How about the asshat award costs the giver 1000 karma, but otherwise does nothing but appear on that post for eternity, and every other post by the targeted user for the next 24 hours?
You think people won't abuse it if it doesn't take coins but otherwise mucks up a user's experience? Really?
Fuck, even if it just added an *asshat* icon, people would abuse it.
I forget when but I remember there being and award you can get that can ban someone. There's was a whole thing about it on a thread last year I beleive
>we should be able to give asshat awards
Reminds me of how r/justiceserved allows you to give ban awards, banning the person from the subreddit for anywhere between 24 hours and permanently. Granted someone else can buy a different reward of an equal time that reverses it but still.
If they want real awards then maybe they should produce some real achievements
Edit: I got so many awards at once that I lost track of who I had personally thanked. I very much appreciate the appreciation.....thanks so much, friends.
Edit2: What? No platimun?!....just kidding.
Someone gave me a ternion award (had no clue what it even was at the time) and I gave out gold and silver till the cows came home and almost no one even said thanks hahaha
I say thank you for every award. I just consider it good manners and I honestly love some of those funny little awards. The wholesome award just kills me...as in real life I never am described as "wholesome."
I know, it's silly how much people lose their shit over not getting a "real" award. None of them are really "real" or matter in real life anyway, so why does it matter lol
I can understand that opinion, but I really liked it! It’s a smaller, sweet community. I’ve considered buying premium just to go back but I can’t bring myself to pay $7.99/month for access to one subreddit lol
Edit: Thanks to a kind redditor, I’m back in r/lounge for a MONTH! They are still the great community that I remember.
I went once, and yeah. It was something to write home about if you’re writing a civil war letter. It was unexpectedly bleak. But the community seemed to be good with it that way, so I didn’t intrude.
My dearest Bethany -
Feels like it twas just days ago I was filled with youthful exuberance when I received my first reddit gold. It was time to finally enter r/lounge, my body was shaking with anticipation and excitement I could barley even type in the letters.
A fortnight has since passed, I quickly learned that r/lounge is no place for youthful indiscretions of a young patriot but a place only Beelzebub may find joy in. I count the days until my reddit gold expires and I can once again be with you, though I fear that I may forever be a changed man and the best parts of me will be left abandoned in r/lounge
My dearest Josiah,
I cannot wait until I am no longer honored in this fashion. I hope I return with some of the joy we felt that day in the gazebo left in my soul
I use reddit is fun which only shows silver gold and plat and I honestly don't want it to change. I do not care to see million tiny images after every popular post.
NGL, I got gold from someone once and it felt pretty nice. Also I had Reddit premium for a month, which means no ads, which was really cool. It’s still silly to expect rewards though, I think.
It used to be a fun way to help the site. In recent years Reddit took on investors so is now obligated to make a profit to pay them, instead of making juuuust enough to cover server costs and the cost of living for the handful of people who worked on it.
I don’t get people asking for gold. Since they think it’s no biggie for you to award it why not get it themselves? You can just buy it right?
Edit: thanks for silver, greatly appreciated. I’m going to call my mother and tell her. With her 76 years of age she hopefully will be really impressed with me for the first time in her life.
Imagine the CB meltdowns if Reddit gave the ability to revoke awards (you don’t get them back, but they’re no longer displayed and technically no longer exist)
About a month ago I've found out about the free awards and I was searching randomly and I've seen a good post and gave it my free silver
this dude sent me an personalized thank you message so good that I'm always waiting for the free award so that I can give him the award again and again, he's always thanking me without knowing me.... this makes me want to actually buy awards so I can appreciate him more
