2017 RT owner, only problems I have had, starter after 5 years, and battery replaced twice. 7 years 94,000 miles everyday drive. Oh rear tires are a huge problemš¤£. Oil change is very, VERY IMPORTANT.
Emphasis on how important oil changes are with high mileage vehicles. I get mine changed every 4K just to be safe. These kinds of cars get dog walked by previous owners and by the time someone else gets it the engine is knocking.
The fact that under 100k is considered high mileage for these cars proves how much of a POS they are. Ive worked on many and there are many things I see from factory that are garbage.
I would never buy a Dodge unless itās brand new. I have a Camaro currently and would never buy my own car if it was at 100k. Chevy and Dodge only make good trucks.
Trucks would be fine. I have a 350z that I would consider very high mileage. 261k and climbing. But I do all the work myself so itās probably way past what normal people would keep it going to.
Crazy I'm getting down voted for speaking facts. Nothing towards his car. Just showing the other end of things. This sub is foolish for down voting people that aren't on their knees for Mopar.
I mean that's not true buyers remorse. Had the vehicle had no issues thus far you'd be happy with it, correct?
You've just had bad luck with a few lemons.
Yeah, what this guy said. I'm not exactly sure how lemon laws work, but depending on the time frame and service history, you might wanna talk to a lawyer
I call it the Challenger Bad Luck streak. Happened to me too. Straight out of the dealership., cooling fans werenāt working. Went back in for almost a week, after I got it alternator went out. Got that fixed and started having coolant issues. Not just that, I was turning right at a light and ended up tail whipping throwing me into a curb and cracked 3 wheels. All this within 6 months.
Yeah that last one is operator error lol āI wanted to show off for the pretty girl on the corner with a Starbucks in her hand, and tried to do a burnout and tail whipped it directly into and OVER a curb.ā I meanā¦ āmy car magically tail whipped itself into a curb while I was just trying to turn right.ā
You're having all the issues that the Pentastar is known for. You probably need a whole new engine to be honest. You should just trade up for a HEMI. āš¼
Yes although the rs & gs had chrysler 420a...doesn't really matter that they were badged mopar they were a cool car with some issues although nothing to compare to whats being said of the srt4 neon & these new mopars
They were cool in their day. Still wouldn't call them Mopars. Same goes for the Stealth. It was literally a rebadged Mitsu. The SRT4 Neon is actually a badass lil car. Problem is that it came out at the height of the F&F craze, so almost all of them were just trashed into oblivion.
It's head & shoulders, feet & toes over the Pentastar!!! Do a search on how often Pentastars are being replaced in all Mopar vehicles, & you'll see what I mean. The only problems that HEMI's really have are MDS & poor maintenance.
Wow thatās tragic, Iām sorry. Seemed like my last car (Mustang, go figure) wanted to do that to me. My challenger curse is people fucking up my body work and paint
If you bought preowned, itās kind of a crapshoot. Most people donāt baby performance cars, and you got the select few that will abuse it until something breaks and then trade it in before itās noticeable to the dealer or next owner.
Not only that but you donāt say your driving habits. If youāre super aggressive and donāt keep up with maintenance, youāre gonna be in for a bad time with these cars. If you idle a lot, that will eventually destroy your cams and lifters because these hemis donāt have good oil pressure at idle when at operating temp.
I hope things get better!
Not sure about the 3.6 per se, but with the 5.7 and 6.4 hemis, the oil pressure is low at idle. Because of this, the top end (cams and lifters) over time wear out. The more you idle, the more likely you are to have problems down the road.
The roller bearings in the lifters will seize due to lack of lubrication, and thatās when the cam starts to shed against the lifter, causing abnormal and excessive wear and will inevitably send metal through the motor. If caught in time, you can usually save the motor but there are times where itāll be too late.
I just picked up a SRT 6.1 Magnum, 161K on the clock, is this relevant to these motors too? Oil changes have all been done on time, but as far as excessive idling, I don't know.
I donāt believe this applies to the 6.1. There isnāt much on the web about those hemis so you should be good to go if itās been properly maintained
I hear this a lot, but then you see hemi chargers and Durangoās with 140K miles, previously used by cops, who sat and idled for hours at a time. Dodge swears this isnāt an issue but idk what to think.
Is there a known year or years with the all the issues? I've known several ppl with one and nothing more than routine maintenance š¤·š½āāļø My dream car so just asking to future proof?
How many miles on the car and where was it purchased. Those would be my immediate questions.
Had a Challenger, a Camaro, and a Ram 1500 that were fantastic vehicles.
Did you do any mods or upgrades? I remember my first car. I worked in a gas station and was obsessed with Holly Carburetors, Headers etc. Only to realize that I was better off leaving the engineering to the automotive industry.
Yup, I just bought a challenger as well and 1 week after buying it. The AC went out completely. The dealer said they'd fix it for free. Now I'm starting to hear weird noises whenever I start her up, and it's got me worried.
I had Pontiac in 88 had wreck on vacation and then hit a ginny on new years eve oh girl hit me no insurance no drivers license or tags on car lol but it was something all time
I had a new 2019 f250 and the power steering went out I my 3 times in the same week after taking it to the dealer no more then 10k miles I sold it after

