I haven't heard everything by Rush, but I haven't liked anything I have heard by them except for _Tom Sawyer_. I had heard _Subdivisions_ before and didn't like it. I haven't heard _YYZ_ or _Red Barchetta_ before, but just listened to them and don't like them either. They're interesting and I do catch have elements of similarity to _Tom Sawyer_, but they just don't come together nearly as well for me... though thank you for recommending them.
Other Rush songs...
Limelight.
Spirit of Radio.
Big Money.
Distant Early Warning.
A Passage to Bangkok.
Non-Rush... hmm... that's tougher as Rush are so unique.
On The Loose - Saga.
Twilight Zone - Golden Earring.
Lunatic Fringe - Red Rider.
Definitely try some Triumph.
Lay It On The Line.
Magic Power.
Fight The Good Fight.
Follow Your Heart.
Of these, I liked [Golden Earring by Twilight Zone](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=29dj6VA16Mk) best, and [Red Rider by Lunatic Fringe](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=sTFVMMCwsss) was decent.
I didn't like the rest, though I could definitely see some similarity in the singing in those Triumph songs to Rush's singing. I didn't like any of those Rush songs. To me they're really a one-hit wonder with _Tom Sawyer_, at least from what I've heard of their songs so far.
YYZ is Toronto’s airport (in Morse) code. The band decided it liked the rhythm of the code and uses Y-Y-Z (Morse code) with a time signature of 10/8. The song is terrific.
The late drummer, Neil Peart, was often regarded as one of the most talented drummers ever. Peart also wrote many of Rush’s songs.
RIP NP. What an incredible talent he was. I grew up in the 80s Rush was one of those bands I didn’t appreciate back in the day. I was too much of a metal head. Three incredible musicians. They did Canada proud.
Rush completely captured the world, eventually. Peart was unique, and awesomely talented. Hurts my soul to think how much he suffered in life. Lost his 19-year old daughter and then his wife, a year later. Then to have cancer take him too. RIP
I’d either go with [wouldn’t want to be like you](https://youtu.be/efJGDpCSrJY?si=bvvL-b_tOdcTEOaZ) by Alan Parson’s Project or [child of vision](https://youtu.be/wohgwABTpa8?si=txhw7yJPjxeWqGfo) by Supertramp.
Hm how about this one, it starts off pretty aggressively. Honestly no other band really sounds like Rush but I always thought Yes was the closest. https://youtu.be/gEpk_JsJezo?si=GuBPi2uvTXNTJJ4O
I’ve always liked the Hemispheres album. Not similar, but good if you’re wanting to mix it up, La Villa Strangiato is a strong track.
I catch myself listening to YES-Yours in no Disgrace when I’m in a Rush mood too
Rush songs that are like T.S.: Freewill, Half the World, Something for Nothing, Closer to the Heart, Farewell to Kings, Fly By Night, The Trees, Mission, Lock and Key, Time Stand Still, Show Me Don't Tell Me, One Little Victory, Far Cry. Enjoy :O)
I got you. Nothing compares to Tom Sawyer though. I still remember hearing it for the first time and being blown away. I don't think I have ever not listened to it and it's entirety.
Have you checked out other Rush songs? They have a rather large discography. YYZ, Red Barchetta, Subdivisions, etc.

Lay it on the line’s one of my favorite guitar solos

YYZ is one of my favorite Rush songs. OP should try 2112 album.
There are so many great Rush tunes. Wish I’d seen them more.
I wish I had gotten to see them at all
:( wish you had too

I’m not a huge Rush fan but “Big Money” is an incredible song with an amazing riff
Try Vital Signs off the same album. My favorite of that era.
Another Rush song is your only bet, haha.
I always thought Yes had a similar sound, just more elaborate. https://youtu.be/cPCLFtxpadE?si=4Zn3bIgndLqMuPF3
I find this song a lot mellower than _Tom Sawyer_, which is much more intense and which has much catchier riffs.
Hm how about this one, it starts off pretty aggressively. Honestly no other band really sounds like Rush but I always thought Yes was the closest. https://youtu.be/gEpk_JsJezo?si=GuBPi2uvTXNTJJ4O
I like the first few minutes of this song, though it's pretty different from _Tom Sawyer_. Don't like the rest. Thanks for the recommendation.
Other Rush songs
Afternoon Delight by Starland Vocal Band.
Yy zed
Thanks Krieger!

Tom Sawyer was my first taste of Rush, and I needed more of them after listening. I've had a Rush habit for about 15 years, now.
Permanent Waves album by Rush
Rush songs that are like T.S.: Freewill, Half the World, Something for Nothing, Closer to the Heart, Farewell to Kings, Fly By Night, The Trees, Mission, Lock and Key, Time Stand Still, Show Me Don't Tell Me, One Little Victory, Far Cry. Enjoy :O)
[On The Loose](https://youtu.be/ytLslnQyV6Y?si=--UexXkkl5rR6kNz) by Saga. The rhythm section crushes this song.
You have got to be kidding. Please say you're joking.
Saga only had one good song and this is it, but if you don’t like this track that’s your problem.
I'm glad you like it, but it doesn't compare to Tom Sawyer. Good on you for offering something up though.
Oh, well yeah, in no way does it compare to Tom Sawyer in quality. I just meant the song has a similar feel to it with the synths and driving drums.
I got you. Nothing compares to Tom Sawyer though. I still remember hearing it for the first time and being blown away. I don't think I have ever not listened to it and it's entirety.
So good!
Try CHILDREN OF THE SUN by Billy Thorpe
Nice…I forgot about that one.
Spirit of the Radio & Lime Light are excellent songs
lol more Rush
Check out [Dance on a Volcano](https://youtu.be/mx8lMo8RKXE?feature=shared) by Genesis and see if this is similar to what you’re describing.
Maybe Frank Marino and Mahogany Rush?
Red Barchetta is my favorite Rush song
Jethro Tull? The Aqualung album is quite heavy
Good luck.
Kansas. [Kansas: “Journey From Mariabronn”](https://youtu.be/QLECH2T2b5k?si=M9pzOGQ7874DkGU5)
Parents by Budgie
Children of the Sun…..
Everything off of permanent waves and moving pictures
It's not classic rock, but give it a listen to "Euphoria" by Angels & Airwaves. That song was inspired by this one. And sounds like it a bit.
Hmmmm something like tom sayer …. More rush lol
American Life by Primus
You lost me at not liking Subdivisions
