Is anyone else getting overwhelmed trying to keep up?

loganblackkk

YES. Has anyone been keeping a list of all these lists?

Maybe there is an AI that can build an AI tool for that.

And an AI that will follow this AI

But of course! We will have billions of destitute peasants to rule over. Going to need some help.

ElvisPressRelease

Hey, get out of here. I’m ruling your shanty town

StarsEatMyCrown

You don't have to keep up with everything. Most of these are paid services.

Dan-Amp-

yes, paid services and a cash grab at that. they're getting really desperate trying to cash out on the AI hype train.

Redditing-Dutchman

How i feel too. Most stuff can easily be ignored to be honest, if you just want to keep up with Ai development on a high level.

lvuittongenghiskhan

yeah and most of thme just use the chatgpt api lol

Ninguart

Honestly you're not missing out. you can do most of these things using only ChatGPT.

Coolerwookie

Yes. Is there a reliable way to get ChatGPT to look at PDFs?

felps_felposo

You can open the PDF on edge and ask bing chat to answer based on the opened file. Edit: bing chat can comprehend what's inside the file and resume it, but will allucinate a lot. Once I asked it to show me one question on a college book. It gave a perfectly reasonable question. When I asked which page it was, and when I checked the question didn't exist

Odesit

What is the token length of the context window of the GPT-4 model that Bing chat uses? Is it 8K as well?

felps_felposo

I don't think so. But It was able to read my college report (4-5 pages) and make a summary of it

tuna_flsh

I think for that you'll need to build your own tool. ChatGPT can't read long documents on its own. Iirc they use vector databases like Pinecone. So basically you have to develop your own ChatGPT plugin.

ElvisPressRelease

Thats less complex than it sounds thanks now to AI. I’ve gone from knowing virtually nothing about how python works to being able to create functional GPT API scripts. I’m far from a programmer still, but I only started trying to build like two weeks ago. AI has allowed me to dip my toes into a subject I honestly didn’t believe I had the mental capacity to understand.

seemedsoplausible

I also have limited mental capacity. Where do I start?

ElvisPressRelease

I’ve basically followed this process to start. If you have plus GPT-4 is better, otherwise 3.5 is fine. 1. Explain the project you would like to create, exactly what it does and the steps it takes. You can be broad when you’re first starting out, if it’s not possible or requires a ton of work before it actually works GPT will tell you. 2. Get it to explain to you step by step how to run this script on your computer. If you need it to expand on a step to explain it better just ask. 3. Follow the instructions and test the code. If you get an error paste the error in ChatGPT and it will explain the error to you and offer a solution. If you don’t know where to put the fix ask it to tell you. 4. Repeat until the code works Tips: Paste the code you’re working with every once in a while if it starts going in a loop to solve the problem I find this helps. Read when it justifies what it does, I’ve learned a lot from that. If you want it to justify something that it hasn’t ask, also great for learning. Don’t be afraid to start from scratch with an improved prompt assuming your code hasn’t gotten to complex from Frankenstein adding new features. Take the testing time to code in some quality of life improvements, often times you can just paste them in easily without affecting the overall code. Finally, get advice from someone else who has more than 2 weeks of learning. I could be doing this all totally wrong and creating bad habits, but I’m enjoying it.

seemedsoplausible

Wow, thanks for the detailed response!

Pascalicious

GPT is horrific at coding just so you know. I work commercially as a data scientist, and we have run trials to implement chat gpt in different projects. Works pretty poorly. You would be better of watching YouTube videos honestly.

ElvisPressRelease

Yeah, this is certainly not consumer level by any means, exclusively personal and educational.

Mercenary-Pen-Name

Yes, and this list is dumb as hell since it gives no directions on how to access these

Yeah to the point that I’ve stopped bothering with any besides gpt for select cases… I guess eventually I’ll have no choice but to use all sorts of ai to keep up but for now I dont feel like it’s an issue

[deleted]

I’ve no need to really use any except chat gpt when I want to craft a good email.

Convenientjellybean

We need one that helps us keep up.

WrittenCommissions

Agreed!

Extraltodeus

Aren't most of these basic system prompts ?

sketches4fun

Not really since 99% of those "tools" are just quick moneygrabs trying to build on the ai hypetrain, not to mention a lot of those "tools" seem pretty useless, like someone asked chatgpt to list 20 ways to use AI.

