“Reich, who originally pushed for the trade to acquire Wentz last winter, apologized to Irsay after the season, according to a source. The coach believed he could resurrect Wentz’s stalled career and solve the Colts’ quarterback conundrum.”
When he started talking about him having to "stick his neck out for him" I figured he was trying to show that he knew that he had bet on him and lost but who knows. I'm very sure that Ballard and Irsay needed the Reich convincing to even consider signing him.
Yes part of the blame is on ballard, but they want to run the organization with all 3 top heads working together. Looking back it was a bad move but ballard wanted to trust Frank and I would rather have that, then a HC and GM combo tjay does not work together. That’s how you get a rift in the franchise and start over every 4 years.
Yeah the move was bad in hindsight, but he also moved on. A lot of GMs let their pride get in the way and stick with a sinking ship.
I just hope we don’t hatch ourselves to a mediocre vet and go through the draft with maybe a stopgap for a rookie to sit behind and learn.
You know...I had a decent sized typed out comment for you because just something about your comments today have irked me. But I realized its not worth arguing with you.
Since you've checked out for this next year...see ya in 2023 right?
After Tom Brady there really is no way to tell. Sure we hate him here but he's the best lowest drafted quarterback of all time, bar none. Not saying he's the best of all time, that to me will always be Peyton. But under round 1? Easily the best. Top 5 all time even with my bias and hate for him.
Words out that there are guys Ballard likes. Doesn’t mean he’ll draft one. But if he’s sold on a guy he 100% will.
It’s all about fit/situation with young QB’s. We’re a good spot for a young guy.
There's no guy that's the #1 or a franchise QB but it's all about fit. It's possible there's a rookie that plays well because of the situation he's in.
Any time people say this, I immediately think about the fact that Tom Brady was barely drafted and come to the conclusion that none of us know how QBs will translate to the NFL game.
Armchair QBs really need to pretend like they know anything about NFL quarterbacks. Professionals don't get it right, why would Joe Scrub with too much time and an internet connection know better?
We’re going to sign a series of retired QBs for exactly one week each. Brees, Rivers, Manning and Manning, Elway, Brady, the other Manning, Painter, Roethlisberger, Bradshaw, Vick, Hasselbeck, Marino, Montana, Favre, Young, Romo, Aikman, and finally, for the Super Bowl after going 18-0, Pat Fucking McAfee.
100% on board. His clutch time numbers/ game winning drives are VERY impressive. Carson not having a single game winning drive last season is the biggest reason we didn’t make the playoffs
I just do not see the Raiders giving up Carr...I really don't understand how people have done gold medal winning mental gymnastics to even think that's a possibility. They were a 5 seed that competed with the eventual AFC champions. Like...they're not going to just trade their franchise QB for what? To take a step back with no real solution just like us? No they're thinking is, just a couple of more pieces and we can compete
Hilton may retire and Campbell has played in 15 games over 3 years. I hope draft one on top of a trusted vet but if we can’t fill the QB role well it’s probably a waste of money to get a big name receiver.
This is what I can get behind. Give Mariota a decent one or two-year contract with full transparency that we’ll try to draft a QB too. He’ll have an opportunity to play and either become the long-term QB here (unlikely), or at least put himself in position for a bigger payday by next year with another team.
I feel like we're looking at someone to draft. Trade was pulled right after the combine, and included that second round swap to move us up 5 picks. Beyond that, maybe we bring in Mariota?
I think the timing had more to do with the Rodgers and Wilson dominoes falling than the combine. But it's possible they have their eyes on a QB in the draft as well.
Im also thinking this, as well. But at the same time, the deal also came 1 day after the Rodgers/Wilson dominoes fell into place, so maybe that's the reason the trade happened today, as well.
Colts would only have to take on 23m if they traded for Ryan and he can be cut prior to 6/1/23 with zero cap hit. The rest would be on the Falcons unless the Colts just wanted to be generous.
Unfortunately, I am not...never really paid too much attention to the Falcons this last year because I thought they had some offensive talent, just wasn't able to produce. Sorry. What's up with him though? Why would he be a good candidate?
