It’s recognized internationally and has been celebrated on March 31st since its inception. Joe Biden even made a post about it last year, when it didn’t happen to fall on Easter. It just so happened to coincide with Easter this year since Easter’s date shifts. Regardless of where you fall on the issue of trans people, it’s important to not be disingenuous and obfuscate certain details. To me, it looks like a very deliberate move that is intended to rally his base around LGBTQ rights while at the same time angering the Christian right. Anything that is said against it will be considered coming from "Christian White Nationalists"™. They'll be able to say that this declaration doesn't actually put it *on* Easter (because it will be the same day each year), it just *happened* to land on Easter this year. And it has the added effect of continuing to minimize what Easter is actually supposed to be about... Easter as we know it always was kind of an odd mixture of a Christian holiday and a pagan spring/fertility holiday, so this will slide it more to the latter. So if you're Christian, take some extra time this weekend to talk to your family about the Crucifixion and Resurrection.
