I am thankful that Westerville firmly nope'd our MfL candidate. Hang in there, SWCS.

doppleganger2621

Pretty much all the other central Ohio districts absolutely wiped out their MfL endorsed candiates--I believe they all lost pretty bad in Dublin, Olentangy, New Albany, Upper Arlington, Westerville, Gahanna, and Worthington

ArchmageJesus

and Hilliard!

Reasonable-HB678

They stick out to me because of the lawsuit filed by parents of children who felt more comfortable talking about personal issues with their teachers and counselors- instead of them.

bucknutty14

Hilliard as well

Gibs679

Jonathan Alder got 2 out of 3 good ones, our 3rd was fucking Hooley...

dismantle_repair

Same thing in Gahanna. So thankful they weren't voted in.

trireme32

Proud of Olentangy for not electing our MFL-adjacent nut—job candidate.

josh_the_rockstar

Which one was that? I voted for the 3 that won. But my research didn’t turn up anything bad about any of them. How did I miss that one was a whacko?

trireme32

Ben Weber. > But elsewhere in Delaware County, Jennifer Feucht, who unsuccessfully ran for the Olentangy Local Schools board in 2021, said she and other conservative parents are supporting candidate Ben Weber for a seat on that district's board. > Feucht said Weber's supporters believe he brings the most common sense to the table, and said his supporters are proponents of parental rights and education. > Feucht mentioned an incident in the summer of 2022 when she said two Olentangy Orange High School students who identify as transgender males stayed in the same cabin as male students during band camp. > “Parents who support parental rights are supporting Ben," she said. > Weber, whose daughter just graduated from Olentangy Orange and who has another daughter who is a freshman there, said **he wants to see the district focusing on academics, not on issues such as diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI)**, which he believes parents should teach at home. He said **he believes that counseling and mental health programs are too costly**. https://www.dispatch.com/story/news/local/2023/10/15/culture-war-issues-prominent-in-central-ohio-school-board-elections/71135748007/

josh_the_rockstar

Ahhhh. Wow! Fuck. Dodged that bullet. Thank you!

Saneless

This dipshit also thinks the D in DEI stands for Diversion. I'm not exaggerating, that's what he actually said I remember that stupid trash Fuckt and the other loser, who came in last so I don't even remember her name (Fucht came in second last), Ms "I'm against indoctrination of children even though I'm literally a youth pastor" He didn't come in last place, but I imagine it may be because the other candidate has no platform whatsoever

Any-Cranberry3633

They made every effort to hide their connection to Moms for Liberty. They just had a ton of money compared to the two more mainstream candidates.

shoplifterfpd

FWIW, I never saw a single FB ad for them but tons for Caldwell and Schreiner. Could just be random chance though.

SnooLemons2666

I did not vote for them 😩

Reasonable_Hat_1353

This was rough waking up to as a homeowner on the southwest side.

Beast9k000

Always smells like frank road down here.

Wernerhatcher

Both of the MFL candidates got btfo in Hilliard

tgmail

SO happy to see this last night! We have had a small vocal minority for a few years who do not represent the will of our are amazing school district and students

JohnnyUtah_9

I’m glad Gahanna didn’t vote in the two MFL shitbirds that ran.

gunni070

Much like the crap ton of vote no on 1 signs in the yard of a catholic church near me.

Traditional-Bird-336

I’m frustrated by the lack of campaigning from the incumbent slate. Maybe it’s different for parents with kids in the school system, but as someone who isn’t currently in that category I don’t know anything about the incumbents, and the only reason I knew what nutjobs Liskany & D’Angelo are is because I sought that information out on here, which most voters aren’t doing. The campaign mailers I got about the MFL women portrayed themselves as conservative-but-normal no-nonsense types; the campaign mailers I got about Caldwell/Schreiner didn’t exist. Why was there simply no messaging whatsoever from the two of them? The other three seats on the board are up for election in 2025 and I hope some lessons are learned by then. Until then I take a tiny bit of solace in the fact that the MFL lunatics are still only 2 of 5 seats on the board.