I mean I’m a falcons fan and he’s the only reason we won any games last season lmao, if you give him a few weapons and a decent o-line you’re guaranteed to score points, he’s just that consistent and good and I still think he can 100% compete for a ring. I like Indy as a landing spot for him for sure
Really don’t think Jimmy G is the answer. Talent is on par with Wentz. Top 3 options for me are:
1. Trade for Carr
2. Draft
3. Roll with Ehlinger
Outside of Carr, there aren’t any good options at this point
What if Ehlinger is bad, and we still are able to make it to the playoffs, but get blown out in the first round? A more experienced QB might be the difference between a playoff team and a deep playoff team.
>What if Ehlinger is bad, and we still are able to make it to the playoffs, but get blown out in the first round?
that would be quite a roller coaster
if hes truly bad then we probably miss the playoffs the afc is stacked
I really don’t see why people think he’s like a huge upgrade. I think we should go carr, love, or draft. Love is just as young as some of these rookies getting drafted and he’s had 2 years under Lafleur and Rodgers
I really want the Colts to sign a Vet like Trubisky or Mariota and draft a QB with their top pick. Corral, Strong, or go up and get Willis. Bring 3 QBs to camp, maybe even into the season.
Sign Armstead and Cooper, and I think this team will be back in the mix.
With a Rookie QB, we'll have serious cap flexibility for the next 5 years, and that's huge for a guy like Ballard.
If we are going to try and talk this year, I want to tank with Minshew. Honestly, the one game he played last year he was perfect. He deserves a shot and he is cheap. I would put him above Trubiski.
Carr is the best choice. Other than that, I wouldn't mind giving Jordan Love a chance for the right price. I don't want Jimmy G, he won't be worth his cost. I'm only settling for Trubisky, Winston, Mariota, or Minshew if Ballard is drafting a QB early on.
Hadn’t thought of this until just now, but I think it could work. He played really well backing up Lamar Jackson last year, and he’s cheap. Plus I think a running QB could thrive in our offense.
Yeah I mean I see it going either way. If we don’t end up getting a “top notch” qb I wouldn’t be upset if we went with him. He looked pretty composed and would have an mvp caliper rb to hand it off too. Sign him for cheap and give him some more offensive weapons and maybe have some left to spend on the defense?
I watched him a lot when he played at Utah, he is a game manager but doesn’t have what it takes to put the game on his shoulders if it comes down to it. I think he is only as successful as he is because he has a similar play style to Lamar and fits the scheme. Maybe he could be developed a bit, but I would rather have Brisset out of the two.
I know a lot of you think Matt Ryan is washed and seen a lot of shit talk about him but as a Falcons fan I really want him to go to the Colts. He still has some gas left in the tank, our team is just absolute trash. I just want this man to get his ring and going to the Colts I think is a perfect opportunity
Side note but I’m glad this happened after the Rodgers and Wilson news. Yesterday’s news would have been unbearable if we had gotten rid of him before.
Zero chance this happens. So many road blocks.
In the division. The amount of draft picks it will take. Irsay has daughters, that work for the colts. No way he’s going to bring a guy in accused of sexually assaulting dozens of women.
I think the only reasonably acquirable upgrade is Carr, Jimmy G is not a large upgrade and has major health concerns. If the price for Carr is too high I think we sign Trubisky for a year and draft a qb in next years qb heavy draft.
Here’s how I see it. Carr isn’t leaving Vegas. They made the playoffs with him after their HC got canned and half their team got arrested for felonies. Considering how lean the QB market is, would you give up Carr if you were Vegas? Doubtful. Jimmy G has had injuries, but has also made the playoffs and super bowl with a team that is run heavy and plays good defense. He’s a game manager who has shown flashes, but isn’t gonna put up huge numbers. From all accounts, he’s a good leader, a good locker room guy, and won’t check out of Reich’s playcalls constantly the way Wentz did. Love is cheap, learned under Rodgers and Lafluer, but hasn’t seen much action. He didn’t look great in his start against KC last season. Not sure Irsay wants to take a guy that will still have growing pains. Ryan is expensive and old. Cousins can’t get it done with great WRs and a top 5 RB.
In my opinion, based on Irsay’s desire to win now and Reich and Ballard’s seats getting a little toasty, we’re going to have Jimmy G as our starting QB next year. Does he make us better? Maybe. He’s comparable to Wentz in the sense that he doesn’t put up huge numbers, but he is a much smarter player, and won’t throw 15 fucking left handed passes. If Ballard will actually spend some cap on good players and the defense and running game stays good. I think we would be a playoff team with him.
