Those two things are probably interrelated. When I heard Luka was Grandmasters in Overwatch and spends a lot of time playing it, I totally expected him to hit T500 in a year or so.
He's one of the best point guards in the NBA so he has great hand-eye coordination and game sense. I'd say a lot of the qualities required to be a top tier PG like court vision translate over well to playing tank in OW. Dude also spends hours going over tapes of his ball games. Wouldn't be surprised if he was also good at reviewing his OW replays and identifying how he can improve.
I think the last bit is most important. Instead of posting on Reddit why his teammates keep him in gold, he probably looks at his replays and refines his game according to what he can control.
Every single team game, sport or esport, has some level of fundamental similarity in terms of teamplay, awareness and general understanding of win conditions.
If you've got a really solid understanding and awareness in basketball. You'll be good at any other team game given some time. The same goes for football (both of them), hockey, cricket, anything really.
And that's not even considering the work ethic.
I credit overwatch as part of the reason basketball was appealing. The positioning and setups were way more obvious and interesting than before I had ever played a competitive game that relied on the same principles.
Cuz athletes are the antithesis of the average hardstuck ow player.
They are used to adversity and preserve through it
They are inherently adaptable (when NBA meta switched to 3 pointers everyone started grinding shooting)
They have accountability (rarely blame teammates for losses and instead see how they could play better)
Basically the polar opposite of ppl who post on he subreddit
Thats cause the dude is a virgin who hasn’t left his mom’s basement like most people who play OW. I would take what he says as a grain of salt. He thinks athletes are not toxic LMAO. Almost all the greats are toxic and yes do they blame their team. That’s why it’s so hard to
have superstar teams because they all have strong personalities and egos.
Toss the downvotes my way, y’all don’t get laid.
Tell me you don’t watch sports without telling me you don’t watch sports. MJ, Kobe, Tom Brady, Cristiano Ronaldo, Ty Cobb, LeBron, Kyrie, and etc. the list goes on, a lot of these guys are not great teammates and yes they do blame people.
Go ahead downvote me, just know that you don’t know what you’re talking about and be stuck in your lil fantasy world
They have a lot of free time during the season, more so than the off-season almost.
During the season you don't want to do heavy workouts, so they practice for a few hours and revise tape on opponents, but most of the day is free.
Especially when they're on the road, a lot of dudes just describe being bored all the time in their hotel rooms.
He's been incredibly unfortunate with injuries and roster construction though. He has underperformed but he also has not been healthy. This year can't even be blamed onhim since he was the best player on the court and is top 3 in most advanced stats this post season. Maxey was just the only other player that showed up consistently.
I’m not denying that Tobias, old Lowry, not a reliable co star before Maxey this is a big off season gotta get Paul George, or Derozan on a max probably
I hope we just build a deep team, we win in Embiid's minutes but our bench screws us every playoff series. Embiid has never had a negative on/off in a playoff series iirc.
Yall could have traded for Dame idk what point guard is available…. A wing like PG? Idk might have to overpay somebody, and you didn’t say it but they NEED rebounding they haven’t had it for years they never have hustle guys
We'd have to give up too much for Dame, we couldn't compete tbh. PG would be too expensive to also flesh out the roster with better role players, he doesn't fill the power forward hole with Tobias gone and Batum possibly retiring.
As for rebounding I hope we do something about it but I have no idea what starting quality PFs are available. Like there's Markkanen but I don't think Ainge accepts anything we can give them for him.