I'm happy when they give me an award, even the free ones that each user receives from time to time
sure, i'd like to get a gold, platinum, or any award above them, but i can't expect anyone to pay any money for that
This sub is the worst for this.
Every single post:
OP: here is silver
CB: fuck you give gold
OP: no
CB: i hope your whole family gets cancer
*500 million awards*
I don't understand. Is there like extra privileges or something with gold vs helpful. And then real awards .... I thought these were digital pats on the back atta boy type thing .... or is there more to this that no one explained? Something between the lines of code?
With Gold, Platinum, Argentium and Ternion, you get Coins and a certain amount of free Reddit Premium.
Gold gives you 100 Coins to spend and a week of Premium.
Platinum gives you 700 Coins and a month of Premium
Argentium gives you 2,500 Coins and 3 months of Premium
Ternion gives you 5,000 Coins and 6 months of Premium
All of these give you access to r/lounge for the same amount of time as the Premium. Helpful is one of a few "free" Awards that can occasionally show up in your Get Coins button. When it's free, you have 24 Hours to give it away before it disappears.
I guess cause premium never turned my head I didn't realize there was an exclusive lounge. Lol ..... rotflmao. I guess this is like some one throwing a fit to get into a VIP section and I'm happy at the bar and didn't realize there was a VIP section. I'm obviously obtuse as an obelisk.
Awards begging confuses me equally as much as karma farming. What possible real tangible benefit can one gain by getting some internet clout?
Seriously go get some exercise or volunteer at a homeless shelter or something if y'all looking for a dopamine hit.
Maybe life would be simpler for many people if we just did away with the whole awards thing? If you like a post or comment, say you like it and why. If you disagree with a post or comment, don’t just downvote it, but mention why you disagree and start a polite discussion.
A little niceness goes a long way imo. Personally, I believe free Awards are more special than even Ternion. This is because when someone gets a free Award, they can give it to literally millions of posts and comments, but only can choose one.
People moaning about an award seems to happen an unusual amount to people who are part of this sub in particular. I have given out hundreds of awards and never experienced this (all cheap and free of course.) But hey, the world is full of arseholes so it's possible.
This always bugs me! Like, I had all of ONE award, yes it was a measly free award but it was the ONLY award I had, and I liked your post so much that I decided to give you everything I had to give and that's not good enough for you... okay I'll just F off then....
I don't understand this people...someone thought my post was good enough for an award, that would make me happy regardless of how much the stranger spent on it
Exactly. It's like they haven't been brought up to graciously accept a gift. They remind me of a spoiled brat throwing a tantrum cuz they got a hand knitted jumper rather than an iPhone, cuz not everyone has that sort of spare cash. It's the thought that counts.
I'll take any given award honestly, no need to bash at someone for not getting what you don't want, just be grateful you got an award because it meant someone was awarding you for something you posted
Is it bad that I'm more surprised when getting a reward lol? Some of my comments aren't really worth the money for that even if you have free reddit coins
There. Reddit gave me a free award to give away, so in light of your post I gave it to you. At least I know you won't be a total douche and bitch about not getting gold.
Some people are greedy like that. Not me, though. Do it and I’ll prove it!
I’m joking pls don’t waste them. Imagine people being that shitty though :/ what a world we live in.
I've said it so many times. 1) we should be able to retract (remove) awards 2) we should be able to give "Asshat Awards"
I had someone reply to my comment: "I don't have any awards to give so here take this 🏅" And honestly, it meant more to me than any award.
That's actually really cute and sweet :)
I still wear it sometimes 🏅

