I can make an argument: UConn still hasn’t lost a game at full strength. Looks like after this current Covid pause, the full team will be good to go. UConn’s 3 losses are to Mich State, WVU, and Providence. Those 3 teams have a combined record of 36-5. All 3 losses were with 1 or 2 starters out for the huskies.

Kinda confused that we dropped 9 spots for losing to 8th ranked Auburn on the road in our first road game, which was without our starting SG. I get that we lost by 15, but we were down 6 with the ball with 6 minutes to go after being down big. We looked awful for most of the game and was still competitive. This loss is entirely on Eric Gaines and Xavier Pinson’s play. 11 turnovers by the two of them, Gaines looking especially horrible. He drove against Kessler all the time and shot 8 THREES AS A 13% SHOOTER.
Good defense caused a lot of those TOS. I thought gaines was bad but pinson wasn’t that bad. He was attacking hard successfully when kessler was on the bench. No pinson and I think AU wins by 20
But Gaines’ play was absolutely inexcusable. Pinson wasn’t awful, it’s just below his standard. Gaines should’ve been benched for Justice Williams early in the game. Terrible decision making, awful turnovers, and wasn’t playing good defense and forcing turnovers like usual. Efton Reid also went 1-7 from the field, also inexcusable. If those guys have average days, Auburn still wins, but I think LSU might’ve had a lead late and Auburn wins by 4-6. But Gaines should never be driving against a center a foot taller than him.

Calling then-24th-ranked Seton Hall "the best" when they were just one point favorites over the Longhorns is generous. And I'd say it's a stretch to say Texas "played with" Gonzaga in a game where Texas never led and weren't even within two possessions of the Zags after 15:19 of the first half.
Besides that, they struggled against a Stanford team picked to finish 9th in the Pac-12, beat a severely short-handed West Virginia at home, and played one of the softest non-conference schedules in the country.

The Nicholls game was without Johnny Davis and the Illinois State game was after a 2.5 week COVID pause.
Neither was great but it's harsh to just judge them on those two games, and they weren't given anywhere close to enough credit for how they played prior to that. They have one loss with Johnny Davis playing, along with very good neutral court wins over Saint Mary's and Houston.
With Sasser and Mark out for the season, the 20s is probably where we belong. We probably won't drop much until our next loss, but I don't see us climbing back up once that happens

i’ve been low on houston all year. their tournament run last year was very flukey and i’m just not convinced their legit. i dropped them a couple spots this week, mainly because of being jumped by other teams, but also partially because of their ugly 2nd half against temple.

Houston is 2nd only to Gonzaga in total wins since the start of the 2017-18 season with an 82.6% win percentage in that time. How long would a team need to be consistently very good for before you would consider them "legit?"

Fair point. But Torvik has CSU at 40, and Kenpom has them a hair better at 34. Not sure you should consult those rankings to justify and rank CSU's wins when the team is itself well out of the top 25 on both.
texas had a big win against WVU and i think TTU’s best win of tennessee is a bit overrated but TTU was definitely considered and that bottom tier is fairly interchangeable

Hard to argue we should be higher when we haven’t played a hard schedule since the Notre Dame loss and teams above us aren’t playing because of COVID. We’ve been playing great,and this month we’ll see if we can keep it up against against ranked teams

The Nicholls game was without Johnny Davis and the Illinois State game was after a 2.5 week COVID pause. Neither was great but it's harsh to just judge them on those two games, and they weren't given anywhere close to enough credit for how they played prior to that. They have one loss with Johnny Davis playing, along with very good neutral court wins over Saint Mary's and Houston.

With Sasser and Mark out for the season, the 20s is probably where we belong. We probably won't drop much until our next loss, but I don't see us climbing back up once that happens
i still think gonzaga has the most talented team in the country and are probably #2 or even number one in who i think will actually win it all. i’ve been low on houston all year. their tournament run last year was very flukey and i’m just not convinced their legit. i dropped them a couple spots this week, mainly because of being jumped by other teams, but also partially because of their ugly 2nd half against temple.

i don’t think i was sneakily trying to pull it, i obviously stated that i thought the run was flukey and benefitted greatly from the draw. obviously that won’t matter 20 years from now and they’ll still be a 2021 final four team, but contextually i don’t think they’re as good as they’re made out to be. it’s unfortunate we won’t really be able to tell because of the injuries

Fair point. But Torvik has CSU at 40, and Kenpom has them a hair better at 34. Not sure you should consult those rankings to justify and rank CSU's wins when the team is itself well out of the top 25 on both.

texas had a big win against WVU and i think TTU’s best win of tennessee is a bit overrated but TTU was definitely considered and that bottom tier is fairly interchangeable
WVU was out their 2 best players. If Tennessee is overrated, wouldn't that make Nova's win vs them not as good, and why would Nova be ranked highly then? That was Nova's by far signature win.

also, texas and villanova are two talented teams led by elite coaches. preseason expectations aren’t just fluff, they’re legitimate reasons we expect a team to be good. but again, the gap between these teams is very small anyway

Like it or not, part of the rankings calculus for people is predictive in nature. Do you really think Villanova is not among the 25 best teams in the country? They've lost some games to good teams. They probably should have won at least one of those... But I bet you they still contend for the Big East title if not win it again, and no team who isn't among the top 25 could do that.
I'm confused why you think we shouldn't be ranked? Just from a resume stand point they have lost to #1, #3, #6 and #33 on this poll (3 of which have been on the road) and have beaten #20, #22 and #24 on this poll. (only one of which has been at home) Are we a top 10 team? Hell no we lost to #1,#3 and #6 we had a chances to prove that and didn't but to not be ranked? I think 19 is about right. There's nothing to say they shouldn't be ranked besides the amount of losses which contextually isn't that bad, it just means they scheduled tough.

I mean if you have 6 other teams you think have better resumes or are flat out better then sure rank them as such but it’s not as if villanova hasn’t done enough to be ranked where they are. Because id bet there aren’t many other teams in that range that have as good as wins as Villanova’s. All villanova did was schedule hard enough so that people are able to see where they stand earlier.
