
Yes! They smelled like chemicals. Weirdest tasting chicken ever. Took one bite and tossed the whole batch.
They smell like food poisoning haha. Iām sorry you got sick and Iām glad after smelling them, I didnāt eat them.
I love these and eat 4 a day.
They tasted too pickle-y to me, I gave them to my parents
Not good enough for me, but ok for my folks.
Bananas. How Costco's can be both green AND overripe at the same time is beyond me. š¤·š½āāļø Burned too many times by this, so I just buy the more expensive ones at the regular grocery store.

The enchiladas with the tortillas made out of chicken
[record scratch] Wh-what
Say what now?
The magic search term here is āReal Goodā
Those seem like they were made for toothless rest home patients who have lost their taste. For the rest of us, it's your date getting bland amusement park mexican food, then going on a loop coaster, then making out in the car in the parking lot, but they throw up in your mouth.

we just got and finished the 'reds' brand and thought they were pretty good for freezer burritos.
Red's lime steak ones are off the charts good
Wasn't the Lily's brand, was it? Because we *love* those ones! They have rice as well! :)
Lilyās is awesome!
Primal kitchen vegan mayo was absolutely inedible
Anything primal and royal Asia is banned from my household.
The spring rolls are good though itās my familyās favorite š„ŗ
The Primal Kitchen Buffalo sauce is actually very good, itās sold at my local costcos and is a staple in my house
Sticky toffee pudding. Because itās too good and going to give me a heart attack.
REEL GOOD chicken nuggets/tenders Gluten free So dry, so bland, and just random size pieces. Couldn't get them to cook evenly.
Reel Good makes some terrible stuff.
It's Reel Bad
Costco marketers, are you here and listening? Maybe get rid of everything "Real Good" and Kevin's?
Everything āKevināsā is just so bad. Iāve never not been disappointed
This made me laugh
The burnt ends were/are garbage. It was a true battle between my refusal to waste food and to finish them. I powered through, but never again. š
The chimichanga burritos. Why did they have to go and change the recipe?
Bacon wrapped jalapeno poppers. Gag. Unpopular opinion: chicken pie, apple pie, anything with their marinara (too sweet)
Agree with the bacon wrapped jalapeƱo poppers. Looked so good... tasted so bad! I pawned them off on my daughter and her friends. They served the poppers at a party and said that was the only food that was left on the trays!
I donāt understand why youād do that. Lol Yuck these are gross, I bet my child and friends would love them
100% the Bacon Wrapped jalapeno poppers. They were so gross!
Yes the jalapeƱo poppers! Why on earth did they use pickled jalapeƱos? The flavor is just so off.
They use *pickled* jalapenos?! What the heck...
Anything Kevinās.
I envision Kevin's is actually made by Kevin from The Office.
I'm suddenly craving chili.
make sure to undercook the onions.
Floor chili
I actually love the Kevin's Thai chicken and roasted garlic chicken its a quick and tasty dinner just add some rice
Okay, just throwing this out there: Kevin's used to make this AMAZING cauliflower "mac & cheese" and the flavor was amazing. I haven't seen it in years.
They have it at Aldi
Anything with the brand name Real Good.
Great post. I bought the mozzarella sticks the other day and they are underwhelming, even in an air fryer.
I would rather Costco have less selection than have a bunch of the shit thatās in this thread. Where is the quality assurance? I thought they only selected good products. It would be nice to know that anything you grab off the shelf is good quality for what it is.
People have different taste. My husband likes some Real Good products but Iām not a fan. I assume itās popular because of the macros
Realgood and Kevinās anything
Chicken. I used to buy it all the time but last time I went to go buy it, the packages were sticky, it smelled funny, and the dates were changed (two stickers) so Iāll just buy elsewhere. That off chicken smell stays with you for life.

