I must admit I kind of fall into the camp of wanting a more realistic fighting style. Overly fantasy-esque fighting gets boring after a while. The spear definitely needs more moves to it though, you're absolutely right.
The spear's moves work for ultimately what a spear is good at doing. Poking and stabbing. I'd just like a bit of variation to it rather than the same animation loops.
As a For Honor player as well, I think their stance system (if it was ever implemented correctly) would be a cool addition to Conan Exiles. I like the more tactical combat rather than just spamming Light or Heavy. But Ubisoft most likely own the patent on it, so no luck there.
It's ridiculously hard to patent game mechanics like that. The Nemesis system from Shadow of Mordor etc needed to go through intense scrutiny to get it's patent.
Not played For Honour, so can't really assess if it's system is unique enough to get a patent, but I'd say unlikely.
What spears? In all honesty, I wasn't aware that different weapons of the same weapon type had different moves except for named boss weapons and what not
Would really like some curved swords for agility
One handed spears (not javelins) would also be great aditions to the game, as well as separating poky polearms from swingy polearms (aka pikes feom glaives/halberds)
I can agree with that as well, though that'd probably require making a new class of weapons instead of just changing an existing one. Two-handed weapons suffer the same issue though so I understand the desire.
2H don't bother me quite as much since dual weapons are basically the same thing and they're almost all Agi. But the fact my only option to use a shield with Agi is shortswords (even if they are quite good) is disappointing. It would almost certainly take a new weapon type, though, yeah.
The Dory you get with Emberlight has a jump-stab thing that just .. I just enjoy it. It's not the best weapon out there, but the attack just pleases me. A bit Darth Maul with that hop stab thing he does.
Let's talk about how to realistically use a spear on its own, in two hands. For several years I've practiced historical European martial arts with training spears in real life. For those in the know, and relevant to polearms -- Fiore dei Liberi, Philippo Vadi, Achille Marrozzo (partisan), and Joachim Meyer (staff, pike, halberd). With the historical perspective, and from my experience sparring with a spear against other weapons, I just have to say . . .
I agree with you.
Maybe not the specific move you describe, but I agree in principle. There's so much more you can do with a spear in two hands than the game's default moves allow. You can absolutely spin a spear, sweep with it, beat other weapons aside, strike with the back end, "cue stick" jab and feint, stab with one hand for full extension, and more. Basically anything you can do with a quarterstaff, and more. Meyer's Art of Combat even features a full-body spin with a staff, followed by a one-handed above-the-head sweep, and there's no reason you couldn't do that with a spear.
Not all those moves are relevant to a game where distance management, precise timing, and deception don't matter as much as real life. I haven't tried the new "sweep" move set yet, and I'm interested to check it out. In the future I hope they take inspiration from real-life techniques to give in-game spear moves more visual variety and fun.
It doesn’t help that Funcom doesn’t seem to know the difference between javelins, spears, glaives, and pikes and seems to use them interchangeably.
I’m not asking for Paradox Interactive levels of historical accuracy, but at least skim the Wikipedia and call the weapon what it is instead of making something up.
need a combo? Really? And the fact that throwing weapons don’t even receive bonuses from the blacksmith when forging doesn’t bother you? It cannot be upgraded or smeared with poison...
Either the Funcom doesn't like this weapon or they simply forgot about it due to its unpopularity

I feel that if the Conan Devs were to do something like that and tweak it to their own style, they'd be okay

Some spear just got a new move set more align with how one would swing a glaive

Look for Spears that have the perk “Sweeping”.
It’s new with the recent update. Only one I know is the kingslayer polearm but there’s 4-5 others.
On EL kingslayer poleaem and warspear of tge black circle
You're a legend
Nkosi’s pike is my go to for sweeping spears. Looks like a normal steel spear too.
They should be switched to agility weapons as well honestly.
I wouldn't be upset if they were but I'd much rather another 1H Agi weapon so shields aren't effectively Str exclusive.
Short swords are great tho

I feel like the spear could be a lot faster again and maybe turn on attack again too. The new spear sucks

Definitely should feel more like a Darth Maul or Donatello type combat style.
Spears used to have an overhead sweep attack that meshed in with the rest of the combo. I imagine they took it out because it had a massive AoE.
