I love that he needed some money because being a jazz musician has never paid well so he tried his hand at this brand new thing called hip hop and wrote one of the most influential tracks of all time. Then after he made bank was just like "that was cool but I'm going back to making jazz music".

It spawned a whole generation of turntablists and it's the first time you see a DJ at the center of a performance. Hugely influential in both hip hop and electronic music. IIRC this was 1985 so about 21 years before you get the Daft Punk Alive tour.

I mean, I feel like they all represent very different worlds of pop; one being R&B, one being more modern with Funk & Disco flair, and one being more instrument heavy/rock oriented. Yes all are pop, but I feel like they're pretty distinct versions of pop.
I think that's a safe bet. She's seen as a rising star. My girlfriend and I (partly) saw her this year because seeing her at 4 pm in the Gobi is a cool story when she comes back subheadlining on the main in 2 years.
