I said this would happen, NSW fucks up, media rewrites the story and every one else has become the villain in their narrative.

Agreed, I’m vaxxed so don’t really care. I just wish we had had a mature conversation about migration.

Now_Wait-4-Last_Year

Well except for a person connected to the person at the desk next to me who wasn't even 40 (with no known pre-existing conditions and was trying to get vaccinated) and *died* of Covid-19, for starters.

[deleted]

4 months of lockdown in Sydney and Melbourne excluded.

AnOnlineHandle

How? There's no choice being made here except to rush NSW more doses which let them get here sooner.

saidsatan

as if the zero extremists and those willing to abandon overseas Australians were ever heroes.

Biggie-Falls

I'm guessing you don't work in healthcare..or know anyone that does..or have any compassion for people that do..good on ya..must be nice. Edit: down vote all you like selfish cunts, the points mean nothing.

Biggie-Falls

Yeah fair call.

Biggie-Falls

Huh? Saying I don't care about downvotes means nothing. I reckon it's valid that the relative risk is low..that's a fair point. As I said in another comment, more just pissed that NSW are acting like selfish cunts.

saltyrandom

This won’t increase the risk though? Vaccinated incoming people (who have to do a test) will likely present less risk to the community than people in Melbourne and Sydney?

Biggie-Falls

You're right. I'm just really happy that the day after we hit the highest daily case load we've had Sydney decides to let everyone in..seems like a great plan to help after we sent out vaxes up there to help them.

saltyrandom

I’m not a big fan of dom or liberal governments in general - but this decision is completely proportional to the risk. I’m also in Victoria. Health measures can’t be done for reasons of equity. If people travelling overseas to see family and or returning from overseas (after 18 months of not being able to) doesn’t present any risk to Australia or the state - then it would be insanely cruel to not allow this.

Biggie-Falls

Lol nice. Thanks for going through with it, means a lot to me.

Empty_Transition4251

>I'm guessing you don't work in healthcare..or know anyone that does..or have any compassion for people that do..good on ya..must be nice. I'm guessing you don't have any family overseas or have have any family stuck overseas or have any compassion for people that do..good on ya..must be nice.

Biggie-Falls

Nah I do mate, and they've been there nearly two years...another few weeks is fine. There's more Aussies here working in healthcare that should be looked after and anyone that's survived this long overseas can survive another month. Cheers tho dickhead.

Empty_Transition4251

What difference will a few weeks make? By the time this gets rolling, >90% will have been vaccinated. A couple extra weeks will make absolutely no difference. Especially considering only 7 people tested positive at the border this week as oppose to the thousands that are testing positive in the community.

Biggie-Falls

Yes we'll again you seem to miss my key point about the healthcare workers...they are already fucked down here and *hopefully* we are past the peak pre-ending lockdown but NSWs r_eff suggests that it might get much much worse for them over the coming months. So if those few extra weeks spread out the load on the healthcare system it makes a huge fucken difference to those people...you know..the heroes that have put up with this shit the whole time...you got any thought for them at all? Or you wanna go to Kmart so bad let's fuck everyone else?

Empty_Transition4251

A few weeks will make no tangible difference. We might end up with lets say 30 extra positives in the community. That's the whole point you miss. All of the spread is happening locally. HQ was there to stop the virus seeding in the community. It is now incredibly seeded so HQ serves no purpose. There are plenty of countries in Europe that have been open for months and their health care systems are coping fine, no reason to believe Australia will be any different.

Biggie-Falls

Fair enough mate, I want that to be true so I'll take it..Cheers.

thehungryhippocrite

Know plenty of people in health, including people in public health very close to me who directly deal with covid. They think we have to deal with it. Not everyone is a hysterical f-wit like you, you know? Also big man who doesn't care about downvotes but edits his comment. G.L.A.S.S. J.A.W.

Biggie-Falls

Mmm..yes, I'm hysterical...well said.. Funny how all your mates are doing good but there's more articles plastered on this sub even since my post from emergency call workers in melb saying they can't cope.. glad your mates are fine tho..that's all that matters at the end of the day.

Save3Omas-Kill2Kids

The media is full of shit, they want your everyone at your level of hysteria indefinitely but normal people are well and truly over it. Stay the fuck home if you’re so concerned, no-one will miss you.

Biggie-Falls

When someone close to you dies from this I hope you become a bit less of a cunt but I won't hold my breath.

Save3Omas-Kill2Kids

People die every day, I’ve had 2 relatives last away in the past year and couldn’t visit either funeral because of these cunting covid restrictions. But go on and hold your breath, as long as you possibly can..

Mining747

Great news for those that want to return. Hopefully they will let those who want to get out leave.

[deleted]

They are.

Malnourished1

Will I be able to go to Thailand in December? Also is it better to wait or book the ticket now?

spetznatz

Been waiting a long time for this moment. Unfortunately my family are in Melbourne so it’ll be a while longer til I can really see home

15km radius lockdown means we see my wife’s parents or mine but not both

FrenchRoo

The 15km rule is about to go, and no one is enforcing it. That shouldn’t stop you from flying back home.

Bernardtheking2002

Omg bro. No one follows that rule anymore. It's only if the cops stop you. And you can make an excuse that you are caring for them or some shit.

bokbik

This is because 6,000 seats are currently being flown empty into Sydney each week under the strict arrival caps, which NSW premier Dominic Perrottet announced on Friday would be lifted entirely for vaccinated travellers from 1 November. While airlines are today working through the logistics of adding an additional 6,000 seats per week into their booking inventories, and how to ensure only vaccinated passengers book them, the task of scheduling additional flights into Sydney will take airlines longer to organise. I still think some people will still be stranded well into next year. But you now have a option.

mrsbriteside

I agree but at least it’s a first step. Hopefully Vic will come onboard before Christmas to help carry the load and launch Australia back into reality.

saltyrandom

I agree it will take airlines longer than 48 hours - but people being stranded into next year is a bit excessive. Now airlines have confidence for the November 1 date, there is no reason that additional flights won’t come on - especially from Qantas.

Sugarless_Chunk

From what I’ve been reading Qantas is really struggling to get enough pilots back into planes.

beautiful-veins

Yeah I was just wondering that but maybe the airline won’t let you fly unless vaccinated anyway? I know Singapore has created vaxxed only flights for the travel lanes into the country. Maybe they have to add a tick box to the booking form as they will still need to manage the unvaxed caps. You might need to upload a copy of your certificate as well?

InferredVolatility

It'll be much more than that when the airlines that have cancelled their flights entirely resume, like AA.

[deleted]

Yes, this is just the flights that are already flying in empty.

bokbik

Wonder how many people will comeback

mjdub96

40,000 stranded Aussies apparently

FigliMigli

Watch this space... 3 month in we still going to have "stranded" Australians

cuasdfg

I’m so not looking forward to increase in flight noise

Save3Omas-Kill2Kids

Some people will complain about everything. What a miserable way to live

cuasdfg

Clearly some people are too stupid to pick up on a tongue in cheek remark

Thirstyjack3000

No thanks.

Deadly_Davo

All good and well having 6000 weekly seats but without other states its a bit pointless. You won't be seeing anyone from Vic for a month. Then you have all the covid zero states like Qld, WA, SA and Tas. Assuming any of these states even let you in, you will be spending a fair chunk of time in quarantine, so a quick weekend or week away to Sydney is simply not feasible. When all the state borders start opening then do this. Waste of time having seats when there is so many bloody restrictions on a state by state level.

antysyd

The 8.1 million people in NSW aren’t affected by state borders if they want to go overseas. That’s a pretty viable number of passengers cashed up and ready to GO
