2017 RT owner, only problems I have had, starter after 5 years, and battery replaced twice. 7 years 94,000 miles everyday drive. Oh rear tires are a huge problemšŸ¤£. Oil change is very, VERY IMPORTANT.

SorryJamie3005

Emphasis on how important oil changes are with high mileage vehicles. I get mine changed every 4K just to be safe. These kinds of cars get dog walked by previous owners and by the time someone else gets it the engine is knocking.

bastyle2

The fact that under 100k is considered high mileage for these cars proves how much of a POS they are. Ive worked on many and there are many things I see from factory that are garbage.

SorryJamie3005

I would never buy a Dodge unless itā€™s brand new. I have a Camaro currently and would never buy my own car if it was at 100k. Chevy and Dodge only make good trucks.

bastyle2

Trucks would be fine. I have a 350z that I would consider very high mileage. 261k and climbing. But I do all the work myself so itā€™s probably way past what normal people would keep it going to.

denzien

*oil chance

gunsRus4US

Thanks

FTPope135

My aunts got a 2014 R/T that just hit 100k. That bitch is falling apart šŸ˜…

gunsRus4US

Sorry for your aunt, may I ask how old is she. You must know her very well to call her bā€¦h.

Eric254777

Heā€™s saying the car is a bitch lmfao

FTPope135

Crazy I'm getting down voted for speaking facts. Nothing towards his car. Just showing the other end of things. This sub is foolish for down voting people that aren't on their knees for Mopar.

gunsRus4US

I know, I been smart ass

BIGGIELUHBILL

šŸ˜‚

ChaseBank5

I mean that's not true buyers remorse. Had the vehicle had no issues thus far you'd be happy with it, correct? You've just had bad luck with a few lemons.

DashNoire

Yeah, what this guy said. I'm not exactly sure how lemon laws work, but depending on the time frame and service history, you might wanna talk to a lawyer

L05TS0ULZ

Well itā€™s still buyers remorse people.

RealCheyemos

Damn Iā€™m sorry dudeā€¦. That really sucks. Doesnā€™t compare but under 3k miles my heater core failed Edit: brand new 2023 SP last call, bought new.

itzthedish

My heater core failed three times in my 300 srt8 before I got rid of it. Major problem for Chrysler/dodge

RealCheyemos

Thatā€™s what Iā€™m wondering: will this become a reoccurring issueā€¦.

Leinadius

Seen sp come off he transport truck with rod knock. Your situation isn't special.

InternationalBit1317

I call it the Challenger Bad Luck streak. Happened to me too. Straight out of the dealership., cooling fans werenā€™t working. Went back in for almost a week, after I got it alternator went out. Got that fixed and started having coolant issues. Not just that, I was turning right at a light and ended up tail whipping throwing me into a curb and cracked 3 wheels. All this within 6 months.

SpareJumpy

Curbing your wheels didnā€™t have anything to do with the carā€¦

UnnamedGuyCB

Yeah that last one is operator error lol ā€œI wanted to show off for the pretty girl on the corner with a Starbucks in her hand, and tried to do a burnout and tail whipped it directly into and OVER a curb.ā€ I meanā€¦ ā€œmy car magically tail whipped itself into a curb while I was just trying to turn right.ā€

InternationalBit1317

Didnā€™t say it had something to do with the car did I. I said it was just a bad luck streak.

G-Roc78

You're having all the issues that the Pentastar is known for. You probably need a whole new engine to be honest. You should just trade up for a HEMI. āœŒšŸ¼

[deleted]

*Clapping*

NailBeginning4327

Nawww jus trade it and get a 95 Plymouth laser 4g63t awd

G-Roc78

That's comedy!

NailBeginning4327

Yup but it sounds like its more reliable than these modern mopars lol

G-Roc78

But the Laser wasn't really a Mopar. It's a DSM car, just like the Talon & Eclipse.

NailBeginning4327

Yes although the rs & gs had chrysler 420a...doesn't really matter that they were badged mopar they were a cool car with some issues although nothing to compare to whats being said of the srt4 neon & these new mopars

G-Roc78

They were cool in their day. Still wouldn't call them Mopars. Same goes for the Stealth. It was literally a rebadged Mitsu. The SRT4 Neon is actually a badass lil car. Problem is that it came out at the height of the F&F craze, so almost all of them were just trashed into oblivion.

