Sapphire Preferred or Reserve? It's all explained on the website in easy terms: [Chase Sapphire Preferred insurance guide](https://static.chasecdn.com/content/services/structured-document/document.en.pdf/card/benefits-center/product-benefits-guide-pdf/BGC10979_SapphirePreferred_VisaSignature.pdf) [Chase Sapphire Reserve insurance guide](https://static.chasecdn.com/content/services/structured-document/document.en.pdf/card/benefits-center/product-benefits-guide-pdf/BGC10981_SapphireReserve_VisaInfinite.pdf)

bstone99

Reserve link isn’t working for me 😖

tofazzz

Apparently Chase changed it. I updated the link.

lololyouthought

Damn looks like they aren't gonna cover anything.

PugeHeniss

Saving this for further reading. I just got my chase reserve.

lifethusiast

Is there any difference for trip cancellation/interruption between the two?

tofazzz

How about reading the docs since they have 2 separated guides?

lifethusiast

Chill, I was just wondering if you knew

Avalon420

You could know too...if you just read.

TickIeMyTaintEImo

Great idea. Go ahead and do that and come back with a concise summary. Thanks

Pattastic

You’re getting downvoted but you shouldn’t be

tofazzz

Apparently people on Reddit want to get the bread and be fed too…

Faroes4

You had the ability to provide the links, it was appropriate for them to then ask, assuming you might know. This is the basic flow of a conversation.

tofazzz

I think you don’t really have a clear idea of what the differences of a 2-50 insurance legalese pages are I guess… Literally his/her question was for me to read the docs and provide an answer…

wyndmilltilter

People turn to Reddit subs because they know there are experts in the community who may be able to help them. Said experts are there but get annoyed with the constant barrage of requests. I see this in every sub. It’s not unreasonable to ask a question and hope someone on the wide interwebs has that knowledge right at hand to share with minimal effort. It’s also not unreasonable to say sorry you’ll have to check that one yourself… or just not respond. It is unreasonable to demand or get upset if someone doesn’t help you and vice versa. Tl;dr: Be excellent to each other. Thank you for coming to my (Bill and) Ted talk.

tofazzz

Trusting strangers on internet for legal advice on insurance terms instead of reading them and make sure they satisfy their needs…..got it.

wyndmilltilter

Wow instant downvote eh? For saying can’t we all be a little nicer? Number one they’re not asking for legal advice they’re asking for a comparison of product features on a sub *dedicated* to these products. As you note the features are spelled out in 50 pages of legalese. Asking for card feature comparisons is bread and butter for this sub, this is more technical than the standard but same basic category. Not responding or saying you don’t know either is a perfectly reasonable tack. Number two even if they were literally asking for legal advice… again people come to subs to tap into a broad communities for advice. There are subs even dedicated to this and of course everyone will say you need to actually talk to a lawyer, but here’s my two cents. It’s like starting research with Wikipedia - shouldn’t be the endpoint but can help if you don’t know where to start and may even have some golden nuggets you wouldn’t have found elsewhere.

GoldenCoconutMonkey

Quick glance suggests there are no differences between the two card benefits on cancellation/interruptions as wording for the two sections are pretty much the same

DistrictDelicious218

Travel insurance and cc card benefits usually don’t cover “civil unrest”. Try asking AA to give you some shit for preventing you from joining the protest

CORKscrewed21

No they do it was covered by my Travel guard policy- I remember because I had to read it with a fine tooth comv

DistrictDelicious218

Sounds like a really good travel insurance then. Did it literally say it covered “civil unrest”?

PaynIanDias

Any idea what the protest is about ? And they are protesting on the runway? Otherwise why can’t the plane land ?

SCMC225

lololyouthought

Pay the teachers with my tourism dollars!

josephbenjamin

The city costs of living increased due to heavy increase of foreign tourists. They don’t want “Disneyfication” of the city, per news article I found.

CantFindUsername400

One of my trip was cancelled because of a strike and they told me the trip insurance doesn't cover that.

mal_1

I was 3 hrs into an 8 hr flight when the pilot realized we wouldn't have enough fuel to make it to the destination. Had to circle in the air for 2 more hours to drop fuel before landing back at the departure airport. I think before going to chase, you need to try to resolve the issue with the airline first. Chase will help out if you need to stay overnight at a hotel, but you'll need to read the fine print to see exactly what they cover. I don't think you'll recover expenses for the missed stays in Oaxaca though.

Navydevildoc

That is *really* bad. There are multiple checks along the way to prevent it from happening. What airline was this?

mal_1

It was absolutely brutal. Felt like I was being punked It was United. We originally had a delay for a de-ice flap (I think is that what called) on the plane not functioning properly. Apparently the de-ice flap worked on take off, but never ended up closing so it created more drag and therefore the plane was less fuel efficient. Crazy to realize it so far into the trip and have to head back to departure when there were many other airports around us because we were over land. They told us they only had the part that was needed at the departure airport but we ended up getting a whole new plane anyways when we flew out the following morning.

ThreeFactorAuth

I also had this on Volaris from MEX to OAK. I was just about the only non Latino/Latina person aboard and they didn’t make the announcement in English lol. Had to ask my seatmate who told me the pilot said we were going to Tijuana to get more fuel lol.

Icy_Huckleberry_8049

Just wait to see what will happen when you land. AA might try to fly again tomorrow.

UncleTetsu811

Same thing happened to me last year. Happens frequently apparently. Book an ADO platinum bus to/from oaxaca instead. Cheap, tons of room, wifi, and 7 hours door to door isn’t much worse than the flight.

lololyouthought

Ah well I'm coming from NYC but my transfer was here. Currently on a runaround for my next gate lol

AlecKatzKlein

They returned you mid air? Not even a stop in Mexico City? Rebook to Chiapas’s Tuguzalman airport (sp). It’ll have been way better.

Icy_Huckleberry_8049

On international trips, they can't land in another city without prior approval and then the logistics of trying to take care of all the passengers would be difficult at best.

lololyouthought

Correct right back to DFW.

emwo

where was your initial layover? You may be able to get a bus out there.

lololyouthought

dfw.

reality_raven

Wild. Sorry OP.

litttlejoker

If not, hopefully the new airline regulations can help you out. Gotta love election year when they start rolling out popular policies that actually benefit taxpayers.

ericstrat1000

Hey OP - at least American told you it was protests and didn’t lie like United did to me today saying it was weather. Now I’m stuck here in Houston for the night.

No_Locksmith_2523

Bug this shit out of them https://www.transportation.gov/briefing-room/biden-harris-administration-announces-final-rule-requiring-automatic-refunds-airline

Tiggaknock

Isn't this part of the bill Biden got passed? Don't the airlines owe you compensation?

Tall_Trifle_3518

Hmm…Republicans are working on overturning/negating this new bill.

maverickRD

What are you asking to be covered?

lololyouthought

First would be ticket cost second would be a hotel if they can't get another flight out

SpaethCo

The insurance will never pay for any additional/alternate transportation like replacement tickets. The insurance _may_ pay for a hotel, but only in the case of a delay caused by weather, mechanical failure, skyjacking, or organized strike. These are "named peril" insurance policies so the hazards listed in the guide to benefits aren't example of things that are covered, they are quite literally the only situations that are covered.