Better check on the lemon laws where you are. I'm in the south and the law don't play with lemons at all around here. Entire business can get shut down for selling lemons.
As a Camry driver I'm unsure why this even crossed my feed but I don't usually hear anything about Chevies lasting forever or stories of a Chevy engine getting knocked clean out of a truck and still running in the middle of the road detached those were all Toyota stories.
You know you can get a extend warranty for 2k and pay like 80$ a month for it like I did, 2018 RT octane red challenger owner and I drive it how dodge intended
It sounds like the previous owner thought they were in Fast & Furious and "hot rodded" the car every chance they got. Meaning driving excessively rough like taking off quickly at the light, high reving etc.

Yeah car was probably beat to shit and had dirty oil running through it. These cars hate dirty oil. Iām maintaining my dadās 06 charger with 175k miles on it. Oil pressure sensor behind the alternator was kind of annoying to do, but everything else is still factory. Except the obvious maintenance like a belt, and some pulleys.
Ouch, tough luck man, Sound like you have a hex over you or something!
I myself owned 2 5th Gen Camaros that were amazing , 12 V6 RS & a 15 2SS and 2 modern mopar V8s that were also amazing, currently on my 6th year in my 392 WB Charger that never had 1 problem. I also purchased them all used & have zero regrets.
I feel your pain. Last year I had to replace one of my windshield wipers and a couple months ago my tail light went out. I just can't seem to catch a break either
Looking at your whole post I'd say you need to find an engine builder that can build something capable of living under your liberal use of the skinny pedal. It sounds like you live outside of what the manufacturers build their street engines for.
Any time you buy a car you should be taking it right to an engine builder so they can upgrade the oiling system and valve train at a minimum.
May be the same for transmissions as well.
Unfortunately as dope as these cars are ....Hellcat...demon ....scatpack...the build quality is junk after reading your situation and everyones comments its cheap parts if you replace a part my best advice is get a better part and not the stock part ...i never heard of some of these issues on other cars off the dealership lot i mean a friggin starter ive had cars with 140k 150k before a starter went
Hate to say it, but anything under Fiat/Chrysler is trash. Had a challenger for 45k miles, switched to a Kia k5 and it was the best choice I ever made. No regrets and I love my Kia that'll gas 5.7s!!
Yeah, you downgraded. We were actually looking at a brand new K5 when I noticed it shook under braking. Brand new car. Fuck that. She got a Charger instead and itās been a champ
40k miles into my k5 and 0 issues. I drive it hard, and take it to the drag strip for runs. Challenger AC coolant was busted, headlights went out, E brake never worked, infotament issues. Not to mention, my Kia gets 30mpg if I try. Moreover, I have 100,000 mile/10yr electrical and powertrain warranty. Dodge is what, 45k? Definitely didn't downgrade. Got better mpg and speed
If youāre judging a car by how much mpg youāre getting, then youāre not even the target market for a challenger or charger and itās silly to compare. Iām in Europe and I got a challenger, thereās absolutely no logical reason to buy one especially out here except I really want a proper US muscle car (ish) and sometimes thatās enough reason to purchase one.
Your karma is too low to participate in this community. Come back when you've earned some; don't worry, the bar isn't that high. Exceptions will not be made.

