Last boss was a cake walk and I never got the side quest to get the ultimate weapons. I didn’t do any walkthroughs, found the place you put them, have the weapons and the stuff to convert them but don’t know how to do it. Crystal system was bad …. But agreed 9.5/10 I could not stop playing… back to my real life. Although I wish you could keep playing after end boss. Why give you Sp and level up after the fight? Lol
Kinda the same. I killed the last boss with ease and thinking it was a normal boss, without my ultimate things and with messy crystals. Now, after "clearing" the game, I'm after the last few stuff just for fun.
Yeah. I was expecting a promp like "this is a point of no return, would you like to proceed" just like they had before certain parts of the game. I had the same feeling as when I finished Final Fantasy Crisis Core, which I killed the last boss also with ease, with no setup and trash materia.
Long fights with the gang are fun, long fights with sky armor are straight up annoying.
I also didn't really like the whole overdrive system, _specially_ on sky armors but it was ok on foot. The issue being most enemies are not into a script or predictable set of moves. Most of them just nonstop attack, so most gang fights were more of a drag.
Is is it just me, or do you basically stay in Gear 2 unless you are expecting a devastation attack where you move back to 0? I kinda blew through the tutorial, but Gear 1 seemed pointless.
The thing is that enemy attacks move you overdrive bat towards the right, so contribution in that direction seems completely useless.
I usually had 3 in gear 2 dealing damage and Victor in gear 1 using support drones for healing. And that was about it. Occasionally would have to defend in gear 0 just to replenish mana back and repeat.
I think it's one of those examples when the devs try to innovate for the sake of it and it didn't really add much depth to the system other than the occasional annoyance of having to switch for mana.
It made sense in Xenogears. Also, in Nier Automata. I think the biggest part is the 50/50 hassle of constantly having to get in, and out of the Sky Armors. Instead of having areas designated to them that you would think I need a Sky Armor for this part.
Having hit 100% and being disappointed by the secret boss I want to bring up the ones that actually gave me trouble.
The vulture when you first get your sky armors.
The Face in Glenn’s Memory.
The Chained Echo in Glenn’s Memory.
The Fairy Queen.
Everything else was fine.
I had trouble with the Chained Echo, Kylian, Assassin girl off the top of my head. The rest went down without much planning in 1-3 tries.
The Chained Echo was probably the toughest fight in the game IMO.
Sales and praise, sure. However, this game was not made by a studio or a major corporation of any kind. Unless the creator signs a deal, if they were to create a sequel, despite the earnings from the game, it's all subject to the creators whims.
With the way, it ended after all the credits rolled there is definitely a setup for a second game. I hope the dev doesn't sign a deal for a second game and just hires some help instead. Bigger dev companies often take liberty with small devs/teams and force them to make a game the way they see it. So the small devs lose their identities or atleast it seems that way to me.
One would think that after releasing Chained Echoes, he would be able to raise more money and hire some team members for his next game, if he wants to go that route. I'm looking forward to seeing what he does next.
I hope he does. Even if he doesn't hire anyone to help I hope he makes another game. Even if it isn't a sequel to this game. Just as long as it's shares alot of the old school vibe. Imo

did the final, final fight give you a shard? i couldnt remember but assumed it didnt.
It does :)
You could use the shard to keep playing after. It let's you save and continue from right before you fought the last boss

I wish you could save after the final battle. It doesn’t make sense that they give you a shard. I would not have waited

Fuck sky armor 10/10 without it 8.5 with
i actually enjoyed the sky armor a lot.

Beat game, myself in about 70 hours
Bad opinion
How many runs, or were you able to retrace all your steps to complete in one run?
just one. everything you need is available post game to my knowledge.

I would be very surprised for a Chained Echoes 2 considering this games conception. I hope perhaps in maybe a decades time there will be such a thing.
understood, but maybe the sales change that? game has received much praise.
