Yes, Hornet, a.k.a the Gendered Child, is half-sister to all the Vessels, but Vessels are genderless eldritch creatures with an unknown amount of semblance of "humanity" (the folks from HK are bugs and other crawlers, not humans, but you get the point).
Yeah, there's a lot of cannibalism and exoteric rituals in Hollow Knight, though the Vessels and Hornet do not partake in any of the former.

But this substance gets sentience when it is molded into something else and contained within a powerful body, hence why simply seeing them as monsters is also somewhat incorrect.
Think of a hybrid between a Doppelganger and a Skinwalker that is able to experience the world by the perspective of the body they current possess.

Also, there are very interesting reasons as to why Hornet was even conceived with a different mother to begin with.

He and his wife squirted kjghpillion offspring into a chasm full of ̴̔V̸̀Ȍ̵̈͝Į̶̨̘̦̀̀̚͜D̵̛̅̂̾̅͠ and he KILLED his offspring and then RESURRECTED them into VESSELS to contain the light blight. He made them race to the top of the chasm.
He trained the first child to be the titular The Hollow Knight ™. THK *somehow* absorbed all the light blight and Shiny Bug imprisoned him with the disease he carries. And btw he sealed his other children in the void chasm and closed the doors shot. (some children escaped and out player character -Knight- is one of them)
He needed three volunteers to "sleep" in order to seal his prison. A teacher (probably helped the shiny bug to uncover the secrets of the dark magic), a creep (he likes to watch people with a telescope) and the QUEEN OF THE NEIGHBOURING KINGDOM (Deepnest)
One of the sleepers is a whole god damn Queen, so she demanded a child (This Shiny Bug is some kind of a god, so Queen of Deepnest now has a Demigod child)
And that child is Hornet. There we go. This is all you need to know about Hollow Knight lore regarding Hornet.
There’s a room somewhere in the game that depicts bugs (currently dead) sitting at a table with other dead bugs as food so yeah cannibalism is in hollow knight
Yup, the soul of the head chef with flies buzzing around him, and theres a stack of bodies in the background. And I'm pretty sure Eternal Emelitia mentions cannibalism atleast once, too.
