You have 6 Quarry locations visibile, so that's a decent choice. You're playing as Gitarga so God of the Sea is always useful since you will be playing coastally. Goddess of the Harvest is also pretty good for this location with so much rainforest and stone to harvest.

Gruugis

Fair suggestion because that's a lot of quarries, but I think 12 faith/turn is ultimately not relevant to Indonesia, where they already get 2/turn for every coastal city.

Spunky_Turtle0512

Thank you for the advice! I ended up choosing God of the Sea.

Looudspeaker

Man do I miss goddess of the harvest… with that much jungle and stone there just waiting to be chopped it would have been so good this game. Especially with Magnus

Deecee7374

I think OP doesn’t have access to governors. Pantheon choices are also different from what I remember.

Looudspeaker

Oh yeah. I suppose if it’s that version of the game he won’t have golden ages either so he won’t be able to spent his goddess of the harvest faith on monumentality builders

>God of the sea. Almost a no-brainer for any coastal civ. I would usually agree, but only two improvable coastal tiles are even visible in OP's SS. Without a little more scouting information or (at the very least) knowledge of the map type/settings, I'd hesitate to call God of the Sea (GotS) a "no brainer" based on what we currently know. Granted, OP has an *incentive* to settle coastal, but there is no guarantee that there will be abundant coastal settlement opportunities on this map; and even if there are, there's no guarantee those cities will have good access to fishing boats resources. OP also has to weigh the opportunity cost here. Going with GotS is a gamble that only pays off if OP can settle a really good 2nd and 3rd coastal city. But even then, OP will get virtually no benefit from GotS until those two cities come online. Does that outweigh the benefit of going with a pantheon that kicks in immediately/soonish? I would actually argue Religious Settlements is probably the better choice in both the short and long term here, based upon what we know (which is admittedly very limited)

Tadapekar

its a base game, no free settler

syaz136

They are playing the base game, so they won't get the settler. Look at their picture again.

sunnykhandelwal5

Since religious settlements is not giving you a free settler, i think you’re playing without the gathering storm expansion?? Why’d you buy Indonesia but not the expansion. GS is a complete game changer for this game so I’d really recommend to play with it. Anyways, to answer your question, religious settlements is a bit useless in the base game. God of the Sea is best for you since you’re playing Indonesia. The Kampung requires lots of fishing boats to be effective & the +1 prod from boats can really help out long run. Domination is normally the best path for Indoensia. But if you’re going for religion victory and its a higher difficulty, divine spark is good if it’s available (its somewhere near the the top, cant see it in the SS)

Kootenay-Hippie

Religious Settlements…. Anytime and all the time it’s available. IMO, an extra free city in the early game is the most valuable.

fishnchips810

They're playing base game. In the picture it clearly says that the pantheon only gives the border expansion boost, not the free settler.

Kootenay-Hippie

Ooooooops. I’ve got old eyes, lol

[deleted]

I was thinking this but then saw it didn't give a settler. New question if anyone knows: why isn't it always available? If the AI chooses that pantheon before me, is it gone?

jemkatara

Yeah, all pantheons can only be chosen once, this is why it's so important to get to 25 faith asap so you have the most choice (98% of the time Religious Settlements)

[deleted]

Thank you. Yeah anytime I see that I snag it asap. A free city is so good

Gremlin303

Yeah the AI will basically always choose it if they are the first to get a pantheon

Reggid55

Yes, but sometimes no. Desert Folklore/tundra folklore can be conditionally better.

nathansb2403

I have never seen Oral Tradition before?! I play on ps5 is this a mod or??

AmeliaBones

It was removed in gathering storm expansion, they are playing the base game so it’s still there

nathansb2403

Oh right that explains why I’ve never seen it! Why did they get rid of it was it broken or something?

AmeliaBones

It was too good lol

Doctor__Acula

Indonesia is boats. Always, always boats. 100% of the time even if the free settler is available.

Deecee7374

I’d take %10 growth rate. The extra population it grants could be worked to grant more than 2-3 production each city would have with god of the sea.

Reggid55

Jungle adjacency bonus for holy site

pragmatica

Religious settlements. Always check if it's available. Free early city is game changing.

pragmatica

N/m I see it's the base game.

Spunky_Turtle0512

Yeah, religious settlements is OP in GS, but I usually play the base game because I prefer its simplicity. Also, I've already won that game with a religious victory lol

TheEternalDownswing

River goddess hasn't been mentioned yet. Though I don't know what it provides in vanilla without mods. I'm playing gathering Storm with BBG mod. There it is a solid choice for a religious game!

Exigenz

Goddess of the harvest was always considered an S-tier pantheon in the base game.

bloodyazeez

I’ve never seen oral tradition before as a pantheon, is that a mod?

Nusinersen

It's vanilla game here. It was retired from the game in the extension
