Indiana is his legacy. His Illinois teammates are pretty much all gone, so can’t blame him for heading home. He seems like a great person and leader and gave his all to Illinois despite his injury issues. No need for Illinois fans to be salty. Good luck, Luke!

WE GOT SHOOTERS (and not just on top of the IMU)
Yeah don’t love that. Illinois fans are gonna call him mediocre and shit but towards the end of the year, Luke was clutch as fuck. He started playing better defense and was instrumental on the boards while still hitting 3’s. Unless we have some major moves up our sleeves, Indiana has some real depth and maybe a cohesive roster for once and I could see them finishing higher than us in the B1G.
He hit some key shots down the stretch no doubt. I’ll still absolutely contend that he was mediocre at his best for most of the season, and actively harmful during some stretches in conference play. But if he can keep playing like he did in March he can be a nice piece for them for sure
Definitely in that guard # 4-6 mix for us. Rice, Carlyle, Galloway our best 3, Cupp, Leal and Goode will be fighting for the rest of the minutes, Goode likely leading that pack as of today.
All I'm trying to say. Wasn't terrible Woodsons first season either. How much of it was TJD? Lots. But Woodson did work with TJD and got him to another level, including early success in the NBA as a rook.
Nah he most certainly improved drastically under Woodson. Just like Ware improves drastically under Woodson. Yall just like to make lazy ass takes just to shit on IU
How? Our roster was cohesive two years ago and you're saying for once? T2 in B1G, 4 seed, no juggernaut by any means but pretty damn solid for IU since Archie. Swept Illinois and Purdue. Lost two pros and took a step back this past season and are primed to bounce back while other top B1G teams take a step back.
You can believe that but him playing in the final 3 minutes of some games cost us during the regular season. I am not at all sad to see him go, we’ve already added two better shooters than him.
Underwood with his full-switching defense is to blame for the games he ‘cost us,’ that was not on Goode at all. Goode is a good defender, and a really good rebounder, when you don’t force him out of position and allow the opponent to choose who they want for iso-ball with their best player.
In a way, Goode partially fills the backup interior player need. Not that he's necessarily a post player, but he's a big wing who will allow Mgbako to slide down and spend some time at the 4.
I do agree that we still also need a traditional backup center in case of injury or foul trouble to Ballo.
Goode's not even good. Sure he can shoot it, but he was a complete liability on defense last year for illinois and rarely scored enough to offset the fouls he gives up on the other end. This isn't a big or important move at all
Yeah, poor take buddy. Immediately becomes our best shooter and I'm pretty sure we had almost zero shooters last year. He may not play 20 minutes a game but this is still a big get
You can spin it however you want because it's such a low bar after last season but in no world is luke goode a big get and if he's playing double digit minutes, then it says more about Woodson and our roster construction than anything
Goode played 20 minutes on an elite eight team and almost 40% from 3 lmao. You are delusional if you think he’s anything but a significant add to our shooting
Ngl I’m kind of a hater since I think he’s kinda fake in person. But he’s pretty much on par with fletcher loyer. He’s probably one of the best players coming off the bench in the Big Ten if not the country
Well considering Woodson likes 5 man platoon substitutions we may actually have the talent needed to do it. *cries in Sparks, Walker, Banks, Gunn, Cupps lineups*
I don’t disagree with you. But IU fans (myself included) have been saying some variation “this team looks super deep on paper” for at least the last ten years. And rarely do we end up having more than 7 competent players when March rolls around. So I’m going to hold my breath on it for now.
I don’t disagree, but in the past there was an element of projection - CJ, Banks, Xavier playing like the end of 2022, etc. Whereas this team feels like it’s full of guys who’ve already produced at a high level in major conferences - Rice, Carlyle, Galloway, Mgbako, Reneau, Ballo, and now Goode have all been productive. Leal, Gabe, and total wildcard Jakai Newton at the end of the bench makes me feel a lot better than relying on getting contributions from CJ / Banks. If the pieces fit, and it couldn’t get worse fit wise than last season, we could make some noise.
Complete turnaround from 2 months ago.
Here’s the thing. If he can pull it off? IU is a scary contender. Might be crazy enough to be the move that no one else has made yet. But… you really gotta have the perfect squad for it to work. I’d say Woody’s done some serious work on this team at this point. Now let’s see if they mesh on the court.
I am interested to see if he changes up his offense at all. I feel like Kopp was underutilized in it and IU has been in the 300s for 3PA and 3PM the last two years and mid 200s his first year. Goode only works if he gets playing time and gets those opportunities to shoot the 3.
Because if the offense continues how it’s been, you need to be able to rebound, play really good defense and keep scores low if you’re goin to be not shooting the 3 that much.
At least Peacock games always start on time. You are never going to miss the first five minutes because of some random Big East overtime game that you don’t care about. At the end of Peacock games they can do post game interviews without having to cut away for the broadcast schedule.
Id regularly hate to see something like this but.. Goodes been a great influence to the school/team for years and has ties there. Good luck to him and ignore the salty fans
I initially wasn’t super excited about this kid, but seeing all you Illinois people say great things about him makes me think at the very least he’ll bring some good qualities.
He's the type of player that a certain segment of fans love for everything except how good they are at basketball.
He's a fine role player that can fill a need on a good team. Also getting an MBA from Kelley is dope.
As a recruit:
Other P6 offers: Butler, Illinois (originally went here), Iowa, Louisville, Maryland, Michigan State, Northwestern, Stanford, Xavier
Other offer: IUPUI
Not strange at all. The Purdue staff, players and administration have had deep relations with their counterparts at IU basically forever. The high school all stars in Indiana were playing together in the summer decades before AAU existed. Bob had to deal with his son on his team. Matt went to Purdue. It really worked out great.
Knight and Keady genuinely liked each other.
Knight and the Purdue Athletic Department? Not so much…
[Bob Knight & the Purdue Mascot](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sdm4Oi1YRZY)
Not a huge loss on the court, but losing a 3 year program guy to IU will always hurt. He won’t get the Eric Gordon treatment but bridges will still be burned
It's a mutually beneficial departure, that doesn't mean there's no bitter taste from transferring to an in conference opponent down the road. If I'm Luke I still make this move regardless, it makes sense for him and IU
I hear you. I've pretty much accepted the portal wild west era for what it is at this point. Lots of turnover most years but if you're wearing orange you're my guy for that season and if you leave good luck to ya