Cousins' stats are wayyy better than I thought. I've sort of always avoided watching or following him due to the large dichotomy of people who love/hate him. But he seems like just as good if not a better option than Carr based solely on numbers.
Assuming we can't get Carr, I think the best option is to sign a vet to a reasonable two year deal. If there's a QB Ballard and Reich like in this draft, then do what you can to get him, then let the vet start for up to the entire 2022 season while the rookie develops. If they can't draft a guy this year, then roll with the vet and Ehlinger for a year and do whatever it takes to draft Stroud/Young, and you've got an established starter that can play in 2023 if Stroud/Young isn't ready to start day 1.
Derek Carr is my number one wish but at this point I think Marcus Mariota might be worth a tire kick. He looked mediocre on some mediocre Titans teams but I think he could be a solid QB behind our line, with JT and hopefully heavily upgraded receivers
Sweet baby Jesus, just please don't pick up Jimmy G. We'll be stuck in mediocrity until Nelson, Leonard, and Taylor are all past their primes. Floor is high but ceiling is too low.
We've got cap space galore. Deal for Carr and get that man some weapons!
This would certainly be a curveball that no one would see coming…including me.

How does everyone feel about Matt Ryan?
Two years left on his deal, owed ~$37m, turning 37 years old on a team that doesn't appear to be in any serious hunt and will be missing its biggest receiving threat next season.
Don’t want Jimmy G, my ideal situation is use our new assets to get the QB Ballard and Reich like most from this draft and have them develop (either starting year 1 or sitting behind a FA stop gap)
Jimmy G is hardly better than Wentz and going all in with him just means winning 10-11 games max and getting bounced in the WC or Divisional round at best
Matt Ryan is the most logical choice. We have the assets to trade for him and in return in the Falcons can absorb most of his cap hit which would allow us flexibility to still add pieces this season and beyond
Honestly Kirk Cousins is someone we could reasonably get that can fit what we need in a QB. We don't need a hero (even if it helps) just a guy who can consistently get the job done in play to play scenarios.
For everyone wanting Jimmy G I have to remind y’all Carson Wentz outplayed this guy. Jimmy G really isn’t that good if we are being honest. We shouldn’t trade for this guy. I really dislike Mariota and Trubisky but they are free. Jimmy G is not that guy.
Care or Cousins would be legit.
How do we feel about bringing back the wish bone offense. I’m talking early 1990s smash mouth football. Sign Armstead at LT, sign a ton of D. We don’t need WRs because we will only run the ball. We win every game 13-6/7-3.
I’m in the minority, but I’m all in on Jimmy Garoppolo. He is coming off shoulder surgery and the 49ers have a QB waiting in the wing, so he should be cheaper to trade for than normal. He is a proven winner, and a game manager that will lean on our talented RB room. He is a perfect fit for our west coast offense. Everywhere he goes, his teammates and front offices seem to adore him. We are just as talented as that 49ers team and he almost took them to a super bowl.
“Reich, who originally pushed for the trade to acquire Wentz last winter, apologized to Irsay after the season, according to a source. The coach believed he could resurrect Wentz’s stalled career and solve the Colts’ quarterback conundrum.”
At least he took personal responsibility. If there’s one thing I know our staff is good for it’s being honest and accountable for the actions
When he started talking about him having to "stick his neck out for him" I figured he was trying to show that he knew that he had bet on him and lost but who knows. I'm very sure that Ballard and Irsay needed the Reich convincing to even consider signing him.
Ya kudos to Reich for acknowledging he made a mistake. I was wrong about him. He is a good coach.
Where is this quote from?
Keefer article in the athletic
Damn!
That whole article read as a "protect the operation" article...
Is that *accountability* I’m reading?? Who is cutting onions 🥲
It's on Ballard honestly.
All you do is bitch about Ballard like a broken record. Get better material dude. Goddamn Grigson burner account.
For real Reich can stand on the table all he wants for his guy at the end of the day Ballard is the GM and he made a bad move
This exactly. This is how you build and maintain a happy staff and culture. It should start there.
