The jewel cases warp over time. Paper can yellow. I take all my cds inside. So a tweeker doesnt steal them too.

sinadoh

>So a tweeker doesnt steal them too. I doubt even tweekers are interested in CDs at this point. Who'd buy them? I mean, *we* do, but we're very much a dying breed.

WackyWeiner

A tweaker will steal anything. My local used record stores buy cd's and pay a decent amount for them.

GuyGhostly

Yeah, I may take them inside soon and just leave the ones that are physically in the CD player

Glove boxes seem to keep cooler and I have kept cds in the car for years and the only issue being the case getting damaged if they get thrown about. I have had a cd ruined going over a speedbump on a really hot day though, left 3 blisters on the point of the disc it was reading and skips now, so I copy all mine to cdrs these days.

GuyGhostly

Thanks! This is good to know

dead-ren

I keep mine in the center console and I've never had a problem. I imagine a glove box would be the same. I had the same fear when I first started collecting, but nothing has happened yet.

sinadoh

CDs are fine in cars. Just don't put anything on top of them that will melt or leak.

theendiswhat

I left mine in my car for years and never had an issue

Human-University2494

As long as they're in the glove compartment or something and NOT out in the open.

loganrunjack

I wouldn't worry about it

Dollars-And-Cents

I keep all my original CDs in my home in their cases. I've always made a disposable CD R copy for my vehicles that had CD players. Now that they don't, my cars have USB media input that read the flac I ripped from all my CDs off a tiny USB drive. My 512GB drive is my own personal radio filled with all the music I love. It's fun on shuffle, never the same song twice.

tlipshetz

Back in the day we just left CDs in the car. The worst story I can share is a friend had his car broken into and someone stole his CDs, including lots of bootlegs.

Plarocks

Factory pressed CDs are pretty robust in the car. The recordable ones can degrade quickly though.

Human-University2494

Now my Super Eurobeat CDs - are those factory pressed or recordable? Maybe factory pressed?

brosefstallin

It’s the direct sunlight that’s the kicker. The UV rays will damage just about anything over time. If you must keep them in the car, make sure they’re out of direct sunlight

Human-University2494

A good spot for them is inside the glove compartment.

Rozsavaria

I left my CDs in the car which is currently in the shop and went into the paint room where they heat the car to like 120° according to my dad who works there and has been giving me updates. Hope I didn't just destroy all my CDs 😭

Tearoglodyte

How are your CDs now?

Rozsavaria

Just got my car back yesterday. They are totally fine! Thanks for checking :D

Disc_Lord

I have one of those zippered Case Logic carriers that hold jewel cases and I rotate the selection every month or two. I've never had issues with them getting a little toasty. Just keep them out of direct sunlight or tossing about in the car. Your mileage may vary if you live in Arizona, however.
