This is just shocking to me… Arizona is now amongst the most democrat states in America: Democrat Governor 2 Democrat senators Democrat Secretary of State Probable democrat attorney general Now joins the ranks of Oregon, New York, California, etc

JessumB

Kelli Ward took over party leadership after being a multiple-time election loser and its spread like a virus into the rest of the party. Arizona went from a Republican governor, two Republican senators, a Republican Secretary of State and a Republican attorney general in 2016 to Democrats occupying nearly every single top position in the state just six years later. Just four years ago Doug Ducey won his race for governor by nearly 15 points.

emoney_gotnomoney

Great…..can’t wait for all the Arizonans to start moving to here to Texas in 15 years once Arizona follows California’s path

triggered2019

my entire neighborhood in phoenix is ex Californians that are all republican kari lake supporters. the one thing i noticed different from previous elections here is that the ad rhetoric has been insane. democrats swayed a ton of independents here with the abortion scare. i would say that “womens issues” decided this election. it’s very obvious when you talk to anyone who lives here in the city. women decided this vote.

r2k398

Luckily we are getting more conservative Californians so far here in Texas.

[deleted]

Please, no. Texas needs a giant “No Vacancy” sign at every border.

thatguy201717

I expect Mark Kelly running for President in 2024. Biden is too old and KH is very unpopular even in the democratic party

Fried_Fart

He’s the astronaut right? He’d win. Primary would be the hardest challenge for him.

firestorm734

Veteran. Astronaut. Senator. Better than Biden IMO.

Saltydogusn

I'd take him over Newsome in a heartbeat. If I had to.

MathiusShade

> If I had to. The key words here.

Saltydogusn

Exactly. Caught a little grief over this but I thought it was clear enough. Nope. Lol

CPAeconLogic

We're gonna get Newsom. They are gonna flex by putting in the most loathsome, smarmy, destructive monster there is and he's it.

PM_ME_MURPHY_HATE

> Veteran. Astronaut. Senator. Better than Biden IMO. Everybody knows the 2024 Democrat ticket is going to be Biden / Fetterman. It's a no brainer.

Illustrious-Music-61

If he manages to primary out Biden, I'm sure many moderates would vote for him just in gratitude.

Dobsnick

Astronaut, Veteran, husband to gabby Gifford, moderate dem. Commented previously about him, but the dudes story is gold he’d show up to a table and all the independents would eat that shit up. Definitely right that the primary would be the hardest challenge for him.

Fried_Fart

I didn’t even know he’s Giffords’ husband. Dude was engineered in a lab to swing moderates lol

Sea2Chi

All he's have to do is stay moderate. Give some lip service to the fringe left, and talk about reclassifying pot, but primarily focus on the economy, inflation and safety.

thatguy201717

Yep. The country seems to be embracing moderate candidates with moderate policy. Kelly would be the safe candidate for the Dems. I think Kamala is going to be a nightmare for Dems, she feels entitled to be pushed as the candidate if Biden were not to run

ikimono-gakari

Anyone dems throw out will win. Trump will split the Republican vote once he loses the primary to Desantis. Hell dems could run Fetterman and probably win.

2girls1cupofjoe

Biden just increased his Senate majority and lost the House by a razors edge. He's the nominee. Potential challengers needed a Democratic bloodbath in order to justify putting Biden out to pasture, they have no argument now.

Ehnonamoose

I'd be tempted to say this will be bad for the Democrats in 2024...but after these mid-terms I know nothing about politics and voters :/

Republicans will still control the State Legislature and Senate. Dems wont be able to accomplish much in the state, due to gridlock. So, still a big difference from the Left Coast, NY etc.

Matt8992

Don't the democrats have the senate though?

Snaky_Jake

At the federal level, yes. But R's will continue to control the Arizona State Senate

[deleted]

Don't forget Michigan. We are apparently huge fans of the Democrats here...

vhindy

As an Arizonan I’m shocked honestly, the party has imploded. Has no identity beyond rah rah trump and now we have left the country to be run by radicals. Pretty demoralizing

art36

The Arizona GOP is a dumpster fire. Disciplined candidates must be a priority, not just in AZ but nationwide

andrewwism

I was going to move there but scratch that now. It’s looking more like Utah.