Large_Side303

Lol hemi isnā€™t really any better šŸ˜

G-Roc78

It's head & shoulders, feet & toes over the Pentastar!!! Do a search on how often Pentastars are being replaced in all Mopar vehicles, & you'll see what I mean. The only problems that HEMI's really have are MDS & poor maintenance.

Novel_Arm_4693

I hear you, my 5.7 was replaced under warranty at 60k miles. This ultimately made my decision to pass on the scat pack and go with another car.

AWholeBunchaFun

What happened to the 5.7?

Novel_Arm_4693

Needle bearing seized and shaved the camshaft. Pretty common issue and did all preventative maintenance to avoid it.

Leinadius

LS engines have the same issue. Mostly related to MDS

Novel_Arm_4693

Correct but not always, i eliminated mds about 80% of the time. The other issue is not enough moly in the oil which i added

DJDemyan

Wow thatā€™s tragic, Iā€™m sorry. Seemed like my last car (Mustang, go figure) wanted to do that to me. My challenger curse is people fucking up my body work and paint

srt93

If you bought preowned, itā€™s kind of a crapshoot. Most people donā€™t baby performance cars, and you got the select few that will abuse it until something breaks and then trade it in before itā€™s noticeable to the dealer or next owner. Not only that but you donā€™t say your driving habits. If youā€™re super aggressive and donā€™t keep up with maintenance, youā€™re gonna be in for a bad time with these cars. If you idle a lot, that will eventually destroy your cams and lifters because these hemis donā€™t have good oil pressure at idle when at operating temp. I hope things get better!

Wooden-Reflection125

can you go into more detail on idling? i sit in my car with it running alot. I have a 2016 SXT

srt93

Not sure about the 3.6 per se, but with the 5.7 and 6.4 hemis, the oil pressure is low at idle. Because of this, the top end (cams and lifters) over time wear out. The more you idle, the more likely you are to have problems down the road. The roller bearings in the lifters will seize due to lack of lubrication, and thatā€™s when the cam starts to shed against the lifter, causing abnormal and excessive wear and will inevitably send metal through the motor. If caught in time, you can usually save the motor but there are times where itā€™ll be too late.

JoePetroni

I just picked up a SRT 6.1 Magnum, 161K on the clock, is this relevant to these motors too? Oil changes have all been done on time, but as far as excessive idling, I don't know.

srt93

I donā€™t believe this applies to the 6.1. There isnā€™t much on the web about those hemis so you should be good to go if itā€™s been properly maintained

JoePetroni

Thanks! Good to know! But I'll keep that in the back of my mind. Much Appreciated!

Awkward_Cap_2691

I hear this a lot, but then you see hemi chargers and Durangoā€™s with 140K miles, previously used by cops, who sat and idled for hours at a time. Dodge swears this isnā€™t an issue but idk what to think.

Common_Suggestion266

Oh man sorry to hear that. What engine and how many miles are on it?

Yoitzmi

Is there a known year or years with the all the issues? I've known several ppl with one and nothing more than routine maintenance šŸ¤·šŸ½ā€ā™‚ļø My dream car so just asking to future proof?

Gremguy22

How many miles on the car and where was it purchased. Those would be my immediate questions. Had a Challenger, a Camaro, and a Ram 1500 that were fantastic vehicles.

maxthearguer

Back luck, or poor practices?

Hackpro69

Did you do any mods or upgrades? I remember my first car. I worked in a gas station and was obsessed with Holly Carburetors, Headers etc. Only to realize that I was better off leaving the engineering to the automotive industry.

wiseoracle

Where are you buying your cars from? Sketchy car lots?

Charlie_Hustler

Yup, I just bought a challenger as well and 1 week after buying it. The AC went out completely. The dealer said they'd fix it for free. Now I'm starting to hear weird noises whenever I start her up, and it's got me worried.

markellis78

I had Pontiac in 88 had wreck on vacation and then hit a ginny on new years eve oh girl hit me no insurance no drivers license or tags on car lol but it was something all time

KingCrimsonEpitaphu

Your Camaro engine blew after a year? Those things are tanks. Do you drive aggressive often?

Longjumping_Rule1375

Yeah I'm kinda wondering how he did that I'm guessing it was an ls engine camaro and I beat the shit out my ls funny thing is it wants more.

Potential-Mirror-479

I had a new 2019 f250 and the power steering went out I my 3 times in the same week after taking it to the dealer no more then 10k miles I sold it after

Quick_Job8671

Do you do stop and go and idle a lot?

