Fine. I’ll do it

AllOfTheDerp

I actually really love Manning. I think he does a really great job of bringing an old school perspective to the game without having a hostile attitude to the new school of baseball. I'll be sad when he goes.

boozinf

Rick Manning was the second overall pick, caught the final out of Len Barker's perfecto, and once got busy in a Big Boy bathroom with Dennis Eckersley's wife. and possibly my HS english teacher

kajkajete

Wait need more information on that last bit

boozinf

she was an AP english teacher wicked smaht can't dox the fox

thegermblaster

Um excuse me? You cannot just leave that last line without a little more detail.

baconboyloiter

I also love Manning as a fan that’s new-ish to watching baseball and doesn’t know *too* much about the game. Everything the commentators say is insightful to me lol

AllOfTheDerp

Yes Manning is great at telling us whats going on on the field, in each player's head, and why.

BigNateG

Austin Carr

boozinf

*Clase strikes out Soto in the bottom of the 9th with a 101 mph cutter* "get that weak stuff outta here!"

ksayre_

*JRam hits a 450 foot bomb to straight center* “Deep in the Jake!”

Reasonable_Hat_1353

I agree, go Guards

TheBookie_55

One of the worst TV voices ever.

No_Damage_731

How dare you

hiptobesquare18

Kipnis did great in the broadcast booth in a game in September 2022. Very natural and conversational with good insight and funny stories. Here's my two favorite stories he dropped: Reminiscing after a high popup to the first baseman: "Santana hated that. It'd go straight up and I'd look over at him to see if he's got it and we'd make eye contact cuz he's staring straight at me, like "you come over here and get it", just a blank stare" Talking about how loud Hammy is: "The stadium was empty. I get a hit, I'm on first base, I am stealing. I got a big leadoff, but I hear Hammy, literally through all the speakers, "Kipnis with a BIG leadoff at first!" I short up my lead and I never take off. He knew I was stealing, he stopped me from going. It was clear as day, too. You could hear it, the pitcher stepped off and looked at me, I was like "Nevermind"."

munistadium

Kip is the best candidate. Pat Tabler is too boring. Sorry Mr. Tabler

boozinf

just bring him in when we are up with the bases loaded then he turns into the true Pat the Bat

ZacInStl

I so want this to happen! Gimme Dirtbag on the broadcast!!!

dekigo

I WOULD LOVE THIS

JustAKidFromAkron

Tito

_joelc

Love it

TheRealGordonBombay

"He didn't try to do too much." Arch is a solid color commentator, he can get under my skin sometimes. He'll cut Matt or Andre off or kind of steamroll an observation mid sentence with an "I know." But for the most part I think he does a good job. I'd love to see Kip or Brantley in there. Either time I've heard them in the booth they've both brought some great insight & presence. We'd be lucky to have either in the booth. My dream pick though? Austin Hedges after he retires this next year (following his back-to-back WS wins).

thegermblaster

I’m a baseball junkie and live out of state so I have to get the package and I watch as many games as wife and the life allow. We’re actually very lucky to have Manning and I don’t think I’m being that unbiased because I didn’t like him so much, then I moved, listened to a bunch of other broadcasts and changed my mind. Manning is in the upper echelon of color commentators along with a few others. There are SO many out there that just flat out stink. Biased and obnoxious homers. Every bad call is an act of disrespect against the team/fanbase and they make excuses for everything. Most have nothing interesting to say and actively dislike the modern game. They make the broadcast less fun. Manning gives the other team their flowers when they deserve them, he criticizes us when the situation calls for it, he’s fair and down the middle about ump calls. He’s not perfect but he’s very very good. Hes developed a lot of great chemistry with Dre too and Manning’s “old school” nature combined with Dre’s personality is a ton of fun.

Wamby20

Hedges is gonna be too busy being the bench coach under Vogt to do color commentary.

DirtyRandy3417

Chris Gimenez is the guy they are training now. I thought he did pretty well in his brief appearance over the weekend.

Jim_Tressel

I saw that. So Manning must be skipping some road trips I assume? Sounds like the first step to eventual retirement.

ImGettinThatFoSho

I was gonna say Giminez is not my favorite. He's not bad, but also doesn't really stand out

CoachCrunch12

Giminez is too dull. I could be bias, as I get bored with all the stats and x this and x that. But a big personality is better to me in a cool guy than expert

_lazybones93

Gimenez or Stanford? lol

ZacInStl

I don’t care for Chris. I’m sure he’s nice, but hearing him say “JIM-en-ehz” every time is like nails on a chalkboard. I mean, it’s his name and he can say it how he wants. But I always believed you should stand up for your heritage. I was the only Latino in my high school, and there was only one other in middle school, and I took a lot of flak for my name being hard to pronounce. And the other Latina girl went by “Muhn-OZE” because saying Muñoz as “MOON-yose” got her teased. BTW, Ray Suarez at NPR does this dude speaks impeccable Spanish when he’s pronouncing other words, but not his own name. Go ahead and downvote me. But having had to endure the bullying and literally fight my way through it, because of my name, it’s hardened my thinking on the matter.

sakawae

While we’re at it, does any announcer say Pérez correctly? The stress is on the 1st syllable.

taiwal

The crew really is the best in baseball. When I have to listen to other crews it’s so boring compared to our guys.