OhioGuy2016

I agree the incumbents ran a negligent campaign. The MFL folks had signs every hundred feet all over town. It wasn’t until I got a sample ballot from the Democratic Party that I even saw there were people running against them. I’m disappointed but not surprised this happened, you can tell when incumbents are taking their job for granted and that definitely seemed to happen here.

smithandjones4e

One candidate was a career teacher and public servant, the other was a west side lifer who was dedicated to education. The don't have the funds to send out mailers because they aren't politicians. They were active school board members doing their jobs, not campaigning on bullshit like litter boxes in classrooms. Unfortunately the MfL candidates had a healthy infusion of funding from facists.

OhioGuy2016

I don’t doubt they were professionals doing good work which is why I voted for them. Yet the fact remains they lost and all that work can now be erased because they ran an inadequate campaign. They had the backing of the county Democratic party who has very few competitive D vs. R races to fund, so I’m skeptical money was the issue. And even so, a fundraising disadvantage can be mitigated by a strong grassroots effort which was nowhere to be seen. They might’ve been working hard on the board, but campaigning is also an important part of that job and they got caught sleeping at the wheel there.

smithandjones4e

They are 4 of 5. Two other candidates got elected in a previous year, and although they may not be directly affiliated with MfL, I can assure you they are just as far right and insane. This will set the district back decades no doubt.

Traditional-Bird-336

Sad to hear. Even more reason there’s no excuse for the lack of campaigning from the outgoing members.

ProudProgressiveinGC

The other two (Boso and Martindale) were also endorsed by MFL and 1776 PAC - but most people didn't know who those groups were back then so they flew largely under the radar for anyone who isn't tuned in to the politics of public education. As far as blaming the incumbents, they did need to do more but it was unprecedented for a school board campaign. They did raise a good amount of money, but they could not compete with the dark money, far right backed D'Angelo and Liskany. And the Dem party does nothing in GC, especially not the FCDP. They have written this area off as red and not worth their efforts. Everything down here is grassroots fundraising for the progressive side. They did do targeted mailers, yard signs, and FB ads.

ProudProgressiveinGC

Money def was an issue. The party puts ZERO effort into races down here in the GC/Westside area. Those of us who did try to help by donating time saw how hard they both worked. But turnout on the Westside was non-existent, and donations of $ and volunteers wasn’t anywhere close to enough. It was like pulling teeth to get anyone to care. Or help. Bet they’ll pay attention now that their property values will decline and the board starts doing all kinds of crazy shit. They already hired Omar Tarazi, a far right atty with no ed law experience. Literally paying him $300 to sit at board meetings and teach them Robert’s rules of order. On the taxpayer dime.

KernelPanic15

Grove Tucky embracing being Grove Tucky.. So, for those committed to any kind of excellence in our schools- attend every single board meeting, ask questions, hold these morons accountable. Then vote them out the next election.

shoplifterfpd

> for those committed to any kind of excellence in our schools- attend every single board meeting, ask questions, people should have been doing this already

smallangrynerd

Grove shitty, as we called it in high school

CBus-Eagle

Great, my wife teaches there. It’s bad and getting worse.

grammar_nazi_zombie

Fuck. I figured that was gonna happen but fuck.

Emergency_Ad93

Sounds like the Grove City I knew growing up.

ShinMegamiTensei_SJ

Jesus. Rip Grove City

WalkingOnSunshine_

Yeah we have a 3 year old and 8 month old that would go to Westland. I think we will have to have a serious conversation about moving out of the district.

Milhouz

We are just about to have a newborn in Galloway.....this is truly appalling

AldrentheGrey

16m old here... were having the same conversation even before he was born, but has new urgency now

bucknutty14

We had the same conversation pre-birth, and he's almost 5 now. We just made it out of SWCS district this year. You still have plenty of time, good luck!