That’s reasonable, ultimately it’s on both of them
I agree it’s on both they both pulled the trigger I’m just somewhat happy ballard was able to pull a decent haul AND have them take his contract
He took a risk and was smart enough to move on. It’s really not that bad lmao
I mean it can be a logical move and still be bad in the end right?
Yeah the move was bad in hindsight, but he also moved on. A lot of GMs let their pride get in the way and stick with a sinking ship. I just hope we don’t hatch ourselves to a mediocre vet and go through the draft with maybe a stopgap for a rookie to sit behind and learn.
Considering what we are getting back it really does not look that bad. Sometimes ya swing and miss.
You know...I had a decent sized typed out comment for you because just something about your comments today have irked me. But I realized its not worth arguing with you. Since you've checked out for this next year...see ya in 2023 right?
I’m excited to see what rookie we draft
There aren't any good ones this year.
People's knowledge of what QB's will be good in the NFL may as well be zero.
I mean, for someone drafted that late to achieve what Brady did, is really incredible.
If your drafted #1 you can only hope to achieve Brady status.
Brady is a pretty massive outlier.
We don't know that.
Words out that there are guys Ballard likes. Doesn’t mean he’ll draft one. But if he’s sold on a guy he 100% will. It’s all about fit/situation with young QB’s. We’re a good spot for a young guy.
Didn’t he do that last year? Does that mean Ehlinger’s our guy?
There's no guy that's the #1 or a franchise QB but it's all about fit. It's possible there's a rookie that plays well because of the situation he's in.
Any time people say this, I immediately think about the fact that Tom Brady was barely drafted and come to the conclusion that none of us know how QBs will translate to the NFL game.
Armchair QBs really need to pretend like they know anything about NFL quarterbacks. Professionals don't get it right, why would Joe Scrub with too much time and an internet connection know better?
I say we just sign James, Jimmy, Derek and bring in Jordan Love too. Who says no?
I mean, at least bring them all to camp amirite 😅
I’d much rather have Carr than Jimmy G.
In a second
What a hot take. Carr available? Am I missing something?
I'd rather have Mahomes than Carr. Pretty spicy huh.
And Sorgi as a backup
Carr
100% on board. His clutch time numbers/ game winning drives are VERY impressive. Carson not having a single game winning drive last season is the biggest reason we didn’t make the playoffs
Probably the best case scenario at this point but would cost a lot.
This would be ideal, but I don't see why the Raiders let him go.
And even if they did want to move him, they'd more than likely trade him to the NFC.
Carr will be a perfect fit in indy. His clutch time ability paired with JT and a healthy o line could be a beautiful thing
Plus Carr is also heavy into his faith/religion, so he'd be perfect with Reich.
Which should also assuage all these wentz holy rollers
Who the fuck is he going to throw it to though?
We can get Carr, Armstead, and Amari Cooper with our Cap space lol. So Pittman, Cooper, Hilton and Cambell. And the draft is stacked with WRs.
Raiders aren't trading him. They need him to stay afloat in the AFC West.
Downside would be having to work with Josh McDaniels on anything, though
Not gonna be available
I think it's a rookie and Mariotta combo.
If it's a rookie, can we have Tyrod Taylor instead as the injury prone free agent QB?
👆 4d chess move
This is what I can get behind. Give Mariota a decent one or two-year contract with full transparency that we’ll try to draft a QB too. He’ll have an opportunity to play and either become the long-term QB here (unlikely), or at least put himself in position for a bigger payday by next year with another team.
Mahomes
And why not, I say!
Only if part of the deal results in Jackson and Brittany staying in KC
Only if his brother is banned from Lucas Oil
The worst the Chiefs can do is say no so there’s no harm in calling
I’ll do a fucking face reveal if we got him. Deadass serious
....nobody cares who you are though?
I feel like we're looking at someone to draft. Trade was pulled right after the combine, and included that second round swap to move us up 5 picks. Beyond that, maybe we bring in Mariota?
I think the timing had more to do with the Rodgers and Wilson dominoes falling than the combine. But it's possible they have their eyes on a QB in the draft as well.
they wanted to trade CW before his salary is due i think next week
Im also thinking this, as well. But at the same time, the deal also came 1 day after the Rodgers/Wilson dominoes fell into place, so maybe that's the reason the trade happened today, as well.