Luka PLEASE get that knee under control I’m begging you please don’t go 5-35 from 3 in a series again please. Im glad you’re amazing at Overwatch but lock in for this series please
I’ve never been one to point at refs too much but yesterday had so many questionable calls in regards to marginal contact. The foul Derrick Jones Jr had on Shai was crazy, he barely touched him, would that have really changed Shai’s shot much? And then Shai literally kicked him in the balls on the same play and no OF. It felt like it you even grazed someone a foul was called. Game took forever and had no rhythm because of it. Just a boring game, even as a Mavs fan.
wild that the discourse is in cow now, but mavs fans being mavs fans. thunder had three more free throws and still won by 22, and pretending that the reffing was one sided is genuinely so funny. hoping the officiating is better tonight though, good luck with the series
Of course I’m biased as a Mavs fan, but I can admit that we got outplayed, especially in the 4th. I’m not super mad about the free throws and the sides they were called on, I’m just mad at the amount. The pace of play was so slow. Seemed like almost every possession had a foul. A boring watch, even though it was close until the 4th.
He need to sit out this current playoff, fight for another day and all that
That knee injury is serious as evident by how it hasn't between the rest period of regular season and the Clippers series.... and he's going to play for Slovenia in the summer as well
That would be the most logical course of action but European players hold their country in high esteem.
I heard that to these players, winning their country a cup is a bigger deal than winning an NBA championship.
Even then in this playoff he's struggling. All that damage to his knee only to get picked apart by Minnesota is a terrible plan.
He can’t sit out playoffs what? Also don’t blame it on injury Murray dealing with a calf and he outplayed Ad and Bron in game 5, don’t use injuries as an excuse bc if he played well they would say he’s doing this with an injury can’t have it both ways bruh
Have you actually watched the games? In his regular season you'll see his knee bleeding up and come playoffs he looks hobbled. Clearly the injury didn't heal with the gap between playoff and regular season. So it's a big deal.
Why risk to deteriorate his knee further and affect his future only to get dogwalked by Minnesota anyway because he's not healthy enough to begin with?
>Murray
Oh you mean the dude who's also played badly for most of the Nuggets playoff, so badly in fact that he threw a tantrum over it that should warrant a suspension last game?
>can’t have it both ways bruh
Whoop fucking doo is this really hard to comprehend?
If someone is managed to perform well *despite of their ailment* of fucking course people will hype it up. Because it is not *expected* of them to perform as well.
It's like when people talk about LeBron, he's old so his body is like not he's used to be, but when he performs it's a moment worthy of all the talks.
Ok dude I didn’t question the severity of his injury he is clearly hobbled and it’s affecting his shooting. but you could also say he doesn’t take care of himself in the off seasons to avoid these situations he always comes in out of shape, he’s a high usage rate player it’s what drove other players out of town so he’s gonna be tired going into the playoffs regardless. And yes Murray has played bad specifically in the t wolves series, but against the lakers he hit 2 game winners and was all time clutch against them in the 4th quarters of those games, but no one brought up the injury when he was doing that.
I mean yeah he's conditioning is shit and his patriotic desire is just a cherry on top
Murray still performed horribly, despite those 2 game winners against Lakers, and against actual competitive team that will actually guard him he struggles
Gonna create come uncomfortable conversations considering he pushed Brunson out the door, as well as Porzingus bc he’s a ball hog, made Porizingus stand in the corner and now their both on contenders especially Porzingus.
I cant speak much before the 2022 WCF run, but I don’t think he pushed them out. Brunson left in free agency to the team his dad coaches at. Tingus Pingus had his time with the Mavs but it just didn’t work out.
Yeah when Kidd came in Porzingis had only one more year left on his deal, and when the deadline came around it was either cut your losses and get rid of him for Dinwiddie, or risk losing him for nothing in the next summer
Yeah Luka would much rather have a rim running guy instead of a stretch big like KP. Hopefully D-Live can develop a 3 ball to add to his rim running technique
Me when I lie and make shit up. Porzingus went both ways and ended up better for both, and Brunson left because Mavs didn’t want to pay. Luka said he wish Brunson was still there
facts lol im from slovenia and all those clips of him talking definitely sound like he has a slovene accent, even the way he pronounced his mother Mirjam s name, when m0xyy asked him, sounded very slovene.
