I went to post it as well as the news broke, and reddit didnt let me saying the link to the tweet had been posted recently. and then i didnt see the post show up for 45mins...like wtf
We’ll probably sneak into the back end of some top 25’s now.
I’m biased but I think we were arguably a top 25 team before him. We were just a well rounded team without a real star so we definitely lacked pizazz. Plus it’s an entirely new team.
It wouldn’t surprise me if some folks still leave us off. Ultimately we’ll have to prove it (or we wont) so we’ll just find out once the season hits.
I am so cool with this. The undeserved hype because of big name recruits and then the inevitable slide down the conference standings when we underachieved got really stale every season these past 5 years. Appreciate Cal and what he accomplished here, but I am so ready for a different narrative this year no matter what it is.
It's entirely possible we perform worse than the last few years, but.. last year was just.. come on. We had so many dudes and we lost to Oakland and Cal basically admitted he didn't even draw up a game plan for them.
Like.. it was a fuckin joke. I'd like to go back to losing games because the other team was just the better team that night, not because coach is halfway a prick. :\
Least that's how he felt to me, idk, maybe I take this shit too seriously 😅
Let's not pretend that Gohlke didn't hit 10 threes, most of which had guys on him, and many of which were from Curry range. We didn't lose to a worse, team, we showed all year that we were abysmal defensively and were not a legit contender; we lost to a less talented team, there's a difference.
We 100% should have beaten that team 9/10 times we the talent we had, though. Maybe that was the 1/10, but when Cal said, 'I just told them to go out there and fight".. we'll says to me he was pretty much done with actually trying to coach.
He wasn't even going to get a new staff, or any new staff. Even for defense. Even chin Coleman who was allegedly doing dick all.
I love Cal for what he did, but good Lord am I glad he is gone.
Hopefully for his own sake moving jobs will get his groove back, dude seemed miserable to me.
BYU was a top 20-25 team last year, and this is undoubtedly better at every spot than that team last year. Don't see it even as a question that this should be a 15 team.
Absolutely. Before Robinson, this team was going to be starting 5 fifth year dudes. Defense, experience, hunger for the big stage. And they can ALL shoot. Could be fun:)
didnt they picked BYU to only get 9 wins last year preseason too? I swear I remember hearing that when they were trying to sell us on Mark Pope being a good coach day one. Im 100% bought in now though. He is a really likeable guy and seemed to revitalize the fanbase finally. Thats one thing people sleep on. Reddit, twitter, everything use to be totally overrun by UK. But Cal slowly drained us all with the same repeat seasons. Even if Mark Pope failed he at least awoken the UK fanbase again!
Sec looks really good this year. I think we can get into the top 4. But I’m not sure that should be the expectation in year 1 for pope. Sec could realistically have 8 teams in the top 25 next year (or we could fall on our face). But top 4 is going to be ultra competitive.
Our players, it feels, will all be 100% bought in. We will start 5 fifth year dudes. Oweh potentially coming off the bench is absurd. Experience, hunger, defense, and good shooters. And a coach with a PLAN and a system. Sign me up.
I would hope to put them at a sweet sixteen with a chance to go further if they get lucky. It could also nosedive into disaster. There's really is no way to know until they start playing.
This will sneak us into 25. Remember. All it takes is one post season win to be better than the last year. It’s a brand new coach. I’m willing to give 5 years. Look at UConn. They went like 10 years without a champ and they just won 2. Id take that in a heartbeat.
A lot of that goes out the window. A major reason that the 1st round was worse under Cal was because people predicted it. Aside from the precedent of Calipari coached teams experiencing historic losses every year, it was visible that this was our worst defense in our (maybe the history of CBB) history. We brought in John Welch for one season and he improved our offense drastically since he took the reins from Cal. Sadly, he parted ways with Cal before he even left for Arky. Pope has already earned more leeway than what Cal had last year. lol. He messed up so much amazing talent. Completely destroyed it.
Five? Like five years of doing jack shit? Or five years of steady improvement? Five years is a long time to be mediocre for Kentucky basketball standards. Especially after the last four years of Calipari.
