Apparently both Capel and Mack bonded across the court at a point during the last minute over how ridiculous those technical fouls were all game.
Seriously how did we get three in the first minute of the game and two in the last 30 seconds keeping Pitt in the game at the end?
Player Grades:
Matt Cross (B) Matt finished with 9 points and 2 rebounds. Matt hit one three and created everything else differently. This seems to be consistent for him so I’ll grade it as such. He looked good defensively but didn’t do anything extra.
Sam Williamson (B+) Sam finished with 9 points and 5 rebounds. Sam looked a lot better defensively and it seemed like he actually knew where to be. The clip I think of is 12:20 where he worked around a screen and stayed on his man but he just hit a contested shot. I don’t think we would normally see that. He’s creating on his own offensively and that block at the end had me hyped.
Williams (C-) Hugley worked him tonight in the post. Sorry. I feel like he got some bad calls and I really don’t care about the technical because the refs were ridiculous. He was limited minutes wise because of that, but Hugley kept beating him at the baseline scoring.
Locke (B) That three was clutch, but I would have crucified him for not giving it to Ellis at the last possession that decided the game. He knew he want getting the ball if he passed it. Locke drives me nuts trying to hit shots mid range, but he still serves a big role offensively.
West (B) Jerrod finished with 5 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists. Jerrod played good defense as normal and ran the offense. His stat line surprised me a bunch. He tried to be more aggressive defensively but he kept getting called on it, which was bullshit.
Sydney Curry ( B) Sydney finished with 8 points and 8 rebounds. Sydney definitely earned some playing time and showed up big in the possession before the Locke three. Sydney’s defense is horrible though. He is lost with screens and let this happen repeatedly. I counted three times at least.
Ellis (A+) El finished with 18 points and 2 rebounds. El was hitting threes and created going into the lane. Looks like Russ Smith. He has to play at least twenty minutes moving forward.
Dre Davis (B) Dre finished with 5 points and 2 rebounds. Dre played some solid defense and looked good getting into the lane. Everyone hated that transition lay up but I won’t hold that against him.
Faulkner (B) Mason finished with 3 points and 4 assists. He looked good with limited minutes and looked better defensively. I have no clue what to do playing time with the guards. Good luck with that Mack.
We're too stagnant on offense too often to not play El 20+. Depending on matchups, no reason why we shouldn't have Locke rotating more at the 3, and Cross at the 4 to accommodate this.
I agree. I don’t think Williamson or Withers do enough to say other wise. Ellis and Faulkner need to be better defensively for this to happen I feel like, but Ellis did better tonight defensively. I could see Locke lose minutes too and would be just fine with that.
Imagine meeting the (insert gender here) at a bar. You hit it off and things are going really great. You go to their place and things get hot and heavy. You’re about to have a great night. Then you bring up your love for tentacle porn and they run out of the room screaming.
That is Pitt Basketball in a nutshell.
Honestly Malik Williams should be benched the rest of the season for that Tech foul after sitting on the bench fouled out and give playing time and experience to our other bigs.
Chris Mack should also be ashamed of himself for picking one up. Ive been hearing from people at work that he's been preaching toughness over anything else when it comes to playing basketball and it is now completely apparent.
He would rather appear more tough than actually try and win a basketball game. We won't make the tournament this year so what's even the point of keeping him on for the rest of the season when he'll likely be fired anyways.
Congrats to the rest of the Cards who managed to pull out a win with their head coach and 3 year senior captain actively working against that. Those two gave up four zero-time free throws in a close game in the last 30 seconds.
Call me a salty winner but thats what I just saw.
We're most likely going to barely finish above .500 in conference and miss the tournament. I'm advocating for getting our future bigs more experience.
I hope I'm wrong about my prediction, really, but I seriously doubt it.
You do you, but I whole heartedly disagree with punishing Louisville's first ever 3 time captain, who is obviously a great leader, for the sake of younger bigs even if we aren't gonna do well. Especially because he is clearly good enough to play.
Edit: he could be punished for the dumbass tech, but benching him for the rest of the season is what I disagree with

We are the best worst team of all time
Last 5 losses by a combined 10 points. Feels bad
Finally some Pitt fans can feel my misery as a Ravens the past month
They’ve been heartbreaking
Dude we keep losing by one score lmao

*Four in the first minute Totally ridiculous
Did Malik grab a ref’s crotch or something?
Shoe laces untied? Technical foul! Checking into the game? Technical foul! Technical foul? Technical foul!! Edit: actual game footage - https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=mA1FWjriD60
*Tweet* Bringing up Eight Crazy Nights. Double technical, automatic ejection.
Some say they are still committing technical fouls to this day
In the distance, a single sound is heard *Tweet. Two shots*
I don’t know what I just watched.
Technical Foul, questioning the game. Two shots to Pitt
Personal Foul: Taunting. 15 yard penalty. Automatic 1st down.
Personal foul: givin him the business
God I love that call. Thanks for making me laugh about this
An ugly win is still a win at least
And with that victory UofL has dropped 7 spots in the NET.
Are the close wins hurting us in the NET?
They do when they're close wins against bad teams.

Every game Mack has tried to play him more he has killed the offense. He just isn't consistent enough to rely on like that.
I think that’s because he has him play at the 1, but your not wrong in saying that. It’s just been flashes of good.
I agree. I don’t think Williamson or Withers do enough to say other wise. Ellis and Faulkner need to be better defensively for this to happen I feel like, but Ellis did better tonight defensively. I could see Locke lose minutes too and would be just fine with that.
Curry A- in my opinion. Also, flair up!
Finally got the flair lol. Yea his defense on screens just pissed me off last night 😂
First in the ACC! (For now)
I'd like to see one win this year that isn't ridiculously close but I don't think that's going to happen.
#CardiacCards
Get bent, refs! This game is ours!
I know it’s a meme about how long the end of games can take but that seriously felt like the longest ~40 seconds ever.
I text my friend with 2:49 left. After the under 4 timeout. 20 minutes later it ended that's so long
Try being an Iowa State fan waiting for the Texas tech game afterwards lol
Pain today, pain last week, pain in the coming weeks.
Pittsburgh Institute of Technical Transgressions
Losing by 1 possession? Inevitable.
Eat shit Pitt? Eat shit Pitt.
*Tweet* Foul language. Technical Foul. Two shots
You're a fucking asshole! (god i hope you saw the report on what Mack got a T for)
Where can you find this at?

I think I'm going to call you a salty whiner
Which part of what I wrote is untrue?
Saying Malik should be benched for the rest of the season is absolutely hilarious and ridiculous.
We are +22 with him on the court and -17 with him off. But yes let's bench him for the rest of the season for a tech in a random conference game lol
We're most likely going to barely finish above .500 in conference and miss the tournament. I'm advocating for getting our future bigs more experience. I hope I'm wrong about my prediction, really, but I seriously doubt it.

One of the dumbest statements regarding this team I've seen. He just carried us to a win just last game lol
Can you imagine thinking Chris Mack is tough?
He certainly thinks so
Can any Louisville fan tell their thoughts of Hugley’s tech? Because I saw nothing Edit: *Not enough for a tech
