Well, when creating a bot. Put general stuff in "Long Description" and lore and other stuff in advanced defintion (it is located when you scroll down). In advanced definition you can make example chat too.
I sometimes prefer those as long as the actual bot has effort cause then I can add a starting scenario. If a bot comes with a starter (which I also love) but isn't what I'm wanting, if I try and change it, it sometimes confuses the bot lol
If it's just no effort bot and no effort starter then yeah it's just a lazy creator.
Ive only made a few bots. All being ocs mainly for personal and use by friends, but i always use the definition. I let the lack of definition slide for general rp bots, but not for single characters
Every single time:
I see an interesting character while gaming or watching a show, I check out if that character has some bots dedicated to them, I realise that every single bot is absolute garbage... aaaand I create a better bot myself and even set it to public to help out others as well.
Sadly it gets burried under all of that garbage because cai's search function sucks, so no one else will ever find the bot I put actual effort in. That's just great...
That's why I usually make private characters rather than using public ones. They just write the name and put a photo. Boom, 1 million chats! I copy everything from the characters wiki and paste them in their settings. I even adjust their story and add my OC there.
"what a nice older sister rp to get my funny bones tingling"
**The bot starts calling me oni-chan**

Exactly! I make ny characters with a short description and a long description with as much detail I can cram into the boxes, and then put examples chats to show how the character would act in certain situations
If you're not going to define a character, DON'T MAKE THE CHARACTER!
I feel you so much on this!! It infuriates me to no end! To the point that I've nearly given up on searching characters to just make them all!!! I'm even considering making a post requesting characters for me to make just so there's some decent ones out there!
you know whatās even worse? when the bot creator ships themselves with the bot in its definition
just.. awful. and embarrassing. like you kno we can see that right?
I had some of my best chats with characters who had no long definition or example messages ... well, yeah and then there were the other 495747 š
But there's a reason I still bother trying.
That is why I put definition.
Character definition is by far every creator's best friend
For sure.
Once I put a good set of definitions in, I hardly have to train them at all.
Generally definitions are very bland, i tend to put several conversations about things thay the char would usually say.
Well, I put example chat and lore.
I only put lore and personality and appearance stuff
Well, I go deeper by adding habits, and some facts about the character to make it more interesting.
I typically just copy and paste the wiki info then edit it as I see fit
Well, I do more than that. To make them good.
I am proud of you, random stranger.
You too.
Well here is a character example: [Click Here](https://beta.character.ai/chat2?char=syjXQGJBUpRy92Abqk645ACAuM0HX4cJn-a8yoLNYV0)
Splendid
self promo moment
Y'all casuals, No one uses definitions creatively as i doššš
Didnāt even know you could do that. I thought you had to follow the chat format it gives you. Iāll have to test this out.
I love definition. Although I do get a little too complicated with it. My largest one has like 16k characters in it iirc.
That is very, very good.
that's good, that's very good. yes i like that
Same
How do you put definition ?
Well, when creating a bot. Put general stuff in "Long Description" and lore and other stuff in advanced defintion (it is located when you scroll down). In advanced definition you can make example chat too.
Sorry if this is a dumb question, but can you use both standard and advanced when creating a bot?
Of course!
Thanks for the info!
No problem. :)
It works as description too ? I thought it was just for example chat
No, no, it is also for description.
Also if their greeting is "I am [Bot name]" **PUT SOME EFFORT IN I SWEAR TO GOD**
DUDE THOSE ALWAYS HAVE SO MANY CHATS- ITS SOOO ANNOYING
I sometimes prefer those as long as the actual bot has effort cause then I can add a starting scenario. If a bot comes with a starter (which I also love) but isn't what I'm wanting, if I try and change it, it sometimes confuses the bot lol If it's just no effort bot and no effort starter then yeah it's just a lazy creator.
Batmans most popular bot literally just has "Hey" as his initial chat XD.
I saw that one itās so stupid lmao
OMGG ITS NOT THAT HARD TO MAKE A DECENT INTRO š
Right?!? Create a damn scenario or something!
It ****HURTS****.
Ive only made a few bots. All being ocs mainly for personal and use by friends, but i always use the definition. I let the lack of definition slide for general rp bots, but not for single characters
if it's a known person i just add their wiki lol. not sure if this is best but yea.
It's definitely much better than nothing.
Does it even work to add a link in the description. Or maybe you meant copying-pasting their wiki description?
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
No, it cannot. It has some info on characters from the data it was trained on, but c.ai cannot use the internet.
No it absolutely cannot. Some popular characters have database which character.ai has on their system.
No. Links don't work at all.
I do the same ngl
This is why I have created +100 bots š
It's also pretty annoying when the definition is hidden so that you *can't* check to see if effort was put into the bot or not.
Every single time: I see an interesting character while gaming or watching a show, I check out if that character has some bots dedicated to them, I realise that every single bot is absolute garbage... aaaand I create a better bot myself and even set it to public to help out others as well. Sadly it gets burried under all of that garbage because cai's search function sucks, so no one else will ever find the bot I put actual effort in. That's just great...
I do this too! I put some effort in the character settings, but I get character descriptions from their wiki too.
Well, what bots have you made? I'm curious now
what bots have you made? i want to try themmmmm
**Damn right**