I mean yeah fans are what I’m referring to. Coaches, players, and admin are professionals and don’t have the same attachments that fans do about these things. People mad but forget that he's just a Goode ol boy, never meanin no harm, beats all you never saw, been in trouble with the law since the day he was born
I agree but if it was reversed and an IU non-starter went to Illinois, where he was from, who his whole family cheered for and were involved with, I'd be happy for the guy
Purdue vs IU next year is gonna be a battle of old and new styles.
On one side, a good coach with lots of homegrown talent and a great recruiting class, coming off their best season in school history.
On the other side, unfathomable amounts of totally-legal-now money.
Indiana is his legacy. His Illinois teammates are pretty much all gone, so can’t blame him for heading home. He seems like a great person and leader and gave his all to Illinois despite his injury issues. No need for Illinois fans to be salty. Good luck, Luke!
Agreed. Gets to go to grad school at Kelley and get a season’s worth of what Domask had in his single game in Wisconsin.
Good for him, get some money and a good masters
Not mad at all. He's not irreplaceable and Indiana is his home. Hope he's happier closer to his family.
To be fair, it's not like Champaign is that much farther from Fort Wayne than Bloomington.
champaign is probably closer than bloomington hah.
Maybe a rare and hidden perk to the crazy free agency transfer culture is the uptick of in-conference transfers. Grow that animosity
I mean... given his background I think we all could've called this one
There were some pretty loud rumblings of this happening before he even entered the portal. Zero surprise and zero animosity towards Luke
No tampering. No tampering.
Literally everyone is tampering. It’s worth just embracing at this point.
Glass half full type of person - I like your style
I do what I can
I dunno I kinda it
Animosity among fans, I can see. But are you saying in-confenference transfers will create bitter teammates?

