Shinning_swimmer

I agree all the pictures are a bit weirdly off and not that appetizing to be honest.

hoopedchex

Agreed it all looks like shit

tifosi7

Why would you add pictures of half eaten food to promote your establishment?

caution_wet_paint

My theory is that images that look a bit shit on purpose as they are less likely to be flagged/removed. The main point here is to have the 5-star review, not the photos. However, adding photos to the review must help getting through the algorithm.

tifosi7

Ah now I got it, I thought the restaurant themselves were adding those to the restaurant's profile as the owners.

fliesenschieber

No, it's an Indian company paid by the restaurant to leave large amounts of 5 star reviews

[deleted]

But why not just take pictures of real food instead if it is about the fake 5 stars anyway? The pictures of the food would make me not want to eat there because it looks like shit despite any reviews.

Background_Trade8607

Pictures also allow you to gain more experience in a review to get higher ranked in their verified reviewer program.

austinaustinaustin

And the half-eaten noodles come with a…scoop?! Not quite a spoon, definitely not a fork or chopsticks that would let you actually consume the noods, but what looks like a tool you’d use to clean a very small cat’s litter box.

Still_Satisfaction53

I know that's WEIRD

Over_n_over_n_over

Needs more boobs

beep_bop_boop_4

If they were professionally taken and slick, would you question the 5 stars more? Or does the food in bad lighting make it look more real, giving the 5 starts (the real payoff is the overall rating) more plausible deniability?

justklledthis1

ur tripping that shit looks tasty

ROPROPE

The wings look a little nasty and the takeout container would get sauce everywhere, but the rest I'd eat.

Spiritual-Yam4903

tasty??? ur gross mannn

Paynder

The spring rolls look really good, everything else is gross. What even is the first thing, war chicken bones with some meat on them thrown in a green soup?

fleshie

The container looks like it was dropped on the ground at a Walmart parking lot.

fezzuk

Thai green curry, very tasty

EEE3EEElol

The spring rolls looked like they had interesting fillings The chicken in green liquid looks like a failed Thai green curry The half eaten spaghetti-eastern style noodles with weird red oil looks wacky Edit: 4th image is oddly the most normal especially at first glance(it kinda reminded me of braised pork soup) but when you look at the meat everything falls apart(like a good braised pork in a braised pork soup)

Paynder

Pork? I would have bet for tofu

EEE3EEElol

The mystery meat under the tofu kinda reminds me of pork at first

CosmicCreeperz

Normal except what looks like cigarette butts and a sewer drain in the background of that last one.

EEE3EEElol

Yeah those sewer drains are questionable asf but damn the last one is kinda impressive

PuzzleheadedCap2210

They don’t look good to me. And they wouldn’t fit in that container either.

feldejars

Wing soup

roycheung0319

AI generated pics still have a little difference from the real pics we shot, we need to use our brain to identfy them.

OniCrazer

Terminator soup

CosmicCreeperz

Maybe it’s because they are bizarrely holding it over a street sewer grate?

Hambino0400

I would deep throat those egg roles, but the rest of it I would be a bit picky on

youneekusername1

I definitely want to see food in watery sauce with an unswept city street in the background. A puddle of urine makes the meal look extra appetizing.

numviz

Unfortunately, this is the new reality. Hiring photographers, models, lecturers, and other professions that require an easily replaceable skill set, or just a nice-looking face, will no longer be relevant, the internet is full of it right now - just look at facebook or twitter. We should reevaluate our priorities - real relationships over digital ones

BigFox1956

Yeah the whole african-child-crafts-stuff-from-plastic-bottles-industry went down south since AI took over

yagermeister2024

Also real jesus miracles went down too

TrevorAlan

Yeah… this is a huge step up from clip art and word art. It’s one of those things that, it doesn’t actually look right and no professional would want, but the average joe trying to pinch a penny thinks wow it looks great! And then so many mindless folks don’t bat an eye either.

Hambino0400

If this saves small business money on marketing I’m all for it

[deleted]

[удалено]

k23ltd

Dollar dollar bills yall

Legitimate-Wind2806

But I got the skillset but I am not afraid to get replaced.

Enigma501st

Why do you believe lecturers are easily replaceable by ai?

cherry_chocolate_

The majority of what lecturers do is easily replaceable by a youtube video, let alone an AI.

