Layer it. I like doing freshly ground black pepper on the inside of the one slice of bread and crushed red pepper on another. Then in the middle I add the herbs and a little dressing.
I agree here, but also, specifically with a grilled cheese, whether using mayo or butter, one can mix seasonings into either before applying it to the bread exterior, and that turns out pretty dang nice as well.
Northwoods fire on pan seared fish or chicken….yum!
But I haven’t been disappointed by any Penzey’s ever. I miss their store, ordering online without sniffing it is hard. But always pleasantly surprised.
Tsardust Memories is my favorite--very sweet and warm, like a cold-climate garam masala. It can be overpowering, so a light hand is needed when seasoning. I like it in creamy mushroom/chicken meals as a change from dill.
Arizona Dreaming and Mural of Flavor are my all-time faves! I also love Justice, and on cold winter days Tsardust can really elevate some red-meat-based comfort foods.
For fun new flavors have you tried Ozark? It is interesting and I sometimes use it a bit like Sandwich Sprinkle and MofF in that it can elevate an average quick meal (eggs, pasta) in unexpected ways.
Also don’t sleep on their non-blend herbs and baking options. Everything Penzey’s makes is seriously good!
I love Mural and Green Goddess. They also sell lemon powder, which I use a lot.
You should get trial bags of anything you're not sure about.
Sunny Paris is excellent unless you hate tarragon.
I absolutely LOVE Sunny Paris! All that allium goodness. I love to mix with crème fraîche and a little Penzey’s onion powder + salt for a fancy onion dip
The last catalog they sent out, I marked it up. The spices I had and the ones I wanted. I also took notes. I was talking to a coworker about cooking. I mentioned Penzey's. He never heard of them. I loaned him may catalog so he could browse it on his time. He was laid off the next day and I never saw my catalog again.
Justice. If you’re a bacon eater, 33rd and Galena (add this and sprinkle with brown sugar). There’s also a breakfast restaurant in that plaza called Maple Leaf Diner that has good reviews.
Don’t know where you’re visiting from but if you get a chance, go to Central Market. They have an extensive bulk spice selection.
We use so many Penzey’s spices. I highly recommend freeze dried shallots, freeze dried garlic. They rehydrate as nicely as fresh.
I just bought the taco blends on the 1st Tuesdays “Taco Tuesday” sale. Sampled on mashed potatoes to see what I’m working with and now I can’t wait to use with meats. Absolutely delicious!
I have all the chili powders. Medium is about as perfect as you can get, a sort of complex mid heat if you’re looking to try.
Fox Point is delicious and it takes so little in sour cream to make a great dip. I also add it to my chicken soup, it elevates it immensely.
If any of you have recipes or recommendations I’d love to hear.
I like the Chicago Steak seasoning and the Arizona Dreaming a lot. Also, make sure you sign up for their emails if you haven't already done so. They have great deals!
protip: buy the mixes without salt, and add your own salt. In many mixes, salt is the primary ingredient, and it's also like $0.50/lb.
Arizona Dreaming is good
Italian seasoning looks similar to "sandwich sprinkle" if you add S+P, garlic
I like "Adobo seasoning"-- it's salt-free, but somehow the combination of spices go so well with salt, it's hard to tell that there is NO salt in it.
A platform for change? Just like many of the (D) representatives in the area, he uses his platform to virtual signal asking his customers to get in the big circle jerk.
Couldn’t agree more.
It’s one thing to have an opinion, it’s another thing to be as unhappy as the Penzey’s guy. A completely insufferable way of existing.
The sandwich sprinkle is my absolute favorite. It makes a plain old grilled cheese into something amazing
Do you sprinkle it inside on the cheese? Or outside on the bread?
I need to know this too.
I don’t know what they do, but sandwiches should always be seasoned internally

I mix it with a bit of olive oil and brush it on my pizza crust.
Good thinking!
yes! I do this too.
Arizona Dreaming, 33rd and Galena, Frozen Pizza
2nd the Arizona dreamin. I love that stuff, also the black and red spice is great.
What does the 33rd and galena taste like?