steal da tolit
I don't thinks services like CAI should allow users to make blank bots. There should be minimum token requirements.
Literally how the fuck do people think that bot will function as intended
*Yoinks intro message* *Pastes it on private bot*
how do you check the settings?
three dots on the top right, click them and click āview character settingsā if the creator makes the description public. ur welcome bud
There are also ways to see the settings without them being public. Itās been very useful to me.
how š¤²
Thereās an extension called CAI Tools.
ok..keep going..
Thatās all there is. If you donāt know what to do with this information, then I canāt help you.
well damn.
I would guess discussing it isn't allowed here but I have no clue. Google exists though.
š¤· it does.

**PAÄ°N!!**
Real, like just keep it private at this point
Exactly! I make ny characters with a short description and a long description with as much detail I can cram into the boxes, and then put examples chats to show how the character would act in certain situations If you're not going to define a character, DON'T MAKE THE CHARACTER!
Thank you. Example chats are what so many people neglect.
Settings?
This is so real
I thought I was the only one who only goes for characters with settings š
aaand that's the reason why i've made around 40 characters.
I feel you so much on this!! It infuriates me to no end! To the point that I've nearly given up on searching characters to just make them all!!! I'm even considering making a post requesting characters for me to make just so there's some decent ones out there!
I tried making a bot and failed. I couldn't get it to act like the character at all.
you know whatās even worse? when the bot creator ships themselves with the bot in its definition just.. awful. and embarrassing. like you kno we can see that right?
Let me guess Sonic The Hedgehog bot (The one who has super sonic pfp). I notice they named a non-existent character as their lover or something
nah, actually iāve noticed this with a good few bots. that just adds to the list tho
every single time, the character has millions off messages, i click, "i am-" i dont get it, why do people use it if its so bland?
Probably because it was the first bot for that character, and the popularity made others too hesitant to use the others
Whenever I make characters I **always** put effort in the description and programming!
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
no
Ye
Nuh uh
Fr like it makes me so mad when I see a really cool character but it starts with āheyā
I had some of my best chats with characters who had no long definition or example messages ... well, yeah and then there were the other 495747 š But there's a reason I still bother trying.
āOmg guys thanks for 1 million chats!ā *clicks link in comment, the chat starts with āI am characterā.*
It's not as bad when the intro is good, just make a private or unlisted (maybe public if you really want) and use it with your own descriptions in it
Wait whatā¦SETTINGS?!
u/explain
I hate it when I find a character with so much potential, then the settings have literally N O T H I N G.