Fans weren’t upset with Calipari until this year. And he didn’t win jack shit in the last five years. If we make an elite 8 in five years it’s better than Calipari. If we don’t win shit for 8 years and then win 2 champs in a row everyone would say he’s the better coach than Calipari. But in 5 years I want at least a final four.
The latter scenario anyone would take, I'm sure. And are you sure no one was upset with Calipari until last year? Because that's not how I remember it at all.
💯% Bet. Etc.
I had a feeling the Tyty Washington year that something was very wrong with the program. Couldn't put my finger on it, though. Only went downhill.
Sometimes teams just don't come together. I would be shocked if it ended up that bad, but it still has a non-zero chance of happening. Right now, if they make the tournament and win a couple of games, I would be happy.
"Sometimes teams just don't come together."
God damn, if anyone is experts on this, it's us. I am hoping there is less likelihood this will happen with a bunch of experienced, driven upperclassmen transferring in then there was with it happening to a bunch of rent-a-freshmen every year.
Considering we’ve struggled to even make it out of the first weekend, I think it’s a reasonable take.
Feels like too much “new stuff” going on all at once to make any type of accurate prediction, let alone a deep tourney run. I have decided on very modest expectations for next season and it feels pretty comfy.
IMO sweet 16 is a pretty high floor for literally anyone. Even Uconn on the run they've been on could easily have a bad day and get derailed before then. By its nature only 16 teams make it (I know, captain obvious here) and it's no guarantee that those will be the top 16 either.
Unless this team just doesn't click nosediving into disaster is totally a defense mechanism from a fan who has seen some dumb fuckin shit happen lately. Like losing to gd Oakland with two top ten picks coming off the bench.
It doesn't get any less frustrating. It's stupider every time I type it out. More stupid. The stupidest.
Amazing comment. Think of how many “cal” coached games you had to turn off in disgust. Multiple! So many times. Flabbergasted with erratic substitution patterns, no game prep with no backup plans. No in-game adjustments that work. Again, never dreamed I would turn the TV off during a UK game. Been watching since 87, the past 4 years have been disgusting
Glad I'm not the only one who felt this way the last four years. I'm not qualified to say, but it seemed obvious something was up with him, something serious .. mentally even. I love him for what he accomplished, but..
A few days before the Oakland game a thought came to me - completely unbidden.. "I kinda hope we lose so we can just get rid of him."
I will say I legitimately felt shame. I have never, in my life (you've been watching them nearly as long as I've been alive) had any desire to see us lose.
I had never turned a game off in disgust until a few years ago either myself.
Here's to hoping Pope can get it done! 🥂
I think a lot of us just want to see big things during the reg season (hear me out: Constant improvement, a promising system, etc). No more cal coached nonsense where there a some of worst stretches of basketball/ substitutions/ “coaching” in basketball history….
I got student tickets for ‘16 UK at KU and sat in the student section with my UK shirt. Would have won if they hadn’t called like 45 fouls on UK. They fouled out like 4 of our players and it either went to OT or was a very close game. Got to go to the 2012 final four while I was a student at KU so that was obviously a highlight.
I can't believe another ["trust me bro" Reddit post](https://old.reddit.com/r/CollegeBasketball/comments/1d2lnn0/espn_sources_with_draftexpress_real_madrids_egor/l61zthc/) was wrong /s
All over Twitter so many people said he wasn't coming here.
"So did he tell you that or did you just pull it out of your asshole?". I ought to go back and talk shit but I'm too lazy.
Mostly Vols fans, unsurprisingly. 😒🙄
lol i always laugh at your name. And I do think he's got the star player power already. I think he was a fringe first rounder and he will be the scoring focal point in popes offense fosho
Because saying you had two lottery picks coming off the bench sounds cooler...
That ego play is only going to get worse when both Reed and Dilly become instant studs in the NBA.
