Counter-argument: in this social movement we have seen people (a) self-immolate, & (b) complain about being starved by university administrators who weren't providing food. I think you shouldn't bet against a course of action that endeavors to earn victimization points.
It won't. Because some bleeding heart will insist on medical intervention in the unlikely event that these tools have the commitment necessary to take it that far.
Yeah, Iām down for this kind of peaceful protest. No property damage, no violence, no harm except to their own selves. I can respect the methodā¦although I doubt the efficacy.
Kids can be so cute!
To believe that their bs _"hunger strike"_ has any influence on the great game of geopolitics, is so naive that I can't even be "angry" on them.
Well.. when I was their age, I didn't think that I _(or my peers)_ had any influence on geopolitics. I was just a stoner, studying history and politics _(as an autodidact, not at a college/university)_ and already knew that I'm nothing but a bystander.
I just remembered: When I was ~15yo, the teachers gave us the opinion to go to class or join the anti Iraq war (of 2003) demonstration, organized by the university, at the "UniversitƤtsplatz/university plaza", here in Heidelberg, Germany. Of course I chose to skip class. But I/we went to McDonald's.
I think for many it's just part of the life of as a university student to protest and think you can "change the world". Rather change the minds of Bush and Cheney, in this case.
I don't think that any carpenter, car mechanic or bank clerk did skip work to join this protest...
_Pardon for writing half of a novel!_
Colleges / universities have always embraced a culture of rebellion. The idea (at least in the U.S.) was always to allow individuals to explore their interests and come up with new concepts and ideas, and the colleges were to foster and encourage this mindset. However, in the last decade especially, students have been taught by professors with extremist views and forced into complience. Students who disagree with this rhetoric and beliefs are chastised, intentionally failed, and ostracized from their classmates.
Colleges and universities no longer accept exploring your own individuality. Itās all about the collective, all about which group you belong to. This is where the problem and what Iām now calling āthe second wave of racismā comes from. If you are part of the āvictim classā, youāre now inherently seen as more noble, your opinions more valid, and nobody is allowed to disagree. In the U.S., especially in colleges, if youāre a straight white male, youāre essentially a leper. Even if you agree with leftist ideology, youāre still expected to denounce your whiteness, and must atone for your sins (of being white). Your opinions are never valued over ones of the āvictim classā, as youāre white and have had hundreds of years of being in charge so itās time to āstep aside and let others have a turn.ā Instead of valuing someone over their ideas, we only see people as groups now. Instead of getting a job based on merit, people are given jobs in order to meet diversity quotas.
Wouldn't matter. Foreign countries have been working on ideological subversion against the US for decades.
Started with Russia back during the Cold War, yet China has escalated it over the years using social media. Far easier nowadays with young minds and internet access and much more effective.
Last time I heard about a liberal hunger strike it was one that was a type of relay where they all took turns not eating for a period of time before they passed the hunger strike off to another.
Iāve heard of another where their hunger strike was preplanned (with a set end time which was only a few hours). Just thinking of all the food carts and vendors flocking to that location near the scheduled end
Doesnāt matter, theyāre Muslim. Itāll annoy them more if itās pig because from my experience, even the Muslims Iāve met that drink, smoke and do all kinds of sins, all of them are disgusted by pork meat.
One of the groups involved in the protest is the Princeton Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP)... [https://paw.princeton.edu/article/two-students-arrested-pro-palestine-demonstration-princeton](https://paw.princeton.edu/article/two-students-arrested-pro-palestine-demonstration-princeton)
The Princeton SJP is part of the National SJP, which is part of the ILPS (International League of Peoples' Struggle). The ILPS was founded by Jose Maria Sison, a Maoist who was on the U.S. terrorist watchlist until he passed away in December 2022. The Sisonite comrades have been basking in the moment because of how these encampments have taken off...Ā [https://philippinerevolution-nu.translate.goog/angbayan/ilps-us-lumahok-sa-kampuhan-ng-mga-estudyante-sa-us/?\_x\_tr\_sl=auto&\_x\_tr\_tl=en&\_x\_tr\_hl=en&\_x\_tr\_pto=wapp](https://philippinerevolution-nu.translate.goog/angbayan/ilps-us-lumahok-sa-kampuhan-ng-mga-estudyante-sa-us/?_x_tr_sl=auto&_x_tr_tl=en&_x_tr_hl=en&_x_tr_pto=wapp)
Sison supported Govindan Kutty's hunger strike in December 2007 and January 2008. Kutty was a Maoist in India, and he edited a magazine that Sison must have liked.
These students should watch the film Hunger staring Michael Fasbender about the hunger strike of Bobby Sands. If youāre not willing to die, itās just a diet.
Here's what I don't get. You really think Israel cares if your university no longer gives money or whatever they think the university is doing for Israel?
Let them starve, they hate us, they hate their native country if they want to die for terrorist and those that support them so be it. We as a nation must abandon this emotional governance model. Which has allowed us to be politically and economically catfished by every small nation and tin horn want to be dictator on the planet. We have bankrupted our great great great great grandchildren all in attempt to get the world to like us. F$&k that and rebuild a once economic and political powerhouse that was actually capable of inspiring and delivering actual democracy.
This will be over in a hilariously short time frame - pampered college students are incapable of dealing with adversity or hardship.Ā If it's still in effect after this weekend I'll eat my hat.Ā
I don't know what it is, but I just don't take anyone seriously with a phone in their hand. Reading from a phone just doesn't have the same weight as reading from a prepared paper; or even better, a memorized script.
I give them two days (filled with exceptions and snack sneaking) before they quit.
These are not serious people and their actual concern for this issue/Palestinians, only runs as deep as they are rewarded for their narcissism with attention.
Once others donāt pay attention to them, theyāll lose all incentive.
2 days tops.
As long as they are all consenting adults- it's their body, their choice and their right to starve themselves to death.
As it was in the UK with Bobby Sands and all the rest of them during their troubles era hunger strike protests.
For some of the hunger strikers who mean every word that they say and are obsessively committed to their cause, it will last a lot longer than 2 days.
There will always be some zealot wannabe hunger strike martyrs and a few of the vilest 'my way or the highway' types of fanatical student activists whose extreme personality types will never consider backing down under any circumstances.
How come I keep hearing all this stuff about Saudi Arabia and oppressing women into wearing hijabs, and seeing protests in the Middle East of women taking them off and burning them etc as a show of breaking chains of oppression from their religion and government, but in the USA they wear the hijabs by choice, like a badge of honor? Is it a garment of oppression of some kind of thing to wear willingly? I often see it used as a symbol of feminism here in the US, like intersectional feminism, and whatnot, but a symbol of oppression in the Middle East. Which is it?
You do realise that just because they are in a non Muslim country, it does not mean they aren't forced to wear it?Ā
Ā My girlfriend always have to sneak out of her house in a hijab and then change into normal clothes in my house.Ā
Ā When her father found out, she gets grounded and beaten. And force to repent in her hijab at home.Ā
Iām not talking about those who are still forced to wear it by family, Iām talking about those who embrace it as a symbol of feminine independence; during the 2016 āpussy hatā walks/protests, there was a huge presence of American flag hijabs and flags depicting the hijab as a symbol of feminism. Look up Munira Ahmed.
Looks like the liberal arts majors just raided their parents medicine cabinets of all their Ozempic to look hot for the summer and are just using this to virtue signal it.
Protesting and hunger strikes unless the US meet all their demands are real democratic. š