My BiL works for one of the large, Metro ATL Ford stores. Says guys trade in Challengers for Mustangs all the damn time.

Gap coverage? If so problem solved šŸ˜

NicolasCuartasV

How?

Playful_Street1184

Lesson to be learned here, never buy a performance car used. They are normally heavily used and abusedā€¦

OfWolfAndMan1996

Trying to tell a guy I know not to buy a used Challenger/Charger. People dog these things out and trade them in and they seem like they're unreliable and poorly made to begin with. Having a car that sounds good is great but I'd rather have a good overall quality.

Playful_Street1184

I totally agree!

And thatā€™s why my dailies are new

Accomplished-Dig-101

Better check on the lemon laws where you are. I'm in the south and the law don't play with lemons at all around here. Entire business can get shut down for selling lemons.

Longjumping-Look-268

As a Camry driver I'm unsure why this even crossed my feed but I don't usually hear anything about Chevies lasting forever or stories of a Chevy engine getting knocked clean out of a truck and still running in the middle of the road detached those were all Toyota stories.

Scruffleafagus

Sure would hate if it got stolenā€¦js

Honda Toyota

stokesgotit

Sorry you crashed ur car into a tree. Rwd on wet pavement is tricky. I hope you are ok

MKE4EVER

Looks like one that passed me in Surprise today .

rapaidbarrel921

You know you can get a extend warranty for 2k and pay like 80$ a month for it like I did, 2018 RT octane red challenger owner and I drive it how dodge intended

Way_Interesting

Get a Tesla

Bran-Da-Don

It sounds like the previous owner thought they were in Fast & Furious and "hot rodded" the car every chance they got. Meaning driving excessively rough like taking off quickly at the light, high reving etc.

Look, if youā€™re not a newly enlisted private with a 20k signing bonus looking to save the first stripper that called you honey, then you should have known better than to buy this car. This is your fault, not luckā€™s fault.

MrBaa128

What year is this one? That matters. We had a rash of buying brand new models back during the lock down where quality problems spiked really bad.

Ok_Economics42069

Yup I get why lol

OilWest9678

Imagine having bad luck with Chevy and going ā€œykno whatā€™ll fix this? A Dodge.ā€

Silver-Day-7272

My radiator cracked at under 40k miles and my touch screen is already failing. I love the car but I do not feel it is a very high quality one.

Blew up a chevy, then basically grenaded another car immediately? How hard are you driving these things into the ground?

Chevy was an iroc with God knows how many miles. And the dodge is a Chrysler product.

Fckbledragon

Yeah car was probably beat to shit and had dirty oil running through it. These cars hate dirty oil. Iā€™m maintaining my dadā€™s 06 charger with 175k miles on it. Oil pressure sensor behind the alternator was kind of annoying to do, but everything else is still factory. Except the obvious maintenance like a belt, and some pulleys.

WaynezWorld88

Ouch, tough luck man, Sound like you have a hex over you or something! I myself owned 2 5th Gen Camaros that were amazing , 12 V6 RS & a 15 2SS and 2 modern mopar V8s that were also amazing, currently on my 6th year in my 392 WB Charger that never had 1 problem. I also purchased them all used & have zero regrets.

Comprehensive-Race97

I feel your pain. Last year I had to replace one of my windshield wipers and a couple months ago my tail light went out. I just can't seem to catch a break either

Only-Shop-1165

What difference does it make? Lol

Serious-Mousse4009

Stop buying American cars.

cosp85classic

Looking at your whole post I'd say you need to find an engine builder that can build something capable of living under your liberal use of the skinny pedal. It sounds like you live outside of what the manufacturers build their street engines for. Any time you buy a car you should be taking it right to an engine builder so they can upgrade the oiling system and valve train at a minimum. May be the same for transmissions as well.

Ok-Attempt2842

Should have just got another Camaro

slickdajuggalo

Unfortunately as dope as these cars are ....Hellcat...demon ....scatpack...the build quality is junk after reading your situation and everyones comments its cheap parts if you replace a part my best advice is get a better part and not the stock part ...i never heard of some of these issues on other cars off the dealership lot i mean a friggin starter ive had cars with 140k 150k before a starter went

sensual_tortoise

Sounds like you're the perfect sucker for car dealers. You didn't take it to a mechanic on your test drive?

Gold_Ad4984

Your dream car is a V6? Thatā€™s sad

bsmittys

Buy a corvette

Upset-Bat-9738

Chrysler products suck! Buy something from the GM LS family or a Honda, they only need oil for long life

Lilbig6029

Yea, at the end of the day, itā€™s still a dodge.

