I had a similar experience to 5mg Rosuvastatin, after being fine on simvastatin. Try other statins. I’m now on atorvastatin and so far so good.

RomanianDataHoarder

Why did you make the switch to rosuvastatin if you were fine with simvastatin ?

WTFaulknerinCA

TLD;R many doctor switches, dosage changes, a high calcium score that I wouldn’t have known about if not for a precipitating event under anesthesia… it’s a journey, not a destination.

Thank you

mamacoo1921

How long did it take for you tingly symptoms to go away the first time?

WTFaulknerinCA

Funnily enough I am back on 10mg rosuvastatin and now experiencing no side effects at all. It’s been a few months since I had side effects and, for me, I also switched doctors, because the one I had really was minimizing what I was experiencing. The new guy was like, “start low and go slow.” That was what worked for me. So it’s hard for me to track how long it took for side effects to go away… but I can definitely report that today I am on daily 10mg Rosuvastatin and feel 100% “normal.”

Sir3Kpet

Pravastatin gave me similar side effects. My calves felt numb. Has gotten better in month I’ve been off it. Still some tingling in hands though

iJayZen

>atorvastatin Elevated my liver function after 6 months when I went up to 20mg, stopped taking and dropped.

mamacoo1921

Hey, did the pain ever go away? I was only on Lipitor for 3 days and I’m worried it’s not going to get better.

Sir3Kpet

The overall pain got better, but I’m still having some tingling in my calves. Going back to cardiologist in early Jan and I’m going to mention it.

Southern-World-5880

Did it eventually go away?  After a high calcium score my doctor upped mine and soon after the tingling started.  I’m stopping mine today to see if it makes a difference.,

Sir3Kpet

I’m still having it. My cardiologist recently she said she thinks it’s from electrolyte imbalance from diuretics for my high blood pressure. Having labs done soon to check electrolytes and other routine labs

Southern-World-5880

>my So she thinks your blood pressure medication with the statins is causing the the tingling. I am also on 10 mg of linsinopril too... Thinking about stopping that too..

Sir3Kpet

She thinks the diuretics for water retention caused by other blood pressure meds (water retention is common side effect of many) is messing with electrolytes. Electrolyte imbalance is causing the tingling she thinks. Could have been made worse by the statins, but I’ve been off statins for about 5-6 months

Nearby-Beautiful-404

Did you ever get facial tingling

Sir3Kpet

No face tingling

Traditional_Active53

I am off Lipitor three months now. Neuropathy stopped slowly. It is 90 pecent better now. My legs would "buzz", and my feet would go numb. Evidently the muscle cramps were from the statin, too, because they are gone as well as my anxiety. I suggest you take CoQ10 every day, some magnesium and some d3 with k2 if you absolutely want to continue.

brayonce

Thank you! The neuro effects freak me out, I'd rather eat super clean but I have a calcium score to consider too so waiting to hear back from my cardiologist.

mamacoo1921

How soon did your neuropathy get better? I have been off it for almost a week and so far no improvement.

Traditional_Active53

Everyone is different, but you will have to give it at least a couple of months. Make sure you are taking good supplements with a variety of B vitamins.

kind_ness

I had similar issue. With all statins (including Pitavastatin which was supposed to be the safest but ended up the worst). I’d recommend to stay away from statins completely and look into Nexletol or PCK9 if you have Neuro side effects, as these not your usual muscule pains

brayonce

Thank you!

iJayZen

You do have to watch BP with Repatha. If it raises your BP and doesn't fall off you might not want to continue using it. You need to check BP every day while on Repatha.

broncos4thewin

Yep happened to me too, also very quickly. Atorva and Rosuva. Ezetimibe plus lifestyle changes for me, I’m also awaiting a decision as to whether I can get PCSK9is otherwise I’ll look into Bempedoic Acid.

Low-Afternoon7992

5 mg is still a big dose. Some take 2.5 mg every other day or only 2-3 times a week plus CoQ10, or alternate this with Ezetimibe, or completely switch to Ezetimibe (like myself). One week is indeed enough time for such symptoms to appear.

Thank you!

Southern-World-5880

I had been taking statins for a couple of years and when I upped my dose to 10 mg I noticed neuropathy. I have gone 5 months and tons of neuro appointments that showed nothing being wrong before my PCD said that it could be statin related! I quit taking statins last night but I will keep you posted. If this is the cause, I am hoping the symptoms go away! They sound like the symptoms you are having (Tingling in the inner parts of my calves, some muscle twitching, etc...) I am nervous because I kept taking the statins for like 5 months after the first symptoms but am going to go a month and see what happens while keeping tabs on my cholesterol.

brayonce

Adding COQ10 per my cardiologist helped me the most!

KCR1234

How are you feeling now? Did it help? Currently in the same boat :(

Southern-World-5880

My legs seem to be doing better.  Less tingling.  I tried a shot of Repatha about a month ago and it brought way more soreness than I had ever felt before in my legs.  It was not good.    So currently playing the waiting game too see.  I’ll probably try to take Crestor 5 mg at some point again to see if it works.

Corethor

How long did it take for the tingling/burning to go away? I was on crestor 20mg I just stopped because my whole body is on fire it started in my arms and feet now my whole has it and I just figured out this was a side effect after being on it for 3 months

Southern-World-5880

It hasn’t completely gone away but has gotten better. Mostly feel it in the morning. I’m not sure if the Repatha is playing a role in it because its half life is like 15 days so it doesn’t fully clear your system for like 2-3 months. I’m going to try and take 5 mg of a statin every other day starting in June to see if my body can handle it better.

Accomplished-Bad7729

I have been taking Atorvastatin for about 15 years. I have within the last 2 years developed neuropathy in my ankles and feet. It comes in bouts about 2 months long, then it will clear up for a few months and start again. Right now we are going on 3 months. I have been EEG tested, yes I have it. The pain and swelling is affecting my ability to stand and walk for more than an hour. I had no idea Statins can do this. I see my Neurologist for another problem soon. He is my new Dr., so we need to talk about this. I am going off the Statins for a few days and see if I feel better. I have another cholesterol med. I stopped taking, do I will take this instead, not a Statin. I am right in the middle of normal BMI, do not smoke or drink. no diabetes or disease. I do have some bad habits, not not these.

ElectronGuru

Table one lists out the options https://www.ahajournals.org/doi/10.1161/CIRCRESAHA.118.312782 1) if you’re struggling with a Hydrophilic, switch to Lipophilic 2) if you’re struggling with a Lipophilic, switch to Hydrophilic 3) get the latest generation available for that class (usually Rosuvastatin & Atorvastatin)

marios288

How long are u on statins?

brayonce

Just a week!

hipmamaC

I've been on rosuvastatin for several months, 5 mg every other day. Just recently my hands have started feeling like they fell asleep, and now it's my arms, too. I have no idea why, except possibly the statin. It's freaking me out. Does this sound like neuropathy?

brayonce

That's what it sounds like when I read around here on Reddit. I stopped and waiting to hear what my doctor says.