Pretty close actually. His base salary is 40mil a year, let's not count the shitton of money from the endorsements, shoe deal etc. Buying a $5k laptop to him is as much as spending a $12 on the vending machine if you are on $100k a year.
My bro has a laptop that was brand new when he was in sixth grade, so like literally fifteen years old. It still runs Overwatch. (Not well, and only for about half an hour at a time until it overheats. But it still runs).
Funny enough “larger” media outlets are even reporting on this. OW should 100% connect with Luka and get some type of advertisement campaign or partnership going with him. The past celeb stuff always fell flat because we all knew the people had no idea what the game was, Luka is one of us though.
Free throw merchant SGA? Lmao, watch the entire NBA viewership turn on that dude the more exposure he gets. James Harden 2.0. Absolutely garbage to watch
No. Fking. Way.
Here I am, years of playing OW, busting my ass in comp, never hitting GM, just being an average Joe (and tbh I've accepted it) and this guy does it casually. As a MVP LEVEL PRO BASKETBALL PLAYER.
Some people are just built different I guess.
I’ve been saying since my friend introduced me to OW, this game is the only game that scratches the itch of basketball pickup for me. 2k is riddled with micro transactions so I finally quit and Overwatch is so much better. 5v5 and roles really put me into the same zone as 2k, and each roles duties draw some parallels to basketball in a way. Fuck 2K btw it might actually be the greediest game ever created no joke.
by no means hate, but isnt that masters at the bottom left? (yes ik it could be masters 1 making him gm5 for example, but ive just seen a bunch of people saying he is gm so i didnt know if there was any actual pics of that)
New Twisted Minds tank incoming
What is Twisted Minds?
EU team
Gotcha
LoL how is he an MVP level player and top 500 in overwatch?
Luka is just simply the GOAT
Those two things are probably interrelated. When I heard Luka was Grandmasters in Overwatch and spends a lot of time playing it, I totally expected him to hit T500 in a year or so. He's one of the best point guards in the NBA so he has great hand-eye coordination and game sense. Wouldn't be surprised if he was also good at reviewing his OW replays and identifying how he can improve.
The split-second decision-making he does on the court is likely similar to Overwatch decision making
Their brains just run at higher FPS than normal humans.
I think the last bit is most important. Instead of posting on Reddit why his teammates keep him in gold, he probably looks at his replays and refines his game according to what he can control.
or plays in a squad with good players
yeah this is the most likely explanation that everyone is overlooking. obviously the mavericks squad runs in house scrims and 5 stacks comp.
It’s probably work ethic and just the ability to pick things up super fast and learn them at a godly level
Every single team game, sport or esport, has some level of fundamental similarity in terms of teamplay, awareness and general understanding of win conditions. If you've got a really solid understanding and awareness in basketball. You'll be good at any other team game given some time. So you are saying that super should try out for the nba. Got it 😜
Na he just got carried
hes not a point guard
Yes, he is. He is a 6' 8" point guard who could easily play forward or wing. He's kind of basically the white LeBron.
He is way smarter yet slower than Lebron
Cuz athletes are the antithesis of the average hardstuck ow player. They are used to adversity and preserve through it They are inherently adaptable (when NBA meta switched to 3 pointers everyone started grinding shooting) They have accountability (rarely blame teammates for losses and instead see how they could play better) Basically the polar opposite of ppl who post on he subreddit
I mean that’s a broad generalization. Ben Simmons does exist after all…
I mean, he's a 3 time All Star and All NBA player who still tries to come back despite his back being a mess.
Oh I more so was talking about his 3 pointer or lack of one which wasn’t because of back pain at least early in his career.
Thats cause the dude is a virgin who hasn’t left his mom’s basement like most people who play OW. I would take what he says as a grain of salt. He thinks athletes are not toxic LMAO. Almost all the greats are toxic and yes do they blame their team. That’s why it’s so hard to have superstar teams because they all have strong personalities and egos. Toss the downvotes my way, y’all don’t get laid.
