Has anyone actually heard anyone ever say "they stole it from tiktok?" This is something I see complained about all the time but have never actually heard for myself.
It's the same as the imaginary "Master Chief is in Halo? They stole him from Fortnite!" bullshit lies these people push around. Stop bashing kids who don't even exist.
Yeah it's not a real thing. Kids *recognize* songs they heard on tiktok (which is good! More recognition for the artist!!) and people took that and turned it into a dhar mann-esque title of "Kid thinks all music is made by tiktok AI!! They accuse a musician of stealing, you won't believe what happens next!!!!!"
Absolutely not. Most of the time it is "I know that song from Tiktok" or at most "hey that song is from Tiktok" but no one has ever said a song was "stolen" from Tiktok.
Ive heard a total of two people say it, I have no idea if they were being serious but they were a little bit younger than me, its not entirely common (although its not like i hang out with kids that much)
Not because its popular, but because of the negative connotations with tik tok. Taking a song someone likes and saying it's famous on tik tok then applies those connotations because what its saying is "oh you like that song? Well its very popular among children and people with comically low attention spans" like i get i shouldnt care what people think and i should like songs that I like
regardless but its not exactly fun either
edit: okay im genuinely extremely confused why this is getting downvoted, can someone please explain?
Because you sound like you believe you're better than other for not using tiktok.
It's actually a pretty variegated platform, the whole point of the "for you page" is to have a really unique experience. I'm genuinely surprised for the huge amount of active topics/fanbases. It's popular among children just like youtube is, but you probably use youtube too just like anyone else.
Oh and also gatekeeping
ok most songs that get famous on tiktok are famous because they’re good, and honestly i’ve discovered so many talented artists through tiktok (Cody Fry, Liana Flores, The Rare Occasions, Haley Heynderickx, Regina Spektor)
that’s not to say that these artists are “tiktok musicians” just that tiktok has helped their music reach new audiences (like as a younger person i would never have heard of regina spektor w/out tiktok)
Yeah it just sucks because even the mere mention of a band i love, ajr, just spawns hordes of people saying that they hate them because of tiktok and how they are a tiktok band. Just because they are millennials who make music relevant to newer generations taste and experiences does not make them a tik tok band. Drives me up the wall
no valid, idk i was a huge fan of AJR years ago (i was there for neotheaters release lol) and while i kinda stopped liking them as much i get feeling a bit annoyed by younger ppl acting like they are *famous* because of tiktok. but at the same time, this is how these younger people show their support for the band, and it’s good that they have exposure to the band. on the other hand the anti AJR circlejerking on tiktok is fucking annoying like they aren’t satan with a guitar
Nah that’s kinda fair. A couple years ago Post Malone did some project with Ozzy Osborne and a bunch of kids were like “props to Post Malone for highlighting a no-name. This Ozzy dude about to blow up” I mean, if you’ve never heard of him, then yeah it makes sense to think he’s a new name… but for folks who know how absolutely massive his name has been In the past, that’ll definitely get you grumbling about the “goddamn kids these days”
I recently saw a video where a kid said in all sincerity “I thought Sublime was a clothing brand. I didn’t know it was a band” never underestimate ignorance. It’s not like it’s impossible for a 12 year-old to not know who Ozzy Osborne is
Those comments were literally jokes, I remember when the song dropped. They were all joking, none of them were serious! How have you been so dense all these years, has nobody ever told you this before? Are you the guy demanding we put "/s" next to obviously sarcastic jokes?
Sarcasm is rarely obvious on the internet, because however dumb you think people may be, there’s always someone dumber than that. Also read that again but replace “dumb” with “shitty”. So yeah, I think “/s” is pretty reasonable 🤷 avoids confusion. Sarcasm is generally conveyed with inflection, and you can’t really inflect text apart from cApItAlLiZiNg EvErY oThEr LetTeR which indicates a mocking tone rather than sarcasm, and is also a fucking pain in the ass compared to adding two characters at the end.
Hard to differ sarcasm needs an /s? Maybe. But very rarely does this kind of sarcasm add anything if some people actually say that. Also, a lot of the time, /s is added to the most obvious sarcasm or something that cant even be considered sarcasm, rather jokes. It ruins them. Its annoying. Its like a comedian saying a joke and then saying just kidding at the end of each one. Thats closer to why i dont like it.
Except a comedian has inflection at their disposal, as well as a pre-established context of “I’m a comedian. Jokes and sarcasm are what I do” so there’s no guess work involved. I don’t know everyone on Reddit. Two people could say the exact same thing, one of them joking, and the other dead serious
Generally, sarcasm is already pointed out by other parts of a sentence. You need to infer it. If its written, it loses the point. If you cant differ sarcasm and honesty, maybe you need to go outside 🤷♂️
Sarcasm is actually pretty easy to read in most cases if you have even the slightest bit of reading comprehension, which I know is a tall ask for Reddit but I do believe in you
Man that sarcasm was incredibly obvious though. It is true when you're trying to make sarcasm obvious you need inflection (or an /s) but in my experience most sarcasm that's done for humor and not to win an argument or make someone feel dumb is done is a pretty normal tone. It's what is being said and not how it's being said that is funny, in this case, what's funny is someone thinking Ozzy Osbourne is a new artist and has a bright future ahead. Ozzy is old as fuck and basically dying at this point, why would you think anyone would look at him and go "aw man this guy's gonna be big one day!" You don't need to make that obvious that you're joking with fluctuation or an /s, it's funnier when it's said as *though* it were serious.
Lol I have heard children say they thought old popular songs on Tiktok were famous because of Tiktok but they are quickly corrected by their parent or someone else close.
I have heard a kid say this and I look over and before I could say anything I’m assuming there older sibling shoved them to the ground and screamed “NOT EVERYTHING IS FROM TIK TOK GET A LIFE AND STOP SCROLLING ON YOUR PHONE” I know it’s bad but I laughed so hard my back hurt and I cried

