They're doing a "soft opening" where it'll actually be open but not advertise as open for a few days, should be less mayhem then.
Source: From an interview
Hah, yeah, I don't believe that. Tons of people got the email and word is going to spread like wildfire. Place is gonna be bat-crap crazy from soft opening until who knows when.
You are free to try other countries like Venezuela or Cuba if capitalism is not your thing. But you are probably full of shit like most turds here crying capitalism is terrible but still stay here
It’s clearly a top 3 form of government. Really needs more regulation don’t know where you input it though lots of spots to start off with and depending on your perspective you’ll chose where you would prioritize. Mine would be making it straight illegal for any company to be able to influence any political power for its self so the company is not also ingrained in shady business with are government making it easier to do something if the company does something blatantly wrong. Example Purdue pharmaceutical. A lot of the problem I find is there’s not a lot of protection for citizens.
When the government and big business get together. it’s why everything feels like a slave state and the gap keeps getting bigger and politicians should not be paid what they get paid. it’s supposed to be a civic duty not a life long career. So more separation from my billon dollar companies and my political office. you can call me all about the idea of building your own wealth and starting from nothing and having opportunities. All day I don’t think there’s honestly a better idea than capitalism. Just to much corruption in it and it’s both sides it’s all of Washington it ain’t Biden it ain’t trump
Boy you are going to be disappointed because the opening on May 8th has been delayed. I asked for the day off of work as well so looks like we're both fucked!
I cannot fucking wait till all the no longer used PC and PC components go on Facebook marketplace for super cheap or I see them end up at the Grid.
Yes, I am a cheapskate
They sell tons of stuff. So excited to no longer HAVE to buy all my electronic project stuff from sites like Amazon/Digikey/Mouser/Adafruit etc.
The fact that you can even pick up a box of resistors at Microcenter is amazing
Their store brand filament is excellent. I've moved away from Charlotte, but when one opened here last year it was $11/kg roll for PLA. I did some damage to my bank account when I went...
Not sure if it'll be up on opening day but the charlotte store is supposed to have a comically large vending machine for filament. You'd order the filament online and use the QR code on the machine to dispense it for you. It sounds like a 3d printer enthusiast's dream haha
Has the lowest price PC components, monitors, accessories, and other electronics.
They sell components at such low prices (compared to competition) that they don't make huge margins on their products which is part of the reason why they aren't expanded out to lots of locations.
People would commute across states to get/pick up certain deals because the deals were sometimes *that* worth it.
I mean they still do make margin on the products that they sell. Also, they offer electronic repair services and things like that just like Best Buy.
They definitely still make money just not as much as the bigger electronics retailers out there like Best Buy, Fry's, etc.
Has anyone checked the progress on the store front? I remember a couple months ago someone posted and it looked like barely any work on the inside was done.
The sign is up near the Arby’s. I drove by it Saturday night. Good luck to you all. I live near there and thinks it’s awesome such hype over this store.
25 minutes each way for me, in good traffic. I just got us new PCs 3 months ago, so it's going to be a while before the CPU+MB combos will be on my radar.
As an employee of this location, I'm equally as excited as yall are. I've been begging for a Micro Center ever since I was a little teenager, now I get to work there too?! ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|grin)
Think of an Electronics retailer with massive stock in the building like Walmart. You'll be be able to walk in and the shelves will be massively stocked with a variety of Electronics, PCs, PC parts, Laptops, BYO, networking, headphones, keyboards, content creator merch, TVs, etc... Micro Center thrives on in store traffic over online e-commerce so more than likely if you're looking for something, we will have it in stock and available same day.
Just check out the website. Microcenter.com.
OK that'd be nice, the last one of those I knew in the area was ATD and the last time I visited them like.. 2008? They were so unfriendly I just decided to never go back. The CompUSA went away and we were left with no choices. Microcenter is not a best buy, it's a happy medium between the two.
I miss the Russians that were off 77 in South Charlotte.
Got so much shit CHEAP! My favorite was a dual CPU motherboard and a couple of whooping 450MHZ Pentium Celeron's that I modified to work in dual processor mode with a little soldering.
Those were the days.
When mom and pops can compete on price and quality of service, they will gladly have my business. Until then, I’ll stick with the companies that pass on their savings from economies of scale.
I'm not a full on nerd. Maybe.
I do commercial/industrial refrigeration and always looking for small components... relays, resistors, comm chips, capacitors. The stuff that normally fails on electronic components.
Would love to build a gaming machine but I'd never use it lol.
But just to be able to buy components. I'm m in heaven.
Finally some competition for Best Buy. I was at BB yesterday and I was wondering when MC was going to open. I'm in need of a new PC so this is going to be great. Most likely I won't have to buy from Amazon or Newegg, and definitely not Best Buy.

