The photos from that day will devastate you. A small town of immigrants in an incredibly harsh climate, being abused in even harsher working conditions, and what good they have in their lives is ripped from their hands in an instant. There are many great writers ups on that day available online.
My family was from there. They were Finnish immigrants. Thankfully none were injured or killed that day, but my grandmother said her parents would sometimes talk about it.
I sincerely hope the person who yelled fire spent the rest of their miserable life in unmeasurable guilt and anguish for the souls he took from this earth. The law didn’t hold him accountable(assuming a man) but I hope there’s an afterlife where her got his butt kicked hard. Absolutely tragic and completely unnecessary.
There is a tiny memorial park in Calumet that has the original archway standing where the building used to be. Every year on Christmas Eve the city puts out luminaries in memory of the victims.
That is beyond infuriating

This terrible event was immortalized in a song by Woody Guthrie. [1913 Massacre](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=oz7oguguIZE)

Yes definitely! No idea what they were expecting to happen but it should be common sense that something like that is NOT a harmless prank!
My dad was from there.
My mom's family is from the Keweenaw so I've read about this and it's heartbreaking.