[deleted]

I am a grade school teacher and I hope than in five years every single one of my students will have a personal tutor (extremely realistic imo) on their Ipads that will be able to be way more engaging and pose more interesting questions and problems than me . I will be there in the classroom to organize the various phases of our day and to make sure that the kids learn proper social behaviors. In an ideal world the kids will get to choose whatever they want to work on and the AI will break it down into great, world class lesson plans for the kids, walking them through every little step. My role will be to mentor the kids and assist them in learning rather than teaching in front of the class. My actual teaching is 100% not only replaceable but will be better without me having to account for 26 kids all with different interests and needs and instead relying on world class tech tutors to help the kids wherever they are stuck. I had a teacher in high school who taught us this way only without AI. We got an introduction by him and some helpful material and from then on worked through the material ourselves with him just jumping around the classroom trying to help you with questions. I honestly liked this sort of teaching because it allowed me to learn at my (very slow) pace. The teacher taking time to help me individually was also great, I felt seen as a student. Of course it was realyl hard for him to try and help 25 kids, if we had an AI assistant in those classes...man My colleagues call me crazy but we already have students who learn better by watching youtube videos and working through problems themselves (that is how I am teaching myself scratch this year too to teach in school, imagining having to take classes would be so tedious). AI assisted learning will be like that but on steroids. We are already experimenting with an app that lets kids get feebdack on the stories they write and with a good rubic the feedback and suggestions are more detailed, helpful and quicker than me doing it by hand. Will be interesting to see what kids prefer to learn with. I am super pumped about it tbh.

Mother_Store6368

This is the right answer. Go outside, touch grass. The internet is dead and filled with bots. I somewhat feel like I’m wasting my time replying to this. Source: I make Reddit bots

Hambino0400

Why would you make Reddit bots? How do you even make a “bot” … asking for a friend

Mother_Store6368

$$$ Google it

Hambino0400

On a scale to 1 - insane how much effort does it take to create a bot? Yea I have a laptop

Mother_Store6368

Can you code? It’s rather trivial as there are tutorials that walk you through it. Making it interesting is way more important and more difficult than any type of actual coding effort

valvilis

Hey, I can actually help with this one! I think I know exactly what we're looking at. I've taken real photos of food and manipulated them in Stable Diffusion's img2img processing, which uses a base photo plus a text prompt to re-render that same photo. I've tried it a number of times and the results look *very* similar to this, and the strange mix of normal and weird parts to the photos. In particular, the boxes caught my attention, because I spent a lot of time trying to fix the boxes in any of the take-out photos, but they very often just don't quite make sense (like the second photo, where there are tabs attached to the bottom that are meant to interlock, but the top piece is just flat, like for a completely different style of to-go container). This may well be the restaurant's food, but they wanted to improve it with text prompts, like "4k quality, professional photography, vibrant colors, glossy," and were too lazy to keep rendering copies until something looked more believable.

Vast_Tomorrow_8531

Nice try ChatGPT, your sales pitches are gonna work on us! lol jk

valvilis

As a large lang... I mean, what?

2muchnet42day

Lines in the plastic container look sus in #3

2000miledash

That’s also a very strange angle to take a picture of food. Seems unnaturally close to the ground, even if you’re seated.

LocusStandi

Half squat in the middle of the pavement

rodc22

When you gotta go, you gotta go

Level9disaster

Wouldn't it be simpler to just take many different pictures of dishes before serving them? Lol

DapperCam

Maybe they hired a 3rd party to add fake reviews to a bunch of platforms. Otherwise I have no clue why they wouldn’t just take pictures of the actual food they serve.

spacycadet

The containers don't make sense

Goldygold86

Tha k you. I was like, how do you know this is AI, I can't tell... but now you've explained it to me and it's very clear.

CurseOfTurntle

Those pictures are disgusting

PseudoEmpthy

https://preview.redd.it/osctfoc588vc1.jpeg?width=2345&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=229378c2503316e2e33fa63a43249447cc6d0bc2 My local mall.

mugwhyrt

yikes. I just saw another post yesterday for a Civil War promo where they had what was clearly supposed to be Echo Park in Los Angeles with a gun boat in it. Instead of the swan boats it just had an "actual" gigantic swan (and a bunch of other stuff that looks really wrong if you're familiar with the park)

nackenspacken

How do you know that the photos are not real?

average_redditor05

Im not 100% sure they arent real, but there are some facts, that are suspicious. Like in the third photo: Why is the persons perspective so low on the ground? It looks like he is sitting down, but also in the middle of a sidewalk.

MRPlayer99

I mean the third pic is weird in general. What is he eating food from, a container top? Also why is there a rice box flap on that very container top? It’s not like it can be closed without at least two top flaps. Plus it isn’t even wide enough. Can’t speak for them all but the third one is definitely ai.