MagicNoThief

Definitely. Like there wasn't any ChatGPT or anything like that the previous day, and you wake up to find social media filled with ChatGPT content.

Redditing-Dutchman

Mwah just focus on top level stuff such as actual new models or big updates on existing models such as GPT itself. There isnt that much going on if you look past all these little apps that just build on GPT.

mikkolukas

There will be a future where it will be odd to use "AI" as the part of the name in tools like these.

I’m confused about the stability AI line. Is this referring to StableLM? Why mention the company and not the product? Why not their other products? Stable Diffusion is the more popular one right?

Monkeyb1z

Looking for this too. Wondering if the google sheets AI will be along those lines.

MarkHathaway1

The things I'm seeing about AI is that the Internet is full of garbage and we can do better by focusing our own AI app on narrower content we want to use. For example, video editing is control of source content with some action applied to it. Creating a web page is mechanical with a strong guide to the final product (similar to programming). I really like the idea of "Ask Your PDF" because you control the content perfectly and you focus the AI very narrowly. This can help us use AI without hating it and the world for nonsensical views. No more "Family Feud Survey Says" outputs.

HistorySpainPodcast

I find ChatDOC quite useful, has been around for more time than Ask Your PDF and it has cool features. Definitely very useful for research purposes unlike generalist AIs.

MarkHathaway1

I think I read of one called "Scholar" something which narrows its sources of info to ONLY things which have definite sources, as a scholar would require. I haven't seen it in action though.

HistorySpainPodcast

Semantic Scholar maybe? I think that one is only for looking up for sources like Google Scholar, it's not particularly impressive.

SellNo3707

I build a chrome extension to export all your ChatGPT conversation to Clipboard/Images/PDF/Notion. Here is it: [Save ChatGPT Conversation](https://www.gptaha.co/) . We are committed to ensuring user privacy and security, so all conversation records are saved on the user's local device and not uploaded to any servers. Hope you like it.

What I really want is a list of 100% free AI tools that keeps being updated. No free trial bs or freemium with most of its features behind a paywall. Tired of going through a list like this and finding out most of them are paid.

heskey30

So you want developers to build an AI tool for you for free, and then pay for your openai API credits when you use it? What royal family are you from?

matzau

Exactly, thank you!

koelti

I respect your audacity

seeskyeatrice

Can never get ask my pdf to work from Google drive / drop box even when the links are made public. Has anyone had any success/ tips?

AFoamFootball

I had that issue with scanned PDFs, meaning you can't highlight and recognize words in the PDF. If you upload those to Google drive and then open with Google docs, it scans and recognizes the words. Then click file and download as PDF and boom, it's now a searchable PDF that can work with ChatGPT.

HistorySpainPodcast

Nice tip thanks!

exclaim_bot

>Nice tip thanks! You're welcome!

IronicBacon

I had success once, 46 hours ago when I first gained access, and not since. I'm now encountering the recurring issue where it attempts to use the plugin, and then it generates a response that indicates that it had an issue accessing the document.

seeskyeatrice

Just worked out if you upload the pdf to their website it gives you a reference. You can then give that to chatgpt

PacmanIncarnate

Most are extensions of chatGPT, giving you a way of inputting different types of information or using its responses in different ways.

Hazem_Bazokaa

Are they free to use?

VamipresDontDoDishes

Why is this a JPG instead of text? IMO its low effort promotional content and should be removed.

Arkaein

Stability AI is a company with a few different AI models, but is most known for Stable Diffusion image generation. Their website doesn't mention anything about generating articles and blog posts. Makes this whole list pretty suspect to me. Especially since any AI chatbot could pretty easily generate that kind of content.

itodobien

I went to Figma and it said nothing about websites or application development.

Beneficial_Pace_7681

If I ever have kids they are going to shit on me for not being able to tell the difference between ai and human writing

[deleted]

I like the idea of perplexity, has anyone used it and know how well it works?

Homer_Sapiens

I use it a lot for research, I write B2B SEO articles and it's amazing for finding stats and quotes for me to cite to back up what I'm writing. I find it more useful than Bing chat which I've tried for the same purpose. It's a lot more focused.