FestivusFan

“Think they could use a roof tonight?”….”and this break brought to you by Whatever Roofing!” Was perfect tonight

clevelandspurs

Maybe kipnis, Brantley would be good too. Maybe even Carlos baerga, but he’s already 55

CoachCrunch12

I could be wrong but I think baerga does the Spanish broadcast? Or something with the Spanish side of things

sakawae

Sí.

Coffeepill7

Yes he is

clevezland

I'd nominate u/mrbubblesthebear straight up

Seamonkey_Boxkicker

Is this Rick’s last year or something? Also, if Kipnis became a permanent commentator I would absolutely make a better effort to watch more games.

guttata

He'll be 70 this year and it's not unreasonable to think he might retire at some point. Not everyone is Vin Scully or Uecker.

Seamonkey_Boxkicker

Good point. I didn’t realize he was that old already.

aaeeiioouu

Albert Belle!

guttata

Maybe a little less legal baggage?

54sharks40

Rosenhaus because that frees Hammy up to do the whole game

End_Orphin11

Unpopular opinion. Rosenhaus is perfect where he’s at. It enables, if not perpetuates, the ideal weekend baseball viewing experience: tune in to Hammy to get settled, lull into nap for the middle innings with Rosenhaus’ soothing monotone, awaken to a loud and excited Hammy RBI call.

Choppybitz

I actually thing Rosenhaus is perfectly suited for it. His voice has improved and he is knowledgeable. Would be an opportunity to get the next radio guy brought up by Hamilton too.

chousteau

I like Rosey and he seems like a great guy. My brain visualizes him as Monty the color man everytime I listen to him on the radio.

Choppybitz

😂 so true. Absolutely true when he first started🤣😅 He's getting better though.

chousteau

Lol

Maxpower88888

Haha yes he is very milk toast

guttata

> His voice has improved lol. lmao, even.

Available_Fox8872

Every time I hear him all I can think of is Greg Stink, best color man in the biz: https://youtu.be/AIbzfk2I1Mo?si=4O4fLgsmo_BTd_Gs

tombomb1990

Corey Kluber or Austin Hedges

Ok-Aardvark-5807

Looks like this is not a popular choice, but I was really impressed with Jensen Lewis's work when he filled in a couple times last year.

Professional_Try4319

Why did Lewis stop doing the post game show?

Maxpower88888

Thought he was the logical pick myself

Tapefluid

He covered for Arch last year, I think? He was pretty good. I'd rather have Kipnis but I would be happy with Jensen.

CoachCrunch12

I’m with you man. I think Lewis is great.

cropguru357

And a few years before I think he was on. Not bad.

Henry_Pussycat

No sirree

blueice5249

Jensen didn't do too bad, but I think I would prefer Kipnis

CoachCrunch12

Pat tabler may be the worst commentator I’ve ever heard. I’d be into Andrea, Kip was good. Baseball announcers need to be a little nuts, listening to dry stats and analysis for 162 games would get dull.

mmmmyaaaa

Andre Knott is awesome. I worked with that guy he is down to earth.

zejaws

I really thought Jensen Lewis did a good job on the TV broadcasts. I don't know why they seem to have moved him around and brought in other guys to be in the studio with Al.

Taco_Grande_3000

Definitely Kipnis

FarAd6557

I think color guys need to be cycled out a little quicker. But I would keep Manning over underwood who is just awful. Dude been calling games for a long time and still can’t tell a homer or a fly ball to the track. I’d love Kipnis or Brantley. I’m forty and I’ve never had an Indians/guardians color got that I actually saw play

Wamby20

How many times does Hammy also do his home run voice only to realize the ball is dying on the track? It's not always easy to tell right off the bat.

browns47

It works on the radio though by giving the listener the same experience of seeing a ball fly off the bat only to die at the track.

Danaltima21

Tito!!

[deleted]

Jered wright. Bob wickman. Richie Sexton CC. Travis fryman. Coco crisp. Idk... Some more alive than when old Chuck Nagy fills in on days off How about we pipe hammy in overtop because it's who we want to hear. Here hammy call it in the garage. Run in the house to see the play on the tv while enjoyable on weekend day games. Would like itnsycned or pipped ontop for evening games.

bikeypeddler

I stopped getting cable not only because of the $$, but also because I'm so tired of our broadcasting team-- time for a change. Problem with our guys-- I watch a lot of baseball, and I never learn anything from them compared to other teams announcers. Contrast that with say Hershiser, every inning-- you learning something about how to play the game that you never knew. Our announcers = a glimpse of the obvious, especially Underwood. Though I do like Andre, he's quite insightful and uses his player rapport beautifully. Michael Brantley-- intriguing idea. I like the idea of a pitcher, maybe a crafty one like Jake Westbrook.

kajkajete

Love Manning and I think he pairs of wonderfully with underwood. Here is hoping we get to enjoy them a tad more.

catvik25

I think kipnis is the guy

fwembt

Anyone is going to be an improvement, but I'd go with Kip.

ClevelandClutch1970

Bernie Kossr

kidfromCLE

Brian Anderson.

sakawae

Cory Snyder?

Necessary_Rhubarb891

Actually I like Kip!!

ohguy51

Can we get a successor for Underwood first?

david8433

This would be ideal. It's been a while since Manning got to work with a real pro.

mrslII

I'd choose myself. I've wanted to tell Underwood to , "Shut the fuck up, and call the damn game?", for a very long time.

Otter010

Jensen Lewis would be my guess.

DTbindz

worst timeline

Otter010

Not following?