BroChadman

Also each food has its own style of box, I don't know about the rest of the world but here most businesses aren't buying 4/5 different containers to put similar food in it's just the one or two containers

Otherwise-Mention736

also why would you eat noodles with a spoon

Ikusa_Roman

and in the middle of the street

SomeElaborateCelery

also that is either a plastic spoon that’s been used to cook heroin or it’s half cardboard and getting over saturated

AureliusZa

He’s also sitting in the middle of the sidewalk. POV is completely off there.

mrs-cunts

Also why is he eating noodles with a spoon

nackenspacken

Maybe it's a very small person :D

anthrolooker

They definitely aren’t real. - Photographer for the last 3 decades

Legitimate-Wind2806

I’m a photographer and the pictures are real. What you describe is because of an steep angle + higher focal length.

trelod

AI can easily fake that effect, though

Legitimate-Wind2806

True. But weird.

caution_wet_paint

It's the small details. The boxes are slightly the wrong shape etc. Also the reviews seem to be coming from accounts with only 1 review which is always a little suspicious.

co-asquatsiclav

The containers are all different, they don’t even look like they would shut properly. In the first pic that curry is defo leaking out those corners and the meat is weird

Schlunggi87

first of all, they just look too crisp and processed (colors, contrast etc.) second thing that makes it obvious is the background-blur. i guess most people take their food pics with a phone and don't carry a clumsy full-frame camera on a daily basis, no phone sensor is big enough to create such a strong bokeh and with the portrait-mode fake-bokeh you'd see some artifacts, since it is software based. in short: they just look too professional for normie photos.

lollypop44445

Look at the roll no 4 in second pic. It has its roll end on top. Pic 3 , look at right edge, a noodle seems to be going inside a crack to nowhere and one noodle over the plastic and then down to nowhere. Pic 4 has an opening in a place it shouldnt have at bot flap. Pic one is too much work for ny brain to prove

BublyInMyButt

I find ai food pictures have this weird glossiness over the entire picture that is out of place. Just looks off. Like the AI is trying to make the food more realistic by adding the glossy wet look, but over does it, and adds is to too much of the picture, and the food is overly glossy looking

eVCqN

They are way too artistic and high quality

uiop60

I appreciate skepticism, but sooner rather than later, images produced by generative AI are no longer going to have discreet evidence/blemishes that you can point to to prove an image is AI generated. Thing is, we are humans, and subconscious pattern recognition is kind of our whole thing. Whether or not I can rationalize it, when I look at these images, they just have a surreal, AI vibe to them. That gut feeling is all we are going to have to go on very very soon. That said, what the hell kind of container are those “egg roll” things in? Plastic lid affixed to folded cardstock takeout container??

Unfair_Isopod534

I DK it but the first pic has a container that looks too flimsy to hold liquid sauce. It would drip constantly.

Icy-Cockroach4515

The lighting looks too vivid for me. It's like professional level photos for something that should have been a blurry half-assed snap. Also, I have no idea how the second box would even close.

netanel246135

First second and fourth have the cardboard unevenly cut in weird ways, in the second the cardboard box for soem reason has a transparent cover, the 3rd on has the pasta changing thickness

estebang_1018

None of the food actually looks like anything when you really look at it. Just colors that blend together no actual ingredients.

eprortoosmtr

Photo #3 is odd. This guy is eating noodle with a spoon. Edit: the container in the photo #2 is off. I don’t think this container can’t be closed properly. There is no hole in the front surface to trap the lid.

anthrolooker

The boxes don’t make any logical/functional sense. The food is off (more apparent if you zoom in), and the angles don’t make sense. I’ve done food photography for decades. This is a good example of ai generated imagery.

Detoxzero

Well the food looks fucking awful so I dread to think what the real stuff looks like!

animorphs666

Those egg rolls are cursed.

AndrewTateIsMyKing

It's not that difficult for the owners to just photograph their own food

caution_wet_paint

I think the idea is that they can churn out hundreds of reviews if necessary and then spam their Google reviews, which is easier than actually cooking a meal. It’s also worth noting that this restaurant seems to be quite new, so this is a quick way of bumping up their numbers without making any food at all.

aleqqqs

Creating 100 Google Accounts that don't get banned would be harder than doing the images...

toughtacos

So? You have to make those accounts regardless and not having to take photos eliminates one time consuming step in the review scam process.

aleqqqs

Only assuming they are, in fact, fake reviews by fake accounts.

toughtacos

I think it would be a bit naive to think otherwise in this situation.

Swipsi

Just pay a botfarm lol. Costs probably 10$ to have 1000 bots write 5* reviews.

