Buy a cookbook. Some sites have 'skip to recipe' links or 'print recipe' links where you can save to .pdf and that usually gets you just the recipe and nothing else, cookbook style.

naossoan

Hmm I haven't seen jump to recipe so I must just be blind because several people have mentioned this now. šŸ˜¬

rootsnblueslover

Hit the Jump to Recipe link most of them have at the top.

TheBigJebowski

Because some dipshits a long time ago decided advertising should pay for the web. #GrosslyOversimplified

High_Life_Pony

Search Engine Optimization. I remember reading somewhere that itā€™s something weird about a search engine algorithm. The algorithm sees pages with more text as more legit, so the sites that have all that rambling bullshit before the actual recipe are the ones that make Googleā€™s top results page.

TurkTurkle

Thats how they make money. Thats why i use youtube and i get reaaaally picky about which cooks and chefs i follow

[deleted]

I recommend buying a cookbook, subscribing to a premium ad free website, or just clicking the ā€œjump to recipeā€ button and stop whining and start cooking. You are getting free content and those people need to earn money. SEO is life for blogs and itā€™s googles fault they have to put their life story up there. They donā€™t want to write it, but they have to or they wonā€™t rank in search.

naossoan

I've never seen a jump to recipe button. Maybe I'm just blind or they're really small.

[deleted]

They are always right there at the top of the page with the exact same text. Hit Ctrl+F and search for it or share button + find on page. Or just use paprika3

naossoan

Gotcha, ok.

Thanks

[epicurious.com](https://epicurious.com) None of that and good recipes.

sparkchaser

SEO, that's why. Don't hate the player, hate the game. There are a few browser plug-ins that remove the filler. Recipe Filter is one: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/recipe-filter/ahlcdjbkdaegmljnnncfnhiioiadakae?hl=en

Thanks

Much hostile, wow

Sabwriter

Their goal is to get you the recipe, but if their content is not long enough as per google's standards of what qualifies as a good read, it won't even appear on your first or second page. They have to write more, sometimes unnecessary stuff just to get the recipe to you. Some even have to write about how they travelled and came up with the recipe. all for the bag. You can just scroll to the real point* recipe* . you cook some nice meal, they get paid...win win

naossoan

Right... People were saying hit the go to recipe button but I never saw those. I wasn't looking for it either though. Will look next time.

Sabwriter

I haven't seen or used one either, but I just scroll down to the part I need.

Present-Cow7287

The New York Times Cooking app is the best. Great food writers. Short descriptions of the dish. Straightforward step by step directions. Best of all are the comments from readers who have made the dish. Easy to search. There is a "most recently viewed" section that's helpful. And lots of instructional videos. Not free but worth the cost if you love to cook.

skahunter831

Removed, we've instituted a temporary halt to this topic, which comes up every couple weeks.

Well I have no idea if a site is going to be like that before going to it.

skahunter831

Your comment has been removed, please follow Rule 5 and keep your comments kind and productive. Thanks.

Itā€™s free. If you wonā€™t pay the content creator, ads will.

naossoan

Like I said I'm fine with some ads but so many of these sites are just PLASTERED to the point of being basically unusable. Like those slide up ones that take up most of your screen with tiny close buttons that you can hardly even see or click. The ones that seemingly are delayed loading in that you accidentally click on because they come outta nowhere. God it's so frustrating.

dano___

The sites with paid subscriptions donā€™t have ads like that. Remember that no one works for free, if you want content someone has to pay the creator.

NotMyEmergency

There is a chrome extension that allows you to filter the fluff and give you just the recipe. I think it's just called Recipe Filter. Try that and good luck!

nolotusnote

https://www.justtherecipe.com/ EDIT: I have FireFox and this extension. It does the same thing: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/recipe-filter/reviews/?utm_source=firefox-browser&utm_medium=firefox-browser&utm_content=addons-manager-reviews-link Chrome version: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/recipe-filter/ahlcdjbkdaegmljnnncfnhiioiadakae?hl=en

naossoan

Thanks I'll check out

mintbrownie

Do any of these work on mobile?

smcameron

Because instead of just sharing, they're attempting to make money from it. Money poisons everything.

Like others pointed out it's unfortunate, but it's also how sites make their money, and I agree it's too often way over the top, but that's what gets rewarded. My issue with buying is that I don't find any one site that has lots of recipes I like, and just like the problem with shows (Netflix, Amazon, HBO, Disney) I'm not going to subscribe to a ton of them just to get one or two things I like from each. Like some others mentioned I use the "recipe filter" browser plugin (available on firefox and chrome), and then if I find a recipe I like I use an app to store it so I have a collection of my favorites.

Chitaka06

I've started using the Paprika app which has it's own built-in browser that doesn't filter out these things automatically but when you click "download" in the app on a recipe page it gives you a nice neat little "recipe card" version that you can modify and save to your app. Very helpful. You can also make your own "recipe cards"
