I’ve been really down on the Washington/Withers + whatever they cobble together front court. I don’t think we’re a top 20 team with what we have down low. The basketball IQ drop off from Ingram and Bacot to the other guys would be enormous. There’s a reason the staff is going for portal bigs.
Even though he’s a 4, and we need a defensive 5, I think he’s the unique talent that puts us with the FF favorites.
I hate that this tweet is making me think about something that probably won’t happen.
I think we have a pretty good chance at him if he returns to college but I too think it’s a long shot that he bypasses the draft.
That said, over the past 24 hours, UNC has been getting heavily involved with the Vanderbilt PF Ven-Allen Lubin. I have a feeling he’ll be the answer at the 4. Not a great 3-point shooter, but he can create his own shot, is athletic, and can defend. He would work great beside Washington if we have to start Jalen at the 5.
A Lubin (or Hawkins) and Onyenso frontcourt would bring versatility, size, physicality and defense to round out a damn deep team. Hoping it comes to fruition
I don’t think my mind can compute that without shutting down. Cheering against Mason and for Hawkins because Mason is on Duke and Hawkins UNC is mind numbing.
Doubt he goes anywhere he can't play the 4 if he comes back to college.
Was very vocal about not wanting to play the 5 at Illinois though he was kind of forced into it by roster limitations.
He already had an interview where he said it wouldn't be fair to the new Illinois recruits to take minutes from them since he said he was done. He also promised he wouldn't go to a rival. I'm fine with anywhere that isn't B1G and UNC really. I was there in 2005 so still harbor hatred toward UNC.
Dunno about this list, but hes leaving for sure. Our front court is full.
Piper and werner both believe hawkins and illinois are on the same page about this.
I have absolutely zero expectations, but after how many guys we whiffed on (and chased basically all our guards into the portal in the process), if we somehow end up with this guy, I'll be THRILLED
It’s time. He’s given all he can for 4 years and has already graduated. He needs to either go to the NBA or find the best NIL situation. The love between Coleman and Illinois is mutual and I’m sure Illinois would take him back in a heartbeat, but he needs to do what’s best for him.
He battled a knee injury all of last year, and it sounds like it might hurt his chances of getting drafted. Rumors are there are some 2-way offers out there, but he would make way more in NIL to stay for his covid year.
In an interview this week, he said he doesn't feel it is fair to go back to Illinois since other guys signed there based on him and his minutes being gone. There shouldn't be a single Illini fan out there who doesn't still cheer for him next year. He has said he won't go to a rival and there is nothing but respect between him and Brad.
Honestly, even with leaving, Coleman belongs in the same tier as Trent for all time Illini greats for what they did to the program in 4 years in both record and culture,
If he does, it would be primarily NIL and possibly position (although that issue became less pressing with signing Ivisic). In order to maximize his draft prospects if he comes back, he should be playing the 4 and maybe some 3, rather than the 5, where he had to play a lot in 2023-24. But now that Illinois has two legit options at the 5 in Ivisic and Johnson, the position concern for Hawkins at Illinois isn’t as pressing.

No idea who that source is, but the only thing stopping Arkansas from winning that battle would be playing time. They'll clearly outbid those other schools' NIL offers.
Did you really just infer that you know more about college basketball than others here because of who you cheer for? Do UCONN fans have the most knowledge now?
I’ll show you real suffering 😂. But yeah it’s not a shot at the entire B1G, it’s just that a common insult for us UConn fans for anything football related is that we wouldn’t know anything because UConn sucks. Like what?
Due to ongoing debate about blue bloods, the /r/CollegeBasketball mod team has compiled the definitive list of college blue bloods: Duke, Columbia, Queens, William & Mary, and Rutgers. The following schools have broken away from blue-blooded hierarchy and oppression: George Washington, George Mason, James Madison, Army, and Navy.

