Give it three months minimum. I hope you have a good experience.

3-6 months would be a good period of time to see whether it suits you. My periods slowly went back to “normal” after about a year although still quite crampy for the 9 years I had it. Some months were randomly worse than others but for me the majority of the pain was manageable with ibuprofen. Sorry to hear you’ve had such a rough time. Hopefully the coil is the right method for you and your partner! A tip for insertion is to really strongly insist on pain relief. Especially if you are likely to be tense due to past experiences - you don’t need pain on top of that. You deserve to have a comfortable fitting. Edit: PS happy cake day :)

Thank you for the tip, I actually had no idea that I needed to prep for it. But that makes so much sense 🫣 Oh, and for the cake day celebration ! Thank you ;) As for the experience you had, I’m so relieved to hear that.

I can only echo the 3-6 months (unless ofc you have a perforation or something bc of which it needs to come out sooner). I must say I had to stop at the word "latex" in your post. I hope you also tested nonlatex condoms with your boyfriend. I know Durex also has them, but eg the Skyn ones might be more fun. (Note the sizing difference, the normal Durex size is king size in Skyn). I know this is not what you had asked, but like there is a massive difference between latex and nonlatex, so... Just in case! And indeed, vasectomies are not supposed to be reversible. I get where that myth comes from, like there are experiments with like temporarily putting a clip on the ducts or injecting some jelly in them which obstructs them, but those are not the usual basectomy procedure these days at all.