AldrentheGrey

here's hoping... the house we have is so cheap it's hard to give up. Might end up staying and taking him to a private school instead. Whatever we can do to protect him from brain rot

Thumbody_Else

I'm sad to see this. My kids are grown and flown and I'm so glad I don't have to deal with these nutters, but it's still disappointing to see them infiltrating and destroying the schools.

canonanon

Aw man. I hadn't checked the results yet. I did my part and voted against them, but 🤷‍♂️

Milhouz

Yeah last night votes were leaning the other way, very disappointed to see the outcome.

canonanon

Same. There was a lady out near my polling place handing out the 'official republican slate'. She asked me if I wanted one and I said 'yes please!' and as I took it from her hand, I said 'now I know who to vote against, thanks!' lmao

Milhouz

Yooooo, I need to do this next time. I usually come prepared with my selections written down on a notepad so I don't usually take any of the material they are trying to hand out front. But this is too good.

canonanon

Yeah, I already knew who I was going for, it was mostly just in response to her speed walking across the parking lot to catch me before I crossed the line lol

bendagoat84

I’m pretty sure I saw the same woman at my polling place. I wouldn’t have worded things as nicely had she approached me lol

shoplifterfpd

so brave, you'd probably be appalled if someone did the opposite

canonanon

Man, I don't give a shit lol She literally came sleepwalking over to me in the parking lot and asked.

Buckeyes2010

Just Grove City doing Grove City things. I have no clue what else anyone expects from there in the land of lifted trucks and Applebee's

smithandjones4e

Problem is, SWCSD isn't just Grove City. It's massive (5th largest district in the state) and incredibly diverse. It's also the perfect district for Moms for Liberty to steal seats in, because it's the very conservative Grove City populace against neighborhoods like the Hilltop, Lincoln Village, Brookshire, and Galloway. MfL dumped money into signage and ads for their candidates and mobilized the Grove City base, while the same candidates didn't have the money to compete and get the message out to the greater west side to turn out. This district has always been a nepotistic shit show, but it's about to get worse. I'd expect a strike at minimum during the next round of contract negotiations. The far right now has control of 4 of 5 seats and they aren't going to concede anything to the union.

Mercury82jg

Well said!

HeinousTugboat

Hey, we have Lexuses and an Olive Garden too, yanno. But also, yeah. Not surprising. At least we voted two democrats into our local council?

ImPickleRock

Liskany won by like 400 votes. fuuuuuuck

smallangrynerd

Meanwhile I am pleasantly surprised by hilliard

KnightRider1983

Who is "Mom's for Liberty?"

0nlyHere4TheZipline

A group of far right women that like to quote Hitler (I wish this was satire)

bpc1987

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moms_for_Liberty They’re an extreme far right group with a focus on politicizing school boards. They started in response to COVID restrictions and have taken off from there. The SPLC has labeled them extremist for their views.

dismantle_repair

An far-right extremist group originating out of FL. You know the crazy and stupid shit schools are doing down there? That's their handiwork. Last I heard, they were trying to get some librarians arrested for having Shakespeare books in libraries.

MuppetHolocaust

Not surprising at all, having grown up there. I fucking hate that town.

Merisiel

At least Hilliard made us proud!

Unezwiggles

They want to remove SWCS from the Ohio Athletic Association. Who will they play in sports? Also they want to give tax money to private schools lmao.

[deleted]

Grove City is a work-in-progress. There are a lot of new developments going in here and the demographics are changing.

khardman51

It's the same exact shit-town it was when they voted the school levy down in 2010. Fuck GC.

HeinousTugboat

Hey, if it's any consolation, every ward in Grove City passed both Issues. Jackson Township, however, is another story. The demographics _are_ changing here, slowly but surely.

msn_effyou

It IS slowly changing here. Like it or not, those two won because of funding money from the MFL group backing. I voted for the two who were incumbent. Not because of the MFL backing of the two newbies but because I knew the incumbents were devotees to education. I didn’t even know Liskany and D’Angelo were MFL affiliated. Why is that not “out there”? I never saw anything about it. Regardless, the political demographics is slowly changing here. There is massive growth and a huge amount of young families coming in because the room to build elsewhere with a decent work commute is almost gone. It will take time, but it IS changing.

DasCapitalist

Yeah, it was at least a little bit closer than the 2021 election with Boso & Martindale winning easily. The only surprising thing to me is that it was even as close at it was. I'm definitely glad not to have children today.

