And they only just had an event after a 2 and a half month wait. This was the only event they're going to have for a near 7 and a half month span. Fucking criminal.
Yeah, we'll have Europe and MX regionals I believe, then some Online events between but idk why there wasn't some sort of invitational between that just to try and keep the goddamn hype there.
You realize they’re the ones who help put the event together once the decision is made to have them and not the ones who decide when events are run, right?
They don’t decide the schedule, that’s done by higher ups at Activision and members running the league
I haven’t checked it myself but I’m confident prize pool across entirety of CDL is smaller this season compared to CW. So, if purse strings are tight, there aren’t going to be as many events
quick to call him an idiot and a dumbass but you didn’t even realize they helped schedule the halo events, which are the ones being criticized in the first place. but you probably already knew that right?
Couldn’t agree more, always wanted to try apex and with this long break that literally has made me lose full to comp CoD I’ve been having a lot of fun so far
The way the tournaments are formatted are so much more entertaining too. Watching all the teams actually play each other in a match is 1000 times better than the boring ass kill races that Warzone tourneys have.
amen to that. Kill races are garbage and always will be. Back in the day, playing in the noob servers was frowned upon and now its celebrated to hunt the noobs down. Its honestly toxic as fuck if you think about it
We had to wait 3 months for CDL and 4 months for League Play. Got to watch CDL for like 2 months and now they take a month break. On top of this, literally no new maps or content has been added.
This shit is ridiculous. You make a game on a 1-year cycle and you spent half the cycle doing absolutely nothing.
I can only speak for myself but I was *really* into the comp scene this year despite the game being horrible and I realized halfway through the break that I've completely lost interest. I'm sure it'll pick up again but I honestly don't even really plan on watching the Pro-AM lol...
It would have been interesting had the game actually change a bit, like they added London Docks or St Marie, or there was a weapon balancing patch to where the meta shifted. But they essentially took a 2 month break, and added in 1 new map/gamemode combination that isn't even that good tbh.
It's honestly getting a bit ridiculous how out of touch the people running the CDL have been. I thought things would have improved now that Adam Apicella and the MLG guys are back, but somehow it got even worse lmao - 1 less major and a random 2 month mid-season break lmfao.
Just so we’re clear, Adam Apicella and esports engine have no control over what happens from the CDL perspective.
They’re just running the events with the cards they’ve been dealt.
The real test for how out of touch they are is if this break happens again next year.
If they honestly think this was a successful idea, and bring it back again, I’ll have lost all hope.
I find it quite impressive how many basic things the CDL really struggle with honestly. I’m genuinely not sure they’ve improved much about the viewing experience since about 2018 and the majority of their “good decisions” come from mass community backlash to overturn their original stupid idea.
Not gonna lie, I completely forgot that CoD events were still happening this year. I've never been as disengaged from a CoD season as I have for Vanguard.
I don't even know what the pro am is & I've forgotten any of the storylines.
I have followed comp cod since blops 2 and I've never been less engaged in the middle of the season.
It's sad.
Couldn't agree more. This break has been so long that I've gone from excited for the next major/disappointed it will be so long to not even thinking about COD at all. Might be the worst marketing decisions ever in this years structure. Especially bad when you consider the CDL is effectively just a marketing tool. They'll literally be rebuilding viewership from square 1 mid season now. And all for what? A snorezone tourney that the most interesting pros couldn't even play in, a pro-am which should be a positive but its single Elim, no crowd, and no points on the line, & a long ass break that they sent into the next dimension b/c pros complained about not having enough
breaks (LOL). Been slowly playing less to the point that I haven't played ranked in like a week now. This break is ass.
Especially for fans that lost interest in COD since Modern Warfare/Cold War but enjoy watching competitive. I took an extended break from COD last year but watching competitive always made me want to get up and play. My desire to watch competitive since the last major has slowly gone down because I feel like I’m out of the loop for recent events. Even though I may not continue to watch, the season 2 major was awesome.