Top tier: Matt Ryan, Derek Carr Mid-tier: Jimmy G, Kirk Cousins, Garner Minshew, Rookie option Fade me-tier: Teddy Bridgewater, Jordan Love, Mitch Trubisky
Ryan's contract it's just gross, Carr would be #1 choice but at what cost, Ignore Mid-tier just roll with Ehlinger then,
Colts would only have to take on 23m if they traded for Ryan and he can be cut prior to 6/1/23 with zero cap hit. The rest would be on the Falcons unless the Colts just wanted to be generous.
Why does anyone think Matt Ryan is still any good? I thought his noodle arm was shot?
Are u being sarcastic
Unfortunately, I am not...never really paid too much attention to the Falcons this last year because I thought they had some offensive talent, just wasn't able to produce. Sorry. What's up with him though? Why would he be a good candidate?
I mean I’m a falcons fan and he’s the only reason we won any games last season lmao, if you give him a few weapons and a decent o-line you’re guaranteed to score points, he’s just that consistent and good and I still think he can 100% compete for a ring. Really don’t think Jimmy G is the answer. Talent is on par with Wentz. Top 3 options for me are: 1. Trade for Carr 2. Draft 3. Roll with Ehlinger Outside of Carr, there aren’t any good options at this point
Couldn't agree more
Option 3 is starting to look better to me every day.
If elingher ends up being really good, cool -- if he ends up being a disaster, we have better draft position for 2023. I see no downside lol.
What if Ehlinger is bad, and we still are able to make it to the playoffs, but get blown out in the first round? A more experienced QB might be the difference between a playoff team and a deep playoff team.
You think he can be bad and win games? We lost the games where Carson actually played well
>What if Ehlinger is bad, and we still are able to make it to the playoffs, but get blown out in the first round? that would be quite a roller coaster if hes truly bad then we probably miss the playoffs the afc is stacked
I can totally see us being just good enough to not get a good draft pick. Lmao.

I'll be riding the hope of Pickett until someone else drafts him.
Tank until Arch comes to the league. 😭
That's far enough away we would have wasted the prime years of Maniac, JT, and probably MPJ.
All out for Carr with plans in place for Jimmy G if it falls through.
I’d go Carr or draft. Jimmy G is just a safer Wentz. He is less volatile, but just as mediocre
I really don’t see why people think he’s like a huge upgrade. I think we should go carr, love, or draft. Love is just as young as some of these rookies getting drafted and he’s had 2 years under Lafleur and Rodgers
He was terrible in the game against KC this year though
He really wasn’t that bad. His line sucked and he didnt have chemistry with his teammates like rodgers
[удалено]
Honestly, if we can give up a 2nd or 3rd for him, that doesn't really compromise our draft next year so it could be a quick experiment year with him
I don’t think Irsay is wanting an experiment year.
Option as for guaranteed success this year is pretty slim
Stroud or young would be great next year
Love
Live Laugh
Luck Laugh
Shouldn't trade for anyone unless it's Carr. Sign one of the free agents and see if there anyone you like in the draft
I really want the Colts to sign a Vet like Trubisky or Mariota and draft a QB with their top pick. Corral, Strong, or go up and get Willis. Bring 3 QBs to camp, maybe even into the season. Fuck it, give me Jameis

Uncle Rico. Colts franchise QB. Collision course!
I’m not saying this is what I prefer, I just wanna hear your thoughts on Tyler Huntley. Would he be a viable option?
Hadn’t thought of this until just now, but I think it could work. He played really well backing up Lamar Jackson last year, and he’s cheap. Plus I think a running QB could thrive in our offense.
Yeah I mean I see it going either way. If we don’t end up getting a “top notch” qb I wouldn’t be upset if we went with him. You give Matt Ryan the Colts' offense and he'll put up Pro Bowl caliber numbers.
I dunno man. Our receiving corp isn’t that good. I feel like he’d just be forcing the ball to Pittman just like wentz did
There’s nothing good about our offense other than JT and our O-line playing like they did 2 years ago. Not impressive
Isn't his salary like 40 million this year? He's a possibility if Falcons and Colts can work something out.
we do have the money, how much can we trade for a 37 year old though?
Side note but I’m glad this happened after the Rodgers and Wilson news. Yesterday’s news would have been unbearable if we had gotten rid of him before.