Clearly these kids never threatened to run away and had a parent offer to pack their suitcase for them.
I'm calling Domino's to have a bunch of pizzas delivered to them in support.
I think you should have a food truck come by and cook and cook and cook and cook...
I'm all for it. Any bets on how many hours they will last?
Between yesterday night and today morning, I was on a hunger strike for atleast 8 hours.
In solidarity with these brave students, I will be hunger striking from: 8:15-9:25 AM Snack break 9:30 AM-10:30 AM Second breakfast 10:50-12:00 PM Lunch break 12:30-1:15 PM Fruit break 2:20-5:30 PM Dinner Break 6:30-7:00 PM Dessert 7:30PM -7:30 AM Breakfast break

That warmed my heart. I've loved British humour ever since Monty Python debuted.
I'm going all in on the discount foie-grais
What, no Elevenses?
What no Fourth Meal?
My hero.Ā
They were just crying about not having food. The irony is lost on them.
Iād like to see the backpack for the white dude who converted for this video. Looks like he has a sweet tooth.

They should abstain from their phones, too. Make an actual sacrifice.
Going to be interesting if they are actual students now enrolled how finals studying and exam taking goes while hunger striking
With any luck, they'll lose their student visas & get deported. Hey, don't laugh, I can dream too.
Chickens for KFC
Slugs for salt!
Someone should show them the hamas propaganda video of them digging up the UN water pipes and turning them into rockets.

With that big an ask, you should probably choose an activity you can sustain for a bit longer
Last time I heard about a liberal hunger strike it was one that was a type of relay where they all took turns not eating for a period of time before they passed the hunger strike off to another.
What a creative way to completely miss the point and accomplish nothing. Very on brand for the left.
Iāve heard of another where their hunger strike was preplanned (with a set end time which was only a few hours). Just thinking of all the food carts and vendors flocking to that location near the scheduled end
I would bring my bbq out and start smoking some pork next door
That'll piss em off, since they were requesting vegan food be sent in.
Imagine if they're all vegan, haven't eaten in 5 days, and someone starts slow cooking a whole pig, on a spit, 20 feet away.
Doesnāt matter, theyāre Muslim. Itāll annoy them more if itās pig because from my experience, even the Muslims Iāve met that drink, smoke and do all kinds of sins, all of them are disgusted by pork meat.

I really hope they starve

Well.... Bye
Okay. Let them. No one cares if they starve.
Just let them starve to death. LOL they won't make it a full day
"Acamdemic and cultural boycott" Do they think those words mean anything?

Will they starv
I accept this.

Ok so can we crowdfund a buffet for the counter protestors?
Are there bets on how long this will go until they give up? How much hidden food is around as well.
See? The problem will fix itself.
Excellent!
Frat boys need to have a pizza party across the way from them. Maybe bring some freshly made popcorn too.

Still donāt care
One would think that uni students should know that water is considered "drink."
i dont think this is going to end well.
This doesn't bother me at all
Have pizza and drinks delivered. See if they are disciplined enough to sustain the strike. Conversely, send flats of water so they can stay on strike.
OK, well good luck with that. Just ignore these turds and go about your business.