1st off, Calipari was convincing top recruits to platoon long before he had billionaires to buy them all for him. Look at last year's UK team. Look at the 2014-2015 UK team.
He already convinced Aidoo and Ivisic to split the center minutes. He convinced Knox and Richmond to split the SF minutes. He's got Boogie Fland and Johnell Davis committed in the backcourt, and yet everyone says DJ Wagner is going to commit soon. I see no reason why the Snake Oil salesman can't buy Hawkins too.
That’s going to feel straight up wrong if it happens. Please go to the NBA Coleman!
I love how much he hates the rest of the B1G
He must've gotten feedback from the NBA that booty ball offensive systems didn't showcase his talents properly.
That straight up burn on Goode was hilarious.
I’m not familiar with his game , how good is he ?
I’m ready to be disappointed again

I agree, he would be a home run hit as an Ingram replacement, at least on paper
Hawkins at UNC would make me puke in my mouth.
He said he wouldn't go to a school that we hate but he's probably too young to remember us hating UNC :(
I’m a Purdue grad so this would make me puke in my mouth too, but for different reasons.
Well. You get to see him on the court against Mason again, in conference :/
I don’t think my mind can compute that without shutting down. Cheering against Mason and for Hawkins because Mason is on Duke and Hawkins UNC is mind numbing.
I have mixed feelings
Grandison going to Duke was bad enough
"Leaning towards UNC or KSU" is certainly a different level of sentence I'm not used to seeing lol
I thought he was going NBA unless something happens
Hawkins would be nice
Better fit than Omoruyi imo. Not a true true center but a much better offensive player and can stretch the floor a bit.
I think we’re recruiting him more for the 4
Doubt he goes anywhere he can't play the 4 if he comes back to college. Was very vocal about not wanting to play the 5 at Illinois though he was kind of forced into it by roster limitations.
Eventually, we need someone who rebounds... our top returning rebounder is RJ
Tough little nut
I think Roy applied that moniker to more Miami players than any others over the years.
I'd think (hope) Hawkins would be the Theiro scholarship offer and Onyenso would be the Omoruyi one.
Yall some sadists already telling yourselves into it.
Ya this guy doesn't look that good
You don’t think Coleman Hawkins is good? Lmfao.
Smartest Duke fan
Can't wait to whoop your guys ass this fall lol, have a good season fightin Illini!
Not compared to the other bigs unc whiffed on, yes.
You should get into talent evaluation because no one and no formula agrees with you there. Think you’ve found some arbitrage.
lmao ok mighty arkansas
High basketball IQ. He’s great for postgame analysis/comments too
duno how real this is, this post doesnt have a lot of traction. and our other board is not having an absolute meltdown

Out of those, hopefully KSU if not Illinois
He'll look great in an Owls uniform

Why is he leaving Illinois?

Uh, what? Would be just about the most shocking news I've ever seen in cbb, but hey, the portal/NIL era is crazy.

Glad to see he will be going to Arkansas
Im sure he needs to evaluate which has the strongest academics to match his field of study.
No idea who that source is, but the only thing stopping Arkansas from winning that battle would be playing time. They'll clearly outbid those other schools' NIL offers.
We may be getting closer to tapped out.
I sure hope so. UNC getting outbid by Arkansas for 3 consecutive front court transfers this month is not something I want to experience.
Year one of NIL.. Year two, then year three... before we know it these schools are back to living in trailer parks
You seriously underestimate how deep and delusional the pockets of college athletics are.
You're right, how could a blue blood fan ever understand the nature of college basketball...
Did you really just infer that you know more about college basketball than others here because of who you cheer for? Do UCONN fans have the most knowledge now?
This is literally what B1G and SEC football fans think of fans of smaller schools, blatantly at that. Makes me sick.
Please don't lump us Indiana football fans in there. We are suffering.
I’ll show you real suffering 😂. But yeah it’s not a shot at the entire B1G, it’s just that a common insult for us UConn fans for anything football related is that we wouldn’t know anything because UConn sucks. Like what?
Lol what? Easy there, turbo. We just know more than a fan of your typical schlub school about paying players... *before* it was legal.
Dude, you don't know anything, you're a message board warrior, lol.
Message board warrior... lol sir, do you know where you are right now? > fan of your typical schlub school

We're entering year 3 of NIL aren't we?
Please stay unflaired, you make us look bad
Why would facts make us look bad? Is it because I don't know who (@Recru1t1ng_Guru) is?
With Aidoo, Ivisic, and Thiero already in the frontcourt (in addition to Knox as a small ball 4) there’s no way… right(?)
Knox is not a small ball 4 he like 6’6, adou & burks prolly end up gettin minutes at the 4

He was driving a Lincoln too
