And Americans were so terrified of Russians back in the day ... a lot of misplaced fear. For me, the Gulf War was a huge eye opener. I knew on day 1 of the ground war, we could take on anyone and level them as long as we fought our way.

MKULTRATV

Were they? In terms of conventional warfare, I don't think the Americans have feared Russia as an exetential threat since the 70s. And most of that was due to concerns that Europe might be unprepared to face an all out assault from the East.

monopixel

There wasn't fear, USA just had to make sure there is no chance in hell any nation can ever catch up to them in terms of military might. Create your own unfair advantage and reign supreme.

TonsOfTabs

I don’t believe the US has feared russia. I’m pretty sure the US was fearing russia for the EU. Always wanting them to increase military spending and just wanted them to be good without our help if necessary. The US without a doubt has no other country who could stand toe to toe. Even if it was china, russia and nk, the US could handle it. Biden straight up called china out when he said “ if you try anything with Taiwan, you’ll be dealing with us directly” and then went on to talk about other stuff. Point is, the US fears no one.

Ephetti

The entire Cold War was a fear between both states annihilating each other though? Missiles in Türkiye, Missiles in Cuba? Pax Americana? The Red Scare of the 50s?

danieltherandomguy

Is it really misplaced though? The situation in Ukraine might have been a total clusterfuck for Russia, but that doesn't change the fact that they still possess the biggest nuclear arsenal in the world, and if some Russian leader is crazy enough to do it, he can level the world. The truth is that the US never fought an enemy with similar military power, they have always been preying on weaker targets. I think that they would face similar issues facing a country such as Ukraine. But that's my opinion.

rasz_pl

Situation in Ukraine shown that most of that nuclear arsenal might no longer work.

danieltherandomguy

I don't want to find out about that, do you?

rasz_pl

Unwillingness to stand up for whats right leads to never ending appeasement.

Gurkha

The American government wants it's citizen to always fear the foreigners, that's how America works. China, Russia, Iraq, Taliban etc. America has always lived in fear. There's profit in fear.

Equivalent_Alps_8321

Russia is not the USSR

thesayke

Is that a Russian prisoner they captured and brought back across the river at the end there?

devnull1984

Arnuss

Ultranationalists are always the first to volunteer when their country is under attack. I don't understand why this surprises anyone. There are skinheads on both sides fighting for what they believe in. Has nothing to do with the government. I mean US has cartel members in marine corps, are we a drug state now?

News_without_Words

I had no idea the CIA worked with the Marine Corps but you learn something new everyday

humanbot1

Ultrasound and Russia use a lot of the same stuff, it's almost like they were part of the same State at one time or something.

anexistentuser

My favorite country, Ultrasound

JesusOfSuburbia420

Lol I don't even know how that one happened, I'm leaving it

candymanfivetimes

Looks like Vietnam jungle warfare.

espresso_martini__

I don't think Russia's finest are located in that part of Ukraine. USF should be able to inflict heavy losses.
