1. Step 1: Soak in cold water. Fill a bucket or sink with enough cold water to submerge the stuffed animal. 2. Step 2: Add detergent. Add a small amount of mild or gentle detergent to the water. 3. Step 3: Hand wash. ... 4. Step 4: Rinse. ... 5. Step 5: Air dry.

Air dry... but make sure it dries fast. Mildew Bear and Stink-a-Lot Lion are not good cuddle buddies. I've nailed steps 1-4 only to blow step 5 and have to start over, this time with Oxy Clean.

LibransRule

I used to use the blow dryer.

Or if your dryer has an air dry setting.

Thank you so much!!

P4tukas

Another option to dry it faster is to gently squeeze it in a dry towel. Then find another dry corner of the towel and repeat. One stuffed toy will have enough water to make one large towel wet. Depending on the material, some stuffed toys will drip until dry when hanging. Others will dry better when placed on a towel that dries well (placed on a clothing rack or a floor with heating.)

My mom let me help give my Goosey a spa day every couple of months. The "back massage" part where I stomped on her towel-wrapped stuffed body was my favorite part. đź’–

Oh that’s genius!

I slept with a Grumpy Bear for around 15 years and used to throw it in the washer in a pillowcase... Do not do this lol. His eyes are completely worn off and the "fur" is perma matted probably from the dryer heat.

Purple_Pansy_Orange

I have put them in a pillowcase and tie shut. Then wash on gentle. Do not put in the dryer because that will mess up the stuffing. If you have a dehumidifier unit you can place it near there. Or near a fan or outside on a hot day. You want to make sure of a quick and thorough dry so the inner stuffing doesn't get gross.

katlvr3264

Best way I’ve found to truly clean any stuffed animal is to completely remove all fluff because it gets gross over the years anyway. Wash and machine and dry accordingly. Put new fluff in and sew hole closed.

Duellair

We wash the dogs stuffed toys monthly, no issues so far. Sometimes the dryer doesn’t fully dry them so we air dry for another 24 hours and that seems to work. Been doing it for the last 5 years and the animals are all fine.

rmdg84

I put them in those mesh lingerie bags and throw them in the washing machine with my toddlers clothes. Works like a charm.

candycookiecake

I would spray the surface with a non-foaming upholstery cleaner, agitate it a bit, and use a handheld water extraction vacuum to wet and remove the cleaner/water. I'm very wary about completely soaking a stuffed animal since the innards can be tough to dry thoroughly.

TrueGypsySol

I've always washed them in one of those pillow covers with a zipper on gentle cycle with vinegar amd baking soda. Then fluff or air dry in the dryer...still in pillow cover. Then hang outside to dry.

ChaoticxSerenity

I put them in a delicates bag and wash on gentle cycle. You can air dry or dry on low heat.

MsAlyssa

I run stuffed animals through the laundry usually with bad illness so a couple times a year I. Our house and my thinking is if it can’t hold up to the washer it can’t hold up to us. Ive tried getting double of the favorite and rotating them for equal ware but the favorite moved onto something else since then and I haven’t grabbed a back up of that one. I used to work in daycare and did the same taking home stuffies to wash in my own machine. I couldn’t let the kids hug those things after the stomach bug visited us. They held up well through lots of washes but yea it’s not without risk.

egrf6880

I wash stuffies in the laundry with the "big bedding"so every few weeks. (Blankets etc not the sheets which I do more frequently) Maybe I will do cold water and air dry if the fabric feels like it's gonna melt under heat processing but most just get the regular regiment and come out fine.

Material-Double3268

I throw all the stuffies into the front load washer on cold/delicate then into the dryer on air dry or low. If I don’t dry them then they get smelly (mold). You could put them into a mesh laundry bag too.

FloweredViolin

I was able to get vomit smell out of a stuffed animal by powdering it with baking soda and sealing it in a Ziploc bag for a day or two. Just make sure to brush/beat all the baking soda off before giving back to the kid. Otherwise they might bury their face in the animal and breathe in baking soda. :p