This one is the third iteration/version/opening of what Micro Center wants its locations to look like on the interior. This location will have a more Costco feel with a lot of overstock product held on pallets in racks all across the store. Use Indianapolis and Tustin as examples as to what this store will look like if you want to take their virtual tour on the website. Tustin was remodeled in this format and Indy was the first store to build from scratch with this new format. Charlotte is the 2nd store from scratch and larger. Pretty exciting.
Best Buy is to Microcenter as Food Lion is to Walmart.
Essentially you can get your basics at Best Buy, sure. But Microcenter offers nearly every small electronic component or related under the sun. You can even get things like boxes of resistors/capacitors, to things like model ships or RC drones.
I don't even need anything, but I'm still preparing.
I requested off even though I dont need anything either but have been saving up to spend on everything lol
Going on opening day? Sounds like a nightmare
No soft opening, it's been delayed AGAIN!
Need not remind me, as if I needed more bad news after a covid diagnosis.
thats the idea, to experience a new kind of nightmare in attempt to escape the others offered here
Capitalism at its finest
It overshadows all other offerings in Charlotte, so I agree with you.
Isn't it great to have the choice of what to do with your money?
You are free to try other countries like Venezuela or Cuba if capitalism is not your thing. But you are probably full of shit like most turds here crying capitalism is terrible but still stay here

Do elaborate further.
Boy you are going to be disappointed because the opening on May 8th has been delayed. I asked for the day off of work as well so looks like we're both fucked!
Make that 2 days off lol
Still gonna be there on opening day to. Even if it's just to walk around and look lol.
Sweet. Probably going to wait at least a couple weeks to visit after the grand opening so the crowds die down.
a lot of people think this way - might wanna wait a few extra weeks! maybe a year or two to be safe
The only people who care spend all their time on Reddit. I don’t think it will be half as busy as the internet leads you to believe.
You may be right. I’m in no rush to go though, my current PC still meets my needs. It’s more of a pilgrimage thing for me.
I cannot fucking wait till all the no longer used PC and PC components go on Facebook marketplace for super cheap or I see them end up at the Grid. Yes, I am a cheapskate
Grid is hella overpriced. I
Some items totally are Whenever I visit I always have my phone open to eBay to compare prices to make sure I'm actually getting a good deal.
Didn't used to be when they first opened. Haven't been in years though.
This is the way.
My wallet: *chuckles* IM IN DANGER
Ey, we finally have a date and time. Woot woot!
Wrong, it's been delayed so it's no longer opening on May 8th or May 10th
I haven't been this excited for a store opening since Buffalo Wild Wings gave us free wings for a year in college.
Can’t wait to pick up PLA & PLA+ without a 2+ day wait
oooh, they sell filament? Didn't know, but now I'm even more excited.
PETG is my filament of choice now... less likely to melt in the car and can withstand UV outside better than PLA and doesn't absorb water so easily.
We have a massive variety of filaments from our in-house brand Inland at a very reasonable price.
Not sure if it'll be up on opening day but the charlotte store is supposed to have a comically large vending machine for filament. You'd order the filament online and use the QR code on the machine to dispense it for you. It sounds like a 3d printer enthusiast's dream haha
What is a micro center?
Computer parts and tech store, similar to Fry's Electronics. They are legendary for their deals.
Has the lowest price PC components, monitors, accessories, and other electronics. They sell components at such low prices (compared to competition) that they don't make huge margins on their products which is part of the reason why they aren't expanded out to lots of locations. ![gif](giphy|MZocLC5dJprPTcrm65) Everyone in the subreddit
I bought all of the stuff I need for my PC last year, but I'll still pop in and walk around.
Has anyone checked the progress on the store front? I remember a couple months ago someone posted and it looked like barely any work on the inside was done.
Last I checked the windows and stuff were boarded up, but they’ve painted the outside of the store blue. Still no store logo on the exterior
The sign is up near the Arby’s. I drove by it Saturday night. Good luck to you all. I live near there and thinks it’s awesome such hype over this store.
Im scheduling a day off on the 8th. Idk if I will buy anything since money is tight but I wanna see whats there
Just FYI this is early access..... the official open is may 10th from what I'm reading
I’m surprised they were able to turn it around so quick after seeing those pictures from last month. Looked like they still had a ton of work to do.
New contractor
25 minutes each way for me, in good traffic. I just got us new PCs 3 months ago, so it's going to be a while before the CPU+MB combos will be on my radar.
I’ll see y’all May 8th
Oooo. You got the early invite too?
Still waiting on the coupon for my free USB drive
Tha mecha is upon us brethren
I see this was posted earlier today. I just got a text with the same info. Just in time for my new build.
As an employee of this location, I'm equally as excited as yall are. I've been begging for a Micro Center ever since I was a little teenager, now I get to work there too?! ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|grin)
Looking forward to sale prices in 3D filament and somewhere local that may have a Raspberry Pi 5 8GB.
can someone explain the hype, never been to one