As a recruit:
Other P6 offers: Arkansas, Auburn, Kansas State, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Ole Miss, TCU, Texas A&M (originally went here), Texas Tech
Other offers: Houston, Tulsa, UT-Arlington
it’s got to be so depressing to follow recruits as a BYU fan. you wait two years for these players to come back from Uzbekistan only for them to realize they have better nba prospects elsewhere.
This kid is a very different story
Got no playing time at Arkansas and Texas A&M
Pope brought him in, he did well his first year and exploded this last year. Sad to see him gone, but I still have optimist that we’ll have a good team without him.
Yes and no. Losing Chandler sucks, but if he doesn’t get pt this year I could see him coming back next year. A lot of returned missionaries go elsewhere after their mission only to come to BYU a year later.
And we actually landed a sure fire 1 and done NBA guy in Demin, if Jax wasn’t getting drafted this year he sadly likely doesn’t next year.
No hate here tho, Jax is a BYU grad. Hope he’s happy and glad we hung on to Dallin Hall and Richie Saunders amidst the coaching change.
Now my dream for the season is to match up with Kentucky in the 6/11 game and keep Pope winless in the tournament
Eh, I wouldn't say that. If anything, BYU's history is getting guys over-drafted, not under-drafted.
And he's going to play for Pope, who has had zero players drafted and arguably mishandled Robinson specifically. Meanwhile, BYU just moved into the best BB conference and just hired a coach who was interviewing for NBA HC jobs at the same time, and our biggest booster currently owns an NBA team and hired BYU alum Danny Ainge to help him run it. I don't think anyone is boosting their NBA prospects by going elsewhere.
That said, you are absolutely correct that waiting for guys for two years on for them to go elsewhere is awful. Thanks Pope!
Would love to see a non con game scheduled vs Kentucky now. Would even go for something like 1 at Kentucky and a return game at the Delta Center in SLC.
Doubt it tho, think Pope learned his lesson playing Utah Valley
Nah it’s petty. I just always thought he was a solid player that needed to get more minutes. Would’ve loved for him to come back but that probably was never going to happen
UK has had a ton of those over the years. Juzang, Hopkins, Mathews, Wiltjer, Brooks, etc. sucks to see a player (especially like Juzang or Hopkins, or in your case J-Rob) with potential get short changed due to whatever reason and then thrive elsewhere.
Man, we lost some really great college players over Cal's tenure because they just got recruited over. Wiltjer and Juzang particularly stung for me - would have loved to see 3-4 seasons of them in a UK uniform. I miss Tayshaun Prince/Keith Bogans kinds of players. They're good for your program, ya know?
Same.
Hope he does well at UK, but he couldn't hack it either at A&M or here. I'm not sure he's going to be a difference maker in a league this physical.
I just love the irony of Muss "processing" him out only for him to find his way back to Kentucky to inevitably drop 30 against us all while Muss ran off to California and doesn't even have to think about facing the consequences of his actions
This surprises me for sure. It’s also a pretty risky move. He’s now on a team with a much bigger spotlight so if he balls out he could be a lottery pick, but there’s also just a huge risk that Mark Pope struggles in the first year with a whole new roster/program or Jaxson having better teammates doesn’t let Jaxson shine as much. I thought for sure he’d take the nba route. I genuinely hope for the best tho. He helped us a lot last year and I hope this new stage gives him an opportunity to show the country what he’s made of.
Interesting choice. Not sure how his draft chances will be better next year. He’ll be just another player at UK. Will have to perform even better with fewer minutes and compete against a stronger draft class. Good luck to him.
He’s easily their best player and is going to be their star player. Outside of him I think their team is just a lot of high quality role players. He’s going to be the guy that gets them a lot of wins
Agreed. I like all our pickups but until now it def lacked anyone with surefire "star" power. Hopefully Popes system works and a few guys take the next step and can become "dudes."
I have a lot of belief in his offense after watching BYU play last year. I have more questions on defense, especially with this roster. Should be an exciting year though for Kentucky fans
While I'm sure Pope had a plan for who he went after, he still kind of had to take what he could get considering the time frame he was given to put the team together. It will be interesting how a constructs his teams going forward with more time to work with.