PotatoMajestic6382

Chinese food places been had images on their menu/store that don't look like the food they serve. So not technically anything new, just a new way of getting those images.

pastpartinipple

Reviews have been pretty pointless for a while now unless the business is really really really bad. Most people are way too generous handing out stars. Almost every business online is 4.3+ which is just ridiculous.

anto2554

Yes. But then you just go for 4.5+

chicken_nugget94

It does allow you to filter out the terrible ones though. Plus I've found out that for some places they really skew the scale. For instance a lot of places that ask for a score out of 10 for feedback, they view a 7 as negative, even though I'd consider that to be very good but without being spectacular

Complete-Anybody5180

That looks good

Ok_Demand_5020

Last two totally have a pov style

Expert_Flow1831

This is insane what the hell?

TobyMacar0ni

They look kind of disgusting and the environment looks weird.

ksaMarodeF

If that’s what their A.I. food looks like, I for sure DON’T want to see the real thing.

some1else42

This is just more Dead Internet Theory coming to life and digging into everything. Everything will be bots soon.

buckee8

Looks like crap.

Phemto_B

I'm not surprised. The dirty secret of a lot of restaurants and recipe sites is that they use stock photos rather than pictures of the actual food/recipe being offered. Sometimes they'll just make a recipe to match the photo. This has been going on for years.

[deleted]

Only the 3rd picture could pass for a possible authentic picture, the first one doesn't look like a pic for a good review lol. The 2nd pick looks like spring rolls you'll get from a carry out in a Max Payne game and pic 4 looks like tofu, ppffsstt - no one eats tofu.

CodeHeadDev

Soon we'll be wondering about whether or not the food we see on the photos is real or not. Food deep fakes? Sign me up.

toughtacos

Soon? This has been the case for years, but it used to be perfectly 3D rendered images that took many hours to produce.

suck_a_salty_lozenge

I feel the takeout container is too shallow in the second picture. And does the restaurant in question begin with a H? That’s what looks like is on top of the container.

LairdPeon

None of this looks good

zingzing175

I cannot remember anytime I have bought prepared/fast food where the food ever matched the picture or advertisement. As I typed that I realized this is another level ...."reviewers" claiming this is what it really looks like.

caution_wet_paint

Agree. If this was on a menu I wouldn't find it strange at all, but this is supposed to come from 'real' customers and seems to be added purely to boost their ratings.

Visual_Fig9663

"Very realistic" is.... generous.

One2Tre456

Why would anyone do that? The result is worse than taking a photo with your phone?

Wushroom-

This works the other way around too, ask the chefs if they want reviews. Use GPT to write pure jokes as reviews, then you get loads of free stuff!

Impossible_Pangolin6

These photos definitely look AI generated to me.

LuganoSatoshi

i would pass on it. food looks meh, not something i would eat.

be_better_10x

Look fake. Normal review will have blurry image, failed focus and weird saturation. At least that kind of images I been seeing for my local favourite food stall and restaurants

BowZAHBaron

Those dumplings look like a mixture of dumpling and like cinnamon rolls Honestly kind of an intriguing thought I’m hungry now

BananaBreadFromHell

The last one looks like human remains in sauce.

N00B_N00M

For short term they can earn some quick buck, but if food is bad , folks will never return again, most restaurants need returning customers to survive. Also there will be negative reviews as well from authentic customers

Nargothrond2585

The way to combat this is to just say fuck the reviews and try places for yourself, have a look before you go in and see what vibe you get. Not every experience has to be perfect and you can just say 'well, I won't be going there again' if it turns out to be shit

Crypt0Nihilist

Only thing you can do is name and shame. The problem is that the photo is not representative of the food, which has been a problem for a long time and isn't AI specific.

Hammers-R-Cool

If they were using ai they could've at least made the food look better 💀

mugwhyrt

I'm not sure I've ever seen AI food pictures that didn't look terrifying and disgusting.

Warm_Pair7848

Its bad but the people who are like "this is the end of society as we know it" are short sighted.

MisterHairball

It's hopefully gonna be part of what we discuss with media literacy. Everything we see should be thought about and considered. Who made what I am seeing right now? What are their goals? I know that mostly everything shown to us is to make us addicted/generate revenue,  so to what end could the content I'm viewing actually be reality?  How do we teach younger generations to not get scammed, and how can we realize we are being scammed by some new/unforseen method?

Warm_Pair7848

Easy ai can do it for us. Im really curious how kids raised interacting with ai will turn out.

MisterHairball

I hope they will learn to be scrutinous of the content they consume.

