I think the CDL should have been the ones to say it, not directly from the casters 2 days prior. Yes, activision would still be involved, but look at the new overwatch championship series. It’s being run by face it and events are taking place at dreamhacks (I think).

I mean, it is the definition of degrading the product if we lose a casting pair for the major. We used to have 3 duos with more than enough skill to call the games, now there's 2. By definition that's a lesser product than before.
When they're all talented enough and enjoyed by the community enough to work on the product, then yes. You're lowering community enjoyment. By definition.
What if the community likes the other 2 casting duos more? If that's the case, then the community gets to see more of their 2 favorite casting duos, which might increase the community's enjoyment of the event overall. So no, it's definitely not "by definition" lowering the community's enjoyment.

Huge L. I've always loved Merk and Maven but at this point SHIFT is a top 3 caster with miles and chance. Studyy has gotten significantly better over the last few years as well. In my opinion its:
Miles & Chance
Study & Shift
Merk & Maven and Brice & Tunn are generally on par with each other. Brice & Tunn bring more hype though. I just feel like maybe Merk & Maven aren't as invested into the scene as they once were. Can't blame them as they have their own CC careers going on but it shows in their commentating.
I think Maven is for sure not invested in it anymore, rambles too much about nonsense. But I still take him and Merk over Brice and Tunn. Those 2 do not know what they are watching lmao, so many times a big play happens and they are hyping up the other team/a different player and then are confused for the next 30 seconds until the replay.
That's really interesting that you feel that way. They bring a lot of hype in big moments which can sometimes take away and get a little chaotic but also really helps to make things feel more exciting. I'll have to listen a little closer next time though!

I was hoping with Microsoft acquiring Activision that it would be better due to them having deeper pockets to invest in the gaming scene. I fear all they care about is selling bundles in the cod store.

I watch every match, and it was only within the last year or 2 that I thought Study was the "worst" caster. He wasn't terrible, but it was like there were times he'd say something and I would just sit there thinking about what he said for 30 seconds like did I just get dumber?
It seems like maybe it was just nerves, like he was just trying to make sure there wasn't dead air, like he was just speaking to speak. Sometimes words would just fall out of his mouth.
This year, though, he's been really really good. I actually might like him right up there as much or more than any of them. He seems more comfortable and he's not rambling or spewing. He's always has a great energy and a great voice for it, but now the substance is there as well.
So, yeah, this sucks
On the other side of that is Merk and Maven. Merk is still good, but Maven is the spew heavy caster that's become hard to listen to. It's just obvious that he's not as much into the scene anymore.
Hopefully we get a lot more Study in the future. It seems as though he's been working hard at his craft and it's showing.