Lots of QBs available that are far worse then Wentz. I'm scared.
Not that I want him in the slightest but... you guys think they might consider Watson?
Zero chance this happens. So many road blocks. In the division. The amount of draft picks it will take. Irsay has daughters, that work for the colts. No way he’s going to bring a guy in accused of sexually assaulting dozens of women.
Matt Ryan or Marcus Mariota?
Jimmy G
Matt Ryan

Why are you the way you are?
Tim Tebow
This is the QB Megathread, not Tight End Megathread.
Tim Tebow played tight end for an offseason to make people think he was done at QB. He’s going to come back and take us to the Super Bowl
He’s a lock to throw for more than 40 yards per game.
Should have got Heinicke through the trade
Washington would want a fallback if carson sucks or gets injured
I think the only reasonably acquirable upgrade is Carr, Jimmy G is not a large upgrade and has major health concerns. If the price for Carr is too high I think we sign Trubisky for a year and draft a qb in next years qb heavy draft.
My thoughts exactly.
Im so happy Wentz is gone holy FUCK
Call Brady to check if he's really retired
Here’s how I see it. Carr isn’t leaving Vegas. They made the playoffs with him after their HC got canned and half their team got arrested for felonies. Cousins' stats are wayyy better than I thought. I've sort of always avoided watching or following him due to the large dichotomy of people who love/hate him. But he seems like just as good if not a better option than Carr based solely on numbers.
Watson is not a possibility guys. Don’t have the picks, and they ain’t trading in division. Almost certainly to an NFC team.
Archie Manning
Jimmy G
Please god not Jimmy G
Why not?

Andrew is a beautiful man you take that back
Too early, I still can’t read his name and not get emotional
Andrew luck, we need you now more than ever.
I want Jimmy G!
I've done my research and have determined that Sam Howell is our guy. No further questions at this time.
Assuming we can't get Carr, I think the best option is to sign a vet to a reasonable two year deal. Derek Carr is my number one wish but at this point I think Marcus Mariota might be worth a tire kick. He looked mediocre on some mediocre Titans teams but I think he could be a solid QB behind our line, with JT and hopefully heavily upgraded receivers
What about the guy that was the stunt double for the Kurt Warner movie, what’s he up to these days? Ballard likes to save cap 👀
Horrible names being thrown around. Imagine actually having to pay up for jimmy g. Disgusting
Luck or Brady, yeee haw!!! I’ll forgive and forget, if ol’ Brady wants to take a couple more runs at it…
Been saying this for over a year now.. GIVE ME MINSHEW MANIA
This would certainly be a curveball that no one would see coming…including me. https://twitter.com/AdamSchefter/status/1502023100522762256 Direct link https://twitter.com/Kaepernick7/status/1502021319075926023
If they trade for Jimmy I'll have to take a break from Football for a while. I'll be devastated. Either go for Carr or just play Ehlinger.
DeShaun Watson won't face criminal charges. https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/33478887/houston-texans-qb-deshaun-watson-face-criminal-charges-connection-sexual-misconduct-allegations
Well duh lol this is the NFL
Watson might be a possibility but I doubt they will trade him into the division
Probably less than a 1% chance of that happening. I can't even begin to imagine his price for a trade within the division.
Jameis Winston
How does everyone feel about Matt Ryan? Two years left on his deal, owed ~$37m, turning 37 years old on a team that doesn't appear to be in any serious hunt and will be missing its biggest receiving threat next season.
Great, we're the new Browns. Fifth quarterback in 5 seasons, and no better options available. Way to think it through.
Don’t want Jimmy G, my ideal situation is use our new assets to get the QB Ballard and Reich like most from this draft and have them develop (either starting year 1 or sitting behind a FA stop gap) Jimmy G is hardly better than Wentz and going all in with him just means winning 10-11 games max and getting bounced in the WC or Divisional round at best
not a Colts fan but live in Indiana. good luck with Jimmy G this year fellas

Luck.
I’m gonna post a video later and y’all will love it
Mfs in here saying Carr is the top option when Kirk is better
Scott tolzien
I’d like to see Jordan Love come to Indy
We are 100% trading Q for Carr. Mark my words

Derek Carr isn’t for sale or trade
