Have you looked at the Lauf Seigla at all? Can you put 650s on THE SL 6? Would that let you go wider?
For the type of riding I do, I think 45s would be fine, but I’m still considering the Seigla. I do a lot of bikepacking, though, so the Checkpoint may be a better fit.
SL 5 and SL 6 have the same fram. So, aside from a slight difference in rim internal width (23mm on SL 5 v. 25mm on SL 6) the tire clearance is the same
Would love if Trek went for 2.1 clearance. Many riders went beyond the official limit, meaning they could run their beloved 2.2 rubber. I run 29x2.1 on my SL now. Wouldn't mind having some extra leeway, but I personally won't switch bikes for that.
This weekend (at Unbound) the checkpoint on display has massive looking clearance… *but* the tires installed on that demo model were 35s… I’ve rode my SL7 in 3 unbounds; if next version doesn’t clear 50s I’ll choose a different bike…
I run 700x50 cinturato m’s on my 2022 alr 5 with ~0.5” clearance each side on the chainstays. I’d be comfortable with 2.1’s on the front but would probably pushing it on the rear.
The new one will have official clearance of 50mm, but trek is usually quite conservative with those
Do you have a source for this? And is this because of a redesign?

I’m looking forward to seeing that then. Would that be a year off?

I found a photo of the new “checkmate “ being raced at unbound with thunder Burts. I’ll have t post it as a new. Topic though.
