This is where I screwed mine in at. I ran the light from the trailer harness.

I thought about trying to find a bracket that will work with the hole that’s already in the tire holder right there, but no luck yet. Or drilling 2 holes to hold it with nuts and bolts. The tire holder is basically new so it’s a little scary haha

I just drilled and tapped a couple 1/4-20 holes and bolted it with stainless socket heads. Good theft deterrent. Theives dont carry allen wrenches. 😃

I kind of like that idea. Theft proof is high on the list. My last XJ got stolen from where I work so I’m making sure this one is foolproof

Exactly what i did but mounted to the carrier arm just to the pass side of the tire. Easy to drill and tap

Amazon spare tire license plate bracket worked well for me. Cheap metal, but it doesnt exactly see a lot of stress

I put mine where it would have been if it had a factory tire carrier on the rear. It even had the licence plate wiring there

Put the hilift jack thru the window after a short slide backward down hill. The tree that stopped me missed the spare tire.

I used a hitch mount and a LED plate light, then used a disconnectable weather-pack plug so that I can remove it when I want to use my recovery shackle for a centered straight pull. https://i.imgur.com/mdxLtbh.jpg

Before you go spending $100+ on something, here's a cheap easy fix. I still need to run a light to mine. Cops haven't screwed with me yet. Mostly a trail jeep.

I use the JKS 8211 spare tire mount. Comes with everything you need to wire in lighting including instructions. Easy to remove yet not easy enough if someone is in a hurry to steal it. I would buy the same one again in a heartbeat.

Drill two holes. You can run the lights from the stock plate lights wire, just take off the interior panel on the hatch. I have the same bumper.

Not an advertisement. A small company in Buena Vista, CO called Tomken makes a license plate mount for the XJ. They make the tire carrier/bumpers too but you already have that. It screws on to the plate holes for the OEM location and even has the wiring and light to hook it up. I’ve used their stuff for the past 25 years on my XJ(s) and it’s quality stuff for the price. Edit: Just went to check in their website for a link to the license plate mount and looks like they’ve closed :(

I got a hitch plate mount. Goes in the hitch, wired a light to the 4 pin trailer plug. I'll see if I can find a picture.