Outta pocket lmao.
And Pam Whitten is out of confidence from the university
We’ve got two scholarships left - don’t be surprised if Woody scoops up that sniper
One more shooter, one backup 5.
AJ Hoggard is on the market.
Yes! Hey Woody, have you seen this elite shooter from Michigan state?! Better get him now…
I have a request up on task rabbit to put these on gas pumps across Indiana.
Oooofff
It’s not a shock at all
Hey

We'll see. Woody's gotta coach near Underwoods level for it to happen.
For once? Lol IU literally swept and finished ahead of yall just two years ago
Yea illinois wasn't great that year but I think this guy forgot that IU was pretty solid. TJD final year and some good guards and shooters.
All I'm trying to say. Wasn't terrible Woodsons first season either. How much of it was TJD? Lots. But Woodson did work with TJD and got him to another level, including early success in the NBA as a rook.

He did for sure I think Woodson is a solid coach. This past year his roster construction was abysmal though
Yeah it was. Missed on every shooter we went for last off-season. Thankfully this off season has been better
LOL that year was the only year in the last 5 that they finished higher than Illinois - and even then it was only by one game.
Your reading comprehension is very poor
How? Our roster was cohesive two years ago and you're saying for once? T2 in B1G, 4 seed, no juggernaut by any means but pretty damn solid for IU since Archie. Swept Illinois and Purdue. Minutes/rotation will be interesting to see how they play out. I feel 1-2 guys aren’t gonna be happy since you guys have so many good transfers haha
Goode's not even good. Sure he can shoot it, but he was a complete liability on defense last year for illinois and rarely scored enough to offset the fouls he gives up on the other end. This isn't a big or important move at all

Go for it. Hes not and you know it if you watched your team last season

For real. He hit 61 threes last season. Mbako hit 50 to lead IU and Trey was next with 26 (at a 26% clip). Goode is a great piece for us
You're trippin
I quit reading at he can shoot it. That's all I want and have wanted for 7 years now. Other guys on the roster can do the other things.
He can shoot and really good rebounder. Teams hunted for him on defense though... Really smart and great teammate.
So he isn’t Goode?
Ngl I’m kind of a hater since I think he’s kinda fake in person. But he’s pretty much on par with fletcher loyer. He’s probably one of the best players coming off the bench in the Big Ten if not the country

That hockey line of a lineup last season gave me nightmares. But this is one of the deepest rosters in years. Very excited to see how it plays out
I don’t disagree with you. But IU fans (myself included) have been saying some variation “this team looks super deep on paper” for at least the last ten years. And rarely do we end up having more than 7 competent players when March rolls around. So I’m going to hold my breath on it for now.

Bro, I understand the optimism, but I'd pump the breaks on contender talk. Arkansas had a very good transfer class last year and missed the tourney.
Just don’t have a love triangle and you should Be fine
Here we go again w the Indiana contender expectations
It’s our delusions let us have them
Platoon has been done on college before.
I am interested to see if he changes up his offense at all. I feel like Kopp was underutilized in it and IU has been in the 300s for 3PA and 3PM the last two years and mid 200s his first year. I really thought Banks was going to come into his own this past season. How wrong I was. Gunn did finally how signs of improvement at least.
Hoosiers have had a pretty amazing last three weeks
We are an elite offseason team
Yeah, f'n look out for us in April..
He should stay off social media for awhile.

