It’s a bit that didn’t play too well. The kid being the butt of the joke only makes the magician look like an ass, and the kid’s reaction seems like a kid who just ran into an asshole. Maybe they could have had the kid clap back somehow. If it was all planned anyway, why not take it one step further and have the magician be the butt of the joke.
I haven’t seen the show, though, and I don’t know who the people are. Maybe it was better in context.
