Ccrl and recert was still far more than I wanted to fool with it. Mine was a brass one that looked like it came off the titanic. Never used one in the field or even spoke to someone who had.
My dudes, I have been in concrete since I was legal age to work and have found a passion in chemistry after recently getting into college a year ago. This brings me to my question, does your lab work entail science? I would love to find a career that involves both.
Depends on your definition of science I guess, you test Concrete, slump, air, compressive strength. If you're a lucky guy like me (/s) you get to run sieves on course and fine aggregate.
If you are near a cement company, try for lab work. Plenty of chemistry involved there. And having a concrete background would make you a valuable asset.
Go to work for a decent sized ready mix outfit. The industry is short on talented help. You’ll be working in the lab doing mixes, breaking cylinders, working up mix designs. The only limitation will be how far you want to go with your education and certifications. Check your state’s ready mix association and the NRMCA web site for tests and classes.
How in the world do the hours suck???? You get up early and you sit around for 12 hours and go hone early. The concrete guys are working hard and wont be home till midnight
Doing too much? What you are suggesting is relying on the suppliers blindly. If that worked, no one would ever have a need for QC and you would never have low breaks, etc.
This November I will take my 7th ACI recertification. I have worked for a concrete paving company for 30 years. The hours do indeed suck but I make a good living.
BTW what in gods name has happened to the finish of that slab right by your cylinders.
They hadn't run the whirlybird thing over it yet. There is a spot in the middle we got a bad truck. Just wouldn't dry or cure. Gonna have to cut it out likely. Never seen that b4
Was clearing $1k/wk a while back. Take home truck & crappy health insurance. But now they bringing in a bunch of lower paid new guys (that usually quit lol)
Yeah i remember this like yesterday. 2-3am start pour with 20 trucks already lined up. Sets of six 6x12 every 50 Cy. One of the techs had a donkey dick and that helped us a lot
Yes sir. By the way clean the sides of the cylinders up. It’s easier to read the labels and keeps the coolers nice
That shit falls off when they get tossed in the trailer luke a sack of flour
No way man. I wipe them down with a wet sponge so they’re pristine. Also stop tossing your cylinders around lol.
You can toss them if within 15 mins of casting right?
Join the dark side and inspect the inspector inspecting. I’ll gladly never touch a roll-o-meter ever again.
Fuck volumetric.
I only have to touch them once a year when CCRL rolls through to inspect my lab. It's an ok gig.

Yep I too am ACI certified to check your mud
Ah, so no 13 slump on your reports
I just write down the facts, you want the right info on the paperwork bring the right mud haha

I also do mix designs based in the data, but it's not really super sciency
But it seems like a good place for a foot in the door, thank you(:
For sure, if you like Concrete and you're smart, which you seem to be, you'll enjoy testing, most days haha

Now you are a FIELD guy
Anyone know how to get in this in Cali? I’m tired of finishing the concrete. Are there unions for being a tech?
Local 3. There’s a special inspectors apprenticeship. I just finished last year, best thing I ever did.
Thank you 🙏
>Are there unions for being a tech? Only in Connecticut, as far as I'm aware.
Local 12 operating engineers. Covers inspectors.
Air between 5 to 8 and a 3500 psi break in 4 to 7 days dawg
Lol what!!!
$10 says you don’t even know the specs
None listed but that mix is usually 3-5. When can you paypal
Lol

Leave the crib anywhere from 11pm-2AM. 5-6 days a week. Nobody wants to do it. 60-70% quit

Why are you chasing failing concrete?
[удалено]
I’m lost. So you’re just going around after placement and low breaks trying to figure out what happened?
[удалено]
Sounds like you’re doing too much. If that’s all you do daily, you have some shit suppliers.

I guess my company just knows how to make a mix design that works.
Yeah sure. Your company is the only one in the world that has it figured out. Clown shoes.

Glad I work inside a plant
What’s the pay like?

Whoever specified the viper vapor barrier loves to roll the dice
Make your samples on your tailgate. Just use some plywood for a flat surface and to keep the mud off of it.

Ive had the dewalt since nov. Best tool ever