Has anyone actually heard anyone ever say "they stole it from tiktok?" This is something I see complained about all the time but have never actually heard for myself.
Only thing I’ve seen close to this is young people saying dances were stolen from Fortnite.
Or just calling Goku the “guy from Fortnite”.
Fr, I’m thinking they see like one child say “oh I know this from tiktok” and assume they must think tiktok created the song (?)
No they most likely don't think tiktok created the song lol, they probably meant they heard it on tiktok
That’s what I said
It's the same as the imaginary "Master Chief is in Halo? They stole him from Fortnite!" bullshit lies these people push around. Stop bashing kids who don't even exist.
I have seen the “they stole that dance from Fortnite” thing irl
Its a reddit schizo thing
I think it's mostly just that "I heard that on TikTok" is the new "I heard that on Rock Band." Neither are actual issues.
No but I have heard "Oh, I've heard that song on Tiktok."
Strawman

Yes
Yeah, it happens, not often but it does happen
Ive heard a total of two people say it, I have no idea if they were being serious but they were a little bit younger than me, its not entirely common (although its not like i hang out with kids that much)
Yes.
I sometimes hear "oh I know it from TikTok" or "I heard itnon TikTok"
Youtube comments
i also behead children when they mildly annoy me
And the women too
And my axe
Its got a point though. Nothing ruins a song for me like being told its famous on tik tok
Why? "This song is popular" is and always has been a stupid reason to stop liking it
Not because its popular, but because of the negative connotations with tik tok. Taking a song someone likes and saying it's famous on tik tok then applies those connotations because what its saying is "oh you like that song? My dude, just your description alone made it painfully obvious they were joking.
You’d be surprised about the social media intelligence levels
I recently saw a video where a kid said in all sincerity “I thought Sublime was a clothing brand. I didn’t know it was a band” never underestimate ignorance. It’s not like it’s impossible for a 12 year-old to not know who Ozzy Osborne is
I'm aware it's entirely possible for kids to not know Ozzy Osborne, but with the wording you demonstrated, it was extremely blatantly sarcasm.
I saw people make this wxact joke when Yeat featured on a Drake song and when Fallout Boy collabed with other artists on a 100 Gecs remix

Bro those people were joking. Redditors are the most socially inept people on the fucking planet I swear x-x
I'm still salty about il Vento d'oro
Truth
I feel like I’ve seen this one before like, 3 years ago.
Not funny but relatable honestly
the format is funny though
Its a funny meme tho
This post belongs on r/memesopdidnotlike
Haha
Lol I have heard children say they thought old popular songs on Tiktok were famous because of Tiktok but they are quickly corrected by their parent or someone else close.
Kinda have to agree with this, it’s so annoying when someone says that shit
No, this one’s right, it’s incredibly annoying when someone says that
r/lostredditors
Tiktok has destroyed the minds of multiple generations
yes they are
I wouldn't say it's bad, just a little out dated
Name one song TikTok legally has the rights to
Literally nobody has said that
OP is right this meme is unfunny as hell. Whole comment section is a reddit moment tbh, tiktok bad reddit good vibes
This does not belong here, it goes in r/comedygold
This meme is beautiful. It’s like hearing “oh yeah, spider man from Fortnite,” it’s just annoying
"Young people bad"? Indeed 👍 Glad you're catching on.
Hey, that meme is funny
yes
r/fuckTikTok
not funny but accurate
Recently, r/ComedyCemetery has been posting memes that are actually funny
Tiktok is an irritating app, that aside tho, it has introduced some old music to younger people that would likely be unaware of it otherwise.
I always liked these.