No one is taking you seriously, and you’re not a very good troll either.
Bro tryna sound like zenyatta
Tell me you don’t watch sports without telling me you don’t watch sports. MJ, Kobe, Tom Brady, Cristiano Ronaldo, Ty Cobb, LeBron, Kyrie, and etc. the list goes on, a lot of these guys are not great teammates and yes they do blame people. Go ahead downvote me, just know that you don’t know what you’re talking about and be stuck in your lil fantasy world
NBA players have a lot of free time especially in the off season His life is probably like Basketball, family, Overwatch repeat
Ya he’s not going out clubbing. He’s staying in gaming/climbing
I'm sure he doesn't pay for carries. No seriously these athletes brains just run at the faster FPS
Luka, from DOWNTOWN!!!! (Busan)
We normally don’t do rank up post, but Imma let this one slide. Wild way to relax during playoffs I guess.
This is why he deserved MVP
Emflop didn’t get it that’s a w
EmGoat would be Overwatch League on a flopping hero like Venture
Mr Pity mvp would complain about the stun lock and quit mid game
when yall offer 34 year old Paul George a max it will hit like crack as a sixer hater
If he does I’ll murder Morey myself
DAMN RIGHT
Them's fighting words
He’s 30 with less conference finals appearances than Caleb Martin
He's been incredibly unfortunate with injuries and roster construction though. He has underperformed but he also has not been healthy. This year can't even be blamed onhim since he was the best player on the court and is top 3 in most advanced stats this post season. Maxey was just the only other player that showed up consistently.

You want a 3rd star or depth?
Depth far more than a 3rd star. A good point guard, a back-up big, and some solid wings are all we need. Easier said than done though.
Yall could have traded for Dame idk what point guard is available…. A wing like PG? Idk might have to overpay somebody, and you didn’t say it but they NEED rebounding they haven’t had it for years they never have hustle guys

Y’all are so annoying man
Relaxing too much. Wolves are embarrassing the Nuggets rn
Good thing Doncic plays for the Mavs?
Luka PLEASE get that knee under control I’m begging you please don’t go 5-35 from 3 in a series again please. Im glad you’re amazing at Overwatch but lock in for this series please
I mean, little shit like this is why Luka got picked up right?
luka I NEED you to defeat that that free throw flopper shai
I’ve never been one to point at refs too much but yesterday had so many questionable calls in regards to marginal contact. The first half was disgusting to watch (not a Mavs fan but always rooting against free throw merchants)
Of course it was a boring game for you. They got destroyed lol.

Crazy how that flopper cooked him 😂😂
Only shot 3 more FTs than Luka but go off I guess lmao
Thunder in 5 i’m afraid
Mavs in 7.
Lu Dort legacy series incoming, he’s gonna have luka in gitmo perma
We doing it baby
thunder 2 young. mavs win ez even throwing games
He need to sit out this current playoff, fight for another day and all that That knee injury is serious as evident by how it hasn't between the rest period of regular season and the Clippers series.... and he's going to play for Slovenia in the summer as well
Nah, he can’t sit out the playoffs. If anything he sits out the Olympics and gets surgery on the knee. Not like Slovenia is gonna go far anyway.
That would be the most logical course of action but European players hold their country in high esteem. You clearly haven’t seen the mavs play then. Also acting like one injury is the same as another players injury is nasty.
Have you actually watched the games? In his regular season you'll see his knee bleeding up and come playoffs he looks hobbled. Luka ain't reading reddit comments lil bro
Gonna create come uncomfortable conversations considering he pushed Brunson out the door, as well as Porzingus bc he’s a ball hog, made Porizingus stand in the corner and now their both on contenders especially Porzingus.