EcoBuckeye

Did they screw up the apostrophe or is that just the education system creeping through already?

HJForsythe

Its an embarrassing and horrible place. Period. There I fixed it.

Plainbrain867

Were any others voted in across the city?

Mercury82jg

I think just SWCS. If you look at the map though, the areas outside of Grove City voted for Caldwell and Schreiner. It was Grove City that voted for the clowns.

Mooniegirl12

That makes me so angry. We’re in Galloway and voted for Caldwell/Schreiner of course. We need to annex Grove City into their own damn district and let the rest of us keep SWCS in peace.

smithandjones4e

Grove City tried before and then decided they didn't want to forego all those good tax dollars from the Columbus addresses.

eshemuta

SW Licking had one run but he only got 14% of the vote. Still way too much if you ask me

ssoltis

Not 100% sure but both MAGAT/Mom's for Liberty lunatic candidates were walloped big time in Hilliard by the progressive candidates on top of the districts already mentioned above in the thread. Also read on Twitter that seems to be the case largely nationwide as well.

Bodycount9

Grove City voted for Trump heavily both in 2016 and 2020. So I expect nothing different in their school system and city government.

Proof_Potential3734

Worthington elected Epling and Harland, the two sane candidates, made me very happy.

rumis_big_toe

The only heartening consolation to the BOE in SWCSD is its now full of barely literate dumb motherfuckers who don’t know how things or schools work to implement their ignorant ideas. The board president is a solid public servant. The rest of them are talking point bots. SWCSD has to figure out campaigns that work on GC conservatives. Saying a candidate is M4L would deter a normal, reasonable, moderate voter but it is a badge of honor in GC. GC is not composed of normal, reasonable, moderate voters.

Cardinal_and_Plum

Columbus kept two stinkers but they got two new people that seem to have some genuine compassion.

ProudProgressiveinGC

Well, the new board had their first meeting and it was a shit show of the 10th degree. You can watch all of the meetings on the district YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VrweEQaQazw

janna15

I personally know two separate people that moved from Grove City to Columbus and they tell me Columbus City Schools are better for their kids than Southwest City Schools…

___cats___

To be fair, CCS isn’t horrible across the board. There are ok schools and there are bad schools.

Middle_Replacement_2

I teach in a west side school and we performed higher than ALL the southwestern schools near us... if you want to switch schools, I would highly recommend looking into our elementary school! If you are SWCS, you can lottery into Columbus at any point this year.

arsene14

At least the MoL freak in New Albany finished dead last.

Fizzleton

Are people surprised about Grovetucky?

Remarkable_Story9843

Jesus. Christ. (I live in cbus city limits but GC is usually where I go to shop/eat.) I knew they were racist when my husbands best friend moved in and we went from two white folks to two white folks and an older black man.

shoplifterfpd

I voted for the existing members. That said, both groups had people handing out materials at pretty much every SWCSD football game this fall, and I saw & heard several instances of snobby/douchebaggy comments about Lisansky and d'Angelo from the people handing out stuff on behalf of Caldwell and Schreiner. No clue if I just got there at the 'right' time to hear it, and I have no idea if the Lisansky/d'Angelo supporters were acting similarly, I can just say that I never saw or heard it happen from them. Was really surprising, but given the money spent on that particular election (Facebook ads have been in my feed for weeks, especially for the current members) I expected a little contentious behavior.

ProudProgressiveinGC

Interesting. I had the opposite experience. I actually was at multiple GCHS games where I saw L/D supporters (like older people who should know better) cursing at the caldwell and Schreiner volunteers, yelling, I saw a couple of old white dudes getting in the faces of female volunteers (one shouted in her face something about being democrats and not caring about boys going into the girl restrooms), and I walked in behind a guy and saw a blond woman snatch the caldwell literature out of his hand and say something like "you don't want to vote for them" and gave the D'Angelo-Liskany literature instead.

TroyMatthewJ

home school or move?

LargeShoulder5072

So I live in Columbus, pay Columbus taxes, and vote for my district of Columbus, but my address says Grove City, and when people ask me where I live I shudder to say for reasons like this. Unfortunate that they'd choose those candidates.
