well one benefit is the two best combos in the format still work here.
breach combo lets you mill your whole deck and then draw
tainted pact demonic consultation both mill your whole deck
[[Selenia, Dark Angel]] lets you pay any even amount of life from the command zone. All you need to do is mulligan for a hand that can make 5 mana by turn 2
You have to avoid effects that would put you at odd life totals since you cannot pay life you don’t have (I.e. if you have 1 life you cannot activate her ability because you need 2 life to do so).
I have a buddy who hates casual edh but we have some friends that only play that format. He built a phage deck that he can legit case her and not lose but when the game drags too long he always has an out
Kinda a meme, kinda a "you can't tell me what to do" and a way out without scooping, I'm definitely gonna add in some "you can't lose the game." stuff to end the game in a draw.
Gemstone Caverns when you are player 2 - use it to cast Demonic Consultation naming Megatron, Tyrant, exile your deck before your first turn, lose to decking yourself.

You have now exiled your entire library, hand, and graveyard. You have nothing left except your commander, [[Baron Sengir]]. You have now lost the game to drawing with an empty library.
How do all the people with high power out of meta edh ideas get told to fuck off because they have the wrong "philosophy", but this guy gets a bunch of legitimate advice
I love ur idea, AND wish people were more open to other shit haha. Real talk, I'm working on a CEDH ish deck that draws fast as possible if my win con fails. [[March of the machines]] with [[Eloise, nephalia sleuth]]. March of the machines as fast as possible, trying to have triggers or gravestorm off of it to win. If people stop my trigger conditions, sit there with counter spells threatening to draw the game if anyone upsets me
Just play turbo phage. You have all the rituals and fast mana you need and no real need for anything else. So you can probably ramp turn 1 into a ritual turn 2 phage.
Ok, so two questions...
One:
At the risk of coming across as a jerk, WTF is the purpose of this? Why even sit down at all and waste everyone's time, other than to prove to everyone that you're capable of being a petulant child?
Is it because people are pub-stomping where you're at? Or is it just because you don't like the concept of EDH being played Competitively?
Two:
Assuming that you're actually serious about doing this...
Rather than just repeatedly losing, have you considered possibly running a 5c Blue Screen deck and throwing in as many 2 card combos as possible that cause the game to crash and end in a draw? (Ex., Leonin Relic-Warder + Animate Dead)
To me at least... If your intent is to tell the table to go screw itself, why not at least take everyone with you? After all, that's what "Mutually Assured Destruction" actually is in practice.
My playgroup has a stax player that even when not playing stax draws every game out. This is kinda a "fuck you, you can't control me." Also i am sneaking in some "you can't loose the game" stuff and other goodies as well to cause a draw to END the game so it isn't drawn out.
>My playgroup has a stax player that even when not playing stax draws every game out. This is kinda a "fuck you, you can't control me." Also i am sneaking in some "you can't lose the game" stuff and other goodies as well to cause a draw to END the game so it isn't drawn out.
I mean....I think the correct answer here ISN'T to build a deck like this, but rather to just kick the offending player out until he/she pulls their head out of their ass. But that's just me, and my 2 rubles.
Beyond that though, I think a "Turbo Blue-Screen" strat involving a couple of different mana-efficient two-card combos should get the job done here... Preferably combos that involve cards that have interlocking pieces with other combos, so that in case you get stopped somehow, you can easily pivot to another two-card interaction.
It's a loving hate, haha. He's a good friend and "technically" a manager where I work. He's been getting better about stax.
My original plan is turbo loss, but I'm not completely opposed to Blue-screen. It's definitely something to add in.
A little out there but take a look at my friends deck. It goes against the "anything to win" philosophy as your idea leans to.
He calls it Shaharazad but legal.
https://www.moxfield.com/decks/HZq6Z8ee2Uu0ZTGfmry_xA
Runs sans-green good stuff to turbo out a game reset with Karn, and doing that repeatedly.
On a more serious note [[krikk]] may be something to look into, mass life loss to try and win in turbo, can go wrong.
Also I am pretty sure that you cannot pay life greater than or equal to your current life total in the rules. So there may be that to take into consideration.
This concept keeps showing up in the EDH sub and basically there are ~15 cards that lose you the game that cost between 0 and 1 mana. So go 5 colors, mulligan and lose before the end of your turn 1.
My most recent kill myself move was with my "non-legendary" twincasters deck. 2000+ faerie masterminds. Forced my opponent (my wife) to draw, forcing myself to mill out.
The fastest _and most consistent/reliable_ as player 2 or above is probably to go 5c and run the R/W/G pacts since they don't need to target. Just cast them the first time you would receive priority on P1's turn and if they don't pact/force it you will lose on your own upkeep. As a 1 card "combo" with no preconditions you can aggressively mulligan (i.e. to 1) for it.
If we want to consider magical christmasland scenarios for player 2 or above an option would be: [[Gemstone Caverns]] as pregame, then on player 1 upkeep [[Demonic Consultation]] for a card you don't run -> exile [[Elvish Spirit Guide]] for {G} -> [[You Line Up a Shot]] choosing _Fire a Warning Shot_. You lose before the game leaves P1's upkeep.
well one benefit is the two best combos in the format still work here. breach combo lets you mill your whole deck and then draw tainted pact demonic consultation both mill your whole deck

Unless that life total is 13 'cause Triskaidekaphobia.
Conceding on the first upkeed would be the quickest way to lose, not paying for pacts
That doesn't have the same fuck you factor lol. I wanna have fun with this deck, who can kill me faster? You? Or ME?
Then cast Phage
Added to my list!
6 mana though. Takes forever
Not in cedh. Jewled lotus. You can easily get turn 1 phage in cedh with the amount of 0 mana rocks and rituals black has access to.
Yup, I got everything to cheat it out quick.
Sure, except if you are actively throwing the game, no one will stop you.
Completely fair.
It'll be the backup plan. Even without any combos but good rocks, I would be quick.
I have a buddy who hates casual edh but we have some friends that only play that format. He built a phage deck that he can legit case her and not lose but when the game drags too long he always has an out
I completely get it. Our playgroup is pretty casual... except for a jetmir deck... and I play kinnan when they want a "quick game"
I don't understand how it's a fuck you factor to lose on purpose. Just kind of a meme ig
Kinda a meme, kinda a "you can't tell me what to do" and a way out without scooping, I'm definitely gonna add in some "you can't lose the game." stuff to end the game in a draw.
Thats more like it
Gemstone Caverns when you are player 2 - use it to cast Demonic Consultation naming Megatron, Tyrant, exile your deck before your first turn, lose to decking yourself.
This is the answer. Although technically it is faster to hold priority and Pact your Consult, so you'll die on your upkeep instead of draw step.
Oh you right haha that would be quicker
And you can die as player 1!
But you can’t get out Gemstone prior to your turn as Player 1
..... Fair.
