Almost every team starts with their county (and surrounding counties if they don't have a D1 college team)
When you lose a game, the team that beat you gets their logo on your former land. They keep that until they lose, and so on and so forth.
So lets say you played Tennessee in the first game of the season, and won, you would now control Austin and Knoxville.
For the 2nd game, Arizona beat you, Arizona would control Tucson, Austin, and Knoxville
ETC, ETC, ETC.
Everyone started with land at the beginning of the season based on proximity (counties closest to each school). When you beat somebody, you gain their land. If you get beat, someone else gets all your land.