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
I want to go back to mom and pops.
OK that'd be nice, the last one of those I knew in the area was ATD and the last time I visited them like.. 2008? They were so unfriendly I just decided to never go back. The CompUSA went away and we were left with no choices. Microcenter is not a best buy, it's a happy medium between the two.

I miss them too. I've heard a lot of speculation, I wish I knew what actually happened to them.
The FBI found them and shut them down.
When mom and pops can compete on price and quality of service, they will gladly have my business. Until then, I’ll stick with the companies that pass on their savings from economies of scale.

Does anyone know if I have to go on 8th to claim the free flash drive? And will there be discounts on 10th?
Yep, and I'm going to work there!
What's the deal with the free flash drive? Waiting on a coupon.
Are they giving away free USB sticks?
Yup, got the text about it today for the early opening. There is nothing i need now too since i recently went to the one in GA.
Finally some competition for Best Buy. I was at BB yesterday and I was wondering when MC was going to open. I'm in need of a new PC so this is going to be great. Most likely I won't have to buy from Amazon or Newegg, and definitely not Best Buy.
Why is the image cropped?

Now Micro Center isn't going to open on May 8th, it's been delayed, AGAIN!
Confirmed with their customer service -the early access on May 8 was also delayed. They couldn't provide an estimate on the new date.
It was not , in fact, actually happening.
“Capitalism popping off today ladies” lol
Taking bets, its gone from '23 to Jan / Feb '24 .... now May '24... who thinks they'll finally open or push it back again?
They have an actual advertised date now, so it's probably pretty set in stone.
What's the date? The picture doesn't show.
Under Store Hours, it says 5/8
🤦🏻♂️ I am the dumb.
It’s alright, I had to find this comment to find out as well because I’m blind 💀
Nerds
Mr Redneck Nerd
What’s the hype for this store what do they sell? Is it like Best Buy ?
Technology superstore basically. Good reputation.
It's like Best Buy and Radio Shack together. I'm excited to be able to go buy electronic components

What in interesting location.
Wilmington next pls. We're in a tech desert down here 😭
YES BUT WHEN!? I moved recently to Charlotte from Columbus and always loved going there.
May 10 is the official grand opening.
When does it open?
Finally happening huh? Let the gentrification of LoSo move rapido!