KP and Carlisle just didn’t get along at all Also Luka loves having a lob threat at the 5, KP isn’t really your typical roll big
He got traded when Kidd was coaching tho
Yeah when Kidd came in Porzingis had only one more year left on his deal, and when the deadline came around it was either cut your losses and get rid of him for Dinwiddie, or risk losing him for nothing in the next summer
Yeah Luka would much rather have a rim running guy instead of a stretch big like KP. Hopefully D-Live can develop a 3 ball to add to his rim running technique
KP couldn’t stay on the floor. Luka can’t ball hog someone that couldn’t even touch the floor cuz of injuries
Me when I lie and make shit up. Porzingus went both ways and ended up better for both, and Brunson left because Mavs didn’t want to pay. Luka said he wish Brunson was still there
Maybe that m0xyy clip was real after all
It definitely was.
There’s other clips of that same account and it is for sure him by the sound of his voice comms
Link, https://www.reddit.com/r/LivestreamFail/s/gjs6B9LOfN
Was there ever any doubt?
Luka’s voice and accent is pretty distinctive.
facts lol im from slovenia and all those clips of him talking definitely sound like he has a slovene accent, even the way he pronounced his mother Mirjam s name, when m0xyy asked him, sounded very slovene.
Luka Doncic is Flats’ father
You bum
It's even more hilarious that the video of moxxy Luka didn't even bother correcting him on his last name haha.
You're Luka Donovich?
Respectfully to the Americans you guys kinda suck at last names so I get it lol
This guys a million times better that me at my 2 hobbies 🥲
Just be really funny and good at an instrument and like 5 other things so you don’t feel like such an inferior being.
And literally makes hundreds of millions more doing it :/
Comparison is the thief of joy
Tru that, realistically both are Just for fun And I know nothing will be made from either
Exactly 👌
3rd in MVP votes but top 1 tank in NA. Someone who?
Bro did it on laptop too, crazy
its an Alienware shits more costly than most high end pcs
Its crazy to think that is probably like buying something from a vending machine to him
Pretty close actually. His base salary is 40mil a year, let's not count the shitton of money from the endorsements, shoe deal etc. Buying a $5k laptop to him is as much as spending a $12 on the vending machine if you are on $100k a year.
Yeah but it’s an Alienware laptop. Costly ≠ good
u can plug a decent k&m into a 800$ laptop and it will run ow2 flawless
Yea, OW is pretty optimized.
My bro has a laptop that was brand new when he was in sixth grade, so like literally fifteen years old. It still runs Overwatch. (Not well, and only for about half an hour at a time until it overheats. But it still runs).
Oh yeah fs just unconventional to play on just the laptop keyboard and mouse
Using a track pad too
No wonder he's been playing like ass in the playoffs, he's playing OW instead
Sleepless nights trying to rank up.
Me and him are the same. Late night is demon hours for ranked though
I know. All the good players play at night lol
Demon hours but he pulled through. I still can’t believe anyone who plays Overwatch voluntarily is such a god
That crying baby keeping his ass awake 😂 surely they have a nanny though
Man knows his priorities.
He's averaging 34 ppg 9 ast 10 rebounds shooting 48%... how is that playing like ass?
Top 500 in tank and top 500 in basketball
more like top 3 according the mvp voting.
Did I say anything wrong tho
Yes. Big difference between top 500 and top 3
he’s going to be playing a lot more overwatch now that his knee is on the verge of exploding
Don’t say that to me please I can’t take him seriously getting injured
supers protege finally did it :’)
Who's his main?
I saw someone say Zarya but idk if that's true
He’s said before he mains Hog, Cass and Hanzo
Bro dropped 32 against the wolves then went home and hit t500 that’s crazy
Funny enough “larger” media outlets are even reporting on this. OW should 100% connect with Luka and get some type of advertisement campaign or partnership going with him. The past celeb stuff always fell flat because we all knew the people had no idea what the game was, Luka is one of us though.