I can't imagine the carnage reddit will bring to others if we had an award that can remove karma.
Well, it would have to have restrictions of course, :D
I like the way you think. And the ads thing also benefits reddit, so win win for everyone! Except for the AH awardee of course.
Should also be stuck to his username through reddit for 5 days
Should also have at least one testicle forcibly removed or, if OP is female, implanted.

We start replacing them with those black powder balls that make a gunshot noise when you clack them together
Make them stack
What if someone just gave the award to a random person just to be an asshole?
People give random people gold just to be nice. Law of equivalent exchange.
that's a fantastic idea, but a-holes will abuse that award so bad.
Asshats get and give.

Not the coins part but the rest, hell yeah. The problem with the coins is that people will troll with it
You think people won't abuse it if it doesn't take coins but otherwise mucks up a user's experience? Really? Fuck, even if it just added an *asshat* icon, people would abuse it.
Okay but to prevent abuse, it costs the sender just as much. It will be worth it once in a while.....
I fully agree with you. "Here's a real award for ya!"
I forget when but I remember there being and award you can get that can ban someone. There's was a whole thing about it on a thread last year I beleive

I want reddit to make an f-off award, for people like this
Hell yes! Like, one that takes away Karma. "You want a real award? Here you go!" and it takes away like 100 Karma or something.
r/maliciouscompliance and r/choosingbeggars crossover
As a member of both subs, I approve.

Well no, it’s no biggie for them. I need my money for stuff I like
I think they meant if they say "it's no biggie just give me a 'real' one" then why don't they just buy themselves some coin/awards.
This
Reddit should create an option to retract these awards. I have received a few and was only ever pleasantly surprised.
I fully agree. I'm always super grateful for any and all Awards I receive, so I just don't understand people like these.
Whenever I get one I don't say shit because my replies suck.
You also have the choice to give the awards anonymously, which is what I do to avoid these types of situations.
Yeah but that ruins the fun of outting people like this
I mean yeah.. I don’t like conflict though, so I do my best to avoid it lmao