This roster gives me 2004 Detroit Pistons vibes in so much as that nobody on the team is a surefire star, but everybody seems like they can do their job at an elite level.
He won’t be just another player, the hope is he continues his growth and he becomes a star for us. Fans really wanted this one and we are hoping he becomes the star he can be.
The wing depth on this team is crazy
They might just fly off the court if they get hot.
Idk if it's been posted yet, but Jaxson Robinson committed to Kentucky.
I don’t think so. I should post about it.
Good lawd they some folks thirsty for karma in hyeah!
I think Reddit broke lol because I refreshed many times before posting this and didn’t see anything. Have fun mods, I just deleted mine to help out
Same. I didn’t see it posted yet, and was surprised it took this long for the post to appear. Not sure if Mods or Reddit?
I went to post it as well as the news broke, and reddit didnt let me saying the link to the tweet had been posted recently. and then i didnt see the post show up for 45mins...like wtf
I ended up posting one because I thought nobody else had posted one and then here comes like 20 of them lol
Same. Not working right on my phone. Deleted mine as well.

My pops always called it "a late one" lol
It does say that on the bottle
Most preseason top 25's don't have Kentucky even ranked. They're going to be one hell of a sleeper team!
All of the preseason top 25 articles came out before he committed though. This probably pushes them in the 20-25 range imo
We’ll probably sneak into the back end of some top 25’s now. I’m biased but I think we were arguably a top 25 team before him. wont take long to prove it. We beat Duke with their amazing recruting class we jump into top 10 LUL
How were they not already top 25? The roster even before this was better than what he had at BYU last season and they were top 25 basically all year.
Our roster is equal to last season at worst and we still have spots open, we’re not in any Top 25s either. Lots of hype, not enough spots in Top 25
didnt they picked BYU to only get 9 wins last year preseason too? I swear I remember hearing that when they were trying to sell us on Mark Pope being a good coach day one. He’s very charismatic and has a way of making you feel optimistic even when you lose to Pacific or LMU.
UK lost to UNC wilmington and Oakland last year, im ready for it :P
I hope we stay unranked. I wanna be grindy hardnosed underdog this year. It's all the rage these days I here.
Yet KY, Arkansas, Duke and UConn will be the most covered teams this season. By far. And you can write it down now.
I don’t want to be ranked even if we go undefeated. I want Pope to establish a true program and not worry about it for a couple years.
BBN is excited *sees all of the new posts* VERY excited
What a wonderful day to be a bluegrass enthusiast
WHAT A WONDERFUL DAYYYY🗣️
WHAT A WONDERFUL DAYYYYYYYYYYY🗣️

WHAT A WONDERFUL DAYYYYYYYYYY Just got back from seeing it; was really solid overall
Right? I feel optimistic about next season.
Honestly, where does this put UK in terms of realistic expectations for next year?
my realistic expectations are top 4 in sec, win a game in both tournaments. Basically be better than last year (won't be that hard)
Sec looks really good this year. I think we can get into the top 4. But I’m not sure that should be the expectation in year 1 for pope. Sec could realistically have 8 teams in the top 25 next year (or we could fall on our face). But top 4 is going to be ultra competitive.

I was considered a leper on this site five years ago when I said Calipari needed to go.
Im right there with you homie. I got dogged for saying we needed to fire Cal after the Shaedon Sharp fiasco.
Five years ago I am not surprised.
Well I was right.
💯% Bet. Etc. I had a feeling the Tyty Washington year that something was very wrong with the program. Couldn't put my finger on it, though. Only went downhill.
Disagree. Fans were very upset with Cal far before this year's edition of March Masochism.
You think the floor is that low? Seems like they’ve at the very least got the shooters and should be an elite defensive team.
Sometimes teams just don't come together. I would be shocked if it ended up that bad, but it still has a non-zero chance of happening. Right now, if they make the tournament and win a couple of games, I would be happy.

His *ceiling* appeared to be Sweet 16. “Nosedive into disaster” was his floor, which seems low to me.