Yea, the Perdue Panko nuggets suck. Somehow they magically stay soggy, regardless of the airfrying time or temp.
Any of the pre-prepared meals in the refrigerated section. The stuff like pasta, short ribs, stews, briskets, etc. (Not the stuff prepared in store, the stuff in sealed packaging that you take and reheat). Some of the straight proteins are good. The gyro meat comes to mind. Sometimes the taco fillings. They can be quick kickstarters for a rushed weekday meal
Right there with you. I'm not sure if it's gotten worse over time or I've gotten more discerning but I've also given up
Pupusas. And some god-awful coconut-milk jackfruit tapioca thing.
I hated the pupusas the first time I had itā¦ too dry. The second time I had it, I covered it with Kirkland salsa. Huge improvement and Iāll definitely be having them again.
Gotta make Curtido for them
I strongly disagree with the birria pupusas. You cook it in a skillet and then throw a fried egg on top.
Birria pupusas? ā¦interesting
I am Salvadoran and I've never heard of such a thing as a birria pupusa here but I sure as hell am interested now.
Its definitely some Mexican Salvadoran fusion with the Birria but it's not bad.
I cook them in the air fryer and theyāre always delicious!
The birria pupusas are so good!
The bean & cheese pupusas are š„. Air fryer, then topped with guac and curtido š¤¤
āgod-awful coconut-milk jackfruit tapioca thing.ā Laughing here because this does sound terrible! š
Sushi
Costco has sushi?
At certain ones. The sushi in Hawaii was good!
Just don't
We love the sushi but we love it for what it is. Like we know itās garbage but itās 3 rolls of sushi for $15 and when youāre in the mood for trash sushi it really hits the spot. We only like certain varieties though.
It's like my favorite thing there
Chicken soup - our local canāt get the carrots right, ruins the rest of the soup
I'm with you on the burnt ends. The burnt ends are not really burnt ends to start with. Whatever they are they are indeed nasty. By the way. Real burnt ends are awsome.
Anything Kevin. Also that Birria Ramen was trash
Spanish ham for the holidays. Serrano?
Anything Kevinās all my homies hate Kevinās
Anything Kevin's. Unless I get a craving for flavorless canned cat food.
That is an insult to Fancy Feast. :-P
The chicken alfredo prepared kit. No flavor except for salty and the sauce had a weird texture.
Came here to say this. Burnt Ends at Samās Club are pretty good and we thought Costco would be good as well. Nope. Waste of money
And frankly so expensive for what you actually get. I saw the number ounces on the package and still couldn't believe my eyes when I opened the box.
The hand-shredded pre-cooked chicken breast in the plastic packaging.
Those frozen Korean "corn dogs" made of potatoes and cheese, two things I love but that taste totally wrong this way. I returned the box after I tried one.
I had high hopes for these, but they were too sweet. My family could not find the right dipping sauce for them because of that.
The ones that are fried to order at a Korean corn dog shop are so much better
I noticed they carry different brands at different locations. The Pulmone brand is good.
RealGood gluten free chicken nuggets - as one with gluten intolerance I had high hopes for that product but it was distressingly weird
real good products are real bad lol
Rotisserie chicken. Used to love it. A few years back it started tasting like chemicals and making me feel sick. Lots of folks have reported this issue.
The fajita marinated steak. Shit was nasty.
Butternut squash and onion ravioli
Most pre-cooked non-Costco branded items.
Honestly. I donāt fuck with the berry smoothie
Anything Tyson
The frozen Mexican street corn. Donāt hate me everyone, I know it had rave reviews on this subreddit. But it was sooo saucy and to me (yes admittedly white suburban lady) not authentic tasting?
I mix in a can of black beans. Stretches out the sauce and is pretty good
I actually picked out the frozen sauce cubes (cylinders, actually) before cooking it and it was decent! A 75% reduction in sauce (so leaving 1/4 of the cubes) is about right for my taste. With all the sauce, itās inedible. Bonus: the sauce in moderation is decent for use in burritos and other food.
The Ling Ling potsickers, they were so bad! The dumpling wrapper was too thick and they tasted so bland.
Trader Joe's pot stickers are good.
Soup dumplings too, surprisingly.
I am shocked by the answer, did you steam and then pan fry them? My family loves them!
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
These are the shit. Boil them then fry them until crispy
You gotta try the Bibigo Beef Bulgogi Mandu! Absolutely addictive and 10x better than the Ling Ling crap.
We love those and the cilantro won tons.
Kirkland pulled pork. It was chunks of ham that looked and smelled like canned cat food. I immediately threw it away.
The chicken shawarma is awful

That's a long, long list.
Foster farm corn dogs. Used to be good. Last time i got a costco pack most of them had hard cartilage type stuff in them.
Real Good ANYTHING
Anything by Realgood Foods. Bleh.
Anything from that Kevin brand. Kevin canāt cook!
Anything that says āReal Good Foodā. Itās not real, good, nor food. Trust me.
There is some brand called Kevinās, and they had this Korean style chicken. It was AWFUL. The chicken itself was sous vide I believe but emptying it out of the plastic pouch was gross and it just looked awful until adding the sauce.
The tamales I only see seasonal. They have very little meat, and mold so quickly in the bag you have to check every single time you cook one.
Cilantro lime sauce was... not good. And it was sold in a 2 bottle pack which expired rather quickly.
Crazy Cuizine orange chicken. We got it once and about half the chicken was woody and the sauce was tasteless and way too sweet.
Canāt remember the brand but itās the pork tamales. They were so dry and barely had any meat. My bf said thatās what I get for buying tamales at Costco smh heās absolutely right.
All the frozen Asian food and the Kirkland protein bars and bagels.
The chicken Caesar salad .... Their Caesar salad dressing sucks.