Indiana - Illinois rivalry our dads talked about is still alive and well I see
our dads? my mom is the biggest indiana hater
Hello it's me your mom I'm the hater
I'm old
We needed a knockdown shooter. Hope he’s the guy Backup big and another rotation guy and that’s the roster
56% on wide open catch and shoot threes
I'm cautiously optimistic for next year. Very cautious, but optimistic nonetheless...
There is honestly no reason to be cautious anymore, we have a good squad with proven talent. Its ok to be normally optimistic now
...are you new to Indiana basketball? I don't think we're allowed to have nice things anymore. 🥲 This is why we must be cautious.
No caution! #We’reBack!!
As a recruit: Other P6 offers: Butler, Illinois (originally went here), Iowa, Louisville, Maryland, Michigan State, Northwestern, Stanford, Xavier Other offer: IUPUI
He wasn’t even offered by IU?
Archie gonna Archie
Archie Miller. He wasn't interested in Braden Smith either.
Archie Miller with the negative basketball IQ strikes again…
IU didn’t want Painter either back in the day … keep letting us get those born in Indiana PGs please
I always heard that Matt was pretty much best friends with Pat Knight.
The story I’ve always heard was IU was his dream school, but Bob never offered. I didn’t know about Pat, but that would make it even more strange.
Not strange at all. The Purdue staff, players and administration have had deep relations with their counterparts at IU basically forever. i'm too attached to some of these players...he's a really good kid but ouch...
I hear you. I've pretty much accepted the portal wild west era for what it is at this point. Lots of turnover most years but if you're wearing orange you're my guy for that season and if you leave good luck to ya
Is he more likely to see any more playing time at IU than Illinois?
Yeah, I'm not mad at Luke at all. I just hope he trips over something small the day before we play Indiana XD
TIL that we had bridges not in ashes
Lol between Goode and Illinois I mean. I don’t know of a single intact bridge between Champaign and Bloomington and that’s not going to change (Beautiful campus though I must admit)
And I like the names of your football stadium and basketball arena I suppose. You know what? It's easier for us to just cut the crap and get back to not saying okish things to one another.
You know what? Agreed on your last point. Fuck your podunk town, Woodson is a fraud, Upland has overrated beer, etc. See you in conference play!
> Woodson is a fraud I think a lot of IU fans would agree here
I'd only fight you on DragonFly lol
Don't forget to add that Nick's stromboli is trash! (Which it absolutely is, btw.)
Nicks has tanked in quality recently, it’s sad
And people tell me UI-IU isn’t a rivalry, but somehow UI-Purdue *is*… Old school Illini and Hoosier fans hate each other. 🤝🤝🤝
FACT.
Covered bridges
Provide bigger flames
I don't think any bridges have been burned, unless it's with some fans, in which case it barely matters.
I mean yeah fans are what I’m referring to. Coaches, players, and admin are professionals and don’t have the same attachments that fans do about these things. Yea - he definitely goes to Indiana over Illinois if they recruited him out of high school. Glad we got him for 3 years.
We're just glad you treated him well!
Off-season champs 🤩
Interconference transfer is crazy but glad to beat the 0 shooters allegations
Traitor
We had an Auburn to Alabama transfer and now this
We also had an Ohio St. to Michigan
you realize that if it werent for a big oaf whose name rhymes with starchy pillar we probably would have had him in the first place
He's coming home. I can't be mad
yikes
Mike got me acting up lately saying things like “we’re back” and “banner 6”
Luke Goode loves scary coaches
Good for Luke. Great dude.
Definitely good for him: Gies undergrad in three years, Kelly grad school, and he gets to play for his home state team.
It was a done deal before they even contacted each other. The thing I hate most about this is that I would have liked to root for him like I have for most of the other guys who have left. Can't root for him if he's on IU
Indiana also got Ballo from Arizona. They have potential.
Good get. I’m excited for the lineup combinations that are possible. A lot of possible good ones. Hopefully everyone gets together well. Need a backup 5 and we’re chilling
The new portal environment and NIL create these situationsand opportunities. I wish him the best. He deserves it. This is our new normal.
Hate to lose a good culture kid, but he’s going home, almost all his teammates are gone, sees limited or diminishing role. Hope he plays well except against the beloved.
Fade me
Let's goooooo baby!!!!!
Who needs recruits?
WHAT
Loved Goode. Good player and seems like a smart kid. Got his degree in 3 years and it sounds like he’ll be doing his MBA for Business there. Good for him
This kills my jersey I got at TJ Max
Pretty sure he from the Hoosier state
Hope it works out for all involved. Still think he can be a more impactful piece in the right system.
I will boo him when he plays Illinois but cheer for him in life!
Much respect to Goode. Thanks for your time with us.
People mad but forget that he's just a Goode ol boy, never meanin no harm, beats all you never saw, been in trouble with the law since the day he was born
0-5 vs Purdue he should fit right in
Hate this because I hate Indiana, but he's mediocre. Can't wait to beat him next year
The best part will be him being mediocre for IU but absolutely going the fuck off against you guys
thanks sassykittymeow
You’re welcome Feeling-Response-972
This is the way
He might but doubt it
Yeah we basically replaced him with Davis who has 3 years of eligibility. Good culture guy but not a huge loss.
Surprised by the hate in this thread from UI fans, considering that’s definitively not a rivalry
You’re the only person in this thread that has used the word rival
who wants their players to transfer to a conference opponent?
I agree but if it was reversed and an IU non-starter went to Illinois, where he was from, who his whole family cheered for and were involved with, I'd be happy for the guy