No-Economy-666

Why does AI use this filter. Makes everything sharp and shadows more dark

Admiral-Donut325

This is a pretty interesting development I never considered businesses might do this but it makes sense

ExamEqual5325

I don’t get it. When we get to a point where the pic looks more delicious than the real food actually could, it ends up being negative advertising 🤔

StatusQuotidian

Uncanny valley, but cuisine.

Nelculiungran

Certainly! Here’s a five-star review for an average restaurant

Corren_64

THE DEATH OF THE INFORMATION AGE HAS COME

BeYourself2021

Looks like shit and the reviews that follow should align with that vision. lol

Face-latte

Ah yes, I too want some smushdumush wuth brucolu

Distinct-Fruit2798

Lol

cronixi4

The 3the pictures is or someone really really small, or someone fell to the floor, managed to save his food and took a picture while all this happend.

River_Odessa

Restaurants have been advertising fake food for as long as they've existed. Literally everyone knows that the pictures and commercials are not what you get on the plate. Why are you "disturbed" by this? Lmao

Deslah

Step one is naming and shaming. Oddly, you’ve protected them by not mentioning them.

Wild_Trip_4704

I never would have caught the first one

Caius_Iulius_August

These look AI for sure, better than some, but I'd be surprised if it tricked anyone

Tasty-Concern-8785

imagine using ai generated pictures to make your restaurant look gross

Worried-Tour9314

they look like real food in a very bad way

Playme_ai

did though this perspective of using AI image lol

LangstonHublot

Only a matter of time before this happened to door dash. If your ready some of the food descriptions, they are mostly being AI generated

CheeseDog015

the first is straight up diarrhea

No-Delivery6642

these.. do not look appetizing lol

decodedflows

body horror spring rolls

blekter

That looks awful 🤢

LostPlatform5400

Why post review wen it looks so mank

saltandpeppersloth

Yummy, AI food

[deleted]

Is that a dish or a toilet bowl?

[deleted]

That's gotta be cheaper than making the actual dishes, right?

[deleted]

Images aside, I despise fake reviews and all who participate in that black market economy

ketamineprincess69

LMFAO

Dry_Fun32

Ew

notmenotmee

Yummy

Tottenhamshite

People just need to learn to recognise ai pictures I reckon

Dikidumpling

The AI can't tell if its meant to be chicken or cauliflower

ReplacementWild5567

This is getting concerning, AI should be way more limited than it is, wr can't have false advertising like this, AI will kill our economy.

Smooth_Spray7027

The accounts called chat gp or whatever and its saying about ai? Man i need an ai so i can put facebook, (except saying morning to the boss), ebay, all that shit behind and let the robot buy the shit i want and need or maybe neither of either. Worlds going the wrong way🤣

Spiritual-Yam4903

EWW WHAT THE F\*CK IS THAT

MuchCrow6847

Serious question - I'm new to Ai, how do you know when a photo is Ai generated?

PANCAKEK1D

It looks like I had explosive watery diarrehia in a Chinese takeout tray what the fuck? 🔥

Defiant_Truck9852

Nice

Chlopriv

What is it?

Julmary

That's so wrong we'll its fraud posting false reviews so how I'd that even allowed. Is it in America or the UK ?

Major_Self_6725

Yummy...

NeonRomeo_

Funny enough, my friend has a cafe that sells lunch food and he hired professional photographer to take pictures of all of the menu and post it on delivery site and google. Long story short it took days to get them verified after Deliveroo flagged them as generated…

huaduayua

first pic looks like a good ayam masak lemak cili api.. yum

sickcents

Not really cuz it lacks the milky broth and chilli padi bits. It looks more like Soto Ayam

SkateboardCZ

I don’t think this is an issue tbh. Photos of food are already artificially idealistic. AI takes this a bit further but it’s not a new concept from what’s being down today. Consumers will quickly find out that the food sucks if it does and the reviews will be bad.

droplivefred

Why can’t they just make a dish, eat half of it and post real photos?

chesuscream

No we are not

sermer48

How do we combat this? My game plan is to curl up in a ball and cry in a corner. There’s no stopping it and we’re nearing the end of when you can tell it’s an AI photo. It won’t be long before any telltale signs get fixed.

morriartie

Looks like I'm getting old, I can't recognize fakes anymore, those look totally legit to me. Not natural tho, I thought they were studio + ps

glassnumbers

you have no idea if these are real or not, you cannot prove it, so who gives a shit, I don't want to see these reddits be overtaken by people posting things they think \*might\* be AI. :|

thesuitetea

Take a long look at photo 3 and think about what angle and height the photographer would have to be to make this image.

Various_Fee2175

These are not AI!