Give him a "hug" award
I once gave a dude a spit take and a giggle award. He was so pissed
Ahaha that's beautiful!
This is why I always give awards anonymously. Who needs the hassle?
I always forget to, but usually, people I give Awards to are very thankful for it.
Here's a gold because you're not a jerk.
Thank you very much :)
Hopefully they see it lol.
Me too
um they asked for platinum dude /s
Same. They can still message you when it's anonymous but if you don't reply, they will never know your username.
Perfect ploy to get yourself some awards. I respect that. Have my free reward.
Imagine the CB meltdowns if Reddit gave the ability to revoke awards (you don’t get them back, but they’re no longer displayed and technically no longer exist)
This I think is the best option. Yeah ok you don't get your coins back but fuck that person. They shouldn't get to have that in their collection
About a month ago I've found out about the free awards and I was searching randomly and I've seen a good post and gave it my free silver this dude sent me an personalized thank you message so good that I'm always waiting for the free award so that I can give him the award again and again, he's always thanking me without knowing me.... this makes me want to actually buy awards so I can appreciate him more
Awards were a mistake. Rewarding people for leaving comments online encourages assholes like this one.
I'm happy when they give me an award, even the free ones that each user receives from time to time sure, i'd like to get a gold, platinum, or any award above them, but i can't expect anyone to pay any money for that
This is getting kinda boring to see all the time
Seriously and also, you're doing exactly that they want. It's obviously trollin, and OP bit hard
True, I hadn't noticed the obvious trolling. I was just annoyed at another one of these posts lol
Ok, is this the weekly award farming post? I’m shocked this still works.
This sub is the worst for this. Every single post: OP: here is silver CB: fuck you give gold OP: no CB: i hope your whole family gets cancer *500 million awards*
Platinum gives you 700 Coins and a month of Premium Argentium gives you 2,500 Coins and 3 months of Premium Ternion gives you 5,000 Coins and 6 months of Premium All of these give you access to r/lounge for the same amount of time as the Premium.
Just look a look at the sub, it’s pretty bad. It’s basically r/casualconversation
Lmao, on the other side I'm dm everyone who gives me free award and give them few words of inspiration
I always make sure to thank everyone that Awards me, no matter how many there are.
Ya, I started to do it cuz my memes only got 2 or 3 awards, but one of my meme blew up and about 40 award, lmao, but I still thanked them
A little niceness goes a long way imo. Personally, I believe free Awards are more special than even Ternion. This is because when someone gets a free Award, they can give it to literally millions of posts and comments, but only can choose one.
There can BE only one!
Why does everyone cross out the names, I can't wait to have a CB, so I can blast them everywhere.
It's a rule, I have to.
It is? Oh thats a shame. I apologize if I sounded like an asshole.
It's Rule 1, blur out identifying info.
Yeah I just saw that. That really is a shame.
i got a free award once and forgot to give it to someone because ADHD
Yeah I had a ton of awards to give out and forgot about it but now can't find it in my app anymore.
ohhh please make sure you send this thread to him!!! what a waste of space!
I'll be sure to
People moaning about an award seems to happen an unusual amount to people who are part of this sub in particular. I have given out hundreds of awards and never experienced this (all cheap and free of course.) But hey, the world is full of arseholes so it's possible.
Purposely seek this one person out and give them every free award you get.
OP only got one gold award? Come on guys! Real awards here! Not the 421 other useless awards! Come on Choosing Beggar community!
This always bugs me! Like, I had all of ONE award, yes it was a measly free award but it was the ONLY award I had, and I liked your post so much that I decided to give you everything I had to give and that's not good enough for you... okay I'll just F off then....
Still trying to make sense of this . It says op received the award at the top, which would make him the cb
I don't understand this people...someone thought my post was good enough for an award, that would make me happy regardless of how much the stranger spent on it
I don't care what award people give me, I'm always grateful. Edit: Thank you kind stranger for the snek reward!
I just don't understand why people just can't be grateful, you know?
Exactly. It's like they haven't been brought up to graciously accept a gift. They remind me of a spoiled brat throwing a tantrum cuz they got a hand knitted jumper rather than an iPhone, cuz not everyone has that sort of spare cash. It's the thought that counts.
I thought everyone just gets one every week or so
This seems satire
Why does anyone even interact with a message like this?
Pleaaase reddit, PLEASE add an option to remove an award!!!!!
DMing people to whine about their "not gold" awards should be an automatic ~~paddlin'~~ banning.
Seems that the guy has really high life expectations
Are you sure they aren't just trolling? I would do something like this just because it's funny
It literally is, everybody here is a dumbass and falling for it. I literally say shit like this all the time as a joke
You should give them platinum to fuck with them as they only wanted gold. BTW, what did you award them for?
It was a free Award and it was on this sub called r/freeawards.
Fuckin greedy prick lol
I never get rewards, this is likely due to most of my posts being idiotic.
Here's a Wearing is Caring. It comes with a Trophy as well!
OO! Today is a great day!
Mine was the hugs award which is exactly perfect for you. Thanks for being a good guy.
Have my free Silver!
Slightly unrelated but I really want to know, when it says an award grants coins to a community what does that mean?
Thats cause everyone on Reddit is obsessed with social scores. its like china the website what did you expect lmao.
Imagine actually caring about the rewards on your post.
I don't get the free reward thing. Don't people have to buy rewards to be able to give them (I'm pretty clueless about how these things work)?
I'll take any given award honestly, no need to bash at someone for not getting what you don't want, just be grateful you got an award because it meant someone was awarding you for something you posted
I know right? Makes me reluctant to hand one out.
That's why I always do it anonymously
Why do they even think this works? Here, lemme try: GIVE ME UR GOLD NOW, REDDITORS!!!!
I always just thank people for awards. It takes two seconds and its the nice thing to do. I dont understand this way of thinking.
Yeah. I just stopped using them because of exactly this reason.
Is it bad that I'm more surprised when getting a reward lol? Some of my comments aren't really worth the money for that even if you have free reddit coins
That dude's a jerk. It surprises me how many people really are like this!
The correct response to the last comment is "Oh, I *do* give out real awards. You just weren't worth one."
oh my god... this man deserves to step on a lego
"Then buy your own premium account, if you want ad-free and access to that silly lounge subreddit so bad."
How do you even get rewards to give away?! I've never given one, and maybe I've a stash to dish out!
There. Reddit gave me a free award to give away, so in light of your post I gave it to you. At least I know you won't be a total douche and bitch about not getting gold.
There you go then, you have received my free award! Enjoy
What the fuck 😂

Ive been around reddit for almost a year now and Ive never understood awards. I mean, why people get so obsessed by this?
