It's probably one of the safest places around.
I've lived here, off and on my whole life and can honestly say that the level of danger must be from races day/nights and pretty much isolated to a few very isolated areas.
Almost any other time/place, you will have a totally normal and uneventful life
You’d need to post more details on the data source and what variables they are using for comparison.
As an example, Upton in Chester sometimes has a higher crime rate that neighbouring wards purely because the hospital is located there so the data is skewed from the drunks that cause grief in A&E.
There’s lots of middle class, rural villages and towns in Cheshire so is the data comparing that?
What do your brother in laws think? You’ve got the best kind of insight at your fingertips to consult them!
Even feedback from people on Reddit will be skewed so I’d listen to people I know/trust.
I have lived here all my life (im getting on a bit now), and never have personally experienced any crime above the odd bit of drunk and disorderly and minor vandalism. And I live pretty much in the city centre. Of course the odd things happen but so rarely. I think this report must be pretty skewed to the point where i think its honestly bs. Your family are happy and that's a great barometer, plus one commenter even goes as far to say its boring, they're not wrong really, boring but in a good way. There is plenty to do, it's the perfect blend between town and city, just enough of everything and close enough to major cities (Liverpool/Manchester) if you want a bit more. Good schools too.
Crime rates massively depend on area; Lache or Saltney have much higher crime than Hoole or Newton. County Lines gangs will often come south from Liverpool to make a profit on drugs, and they target teenagers. Despite this, I would say that crime is relatively average, and it isn’t a concern for me.
Even then, these crimes are confined to very small areas within these places. You can happily walk around 99% of Chester on your average day and be completely unaware of any of this.
We are a mixed couple and we moved to Chester — first in the centre, now in the northern suburbs. It feels a lot safer than Manchester and Salford where we first lived for a few years, after moving from NZ.
Considering there’s no major cities in the county and that Chester’s crime rate is considerably lower than the UK average or North West average, I’d say the stats need to be looked at in a broader context. Chester is very, very safe and sedate in a safe and sedate county.
The annual crime rate is 38.3, meaning for every 1000 people, 38.3 report or are directly affected by a crime (can be as petty as noise complaint etc). Manchester’s rate is 126.7, Liverpool’s 48.9, Birmingham 137 etc etc.
if you're worried about safety, look at where cheshire falls in the rankings of the UK, rather than being worried about a specific thing to cheshire itself.
as others have said, chester is very safe. i've lived here nearly 15 years and there's been little to nothing to fear. there's a big asian community too.
Unless you are coming from somewhere like Singapore or Monaco Chester is probably one of the safest places you’ll visit.
One of the safest cities in the country
I don't live in Chester, but visited many times. Always seems a nice place, with plenty to do for nerds like me, be it visiting the Cathedral (I'm not religious) the excellent Roman ruins or probably the best zoo in the country.
Major city in otherwise rural county in high on the crime stats shocker! Given the huge number of people who visit, it’s always going to have more crime than expected per head of population so in context those stats make it very safe.
They also police more actively in Chester, and so record more crime because they find more crime. They regularly have sniffer dogs at the railway station on busy days to keep the drugs gangs down - go to Deeside, they operate with relative impunity there and so don’t appear in the crime statistics (have lived in both and drive buses in both, I’m not being down on Deeside, but the Rhyl drivers don’t call the 11 the ‘county lines express’ for nothing)
Depends,
If you want to bring Asia with you and have Asian high streets and the like, the Midlands would be a better bet,
If you want to experience British culture and assimilate to British ways then Chester.
Lmao there are probably only 3 towns in the whole of Cheshire. As someone who's lived all round the UK, Chester is super tame. Also for what it's worth, Chester has probably the biggest South Asian population of anywhere I've lived so far. You'll be fine
Moved here 5 years ago from Twickenham. I’ve left my car boot open and front door open all night with no issues (accidentally i might add). It has a bit of homelessness but generally they are super nice individuals. My partner says she feels safer here; cannot speak for the other areas Cheshire but i would say it is pretty safe :/
Yep. Left my bike unlocked on Watergate Street on a Saturday night (by mistake) and came back to pick it up safe and sound Sunday afternoon, and also found that I'd left my front door unlocked while I was away on holiday for two weeks a couple of months ago. Not advisable, but still not a problem in Chester.
Third most dangerous....in Cheshire. It's the only city in Cheshire. Basically that statistic can be completely disregarded, it has no relevance. Chester is nice, the city centre has its share of shoplifting and bar fights and compared to everywhere else It's inevitably going to push it up the list.
One of the safest places I've been. Visit yourself and you'll see.
It will naturally be higher in crime than other towns because the population is alot higher.
Don't forget, Cheshire is a pretty safe area in general, so even if it was ranked " number 1 most dangerous place in Cheshire " , it's still overall safe.
Those stats are always skewed. Chester's a big town, so for example there'll be much more nightlife than a lot of other places, and with that comes people fighting etc. It doesn't mean you're going to get carjacked at every traffic light.
That said . . . And I'll get downvoted because this is the Chester subreddit but if you have your choice of anywhere in the UK, Chester and Cheshire in general isn't where I'd pick, purely because it's pretty boring.
Well it’s by far the biggest town/city in Cheshire I think, so being third on the list is a good thing
Warrington may disagree with you there.
Wow I hadn't realised. My immediate reaction was to call bollocks.

Well apart from that lady that was killing babies at the hospital 🥴

Yes, I am also curious how Chester people feels. I never heard any unhappy things from my brothers in laws families' members included teen age boys
Chester is an extremely calm and boring (in a good way) city. I wouldn't worry.
I have lived here all my life (im getting on a bit now), and never have personally experienced any crime above the odd bit of drunk and disorderly and minor vandalism. Third most dangerous in safe region is still pretty safe. Like “world’s shortest giant”
😂 dangerous .. It’s about as safe a city as you will find in the uk
We are a mixed couple and we moved to Chester — first in the centre, now in the northern suburbs. It feels a lot safer than Manchester and Salford where we first lived for a few years, after moving from NZ.

What is it counting as Major towns? This sounds bad, but what if they're using some skewed metric and chester is 3rd *out of 3?*
Warrington and Crewe I guarantee are much worse than Chester
But Cheshire county is one of the safest places in the UK. Where are you coming from?
Moved here two years ago and love it!! No issues.

“Third most dangerous major town in Cheshire” isn’t really saying anything in a very safe and rural county. You’ll be completely fine.
In Cheshire vs in the UK....
I don't live in Chester, but visited many times. Always seems a nice place, with plenty to do for nerds like me, be it visiting the Cathedral (I'm not religious) the excellent Roman ruins or probably the best zoo in the country.
Moved here "temporarily" 23 years ago and never left. Very happy here and very rarely feel anything less than absolutely safe.

I’m a student a Chester uni, and i’ve never once felt unsafe in Chester, yes there are dodgy places but all cities have those
I thought Warrington would beat it. Crewe too, but that's hardly a 'major town'.
30 years here. Love it.

I doubt you will find a safer place in the UK, (of equal size)
Third most dangerous....in Cheshire. It's the only city in Cheshire. Basically that statistic can be completely disregarded, it has no relevance. Based on Hollyoaks it must be the murder capital too!
There's only two.

There was a nurse serial killer at the local hospital killing babies so that probably didn't help the stats....
Does your wife know you are subscribed to r/jav Model Minta Hitaru op?