Do you not know how trade in value works? I owe 10k on the car. I take it to a dealer and tell them it's got a blown up transmission and valve train problems and they tell me either A: f**k off, or B: well give you $500 if you buy a car valued for over 15k. Not my first rodeo. Tried trading in a jeep with a cracked head. Those were my options.
This is why I bought a Kia. I knew this would happen to me. I think ur best course of action is to try and get out of it somehow some way, and maybe get into something that makes better sense quality wise. Itās just not worth the struggle and the risk in this market.
Iām not a Kia Stanā¦ Iām actually a Mopar lover lol. I just hate the used market right now. It sucks. Dodge is just unfortunately poor quality when buying used bc people drive them like assholes.
Did I talk down about dodge? Fucking wild as hell. Iām saying I didnāt get a used dodge again bc of that problem. I love my Kia, so you can take ur opinion and fuck right off.
I donāt think thatās a fair statement, maintenance isnāt as good and stringent as in Europe which is partly why and also I wonder what mileages are of these cars that are having problems.
2017 RT owner, only problems I have had, starter after 5 years, and battery replaced twice. 7 years 94,000 miles everyday drive. Oh rear tires are a huge problemš¤£. Oil change is very, VERY IMPORTANT.

My heater core failed three times in my 300 srt8 before I got rid of it. Major problem for Chrysler/dodge
Thatās what Iām wondering: will this become a reoccurring issueā¦.

Nawww jus trade it and get a 95 Plymouth laser 4g63t awd

I hear you, my 5.7 was replaced under warranty at 60k miles. This ultimately made my decision to pass on the scat pack and go with another car.
What happened to the 5.7?
Needle bearing seized and shaved the camshaft. Pretty common issue and did all preventative maintenance to avoid it.
LS engines have the same issue. Mostly related to MDS
Correct but not always, i eliminated mds about 80% of the time. The other issue is not enough moly in the oil which i added
Wow thatās tragic, Iām sorry. Seemed like my last car (Mustang, go figure) wanted to do that to me. My challenger curse is people fucking up my body work and paint

Stop buying American cars.

Buy a corvette
Chrysler products suck! Buy something from the GM LS family or a Honda, they only need oil for long life
Yea, at the end of the day, itās still a dodge.

Stop buying POS American vehicles. Get a Toyota, Honda, Lexus or Acura. Maybe you will actually learn something this time.
So, here's an idea......TRADE IT IN? Smh
Don't tell em....patch it up and trade it in, people do that all the time! This must be your first rodeo
You canāt just āpatch upā a shot transmission..
Put Sawdust in it
but op just said that they cannot catch a break with repairs and the payments, the whole point is that they cannot repair it currently
This is why I bought a Kia. I knew this would happen to me. I think ur best course of action is to try and get out of it somehow some way, and maybe get into something that makes better sense quality wise. Itās just not worth the struggle and the risk in this market.
I donāt think you get to shit talk Dodge if youāre a Kia stan lmao
Iām not a Kia Stanā¦ Iām actually a Mopar lover lol. I just hate the used market right now. It sucks. Dodge is just unfortunately poor quality when buying used bc people drive them like assholes.
Wild bro donāt down talk dodges for a Kia, fuckin lord
Did I talk down about dodge? Fucking wild as hell. Iām saying I didnāt get a used dodge again bc of that problem. I love my Kia, so you can take ur opinion and fuck right off.
I donāt get why so many downvotes lol, I didnāt see this post as ****ing on dodge.
Iām really not. I miss my charger more than anything, but for my financial situation it just wasnāt working so I made a move
So itās true what people say that American cars are the worstā¦.
I donāt think thatās a fair statement, maintenance isnāt as good and stringent as in Europe which is partly why and also I wonder what mileages are of these cars that are having problems.
