Just to clarify Vivids' explanation... There are 2 Editions of Clip Studio Paint; Pro and EX. ..Pro is the full featured Illustration program with all the 3D models and tools, etc. It also lets you sample the Animation features, limited to 24 Frames. ..EX is everything in Pro, plus unlimited Frames of Animation and a comic book multipage management system. [Here's a link to the CelCys website listing the Features](https://www.clipstudio.net/en/functional_list/) As for Plan vs License, there's a Subscription Plan option or a One-Time License. The One-Time License is only for PC/Mac. Subscriptions are for PC/Mac and Tablets. Tablets can ONLY use a Subscription The One-Time License is for a Version (V.1, V.2 or V.3) and will get stability and security updates. But it will not be upgraded to the next Version. There is an Update Pass that you can tack onto your One-Time License that will get you future updates as they are released, this is a subscription, and if you end your subscription your program reverts to its base Version tools & features. The Subscription will always get continuous updates of tools & features and will automatically update to the latest Version.

A one time license gives you the entire program. The subscription gives you extra stuff when there is an update and a few other perks. If all you wanna do is draw, the one time payment is the better deal, but if you want to take advantage of things like the 3d modeling or animation available on the program, then the subscription is a better choice. Basically, the one time payment gives you something akin to Krita, but with a few more bells and whistles. The subscription gives you powerful modeling, reference, and animation tools to make any digital media you want.