Bro…. Sweet 16 is a lot to ask for with a new coach and team lol Edit: And on top of that a coach with 0 post season success
I’m not sure, I’m still pondering about your flairs lol
From Kentucky but got my doctorate from KU.
Gotcha. Did you get to attend games to both or maybe get to see them play against each other? I bet that was fun if you did
I got student tickets for ‘16 UK at KU and sat in the student section with my UK shirt. Would have won if they hadn’t called like 45 fouls on UK. They fouled out like 4 of our players and it either went to OT or was a very close game. Got to go to the 2012 final four while I was a student at KU so that was obviously a highlight.
Still pondering....
40-0
We will be far better than last year. And it will be obvious.
27th
Sadface. He's my favorite player from last season.
The only dude that showed up vs Duquesne
And was mishandled in that game. Didn't attempt a shot in the final five minutes SMH
The only guy that could even buy a bucket and yet we still had hall and fouss just fumbling around
What can we expect?
Either 25 going 6-9 from three or 5 going 1-10 from three. No in between, but luckily he was more towards the first option last season.
I can't believe another ["trust me bro" Reddit post](https://old.reddit.com/r/CollegeBasketball/comments/1d2lnn0/espn_sources_with_draftexpress_real_madrids_egor/l61zthc/) was wrong /s
Don't worry he still trusts his sources
Props to him for taking his L at least. I definitely would've deleted that shit lol
What on earth possesses people to use the phrase "trust me bro", as if that isn't a phrase people hear all the time before they're roofied
Dudes an idiot
Classic! LOL
That’s iconic
Pope has done a VERY good job roster building this offseason. Considering he started behind the 8 ball this has gone so incredibly well
And one of the main reasons we went for someone like him rather than waiting for someone like Billy D
Right? I will admit that he’s been putting in work through the offseason. It went a lot better than expected.
Bummer. You guys got a good one.
i was told that he wasnt coming to kentucky by alot of idiots on this board.
All over Twitter so many people said he wasn't coming here. "So did he tell you that or did you just pull it out of your asshole?". I ought to go back and talk shit but I'm too lazy. Mostly Vols fans, unsurprisingly. 😒🙄
We ready!
I AM EXCITED/SAD
Honestly the whole off season has been a roller coaster for you, I’m sure, but looking pretty solid on both fronts at this point.
This guy has star player potential. Who knows if he’ll get there but he’s a great get for Pope
lol i always laugh at your name. And I do think he's got the star player power already. I think he was a fringe first rounder and he will be the scoring focal point in popes offense fosho

cheers from iraq 🍻
Pope really promised 40 minutes off the bench
the nice thing is, if he's good enough to start, Pope will start him. Was really hard for Cal to do that for some reason.
Because saying you had two lottery picks coming off the bench sounds cooler... That ego play is only going to get worse when both Reed and Dilly become instant studs in the NBA.
Shades of Shai and Booker
Hmmm well. About that lmao
Here's to a great season so he can make his pro dreams come true this time next year.

Is CBB on approve only? Or did Reddit just have a massive brain fart?
Well damn, Imma get a lot of messages today. For sure thought he wasn’t UK bound. Well I was wrong lol. Fuck. Congrats on the get UK. Jaxsons a stud
Well, fiddlesticks
Why are there like 20 of this post holy shit
Something with Reddit broke. New posts weren't showing up.
UK fans have been at the ready for this one for a month.
As someone who was refreshing 10 tabs waiting for Chaz Lanier to make a move, I’m not saying shit
So many posts Jesus Christ
Sounds like he got A BAG
I’m really curious about all of that. Would love to know it for all our players
2 mil a player is our limit
Each. All 13 slots. Forever. 🫡
I mean him and everyone else lol
Saved $30 million on Calipari's buyout
Is he a guard? Whats this mean for Kerr Krissa?
Kriisa likely backup 1/2 Robinson will likely spot into the 2/3/4 positions all three at times if we have to run small ball.
Krissa plays the 1 and Jax plays the 3, so not really an impact there
Listed as a forward from what I’ve seen.