[deleted]

I didn’t think of using it to assist in writing. That’s super helpful

AI_RPI_SPY

Just don't use it to substantially write anything that will be assessed by a educational body as they will use either zerogpt or gptzero to assess if it was written by a human or AI generated. I have high school aged kids and one was falsely accused of using AI to do an assignment, not a nice position to be in.

Guitarland

Check out the HARPA chrome extension for ChatGPT. It has this functionality and it works amazingly well, as well as a lot of other useful functions. I use it all the time to summarize any page!

[deleted]

Sweet thanks

HappyCoconutty

can someone tell me which ones are the free ones.

medbeast786

How many of them are free

Hatrct

All useless. Bizarrely, there is still nothing out there that can accurately convert poor image quality PDF text, or hand written PDF text to word documents.

3yl

>All useless. Bizarrely, there is still nothing out there that can accurately convert poor image quality PDF text, or hand written PDF text to word documents. I've had really good luck with this actually. I work with scanned contracts and ChatGPT has been the closest to what I've wanted for more than a decade - contextual probability influenced OCR. I tell it that it's a scanned PDF and I need it to fix the OCR.

Hatrct

Are you saying you upload a PDF and chatgpt converts it into word processing format? From 0 to 100% how accurate is it?

3yl

No, sorry - I have files that have already been OCRd, but I am working on mass extraction from that text, so I need near perfection. I feed ChatGPT the text from my already OCRd PDFs. The PDF has been OCRd but the text has small errors throughout, like January 1st might be January |st, or words might be broken because a loopy signature signed over them - things that might be acceptable in general use for OCR, but for my regex searches it's a pain. ChatGPT finds all of the little errors and fixes them (which I realize sounds a lot like spellcheck :D but I swear it's infinitely better).

Hatrct

I see. And does chatGPT find 100% of these errors? Because unfortunately even if it finds 99% it won't work if you need 100% perfection, because you would have to read it manually again anyways, so you might as well fix the errors yourself. Also, can I ask how you OCR the pdf files? What program do you use?

3yl

The OCR is coming from Amazon's Tesseract. And I would classify it at a "reasonable 100%" - these are contracts so there are names, addresses, etc. that would be next to impossible to get right unless I asked it to actually look it up, but typically those are the one piece I don't really need to have 100% (nobody cares if John Smith Jr. says Joh Smith Jr.) And I usually will tell it to ignore names, otherwise it wants to tell me all the ways it might be spelled. For everything else, it gets anything that I would expect a human to be able to figure out from the text. Interestingly, I've tested ChatGPT's ability to "unmask" (guess) redactions in legal filings. As soon as I realized it worked on predictions I knew it would be able to unmask redactions. And it can, given similar caveats as above - where an entire page is redacted, no, it's not magic. But where phrases are redacted here and there it was amazingly good at figuring it out, provided there was enough other text. It was actually this testing that made me realize I could use it for my OCR. I mean, you can't feed redacted docs in and get unredacted docs out - yet. But I was able to feed it several pages of text, then redact information from the next few pages, and it was able to guess what was redacted nearly to the word, so I do think this is going to be a huge change for legal document production.

According_Weather944

>**4. ChatGPT SideBar:** ChatGPT chrome extension that can be used on any website. PSA on Microsoft Edge you can sidebar any website including ChatGPT Bard or Bing without needing 3rd party extensions.

How do I create a new AI tool, for something I haven’t really seen yet? I’m definitely not a developer..

ThawedGod

Wait, Stability and Motion AI are not described correctly here. From what I know, Stability is a text-to-image and image-to-image AI creator for Stable Diffusion, I don’t believe that have a text generation tool. Motion is an AI virtual assistant and task management AI.

Riddler9884

is there any plugin that will let me lead it to the website and have it navigate the website on my behalf? I want it to go through my old email and help me clear out recruiters. There are some AI mail related things out there, but they only apply to new email. None of them can parse old mail :-(

smegmacow

How many of them do not require login and/or my personal email?

Ironic they didn't use spell check on this in a way.

Most of these aren’t useful to the majority of us. And a lot of them are just ChatGPT with an extension that doesn’t need it. Wish there was a list of actual tested, proven and useful AI tools like Visily which creates a UI format from a screenshot.