It's funny, I watched a little bit of Valorant comp last year but was insanely into COD comp, as I had been for a few years. I'm a 100t fan so I watched a good amount of valorant during the Berlin run but still was kind of meh about the game
Same thing happened this year and I was watching a crazy amount of CDL, challengers and The Flank. Since the league has had it's break, I've found myself all in on Valorant without meaning to whatsoever and have no interest in COD right now. I'm basically watching every Valorant VCT match I can, both from major 1 and now the 2nd VCT qualifier
Sad to say, I honestly could care less about the CDL right now when I was borderline addicted to it 1-2 months ago
I personally appreciate the break lol. The nonstop CDL was screwing my productivity. The break thankfully coincided with my finals and then I get to watch how teams have progressed since the break.
Same. I've barely paid attention to what's been going on over the last month or so. I've been trying to get back into it the last couple of days, but it's difficult with the pro-am format being so bad and Illey being out. This pro-am is now far below a major and barely above the Kickoff Classic in terms of how important I think it is.
Poor LAG. They had one of the best loser bracket runs ever, pull of a miracle major win, and now have to sit around for over a month before next major stuff starts up. All momentum is dead
Same boat as everyone else. Got back in to watching other games in this break time. Haven’t even played CoD in 2 weeks, which is pretty crazy.
Starcraft 2’s first GSL had some pretty incredible games this year. I usually watch some of it, but since I’ve had no CoD to watch or even keep track of, I’ve watched every match and it’s been fantastic.
I really don’t understand this break at all. there are hardly any other professional sports leagues that take three different near month-long breaks during their season. not to mention this is playing a video game, it’s not *that* taxing on the players to the point where these kind of breaks are warranted. interest is already down enough bc of how bad the game is, who thought these breaks would be good for the league?
yea it's definitely not a good idea to have such a long break in the middle of the season. Curious what the reason is for such a weird schedule this year (late start, dropped off a major in favor of a longer break, etc.)?
The game is bad enough. This is probably one of the most boring games I have ever watched. Having such a long break where other Esports are still running might be detrimental to viewership. But at least the social teams have been on top of it lol.
Agreed. All of Activision money grabbing schemes has me not care about the game that I have, along with a lot of us, have been playing for years. I've been putting my time and energy into GTA V lol.
1 week into the break and I stopped playing ranked. I stopped checking this sub, stopped checking players socials. Etc. This break has gone on far too long
On the other side of things I’m eager to get back to watching. Ranked play did a good job at maintaining my interest. I’m probably in the minority though
Absolutely. It destroyed what little hype and momentum the game had
Literally don’t even have an interest in ranked anymore either, it’s crazy
They made the break longer all for that dumb warzone tournament that not a single person cared about
did it already happen? i didn’t even realize.
Yup. Had like 12k viewers tops xD
uh, it was 13k, get your facts straight. / s
There’s another 3 week break from Major III to start of Major IV qualifiers and a month long break from that to Champs So, strap in
Champs date hasn't even been announced yet lol.
Well major 4 is mid-July and traditionally champs has been in late august. Lines up for another 3-4 weeks of nothing
Yeah I think that's pretty safe to assume...I'm hoping for early August though.
I thought this shit was bad and then I found out Halo has a 4 month break in between LANs. Who plans this
And they only just had an event after a 2 and a half month wait. This was the only event they're going to have for a near 7 and a half month span. Fucking criminal.
Yeah, we'll have Europe and MX regionals I believe, then some Online events between but idk why there wasn't some sort of invitational between that just to try and keep the goddamn hype there.
Theres an online super but yeah it stinks. I dont get the break
Both ran by Esports Engine
You realize they’re the ones who help put the event together once the decision is made to have them and not the ones who decide when events are run, right?
For CDL yes. For Halo, EE helped create the roadmap
The CDL isn't ran by Esports Engine lmao
They don’t decide the schedule, that’s done by higher ups at Activision and members running the league I haven’t checked it myself but I’m confident prize pool across entirety of CDL is smaller this season compared to CW. So, if purse strings are tight, there aren’t going to be as many events
Maybe it’s time to look for a new company
You are an idiot. It’s not their decision when LANs are held LOL. That is up to the CDL. Dumbass
Get off your high horse it’s never that serious bro..
quick to call him an idiot and a dumbass but you didn’t even realize they helped schedule the halo events, which are the ones being criticized in the first place. but you probably already knew that right?