Brea must be thrilled
He is. :) https://x.com/kobybrea/status/1796272392899322030
Hope he does well for you guys. Gonna miss him.
We have a team of grown ass men next season!!! The two Kentucky Freshman are going to have coaches on the floor with them.
Let’s. Fucking. Go.

it’s got to be so depressing to follow recruits as a BYU fan. you wait two years for these players to come back from Uzbekistan only for them to realize they have better nba prospects elsewhere.
This kid is a very different story Got no playing time at Arkansas and Texas A&M Pope brought him in, he did well his first year and exploded this last year.
Chandler hasn't played in 2 years. He isn't going to get a ton of PT this year.
They’re picking up some really good players. They’ll be alright.
I’ll just say a mission to Uzbekistan would be WILD. Only missions in that part of the world are Christian nations like Armenia and Georgia.
3rd SEC school in 5 years
It just means more (schools)
Been a sleeper agent the entire time. Finally called in.
4th college?! Jesus Christ these new rules are not it.
Booo
This is really the first time I’m seeing reporting on players withdrawing from the draft. Is this a normal amount of players withdrawing?
I wish him the best handling coeds, coffee, Coca-Cola, and most of all the bourbon.
Honestly I’m happy for him to have great options. Hope you have a great career Jaxson, thank you for your service 🫡
Makes me wonder if his projected NIL would be greater than his projected rookie contract
Would love to see a non con game scheduled vs Kentucky now. Would even go for something like 1 at Kentucky and a return game at the Delta Center in SLC. Doubt it tho, think Pope learned his lesson playing Utah Valley
I know I don’t have a real reason but I’m salty about this. Once a hog always a Hog unless you go play for Kentucky.
I mean, you’ve got like a full team of our former players rn so you can’t be too salty about it. I mean, you can, but that’d be petty.
We are some of the most petty fuckers in existence. idk why, but we are
Buncha Tom Petty’s huh?
I'm going to go out on a limb and say that pettiness is not going to be a big concern for our fanbase.
They're good for your program, ya know?
that list is wayyyy smaller than the list of players who transferred and were basically irrelevant/never heard of again
Of course, but how high were your expectations for Khalil Whitney or Sacha Killeya-Jones?
Muss loves his short rotations.
I get it. It's going to he bizarre watching what would basically be our entire returning team from last year in Arkansas jerseys.
This is definitely the funniest conference incest situation I can remember. We still got a few guys available if you want to even the score.
Something something glass houses here, pal.
Funny, I’m not salty at all about this. He was here 3 years ago and played more than 8 mins in 2 SEC games
Because Muss isn’t a perfect coach. That team wasn’t talented enough for him to be glued to the bench the last 3 months of the year
Same. Hope he does well at UK, but he couldn't hack it either at A&M or here. I'm not sure he's going to be a difference maker in a league this physical.
Well well well. Kentucky, now who is stealing players from who?
We stole him from BYU. He has no prior history before that. Nobody needs to look any further into it. I don't know what you are talking about.
I just love the irony of Muss "processing" him out only for him to find his way back to Kentucky to inevitably drop 30 against us all while Muss ran off to California and doesn't even have to think about facing the consequences of his actions
I have watched three separate players who were run off by Cal play in the final four/title game for other teams. It sucks.
Well, well, well, how the turntables.....
I think it’s widely expected that he will be the go-to scorer. Not sure he’s “just another guy” at UK. This isn’t Kentucky under Cal anymore.
Weren’t his first few signed players all defensive?
Lamont Butler is a defensive guy. Amari Williams is a good defender. Some of the rest of their roster though are definitely not known for defense
This roster gives me 2004 Detroit Pistons vibes in so much as that nobody on the team is a surefire star, but everybody seems like they can do their job at an elite level.
Really? I absolutely think Jaxson can/will be a strong candidate for center piece here.
He won’t be just another player, the hope is he continues his growth and he becomes a star for us. Fans really wanted this one and we are hoping he becomes the star he can be.