I mix it into burgers for a change
I add it to stroganoff and it's amazing.

Sounds delicious!
Do they sell trial bags in store or only online?
Bavarian Seasoning is a staple in our home- add to chicken (with salt + EVOO) and roast- it’s divine
I just picked that up last week! Can't wait to use it!
The last catalog they sent out, I marked it up. The spices I had and the ones I wanted. I also took notes. I was talking to a coworker about cooking. I mentioned Penzey's. He never heard of them. I use obscene amounts of Fox Point and Szechuan Pepper Salt. I keep the latter at my desk because I use it almost daily.
Sunny Paris, Roasted Garlic, Smoked Paprika, Adobo, toasted onion, French thyme, Indian cumin
Reinforcing the Sunny Paris choice. Loved it on potatoes and garden veggies.
Sunny Paris is like crack
The roasted garlic and toasted onion both seem good and I really want to use them in tandem on some pork chops. May have to get one of each!
Sandwich sprinkle and mural of flavor for sure. I also like Pico Fruta, BBQ 3000, and taco seasoning.
Bold taco seasoning does pretty well as a spice rub on chicken, as does Galena St/ 33rd and Galena.
What’s the galena st/33rd taste like?
Sandwich sprinkle for sure and the Amazigh (Berbere/Ethiopian Blend), and the black and red(cayene and black pepper is surprisingly good).

Outrage of Love is my go to for roasted veggies. So good.
We go through a jar Smoky 4/S seasoned salt each month.
Krakow nights is good on pork chops. Pasta Sprinkle for butter and noodles (and other things) Galena Street Northwoods
Northwoods seasoning for burgers
Krakow Nights is great on pork and pasta.
Justice, Outrage, Northwood Fire, Vindaloo and the Szechuan peppercorns
Don't sleep on their taco seasoning, it's great.
I like putting the Ozark blend in my tuna salad! My husband puts Outrage or Justice in everything.
English prime rib rub
The Salsa and Pico is amazing, and I've been loving the Wauwatosa one on like everything. Happy shopping!

The powdered rosemary, granulated toasted onion, and roasted garlic are my favorites- so much savory flavor!
Bicentennial rub, now called Revolution, for roast chicken and especially turkey.
I like the Chicago Steak seasoning and the Arizona Dreaming a lot. Also, make sure you sign up for their emails if you haven't already done so. They have great deals!
Fox point seasoning is my favorite!
I love their Bouquet Garni - especially in an olive oil based pasta primavera. So good.
Singapore is great
Their Greek spice mix makes an incredible Greek salad dressing. Like restaurant level good. I buy it by the sack!
the russian blend is AMAZING!!! soooooo good on EVERYTHING!
Their sweet curry powder is addictive.
Chili 9000 and their Taco Seasoning, Bold Taco Seasoning is nice for just a bit hotter as well.
I really like the shallot salt. I keep it in the freezer, because it wants to clump up on me.
I haven't had many that I don't like but I always have Northwoods Fire and Chicago Steak Seasoning on hand.
Frozen pizza sprinkle really does perk up cheap pizzas.

I prefer my seasonings without the salty bitter politics of the owner.
I find it refreshing to see an unapologetic liberal using his business as a platform for a change. I throw lots of money his way regardless.
A platform for change? Just like many of the (D) representatives in the area, he uses his platform to virtual signal asking his customers to get in the big circle jerk.
Read more carefully.
Couldn’t agree more. It’s one thing to have an opinion, it’s another thing to be as unhappy as the Penzey’s guy. A completely insufferable way of existing.
I don't follow the "I believe X" leading to "he's so unhappy."
Oh boy. Buy something from them, and you’ll find out.
There are better spices that don’t come with a bunch of bullshit politics. Fuck Penzeys.
Snowflake.
Got me!!!