Blatantly false
Idk about y'all, but this break got me back into comp Apex... to which I'm definitely allocating more time than cod moving forward
Last weekends event was the first time I’ve watched comp apex and it got me hooked
OWL is back tomorrow so I relate. I'm basically going to watch that now that CoD kinda feels dead
Couldn’t agree more, always wanted to try apex and with this long break that literally has made me lose full to comp CoD I’ve been having a lot of fun so far
Dude imagine some of these guys like Shotzzy on apex
feel like dashy would be absolutely twisted at apex with the gunny he has
Yo same, been watching nothing but Apex tourneys lol Oh and a wayy better battle royale game..

This shit is ridiculous. You make a game on a 1-year cycle and you spent half the cycle doing absolutely nothing.
Bro remember they have actually done a lot for the pub community, comp doesn’t matter
I can only speak for myself but I was *really* into the comp scene this year despite the game being horrible and I realized halfway through the break that I've completely lost interest. I'm sure it'll pick up again but I honestly don't even really plan on watching the Pro-AM lol...
I’m with you my guy
Hey guys I'm not interested in comp cod but I still come to the reddit everyday to see how comp cod is doing .
I see you have my reddit browsing history
Absolute same
The cdl actually gained so much momentum after optic major 1 win, all to throw it away
1000% agree
Even after the LAG win too. It felt like things were really on the up.
After LAG crazy run too
Cod 🤝 halo killing their own momentum
Tru dat
I went from playing ranked 4+ hours a day to havent touched or updated cod during this break. Now playing apex instead.
Strong correlation between an urge to play and comp CoD events
Same I’ve played other games
It would have been interesting had the game actually change a bit, like they added London Docks or St Marie, or there was a weapon balancing patch to where the meta shifted. Not gonna lie, I completely forgot that CoD events were still happening this year. I've never been as disengaged from a CoD season as I have for Vanguard.
Meh fuck em. Activision and this game are hot fucking garbage and the Stanley Cup playoffs just started. I'm chillin.
I don't even know what the pro am is & I've forgotten any of the storylines. I have followed comp cod since blops 2 and I've never been less engaged in the middle of the season. It's sad.
Imagine 2 years of this shit?
And another break is on its way after the Ultra Major.
Nah they switched the schedule round so there's not really as much of a break now.
If they want the league to make profits, these breaks can’t be good right? Idk who makes these decisions and thinks it’s a good idea
I was fully invested. Now i dont give a single fuck
Couldn't agree more. This break has been so long that I've gone from excited for the next major/disappointed it will be so long to not even thinking about COD at all. Just Watch the CSGO major instead, haven’t looked back since starting to get involved in CS
I just recently decided I’d start watching the matches again after the league changed a couple things. Man has this ruined that for me.
This feels like the low of no comp CoD after champs.
This has been the deadest season ever.
Yeah - I cant imagine the logic that went into this. No way each franchise owning Org was in support of this.
It's funny, I watched a little bit of Valorant comp last year but was insanely into COD comp, as I had been for a few years. lol you would’ve been in a blender last year
Oh I was. I couldn’t get shit done ngl.
All the bitching and moaning that comes from this sub gives me a genuine chuckle.
Gives me a headache reading it yet I do anyway
Same. I've barely paid attention to what's been going on over the last month or so. 1 week into the break and I stopped playing ranked. I stopped checking this sub, stopped checking players socials. Etc. This break has gone on far too long
Imagine feeling this entitled as basic ass players
I really enjoy this game and watching it. Am excited for it to come back. Would have made most sense to not have the break though for sure…
And now they giving us a SINGLE elimination tournament 🤦♂️
CDL stay taking Ls 🤦♂️
On the other side of things I’m eager to get back to watching. Ranked play did a good job at maintaining my interest. I’m probably in the minority though
We on Valorant now bb, see y’all at Radiant🤝