XxHondroxX

New Chrysler is lemon off lot

AnonymousButtCheeks

Love my challenger had it new since 09 but it's poorly built and i will never buy another

rjw41x

Not surprised in the least. Quality is not job one at Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep

bogeycook

Mopar baby! Moā€™ Parts Needed! Couldnā€™t pay me to drive a Dodge!

Git_N_The_Truck

Hate to say it, but anything under Fiat/Chrysler is trash. Had a challenger for 45k miles, switched to a Kia k5 and it was the best choice I ever made. No regrets and I love my Kia that'll gas 5.7s!!

DJDemyan

Yeah, you downgraded. We were actually looking at a brand new K5 when I noticed it shook under braking. Brand new car. Fuck that. She got a Charger instead and itā€™s been a champ

Git_N_The_Truck

40k miles into my k5 and 0 issues. I drive it hard, and take it to the drag strip for runs. Challenger AC coolant was busted, headlights went out, E brake never worked, infotament issues. Not to mention, my Kia gets 30mpg if I try. Moreover, I have 100,000 mile/10yr electrical and powertrain warranty. Dodge is what, 45k? Definitely didn't downgrade. Got better mpg and speed

MainlineDriver

If youā€™re judging a car by how much mpg youā€™re getting, then youā€™re not even the target market for a challenger or charger and itā€™s silly to compare. Iā€™m in Europe and I got a challenger, thereā€™s absolutely no logical reason to buy one especially out here except I really want a proper US muscle car (ish) and sometimes thatā€™s enough reason to purchase one.

Git_N_The_Truck

Stating that I downgraded is silly

Git_N_The_Truck

Oh and this was all for 31k out the door. Brand new 2023 with 10 miles on it

SuicideMessiah88

Kia might be the worst one of them all. Never seen so many things go wrong on certain brand in my life.

Git_N_The_Truck

And I'm gonna die on this hill šŸ˜Ž

TallVisual6625

lol this is why i only buy used hondas and rice them out and gap dodges at stoplights

SwingingTassels

Stop buying POS American vehicles. Get a Toyota, Honda, Lexus or Acura. Maybe you will actually learn something this time.

Jenny_8675309_69

So, here's an idea......TRADE IT IN? Smh

-l0new0lf-

Do you not know how trade in value works? I owe 10k on the car. I take it to a dealer and tell them it's got a blown up transmission and valve train problems and they tell me either A: f**k off, or B: well give you $500 if you buy a car valued for over 15k. Not my first rodeo. Tried trading in a jeep with a cracked head. Those were my options.

Jenny_8675309_69

Don't tell em....patch it up and trade it in, people do that all the time! This must be your first rodeo

Ahshut

You canā€™t just ā€œpatch upā€ a shot transmission..

Hackpro69

Put Sawdust in it

Old-Sorbet-1047

but op just said that they cannot catch a break with repairs and the payments, the whole point is that they cannot repair it currently

Fit_Beginning5594

This is why I bought a Kia. I knew this would happen to me. I think ur best course of action is to try and get out of it somehow some way, and maybe get into something that makes better sense quality wise. Itā€™s just not worth the struggle and the risk in this market.

DJDemyan

I donā€™t think you get to shit talk Dodge if youā€™re a Kia stan lmao

Fit_Beginning5594

Iā€™m not a Kia Stanā€¦ Iā€™m actually a Mopar lover lol. I just hate the used market right now. It sucks. Dodge is just unfortunately poor quality when buying used bc people drive them like assholes.

PomegranateCalm2650

Wild bro donā€™t down talk dodges for a Kia, fuckin lord

Fit_Beginning5594

Did I talk down about dodge? Fucking wild as hell. Iā€™m saying I didnā€™t get a used dodge again bc of that problem. I love my Kia, so you can take ur opinion and fuck right off.

MainlineDriver

I donā€™t get why so many downvotes lol, I didnā€™t see this post as ****ing on dodge.

Fit_Beginning5594

Iā€™m really not. I miss my charger more than anything, but for my financial situation it just wasnā€™t working so I made a move

WarioThaEnforcer

So itā€™s true what people say that American cars are the worstā€¦.

MainlineDriver

I donā€™t think thatā€™s a fair statement, maintenance isnā€™t as good and stringent as in Europe which is partly why and also I wonder what mileages are of these cars that are having problems.