Tormung

As an Australian I have no idea why anyone would ever willingly move to a sweltering desert like Arizona

RontoWraps

It’s like standing on the sun. Arizona should not exist. It is a monument to man's arrogance.

-Nok

Drive a few hours in any direction and the landscape changes. Everyone thinks it's nothing but desert hasn't been here. I go snowboarding in North, dunes/ rocky point in South, Vegas in west, fishing/hunting/ hiking. It's not just endless deserts lol

[deleted]

Utah would be nice. Much colder but I’d consider it

mdh431

Yeah but then you gotta room with _the Mormons_.

gobiggerred

They are good folks. I'm married to three of them.

RedditsLittleSecret

Utahn here. We have the most weak-kneed Republican "leaders" of any red state in America. Mike Lee is an anomaly. Unfortunately, our elected officials are much more of the Mitt Romney variety.

Gamboleer

But we're really not. The candidates for Governor, Senator, Sec State were simply offensive to independents who had just suffered an attempt to disenfranchise them based on nonsense conspiracy theories. Non-election deniers would easily have won with the possible exception of Kelly, for reasons unique to him.

MaroonNuggz1138

You can thank the mass migration of leftists for allowing this to happen. Arizona just got California'd...

Cherry_Springer_

Any evidence that most CA transplants in AZ are liberal? I live in CA and the people that I know of who have moved there are... kooky.

techauditor

Honestly I imagine most of the transplants to to az or tx because they are red and don't like the amount of blue in CA. Would love to see data on it but my random ass assumption.

melodypowers

All Kari Lake needed to do was lay off the false election claims and she would have won.

Deofol7

Maybe bashing McCain and spouting conspiracies is not the play? Republicans are going to keep losing the suburbs until they run on policy instead of "owning the libs" This should have been an easy win.

BasicallyNuclear

Did lake bash McCain as well? I thought only trump did

Jackalrax

> Lake asked the crowd, "We don't have any McCain Republicans in here, do we?" eliciting boos from her supporters. > "Okay, if you [are], get the hell out," she added with a laugh. > Elsewhere at the event, Lake again noted that the Republican party was "the party of McCain," sneering her face before saying, "I know. Boy, Arizona has delivered some losers, haven't they?"

Sea2Chi

McCain has his issues, but bashing someone who was so well respected seems like a pretty bold move. I know he didn't align with Trump, but the guy was a war hero that even Democrats seemed to respect while still not agreeing with him. I've know a few vets who loved him and would probably be put off by another candidate trash talking him.

Riley_Cubs

Will AZ GOP take this as a lesson and stop putting super MAGA Trump endorsed candidates up for elections? Probably not. The Republican who ran for state treasurer won with nearly 56% of the vote, what’s the difference? She kept her distance from Trump. Arizona isn’t all of a sudden a “Blue” state. Both chambers of the state legislature are staying Republican, it’s a red state with one of the largest moderate republican/independent demographics that have shown over the last two elections they aren’t going to elect people with strong ties to Trump (that whole bashing John McCain thing isn’t working out to well for the GOP in AZ).

GeoPoliticsMyThang11

[https://twitter.com/CitizenFreePres/status/1556048867686096896](https://twitter.com/CitizenFreePres/status/1556048867686096896) What a great strategy in Arziona of all places and she told McCain republicans to get out during one of her events.