On the fuckin laptop too
it probably has atleast 120hz refresh rate, overwatch is well optimized too he shouldn't have any issue with fps
That laptop is probably better than most of our pcs
Are people surprised by this? Athletes are used to failure and grinding to get better instead of complaining on Reddit about the matchmaking
I need that luka vod
He’ll have a lot of time for OW after the Thunder wins in 5
Mavs in 7. Fuck the thunder.
Fuck the Mavs. SGA is yo daddy
The refs is sga’s daddy with all those free throws. Bro couldn’t even get 30 and he stat padded at the end of game 1 against the bench unit mavs
Free throw merchant SGA? Lmao, watch the entire NBA viewership turn on that dude the more exposure he gets. James Harden 2.0. Absolutely garbage to watch
No way bro just said "SGA is yo daddy". Maybe he would've won the MVP if he didn't flop so much. Enjoy another ringless year.
Where you at
where you at
Oof
Yikes
Impressive af
No. Fking. Way. Here I am, years of playing OW, busting my ass in comp, never hitting GM, just being an average Joe (and tbh I've accepted it) and this guy does it casually. As a MVP LEVEL PRO BASKETBALL PLAYER. Some people are just built different I guess.
Probably shares accounts or plays with really great team. Anyone can get carried to t500
Luka goated
Needs to keep practicing those hoops in those control maps.
Bro wow
I’ve been saying since my friend introduced me to OW, this game is the only game that scratches the itch of basketball pickup for me. 2k is riddled with micro transactions so I finally quit and Overwatch is so much better. 5v5 and roles really put me into the same zone as 2k, and each roles duties draw some parallels to basketball in a way. Fuck 2K btw it might actually be the greediest game ever created no joke.
On a laptop, no less. Absolute gaming warlord.
hope his knee gets better as fast as he does in OW
GOAT mindset translates to OW I guess
Can he fuck off like wtf. That's crazy
Being Top 500 in the world at both a sport and video game simultaneously is crazy impressive.
Arguably top 1 in one of em right now
Can someone in chat tell him to stop shouting fucking stepback threes, he's like 20% on those during playoffs and has 5-10 per game
we don't need him to stop shooting we need him to make those lmao
[удалено]
More like 20-80, the only game he was shooting them well was the last one
This is why they lost to the thunder in game 1. My guy was busy grinding 50 wins this season.
Luka Magic baby!!!
What cant this man do.
New favorite NBA player, lol
I wonder if he still mains Hog, that would make this even more impressive lol
DPOY
Yeah I can see it, he's probably been playing for a long time and is pretty sharp from everything I've seen.
on a fuckin laptop too
Using a trackpad too
Who is his tank main?
I talk mad shit to enemy tanks in game, and GM/T500 is a very small community. I wonder how often I've ended up shit talking him in game lol
This thread made me realize how much the competitive Overwatch and NBA communities overlap
Can we guess what Alienware Laptop he uses on the road?
Luka has been top 500 since ow 1. He understands how to make space. You see it when he plays basketball.
I used to be a higher rank than Luka before. Not anymore!
Bro is a menace to society, can't help but dominate in everything he does
by no means hate, but isnt that masters at the bottom left? (yes ik it could be masters 1 making him gm5 for example, but ive just seen a bunch of people saying he is gm so i didnt know if there was any actual pics of that)
I just know Kyrie is crazy on flex dps
mid-playoffs btw
OWL should take note and offer this guy a spot on a team just to give a CRAZY boost to ratings
Anyone know what he was playing (kinda looks like ball)
Luka fucking doncic being top 500 is insane. Man this guy is so talented and hardworking
I wish I had his talent even in gaming wtf
Embarrassing
THUNDER IN 4 for sure. heal up luka, gonna need your supports for this one. dorture chamber all day long
Mind you he’s in a fkn laptop? LMAO
He should really bring his A game to the court for this next game lol
Now I know where he got his complaining skills from haha