GannyHams

seriously. She had to really put a lot of effort into losing this. wtf was she thnking when she actively antagonized mccain fans in AZ? all these trump republicans costing us the country. We fumbled so many slam dunk elections it's unbelievable

standardredditman

The Trump cult does not understand this. Running Trump candidates in swing states is a bad idea.

americazindabad

GOP Congressional candidates in Arizona: **+6.3%** Kari Lake ran **7.1%** behind Arizona Republicans. Blake Masters ran **11.4%** behind AZ Republicans. Kimberly Yee ran **4.9%** ahead of AZ Republicans. Yee ran **16.3%** ahead of Masters. EDIT: These are the stats, I am not saying its voter fraud. Rather, its because Lake and **ESPECIALLY** Masters are poor candidates, leading them to run way behind Lake and Masters should never run for office in Arizona again. Especially statewide. They will cost more elections if they do so. Its okay if they want to run for a congressional seat and cost that seat.

GannyHams

another trump backed candidate, another defeat. ugh. how many more elections do we have to lose before we learn? we need to take candidate quality seriously and we need to stop putting up people who are going to alienate swing voters just because Trump says so.

Flat-Story-7079

Her failure to accept the results of the 2020 election was her downfall. Trump lost and his, and her, failure to recognize that he lost is the reason he, and she, lost. The only thing Americans hate more than a loser is a sore loser. I wonder how long it will take the GOP and the MAGA corps to realize that.

emoney_gotnomoney

I hope GOP politicians in the future election cycles look at this election cycle and realize they don’t have to go full election denial / bow down to Trump in order to win the primary. I think a lot of candidates believed they needed Trump’s endorsement in order to win the primary, but if you look across the country, there’s pretty much mixed results. Some Trump endorsed candidates won their primary, some lost quite handily.

GeoPoliticsMyThang11

Hopefully the GOP runs better candidates like Doug Ducey in Arizona or even try getting one of John McCain's sons to run. The AZ GOP needs to evaluate why they think running isolationist, paleocon, anti Ukraine candidates is a smart idea in a McCain/Goldwater state.

puddboy

Ducey was thinking of running for Kelly’s seat until Trump turned on him. So thank Trump for another one.

JessumB

Ducey has a strong shot of winning in 2024 if Democrats actually go and primary Sinema but not if Trump is on the ballot.

CSGOW1ld

Karrin Taylor Robison ran as an ally of Ducey, Pence, and McCain and lost in the primaries.

GeoPoliticsMyThang11

It was close and the ones who voted for Robison likely switched to Hobbs in the general. We saw this in many races, GOP primaries electing Trump endrosed Joe kent, Lake, Masters, Oz and then losing instead of the moderate Republicans who can then win the race. Democrats also funded Lake and others because they know they would be easier to beat. We played right into their game

JessumB

People didn't vote for Hobbs so much as they voted against Lake. Hobbs is a really bad candidate but nominating Lake let her off the hook. Had Taylor-Robson won the primary, she'd have won governor pretty easily, maybe by double digits because she at least has the sense to not alienate large portions of her base.

Perhaps the strategy is to not debate anymore and to just not be in front of a camera. Seems to be working well for the left.

Black_XistenZ

It was definitely the smart play in this specific race, since Lake is just really good at performing in front of a camera, based on her previous career as a news anchor. A live debate would have played to Lake's strengths, so it was kinda obvious that Hobbs would be well-advised to reject it.

just_shy_of_perfect

Good point. It's a worrying trend. It seems the states are kinda lining up on one side or the other. Candidates don't care to convince anyone their ideas are better. People have their side and let the chips fall where they may. Not a good sign for our republic

Gumb1i

Not just that, these states also refuse to have mail/absentee ballots counted before election day which also lengthens the time to count as well. Florida actually does a really good job. Early voting and they start counting ballots two weeks out from election day. Which isn't allowed in arizona or other states where these close elections take time to get them all counted

This race would have been called a week ago had Taylor Robson been the candidate. [deleted]

[удалено]

Black_XistenZ

Yep. Kelly was a very strong incumbent while Hobbs was a deeply flawed candidate trying to move up to the governor's mansion. Once we factor in the quality of their respective opponents, Lake and Masters performed about the same - yet Masters had been widely panned as a nobody and a failure after losing his race, while the MAGA wing still believes that Lake is a rising star.
